Robinson Sawmill, built in 1806, is a historic landmark at Kent Corner in Calais, a right hand turn and one mile down the road from Maple Corner. Efforts are underway to continue to raise funds for restoration to preserve this history provide education for area youth. Park on the road to view the sawmill and enjoy a walk up the road to the old Robinson Hill cemetery. If you are up for a three mile walk, continue on, left at the triangle, which will bring you to the Maple Corner store and community center. From there you can walk back along the Calais Road to return to the sawmill. You may see outdoor sculptures at the Kent Museum. So great to have this tucked away nearby! Just down the road from Maple Corner, about seven miles from your guest suite, is a local treasure which hosts a calendar of events each fall during September and October and a chance to see an art exhibit, outdoor sculptures, speakers, poetry and music events, and a chance to walk around this historic area right near the Robinson Sawmill, cemetery, and close to the Old West Church.
