Avalon Vintage

Why locals recommend it

Rodney Klein opened this as a used record store, then invited his partner and former stylist, Carmen Hawk, to add her collection of used clothing. Klein’s got great taste in ‘60s and ‘70s jazz, Latin, and soul and his wall often has some true heavy-hitter collector’s records while his bins are some of the most eclectic I’ve seen. In recent years, Highland Park has seen many new record stores popping up. If you’re going to hit up Avalon, you might as well budget time to walk up the block to the three other stores in that same area: Mount Analog, Gimme Gimme Records, and Permanent Records.
