While you savor your Gray's ice cream, you can walk over to see Chase-Cory house which was built around 1730, and served for several generations as the home of a family of whalers. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, it's not currently possible to see the interior. While you're pondering what life might have been like in Tiverton in the 1700s, you'll be interested to know that the parking lot for Grays once was the site of the local whipping post. Local lore has it that it was torn down in 1807 by a group of women outraged that one of their own was to be punished with a whipping. The judge told them the only way to stop it, was for there to be no whipping post, and so the women pulled it down. Talk about tough colonial dames!
