Holiday rentals in Shela

We loved Livia’s place (Amani House). While it is a short walk from the coast and central Shela, it’s a pleasant walk through neighborhoods with lots to see. It also felt more relaxing to be on the edge of town than right in it. The chef (Martin) was phenomenal and the groundsman (Philicent) and the housekeeper (Elina) were kind and helpful. Plus you have to take a dhow ride with Omar! He’s a wonderful man. We would love to stay there again!

The apartment was fantastic, providing the perfect place to relax and kick-back in Shela. We particularly enjoyed the private upstairs area with various day beds and a hammock to enjoy the sea breeze and shade during the hot afternoons. Clinton was helpful with messaging and Swaleh was the perfect host at the property. We will be planning a return trip soon enough.

Absolutely wonderful place to stay on Lamu! Definitely appreciated everyone from the staff who made us feel so welcome, other than that it’s a beautiful accommodation in a perfect location of Shela, lunch and dinner were the best we had on Lamu… the list goes on. Highly recommended to stay at Moyoni!

I instantly felt right at home. Thomas, Amani and all the staff were very accommodating and were responsive to anything I needed. The breakfast is amazing (make sure to try the banana pancakes and the vegetable scrambled eggs). They make almost everything in-house so you really feel like you're eating a home-cooked meal. The afternoon tea and snack was perfect while I needed to work remotely and the wifi worked very well in the common areas so I was able to get a lot of work done during my stay. The bed was comfy, the water was hot, the room was spotless and it felt like a home away from home. Thank you!

Baji ist ein toller Gastgeber, er holte mich vom Flughafen ab und erklärte mir alles wichtige. Die Unterkunft ist sehr sauber und ruhig. Besonders der Frühstück von Maya war hervorragend und ich habe die Zeit dort sehr genossen.

Mtende house is beautifully charming, each detail seemingly handpicked with thought and attention to detail. From the characterful doors, windows, lighting fixtures and furnishings, to the elevated ceilings in the bedrooms to the breezy dining and sitting area at the top of the 3 storey house, everything about the house makes you feel at home and simultaneously on vacation. The staff were wonderful. Patrick is a terrific cook and assisted by George, everything went perfectly smoothly regarding every aspect of our stay. If you are lucky enough to visit Shela, make Mtende House your home away from home … you won‘t regret it. Thank you Jax for being an amazing host and sharing your special home with us.

I had a wonderful stay at the Kizingo Eco Lodge, I was completely thrilled and can really recommend it! The staff was very warm and helpful. The lodge is located at the end of the 12km long beach and is surrounded by dunes. The beach is very beautiful, quiet and you can swim there even at low tide. The restaurant and cabanas are all unique and beautiful, full of attention to detail and everything is locally made. Night Sky was very airy, large and had lots of pretty niches to linger in. The bathroom was also very large and beautiful. The food was excellent and the cook surprised me with delicious, creative vegan meals. Nicola built the lodge so consciously and sustainably, there were wonderful, locally produced natural care products in the bathroom. The lodge can be either reached by boat or by motorbike from Shela along the beach in 15min (KSH 1000 only one way), so that it's easy to go there just for the day, have a wonderful meal and cool drinks at the beach underneath the shade.

Ndege Beach House was the perfect place to relax for a few days after a long stay in Shela - a very peaceful spot right on a gorgeous stretch of beach overlooking Shela. Beautifully designed and very comfortable- we slept so well here! We enjoyed being able to wake up and tumble into the sea- but also enjoyed the lovely swimming pool. The staff were so kind and helpful - we had some lovely meals. The internet was great- we were working remotely and there are plenty of areas to hide away. Suzanne was very friendly and helpful.
