Founded in 1957, my grandfather, Eiichi Tanuchi, ran an inn called Aiwasho for the cultural development of Tanabe City, Wakayama Prefecture. In order to continue to protect its history and traditions, his granddaughter, Kiushuko, reopened the inn under its original name in 2021. Built on the site of Ueno Castle, this inn is a traditional Japanese house with tatami mats on the floor. Please relax in one of the two Japanese-style rooms. The inn is located on a hill overlooking the city of Tanabe, so you can enjoy the morning sun, sunset, and night view. On a calm day, we recommend having tea in a wicker chair on the edge of the hinoki cypress wooden deck, which was made in the image of the moon viewing platform of the Katsura Imperial Villa. The newly installed bath and toilet are spacious and barrier-free, so you can bathe together or use them easily even if you need assistance. We installed popin.aladdin (lighting with projector) in one of the Japanese-style rooms. It projects on the sliding doors You can watch TV, music, movies, etc. Enjoy BGM on YouTube before you go out in the morning. My parents, Kisaku and Shuko Tanai (Japanese), live next to the house, so please let me know if you need anything.

Limited to one group per day, Guest House Agai is convenient for walking the Kumano Kodo and playing in the river. You can experience country life.

Guest House Agae is a renovated traditional house that can only accommodate one group at a time. It is in a very convenient location, about 550 m (about 7 minutes on foot) to Kumano Kodo and Kinkou Oji, a supermarket (A-COOP), a bus stop (Kodo Aruki no Sato Chikatsuyu), and restaurants (Shoji Teahouse and Tororo-ya). The owner is a local Kumano Kodo guide, so we will do our best to accommodate your questions and advice about walking the Kumano Kodo, as well as pick-up and drop-off when you need it. We can also provide personal guides, so please let us know. Prices do not include meals. It’s a house 8km from the Hongu Taisha. (about 15 minutes' drive) If you have a car it's more convenient, but if not I'll be happy to drive you to and from a bus stop or a tourism spot in Hongu area. My family run an organic farm, bakery, NPO offering long-stay for the youth, and an alternative school for children nearby. You'll have some loaves of bread from our bakery(^^)/ （If you don't eat bread please let me know beforehand)
