Places to stay in Theberton
Our family has been holidaying at Westdene for four generations and it just gets better every year! Whatever time you choose to visit this unique part of Suffolk, there is a never-ending list of things to do. We have Netflix or Monopoly for the rainy days and bikes and outdoor table tennis for sunny days. The house feels so spacious, but you will feel instantly at home. We are five minutes walk from the sea; two minutes walk from the pub; four minutes walk from the boating lake and golf club
This is a cottage with a real family feel, but with lots of space to escape. The garden is a joy and room for cricket or football. There is also a barbecue available for the many sunny days. The bedrooms are all large and there are three sofas in the lounge, as well as two big comfy armchairs. Comfort will follow you wherever you go in this house:). Well-behaved dogs are very welcome (not on furniture or in bedrooms), they will love the garden!
This is a village where you can do as much or as little as you like. Chill out with long beach walks or play golf, tennis, fish, cycle, shop, wine and dine. There is the beautiful boating lake (meare) for the kids to take out canoes, kayaks or rowing boats. Or the adults may prefer a punt or a sailing dinghy. There are islands for the kids to land on and explore, or you could take a picnic to eat on board the boat or on Pirate's Lair. A recent review - We had the best weekend staying at Westdene. It's a lovely seaside country home, really spacious yet retaining warmth and cosiness. The house comes with everything you could need- from board games, to trampoline to loads of kitchen equipment. The location was amazing- with beach, lake and seaside town all within walking distance. Highly recommend taking boats out on the lake, visiting House in the Clouds and getting fish n chips in Aldeburgh. However- it was hard to be torn away from the amazing garden to be honest! Thorpeness is like nowhere I have been before- there is something very magical and charming about it. We didn't meet Julie but she was really helpful and accommodating. This was the perfect cottage retreat, full of things to do come rain or shine. We can't wait to come back!
  • We had a lovely weekend, the house was much more spacious than it looks in the pictures! Our children enjoyed the garden and the grown ups enjoyed the comfy sofas in the evening. We would love to stay again in future!

Set in an idyllic location next to a nature reserve overlooking the Alde estuary, this really is an escape from it all, and yet Aldeburgh is still within easy reach. Recently renovated to the highest standards, the cottage is a beautiful combination of designer and vintage interiors.
Welcome to White Cottage, just within the borders of Aldeburgh, Suffolk in the east of England. The cottage is set in an idyllic location on the historic Sailors Path, within the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a stone's throw from the fascinating Hazlewood Marshes nature reserve on the Alde estuary. The centre of Aldeburgh is 5 minutes' drive, or 15 minutes' bike ride, from the cottage. Recently renovated to the highest standards by an interior designer, the cottage has 3 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms. It can accommodate up to 7 + 2 on a sofa bed. A baby cot is available on request. The property enjoys 1/3 of an acre garden and is situated amongst 3 acres of common land leading down to the estuary and marsh land. Children (and adults) can play, build dens and swing on the rope ladder looking towards far reaching views over the estuary and Iken. For a real Swallows and Amazons adventure this is a wonderful holiday break where everyone can relax! The property comes fully equipped with all you will need for a restful holiday so you can rest in the knowledge that you will have a luxurious and pampering stay. The main living area is open plan and includes the kitchen and sitting area with a selection of vintage and designer furniture. Cosy up next to the wood burner in the winter or cook up a storm on the barbecue and gaze at the stars in the summer - the cottage is a perfect get-away for all seasons. The kitchen is well equipped with a hand blender, Nespresso machine, Le Creuset kitchenware, Nutribullet and a wonderful selection of crockery, sourced locally. Leading from the kitchen is the family bathroom with a bath and shower and Suffolk handmade tiles to finish it off. The master bedroom: The room has a wonderful ensuite bathroom with large roll top bath and walk in shower. Clad in reclaimed wood it feels very much like you are a luxurious yacht looking up from bath to the stars through the roof light...Lie back with a glass of something cold and breathe... The 2nd bedroom has a double bed with a single bunk bed perfect for a couple or kids. The room can sleep up to 4 children all tucked up cosily with hot water bottles and cosy throws! The 3rd bedroom: Upstairs there is a loft room with wonderful views out across the garden to the estuary. It has a double futon and is a very cosy space. Please note that it is accessed via a spiral staircase which is not suitable for small children or people who are not sure-footed. The garden is a space for relaxing, finding spaces to make camps and just spending time listening to the birds! Outside on the terrace there are deck chairs, seating in 2 areas and a large Weber barbecue with a pizza oven. For those that like bird watching, the Hazlewood Marshes, just a 5 minute walk away, have just been reopened; you can read more about the marshes here: (URL HIDDEN). Even if bird-watching is not your thing, it is hard not to be entranced by the birdsongs and calls carried up to the cottage. And you're likely to spot other wildlife too, including the occasional mole, stoat, and the ubiquitous rabbits! If you like jumping there is also a 14ft trampoline in the garden. The cottage gives our family such pleasure every time we visit. We hope you love it as much as we do!
Quiet, beautiful, escape! About Aldeburgh: World-renowned, thanks to its connection with Benjamin Britten, founder of the Aldeburgh Festival which takes place in June each year, Aldeburgh is as perfect a traditional seaside escape as you could hope to find. Pastel-coloured 19th Century holiday villas line the promenade. To their east, the pebble beach with fisherman's huts selling the daily catch. Inland, the High Street offers delightful clothes boutiques, antiques and arts, an independent book shop and cinema plus a huge variety of culinary temptation, from the renowned fish and chips, to fine bistro dining, excellent wood fired pizzas and of course, seaside ice cream! Between the High Street and the sea you'll also find the Lifeboat Station, with museum and shop, along with The 16th Century Moot Hall, which houses a museum charting the Town's history from its Roman beginnings to the present day. Just four miles upstream along the Alde is Snape Maltings, home to the concert hall built by Britten, Pears and friends and now also home to a delightful complex of interiors and antique shops, a good dining pub and cafe, along with stunning walks laid-out across the reed beds - which lead down Sailors Path and back to White Cottage. Stroll north a mile or so along Aldeburgh sea front, past the Maggi Hambling sculpture, the Scallop, and you'll arrive in equally lovely Thorpeness. Thorpeness began life as a private fantasy holiday village, built by Glencairn Stuart Ogilvy in 1910. This fascinating village, with its mock Tudor and Jacobean architecture is home to the Meare, an artificial boating lake covering over 60 acres inspired by J. M. Barrie's Peter Pan. Tiny islands like The Pirates' Lair and Wendy's House are perfect for wannabe pirates and adventurers to explore. The Dolphin pub is excellent with a large garden. Floating above the Meare is the House in the Clouds, a converted former water tower. 10 things you MUST do while you're here…. 1. Take a ride down Sailors Path to Snape...Shop, eat, sit with a glass of rose on the river and breathe!... 2. Eat the best Eccles cake with Lancashire cheese at Pump St Bakery, Orford 3. Walk down to the Hazelwood Marshes reserve . 4. Go to the Thorpeness country club and have a game of tennis, they lay on lots of activities for kids so you can play! 5. Take a boat onto the Thorpeness Meare to relive the stories of Peter Pan. 6. Swim in the sea! 7. Have a coffee at the new cafe opposite the Meare at Thorpneess and take in the antiques emporium. 8. Visit Vintage Angels at Hall Farm (on the way into Aldeburgh) for some classic Vintage dresses/suits etc. 9. Go crabbing at Walberswick and pick up some smoked blackened bacon from Pinneys on the quay. 10. Let the kids just run and be free, make camps, bounce and have fun so you can too!
  • Perfect hosts, perfect cottage, perfect break - Not much else to say !

  • Such a peaceful retreat, in a beautiful wild setting but so close to lively Aldeburgh. Such a beautiful cottage!

    Emily2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely property set in idyllic location.

    Jane2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved staying at White Cottage. You couldn't wish for a more perfect place in such a peaceful and beautiful setting. You really felt that you were cut of from the modern world, yet just a very short drive to the relative hustle and bustle of Aldeburgh; its beach, fish and chips and lovely shops. It was perfect for our family (couple of toddlers) who could safely play in the garden and with the toys in the house. The house itself is beautiful and we wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

    Seb2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is a brilliant place to stay. Beautiful house in a very peaceful location - literally on a nature reserve just outside Aldeburgh, but only a five minute drive into town. Would definitely book it again another time.

Appletree Cottage is a luxuriously renovated Grade II listed thatched cottage in tranquil rural Suffolk. It's a wonderful holiday base throughout the year for families, friends or couples, with local attractions including the coastal towns of Aldeburgh, Southwold, Thorpeness & Orford, countryside in a Outstanding Area of Natural Beauty, culture, days at the beach, sailing, horse-riding, clay-pigeon shooting, fishing, birdwatching, relaxing!
Apple Tree Cottage is a 17th Century oak timber-framed thatched cottage in a small Suffolk village on the edge of a country estate, brimming with historic charm but with the comfort of all mod cons. Comfortably accommodates 6 in the three bedrooms plus extra guests on two downstairs double sofabeds. If a relaxing haven is what you're after look no further! Originally two cottages, now joined together forming one home, there are beautiful traditional oak timber frames and beams, the original Suffolk brick floors and open Inglenook fire places. The cottage is arranged over two floors.  The ground floor has an open plan sitting and dining area with comfortable sofa and chairs piled with cushions and throws, a cosy woodburner, rugs on the floor, and a farmhouse style dining table which can accommodate up to 8 people.  The kitchen opens off this area and is well-equipped with fridge, freezer, dishwasher, microwave, electric hob and oven, Nespresso coffee machine (coffee provided) and all the crockery, cutlery and cooking equipment you would expect to use. There is a further separate sitting room with large corner sofa which can open up into a double sofabed sleeping two.  This room also has an open Inglenook fireplace and is home to the TV with DVD/CD player, AppleTV and surround sound system.  We have a selection of DVDs, books and games for you to enjoy. The spacious main bathroom is on the ground floor and contains a walk in shower, freestanding double-ended bateau style bath with handheld shower, basin and laundry cupboard housing a washer/dryer, iron & ironing board.  Here, should you wish you can dim the lights, fill the bath with bubbles and steaming hot water and gaze out onto the garden during a long relaxing soak! Upstairs, two double bedrooms are accessed by the main, original wooden staircase.  Both lead off a small landing area; the master bedroom has a high vaulted ceiling with original oak beams, a kingsize bed and small ensuite bathroom with loo and basin, the other with a double bed and more oak beams. The twin single bedroom can be accessed either through the double bedroom or via it’s own separate staircase. All bedrooms have comfortable beds & mattresses, high quality pure cotton bedlinen, cream carpets and windows with views overlooking the garden and open countryside. You can even reach out of the master bedroom window to pick an apple directly from one of the apple trees at the right time of year! The cottage has wifi with broadband connection and Bang & Olufsen wireless music player, compatible with apple or Android devices.  There is a selection of board games, cards and children's toys etc... for your use. The garden is secluded and quiet. It is a typical English cottage style garden with different areas to use and enjoy; whether it be eating lunch or dinner at the outside table under the shade of the apple trees, enjoying breakfast on the patio just outside the house, relaxing on a sunlounger, playing a game of table tennis, swinging in the hammock, reading a book on the bench under a tree or enjoying a glass of wine in the summerhouse watching the birds. There is a charcoal BBQ for your use - please remember to use a safe distance from the house and thatched roof! And plenty of garden games; full size outdoor table tennis table, croquet, boules, cricket, badminton etc... For children there’s a trampoline, wooden tree swing and rope tree ladder to play on. At the right time of year the apples will be in plentiful supply on the trees. Please help yourselves - they make wonderful crumbles, pies and chutneys. There is parking for two cars on the gravel under the trees. If you have visitors and need extra parking you can also park a car on the grass under the apple tree. Train station with link to London via Ipswich and big supermarkets Waitrose and Tesco are 1 mile away in Saxmundham.
The cottage is a wonderful place hole up and relax and simply enjoy the gorgeous country setting, but we are also no more than a 20 minute drive from all the attractions of the local area including beaches at Southwold, Aldeburgh and Walberswick, Framlingham Castle, Orford Castle, Minsmere RSPB reserve, Dunwich Heath and forest, Rendlesham forest, Woodbridge, Sutton Hoo National Trust Viking site. Some of our favourite activities are going to beach at Walberswick where our children like to play in the sandy dunes and spend hours catching crabs in the creek; horseriding over to Iken bay, fish & chips eaten on the beach form the famous Aldeburgh shop, boating on the Meare lake at Thorpeness or simply roasting marshmallows on an open fire at home... This area is a foodie haven, with delicious local produce, farmers shops and markets, artisan bakery, Orford Smokehouse and great eateries. Golf courses, horseriding, sailing, tennis, fishing & clay-pigeon shooting are all on the doorstep. There are numerous antique centres and vintage markets to browse and of course the internationally renowned Aldeburgh Music concert hall at Snape Maltings is just 1 mile away.

  • Suffolk Hideaways's place was nice, clean and tidy and it actually felt really homely. Everything was nice and clean, the house generally and the kitchen in particular was well-equipped and the internet was good. The place is easily accessible and we had a great time visiting the area and our friends in town. Thank You!

  • Great little cottage well placed for Minsmere. Clean and well decorated with everything you need provided. Parking usually available outside but if not there is a free car park a couple of minutes walk away. Recommended with no issues whatsoever 👍👍

  • The House was great, nicely furnished and equipped looks to be newly renovated. Heating worked excellent. Shower was super. Bathroom floor heating was a real treat. The place was sparkling clean. The bed was comfy. Check in was easy (look for a separate email from AirB&B user). We had a great & relaxing time. Just a note for future guests, the parking is street parking which can get fairly busy at times. There was a free open parking lot about 2 to 3 minute walk down the road. Nice base point if you are wanting to explore the Suffolk area. Internet was fast enough to stream Netflix / Youtube.

Formerly known as 2 Grange Cottages, this charming period holiday cottage in Suffolk has a special, secluded location down a private drive, but within easy walking distance to the centre of Westleton. Westleton is a pretty Suffolk village that has a well regarded gastro-pub, The Crown – as well as a beautiful village green that hosts the annual barrel rolling competition.
This beautifully restored self-catering holiday cottage is chock-full of interest and charm, and has that all-important wood burning stove. There is a large open plan kitchen/dining room in a new extension; whilst the sitting room, bathroom and bedrooms are all in the period part of the cottage, dating back over 400 years. There is a twin on the ground floor, plus a king and single bedroom on the first floor. Outside, is a large garden, mostly laid to lawn, to relax in and parking for two cars.
This semi-detached Suffolk holiday cottage is situated on the edge of the picturesque village of Westleton where you can have a delightful meal at the Crown, only a five minute walk away, close to RSPB Minsmere where you can walk across historic heathland and see if you can spot the many different bird types, plus historic Dunwich on the Suffolk coast. The area is rich in wildlife and has a network of footpaths. Westleton is roughly about halfway between the seaside towns of Southwold where you can take a stroll down Southwold Pier for coffee and stunning views back at the town, and Aldeburgh famous fish and chips – which makes it an ideal location for exploring the pretty heritage coastline and ancient villages. Darsham mainline train station is just 3 miles away, with several direct trains to London Liverpool Street. For a bit of fun why not take the kids crabbing in Walberswick!

  • A great place to stay. Very cosy and a great location with woods and grounds. We had a problem with the water, but that got sorted out straight away. If I stayed here again I'd clarify that there would be wood provided for the burner (there wasn't for us). Nice touch the host put lights up in a tree outside the door, to guide our way in. Thanks.

We couldn’t fault it for cleanliness, comfort, and amenities and location. There’s a good local pub, small grocery store and lovely common to walk the dogs. We would return as it’s s great base for exploring Suffolk.

Thorpeness is a village located just one mile north of Aldeburgh on the stunning Suffolk Heritage Coast. Developed as a private fantasy holiday village, Glen Ogilvie built the Country Club, golf course, tennis courts and an artificial lake called the ‘Meare’. The Meare has inspirations from J. M. Barrie’s work of Peter Pan and holds the annual Thorpeness Regatta where boat races are held during the day and a fantastic fireworks display can be seen at night. You won’t miss it whilst you are visiting the village! Aldeburgh is a town located by the River Alde on the stunning Suffolk Heritage Coast. It is famous for the annual Aldeburgh Festival, which takes place nearby at Snape Maltings – home to the renowned composer Benjamin Britten. Aldeburgh also hosts a Carnival which takes place over a long weekend in August. It includes a funfair, mini-marathon, Carnival procession, Military band and fireworks display. Whilst in Aldeburgh, make sure you visit the life boat station, Moot Hall, Martello Tower, buy fresh fish from the huts on the beach and of course do not forget to try the famous fish and chip shop!

  • We had a fab stay at this location. It’s only 20-25 min drive to Southwold. Also found a fab pub 5 min walk (poss the white horse) where we had an amazing meal out! Very convenient- although given the bad phone signal in area we would have benefitted form some form of WiFi especially if we were staying for longer. The house was clean, spacious and had everything we needed. The only joint comment from the group was only having on sofa for 5 adults staying. We felt separated as people had to sit at the table etc. Otherwise- loved our stay! Thank you :)

  • I stayed in Caxton Studio for 2 nights whilst in the area on a work trip. I found it very comfortable and everything I needed for my stay was there. There is an off-road parking space right outside the flat which was great. The shower is very good! The host gave me a warm welcome and left fresh milk in the fridge for my arrival which is always nice. The area is very quiet, I had no problems getting to sleep. Great for a solo traveller looking for somewhere affordable to stay near the Suffolk coast.

The accommodation is cosy, although it was nice we were given a fan as did get very warm. I would imagine it must be very toasty in the winter. The beds are very comfy and we would definitely visit again if we are in that vicinity.

All the old world appeal of a traditional English country cottage has been retained at Brookside, including the wood burning stove and original beams; with the addition of modern appliances in the kitchen, and a pretty modern bathroom. Interiors are tastefully furnished from the welcoming kitchen/dining room and cosy living room on the ground floor, to the two good sized bedrooms with wonderfully wonky walls and floors oozing character upstairs. Whether for a short break or full week, you'll enjoy exploring the Suffolk coast and interesting market towns and, when you're ready for some quiet time, you can retreat to the cottage garden.
The garden path takes you to the door opening into the welcoming and generous sized kitchen/breakfast room which has an excellent mix of old charm and modern appliances and utensils for you to enjoy dining at home, with a cosy living room and warming wood burner to retire to! Old-world charisma and character continues to the first floor with pretty furnishings in both bedrooms and a lovely country style bathroom with corner shower cubicle as well as the large bath. This semi-detached cottage sits well back from the road with a path running along the front lawn and flower beds to the kitchen door, continuing to the large garden at the back, bordered by fields, where you enjoy meals in the fresh air at the outdoor furniture. There's an off road parking space and additional parking on the street outside the cottage; plus an outhouse where you can store a bike.
This charming mid-terraced Suffolk holiday cottage sits in the little village of Kelsale, within easy reach of the beautiful Suffolk Coast making it an ideal location from which to explore picturesque seaside towns of Aldeburgh and Southwold, East Suffolk's villages and market towns, or simply relax and enjoy long walks or bike rides from the front door. Brookside sits in the heart of the village just over the brook, close to a children's playground and park Kelsale, a pretty village in the east of Suffolk, is approximately a mile north of Saxmundham town centre with a range of independent shops, Waitrose, The Bell Hotel serving good food, and a number of cafes. There are also lots of excellent country pubs to choose from within a short drive, the Poachers Pocket within walking distance and Mirabelle is conveniently close to the larger towns of Southwold and Aldeburgh, so an ideal base for exploration the county.

There is free parking opposite the gated entrance on the road. It is also within walking distance of 2 charming pubs, a well stocked village shop, 2 bookshops, Westleton common, footpaths, forests and heaths. The beach is only 3 miles drive away. Westleton Heath National Nature Reserve and parts of Dunwich Forest also lie within the parish. The majority of the 500 or so inhabitants live close to the B1125 Blythburgh to Leiston road, the remainder living in scattered cottages and farmhouses in this otherwise agricultural landscape. The Village Hall and St Peters Church are the focal points of village activities, whilst the White Horse and The Crown pubs are the main social centres. The parish of Westleton is bounded by the parishes of Dunwich, Darsham, Middleton cum Fordley and Theberton cum Eastbridge. The placename Westleton (or Westledestuna as it appeared in the Domesday Book of 1086) is believed to derive from the Old Norse Vestlithi (a personal name) and Old English tun i.e. Vestlithi's homestead.

  • We had a great time! Cottage was comfy and a bit more spacious than we were expecting which was nice. We liked that it had a well supplied kitchen with pots & pans, coffee pot, tin foil, spices/oils etc. Thorpeness and the surrounding area were lovely, we were there in off season so lots of walks on long empty pebble beaches and in the marshes. Thanks for a lovely stay!

A rural retreat in the Suffolk countryside, wonderful open views to fields and wildlife. 15 minutes from the coastal town of Southwold, 5 minutes from Dunwich Heath, Minsmere bird reserve and 20 minutes from Snape Maltings and Aldeburgh.
Everything needed for a comfortable stay, with lovely views , wildlife and amazing sunsets.
The village is small and quiet with just a pub and butchers and horse riding stables. There is a petrol station cafe, shop and flower nursery 1.5 miles in the other direction. This has petrol, food, off licence and a cash point. Dunwich , Southwold, Halesworth and Minsmere are 5-15 minutes away. All of the coastline is very pretty and accessible with great places to eat and drink. Lovely areas to walk within woodland, beaches or Heathland. We have further information at the house and can suggest places for a variety of interests and activities.
  • The Snug is a great place to stay whilst exploring the local Suffolk coast line. There is an amazing bakery 2 mins away in Darsham and the lack of phone signal means you can switch off and unwind. The house is perfectly located for exploring Southwold and Aldeborough and is very clean and perfectly hosted.

  • What a lovely little property. It was just my little dog and I but definitely spacious enough for a couple. The garden was fenced off securely so was able to just leave my back door open. There were lovely cosy touches likes dvds to use and books, local info, some milk, coffee and even biscuits (thank you). Bed comfy, clean towels left out, spotlessly clean throughout. Would definitely stay again. Thank you.

Thanks for having us!

  • This annex property was just as pictured. In fact the pictures didn't do the space justice. We had all we needed and there were thoughtful little touches. A welcome basket was a nice surprise. A very clean modern property with a cute little patio overlooking the countryside which had sun most of the day. A lovely to spot to sit out in the evening. There's also a great pub a couple of minutes walk. Check in and communication was made easy. The property is a good location for a central base to explore around. We suggest aldeburgh, Southwold, Framlingham castle, dunwich beach, snape and thorpeness. It was just the nice relaxing break my husband and I needed. We would thoroughly recommend it.

Thorpeness is also home to the House in the Clouds. An old water tower that was considered an eye-sore has been developed into a fantastic 5-storey holiday home. Whilst in Aldeburgh, make sure you visit the life boat station, Moot Hall, Martello Tower, buy fresh fish from the huts on the beach and of course do not forget to try the famous fish and chip shop!

A delightful, light and airy one bedroom period holiday cottage in Suffolk situated very close to the beach in Thorpeness, overlooking the famous Meare boating lake. It is ideal for couples requiring stylish accommodation in this very popular village.
Our Guests say: "Cottage has terrific outlook and great position for an early morning run to Aldeburgh, and more leisurely stroll along the beach in the autumn sunshine later in the day, to pick up some gorgeously fresh sea bass from the huts, before enjoying the Aldeburgh shops and well earned pint of Broadside at the White Hart. Cannot wait to come back to another of your lovely cottages. Thanks" "Recommended by The Guardian newspaper, a stunning one bedroom beach cottage with optional guest annex" “Had a lovely break (too short) in a lovely location. Enjoyed our walks to Aldeburgh and visits to Framlingham and Kettleburgh. Cottage was cosy and pretty, with lovely view. Hope to come back again very soon” “Thank you for a wonderful week! KITCHEN/DINER: In the kitchen/diner there's a beautiful handmade kitchen with a Smeg range cooker, fridge, dishwasher, microwave and a dining table to seat four people. The cottage's original stairs (Some may find them a little steep and narrow) from the kitchen lead up to: BEDROOM: There's a handmade oak king size bed and natural choir flooring and two windows, one of which has lovely views of The Meare and the other a glimpse of the sea. BATHROOM: A large family bathroom with a magnificent freestanding bath, separate shower, sink and w.c. Outside is a patio over which there is access to two further cottages. Thorpeness is a mile and a half along the beach from Aldeburgh and is a charming holiday village largely designed by the Scottish playwright and barrister Glencairn Stuart Ogilvie a century ago. He decided to create an idyllic model seaside village, inspired by the writings of JM Barrie, author of Peter Pan. The village has a Meare (local for lake) and its several miles of shallow water can be explored in the summer time by rowing boat. A short walk from the cottage is the Thorpeness Country Club and here the tennis courts and games rooms are often available during half term holidays as well as the summer months. Also close by is the Thorpeness heathland golf course. The area is ideal for cycling and walking, both along the coast and inland countryside. It's a short walk to the famous 'House in the Clouds' and Thorpeness windmill, both close to the Meare. There are a number of shops and eateries including The Dolphin Inn, and a popular café next to the Meare (opening times vary according to the time of year).
  • This is lovely little house right beside the cafe / vintage emporium and the boating lake. It's also a short walk to the beach. The house is stylishly decorated, and has a great bathroom. The stairs are quite steep which might be helpful for guests to know about.
