Places to stay in Tal-y-llyn
Come and visit our beautiful, restored wagon, high on a peaceful, off-grid hill. For walkers or cyclists, romantic breaks or retreats in nature; this is perfect for adventures or simply relaxing on the deck with a cup of tea heated by hydro power. Cosy all year round with wood burning stove and kitchenette, it has all you need for a relaxing stay. Holistic massage is available in the farmhouse for that added touch of luxury and relaxation, if the peace, quiet and the birdsong is not enough!
Getting away from it all is easier than you may think, in this surprising little carriage perched on a secluded hill. It is a unique space in many ways, but I can describe to you some of our favourites! The carriage is on the land of a working smallholding and community. The farmhouse has several people living and sharing the garden, and we are completely off-grid, with our own fresh water supply, and self-contained small hydro system with solar backup to provide all our electricity. The carriage itself is made from a guards wagon. Before braking could be done remotely from the engine, a guard traveled in this wagon, and would have had to manually brake all of the carriages when necessary. When technology advanced, these wagons were sold off to farmers by the railways, as well-built sheds and cabins. This one was winched to the top of our hill and renovated, and we are very excited to be sharing it! Ideal for retreats, romantic breaks, or for a base on a walking or cycling trip, the carriage is close enough to civilization to be convenient (the market town of Machynlleth is a 15 minute drive away) but also remote enough to really, truly relax. I also have a treatment room in the house, so if you would like to book in for a Holistic Massage as part of your holiday, just let me know and I'll be very happy to see you. The farmhouse who's land the carriage is on, is the only dwelling on this side of the mountain, so if peace is what you are looking for then you have come to the right place. However civilization is close at hand! The charming market town of Machynlleth is a 15 minute drive away, and has a vibrant community and enough shops to get you everything you need. There are plenty of popular attractions, for example the Centre for Alternative Technology for those interested in treading more lightly, the Dyfi bike park for downhill enthusiasts is right next door, or the Dyfi Osprey Project, a breeding site for ospreys. We are nestled in the southern edge of the Snowdonia National Park, so there is plenty of exploring for walkers and cyclists to do- Cadair Idris is one of my favourite mountains and it's only 15 minutes away... We are 1.5 miles from the A487 near Machynlleth, up a forestry track- fairly well maintained but with a smattering of potholes, for the rally driver in us all. Full, easy directions will be sent upon booking! There is space to park, with a short walk (1 minute) up a fairly steep hill with steps, so please consider if you can manage this before booking! I lived up here without a car for 10 years, and it is certainly possible to manage. Trains come regularly to Machynlleth from the Shrewsbury / Birmingham direction, and from Machynlleth there is a good bus service coming to Pantperthog. It is a 25 minute walk (again, uphill!) to get to the carriage from the bus stop. Of course there is always the taxi- from Machynlleth it costs £10. I can provide their details upon booking. We live off-grid! We think this is pretty amazing, and love being self-sufficient in power and water. But it does mean that sometimes, when it's been really dry for ages, or when things go a bit wrong, we may need to be careful with how much power we use. Occasionally it means the peace will be broken by a couple of hours of our noisy old diesel generator charging the batteries if there has been some problem, or us using the chainsaw for a while to cut our (and your!) firewood. It means we'll sometimes have to ask you to use the gas instead of the electric kettle, and to avoid using hairdryers or similar high power luxury items. Apart from these rare events it shouldn't create any inconveniences, just a warm fuzzy feeling that during your stay you are having barely any impact on your environment, and a great example of how the eco lifestyle can work! Good outdoor shoes or wellies, and slippers are also a good idea as I do provide some but your own may be preferable.
The farmhouse who's land the carriage is on, is the only dwelling on this side of the mountain, so if peace is what you are looking for then you have come to the right place. • Absolutely beautiful place to stay if you're looking to get away from everything. Couldn't have asked for better hosts

  • Was a lovely experience and lovely views and host can't wait to go again

  • Lovely, relaxing break away with beautiful views and walks. Meg and Ben were friendly and welcoming and we would highly recommend if you want some peace and quiet off grid!!!

  • I booked the Train Carriage on the Hill as a surprise for my boyfriend's 40th birthday. I think he was a little bit shocked when he realised there was a composting toilet and a separate shower and in fairness, Meg does advise against surprising anyone. But once he stepped inside the carriage he fell in love with the space, as did I. It's so much more spacious than the photos suggest and the bed is really comfy and cosy. It took a little while to master the log burner and get used to nipping outside to the loo, but we soon settled in. The view was stunning when there was a break in the clouds. And to top it off we saw 3 jets on the Mach Loop, which was why we came to this part of Wales. A truly memorable birthday.

  • A lovely view from the decking area which also contains a mini fire pit where wood is provided near the entrance to the farm house. The wood burning stove was great and the pillows provided were like resting your head on a cloud! The sink is located outside which can be quite chilly washing dishes and yourself if you dont have the weather :)

  • Prepare for the most wonderful night/s stay at the carriage! We stayed the night storm Ciara arrived and were well and truly snug, warm and safe. Perfect hosts and the perfect little get away. Definitely a place we want to return to.

    Helen2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • A very special place up on the hills, with spectacular views to wake up to. We loved our beautifully decorated little home for the night. So cosy with the fire blazing, the fairy lights on and a glass of wine in hand! It was blowing a gale outside but it was quiet, comfy and toasty in the carriage. Pure peace and privacy, and a great place to reconnect with nature. We definitely hope to be back this year for longer.

    Katie2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing little getaway! Amazing views of the welsh mountains, from the warmth of a log fire cabin. Meg was fantastic, so friendly and hospitable. We went for dinner in the local pub and that was delicious. The only drawback was that the cabin can’t be locked from the inside, which is easily overlooked when taking into consideration the incredible location. Definitely will be returning!

In the heart of a former Welsh slating village, this beautiful boutique-style cottage is the ideal place to get away from it all. With walks, coast, steam railways and bike trails all to hand, there is something for everyone. Glanydon has two wood burning stoves, an amazing bathroom and a very well equipped kitchen. We can also provide baby equipment (speak to us for info) for those coming with a baby. The cottage is NOT SAFE for a baby who is mobile. Surcharge of £25 if you bring baby.
If you are coming for a special occasion we would be happy to make sure there are flowers/chocolates/bubbly etc etc in the cottage for your arrival, just speak to us re what you'd like.
There is a café/village store just a few metres from Glanydon cottage (Idris Stores) where you will get a great cuppa and more and a warm welcome. There is also a pub (The Slater's Arms) just a few metres on again which does pub grub and Sunday lunches. The views of the mountains are stunning!
  • Beautiful location in picturesque village of Corris, convenient for Cadair Idris, clean and chic space with a cosy woodburner. Ceri is a friendly, communicative and attentive host who made us feel very welcome. Would 100% recommend

    Joss2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time at Ceri and Ken's home. It is the perfect base to explore the beautiful surronding area, or to just stay inside by the cosy fire! Corris is a very welcoming and characterful village and the local pub and Idris stores are great places to meet the locals. Ceri and Ken are both wonderful hosts with loads of personal touches. Really couldn't have asked for a better time and we can't wait to return!

  • We had such an amazing stay in this beautiful village. The house was perfect, with lots of lovely little touches to make it a real home from home, and with stunning countryside right on the doorstep. We just wish we could have stayed longer!

  • Very relaxing and enjoyable get away, hosts were amazing and went above and beyond expectations

    Ben2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I went to the lovely cottage of Ceri and Ken for a six day leave in Wales. Besides the easy and fast communication, the warm welcome, the very good hospitality and the increadible location, the cottage is perfectly equipped and very clean. It is also a little heaven to come home after a long walk in the beautifull surroundings... In short: this Airbnb is everything where it stands for on the site and even more!

  • Absolutely beautiful place, lovely personal touches and complimentary cakes - all vegan as well which was fab. And the bathroom is gorgeous! Great location and great village.

    Emily2019-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely cottage in a stunning location. Ceri is very thoughtful and makes you feel that you are the only people that she has hosted, a real personal touch. The most comfortable bed, great kitchen with plenty of utensils if you wish to cook and a great bathroom to soak aching legs after taking in the fantastic scenery.

    Rachel2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • This is a delightful cottage, renovated with care and style. It is clean and very well equipped. The bathroom is fabulous. Ceri is a lovely host, welcoming and generous with thoughtful touches such as delicious cake. Corris is a little village with a big heart, friendly pub and stores serving breakfast/ lunch walks from your door and fabulous coast and mountains near by. I highly recommend Ceri's place.

I want emphasise to all our visitors that you must not use the postcode in a sat-nav for the last bit of the journey....LL36 9TR in a sat-nav directs you up the wrong lane to Bodilan Fawr- the geographical centre of the postcode. Walks, cycle, bird watch, fish. Visit Cader Idris mountain sheep farm, see/feed horses, dogs, etc. Children love! Views to Bird Rock down valley fields towards sea. Peace! Every facility needed in van. Single van in secure walled grass garden, trees.
Below is a description from a guest describing the caravan: ‘Well, where do we start?! This was just everything and more! The caravan is fully equipped for all our needs, even has free wifi! The Garden is perfect and more than we hoped and the area just bliss, The views are stunning! The caravan is funky! The bed super comfy! All you need is driving distance. its perfect for relaxing and gives you a very special secluded feeling... Thank You.
  • This is our third stay in the caravan. We love coming here. The area is stunning, the caravan is cosy and warm and the children love exploring the beatiful surroundings. Ken and family are great hosts. It's the perfect place to relax. Thank you again. Hope to be back again soon!

    Heidi2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful venue for a weekend away, the views were stunning (when the weather was clear anyway!) and it was perfect for a hideaway from the modern world. No signal, check! Local pub, check! Awesome views, check! On site dog, check! What more do you need!? My only bit of advice is on the instructions to get to the caravan, where its says turn left (from the East by the way!), to make sure you are on the right road look for a building on your left-hand side (before you leave the village) with a burgundy and cream text sign. Then just keep driving straight for about 1.5 to 2 miles up/down/back up again/down etc until you see the phone box. But all in all, what a fabulous location for a fabulous price!

    Charlotte2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Incredible location, worth it even just for the view from the caravan window. Well located for hikes and exploration.

    Alun2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • Another super stay at this cozy breakaway. It was just what we needed after Christmas, just some time away from our busy lives. The caravan is a little hideaway where you really can escape your troubles. All you need is here, the only thing you need is your food, clothes and selves. Great walks, great views and good location. If you want to be scheduled then here is the place to be. Perfect for the dogs with enclosed garden. We loved seeing the animals too. Home from home as we live in a village full of farms but it’s nicer to be somewhere new. We will be back soon. 😊

    Rachel And Ben2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful location with everything you need within the caravan. Beautiful surroundings and wildlife, great for kids too! We’ll definitely be back!

    Kirsty2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • This is quite an old-fashioned caravan but everything works fine, it's warm and dry, and it's in the most beautiful spot surrounded by mountains, streams and farm animals. We've been twice and will definitely come again.

    Simon2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • Over all a great stay, would recommend

    Zac2019-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is a retro caravan in a stunning location. It is rough around the edges, as you would expect for a caravan of that age, but it was comfortable, dry and got very cosy in the cold weather with the gas fire lit. We arrived late on Sunday night, a bit nervous about being so isolated in case of issues checking in but all was very straight forward and easy. The hosts had warmed the caravan for us and left us some delicious welsh cakes and Madeira and everything we could need. If you like being close to nature (we mostly camp) and want to immerse yourself in the beauty of the mountains this is a fabulous place offering unparalleled value for money. We spoke to our hosts a couple of times and found them very friendly, kind and accommodating. They were flexible about last minute alterations to our stay. Thank you, Lisa, Ken and Hefina.

Corris is a unique Welsh village, small in size but big in heart. It is surrounded by spectacular countryside and is an ideal base to explore the hills and mountains of Snowdonia. Corris has a strong community spirit and a very welcoming atmosphere. It boosts a great real ale local pub and a tasty organic café, both just a minute's walk from the cottage. Both establishments welcome dogs. Round the corner from the cottage is The Corris Railway, a small narrow gauge preserved railway, where you can take a ride in a old fashioned steam train, a popular excursion for families. For gin lovers, there's the local gin distillery just over the road in the Corris Craft Centre, within walking distance from the cottage. The seaside town of Aberdyfi is only 25 mins away with its beach, harbour, cafes and restaurants.
  • Tan y Bryn is a fabulous cottage with fabulous scenery all around. Even the house opposite has a collection of bird feeders attracting siskins, blue and great tits, robins . The cottage is very well equipped with everything you could need. The bed was lovely and comfortable and everything was spotlessly clean. The woodburner made it extra cosy in the evening.

  • Fab cottage in a nice little village, perfect for exploring the local area. Loved the log burner, very cosy in the evening. Really comfortable beds with quality bedding. The cottage is really good value for money and Jane is a fabulous host! One of our favourite Air bnb properties and we will hopefully get to spend some more time there in the future.

    Andrew2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • I could not recommend this cottage more highly. We had a lovely break, even in the driving rain! The cottage was warm and cosy and it was a lovely place to recharge our batteries. Jane has thought of everything you could possibly need as a guest and the bedding, rugs, blankets and artwork in the cottage make it feel very luxurious.

    Lucy2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in your beautifully furnished cottage, it’s immaculately clean, lovely and cozy. We also loved the location with stunning scenery and lots of enjoyable walks on the doorstep. Everyone in the village was welcoming and friendly, especially the local organic coffee shop and pub. We’d love to stay here again and would highly recommend.

    Amy2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful little cottage in a stunning area. Upon arrival we noticed straightaway how clean everything was, the kitchen has everything you could need, and the lounge is just a nice, cosy place to be, especially when with a log or two on the fire. Upstairs was the same, very clean and the beds were very comfortable. All in all it’s a great place to stay and also very accommodating if you have a dog. It’s the perfect location to explore the surrounding areas with dog walks right on the doorstep. Will definitely be visiting again.

    Mike2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Had a super stay in the most perfect, warm and welcoming Welsh village cottage. Everything from the lovely welcome tray, super comfortable beds with top quality bedding, white fluffy towels, fantastic powerful shower with plenty of hot water, comfortable lounge with wood burner and exceptionally well equipped kitchen really was immaculate. The owners have thought of everything and have been an absolute pleasure to deal with. Highly recommend Tan y Bryn for a relaxing, peaceful break away from it all - a little gem which we will most definitely go back to. Thank you Jane and Dan.

    Julie2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Tan y Bryn is an idyllic cottage in the welsh country side. If your after peace and quiet then this is certainly the place to go. The cottage was the perfect size for our party of 4 adults and a toddler. We were welcomed with a bottle of sparkling wine and truffles which was such a lovely touch to our New Years break. Jane is a lovely host and although we experienced a little hiccup she responded to this straight away and was resolved within a few hours. Will definitely consider returning again. Thank you!

    Emily2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Me and my family we spent a couple of days in Jane’s beautiful and very cosy cottage. We liked going back there after a busy day out. We found the cottage very clean and everything what we needed was there. Jane is a lovely host, on the day of our arrival our son was not feeling well and Jane let us check in earlier that 4pm. We also loved the village, such a quiet place with amazing views and friendly people. I highly recommend Jane’s cottage to everyone who wants to slow down and recharge their batteries.

  • This is a beautiful old cottage with lots of beautiful original features, comfortable furniture and a location that takes some beating! The cottage is extremely well equipped, with all you would need for a stay of any duration. We were only staying for a weekend, in order to escape fireworks, and didn't venture very far due to the weather, but will definitely be back to check out the village pub, gin distillery and have a drive out to the craft centre. The owners communication was excellent and all necessary information was provided in a timely manner.

    John2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Petrina's welcoming cottage in Corris at the end of October, the weather was mixed but we had a lovely time. The log fires were amazing and we were also able to go on some lovely local walks in the forest, up Cadair Idris and along the Aberdovey and Twyn beaches. Of course, we also visited the many local attractions such as the craft center, village coffee shop and the CAT center. The cozy cottage was cleaned to an exceptional standard for our arrival; there was a lovely welcome gift provided for us also. The instructions for the cottage were very clear, the advice on starting the fire was especially appreciated; you can tell the host has put a lot of care into preparing the property for their guests, you really feel like you are in their home. We will definitely be staying again!

  • Love this house. It's in a beautiful location on the edge of the village. It's not "High End" but is furnished comfortably and in keeping with the age of the place. We found everything you could want for a holiday there. Clean and well equipped with a charm all of it's own.

The house is in a village 4 miles from Machynlleth and is a great stop-over for travellers heading into North Wales (please note Mt Snowdon is still a 2 hour drive away). We are only a few miles from Cadair Idris mountain, the Wales coastal path, and 1 mile from the Centre for Alternative Technology. National cycle route 6 passes through the village. The location is ideal for CAT students, mountain bikers and those with an interest in the Mach Loop. Long term stays welcome.
I offer a comfortable, single, private room in my non smoking house, in a quiet village in mid Wales. I have been an air BnB host for a few years now, and am very happy to assist your stay. I provide bed linen, duvet, blanket, towels, shampoo/shower gel & soap, a simple breakfast (cereal, toast, home-made preserves, fruit, fruit juice, tea and coffee) and there is a kettle in your room for making hot drinks. There is a small meditation room in the house offered for private meditation, personal reflection or quiet reading. There are 2 friendly cats living here.
Our village is situated 4 miles from the nearest town of Machynlleth, and is ideally placed for anyone wishing to explore mid/north Wales or attending local festivals/events. I am also only 1 mile from the famous Centre for Alternative Technology. We have a friendly local pub in the village serving food at weekends, and occaisional live music or pub quiz evenings and pool night. The next village along from us, Corris, has a small village shop where you can buy emergency groceries, toiletries, gifts and stop for an excellent coffee and bite to eat. Corris also has a village pub, and is a pleasant half hour walk away or 5 mins on the bus. Machynlleth is an attractive market town with a market every Wednesday, small shops, a supermarket, several cafes and pubs, a delicateson specialising in local Welsh produce, antique shops, a library with free internet and Wi-Fi access, a wholefood shop and cafe, a leisure centre open 7 days a week with a gym and swimming pool, a museum/art gallery with café, and several tourist opportunities in and around the local area. My house is in a residential street, but is a no through road, so is fairly quiet and safe. It backs onto open fields, and there are several footpaths and mountain bike trails very close by to explore. The Dyfi Osprey project is not far away, and the Ynys Las RSPB reserve, former site of the BBC Springwatch programme. We are surrounded by some stunning scenery, be it mountains and lakes, or beaches and rivers. I will provide up to date tourist information with details of local attractions and places to visit.
  • Lovely clean and spacious room. Very peaceful and quiet giving a restful nights sleep. Leigh is a lovely host and I really enjoyed making friends with the cat.

    Trevor2019-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Great hospitality, very conveniently located for workshops at the CAT and just a hop, skip, and a jump from Machynlleth itself. Everything was clean, neat, and tidy; there were plenty of blankets, towels, and tea!

  • Definitely recommend staying with Leigh. I was at an event in CAT for the weekend. The walk from the house to CAT is really beautiful and less than half an hour but there is also a bus if you don't fancy walking. The house is located in a lovely quaint village with a fab pub and lots of friendly faces. Leigh is a fab host, very warm and welcoming. The meditation room and the cat were extra bonuses for me. I loved my stay here.

    Rachael2019-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • It was lovely to stay at Leigh's home. It was very pleasant. Great location!

    Iona2019-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely lovely host. Leigh was friendly and accomodating when my friends accommodation fell through, and allowed him to join us in her home. Everything was lovely, clean and as advertised. 10 minute drive from Machynlleth town centre, either a taxi (£8-£10) or a bus drive away so tucked away, but an easy commute into town. Breakfast was a lovely bonus, which I didn't realize was included, but was just what I needed to start my day, a cup of tea, a bowl of cereal and a slice of toast with Leigh's delicious homemade preserves! I'm definitely going to stay again!

    Rachel2019-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • Leigh was an excellent host, hospitable and friendly. The room was very comfortable and breakfast was a thoughtful extra. The location was perfect for CAT (a lovely 30 minute stroll or 5 minutes by bus), Mach, Corris and beyond. I would definitely recommend staying with Leigh and I hope to return in the near future.

    Felicity2019-04-12T00:00:00Z
  • where do I begin!? Leigh was not only an amazing host with a beautiful home in a quiet and magical part of Wales, she addressed my questions and interests like a friend from day one. She was helpful beyond belief with my intentions of networking in the area, and her two cats are the best company. Treat her with the respect she deserves for Leigh is one in a million and you will love every moment in her home.... it was hard to leave.

    Pele2019-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • Leigh was the perfect host to me. Quick to respond to my late booking, very welcoming and took time to chat over breakfast. That's one of the main reasons we like Airnbnb; you're staying with someone who feels more like a friend than a host. Thanks for a great base for the walking and cycling and to hear of the valuable work you do with children.

  • A lovely retreat perfect either for a weekend spent indoors cuddling and reading (as we did due to the weather) or for exploring the area, which is stunning and presents lots of opportunities for walks and drives, a better view around every corner. Will definitely be returning in warmer weather to take more advantage of the surroundings, but the cottage as is was also a perfect little holiday.

Situated on a very steep hillside this house are two slate quarry workers cottages made into one comfortable house. The cottage is from the 19th Century and most of the furniture is period. However, the kitchen and bathrooms are modern.
This is a place to retreat to, away from the hustle and bustle. The single bedrooms are small but the double is very roomy. There is no wifi or internet connection, no telephone or television.
The area was extremely important in the age of slate and there are mementos of that time to be seen everywhere.
  • This is a cosy historic cottage, tucked away from the world, surrounded by history and natural beauty. Fantastic for those who enjoy the simple things and a lot of space for great value!

  • What an amazing place! I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to stay in such an unusual home in such a beautiful setting. The village of Corris is a truly lovely place to stay and being able to stay somewhere that's both so nice and so close to woodland isn't something that you come across everyday. I very much doubt you'll regret booking a stay here!

This house is a recently fully renovated miner's cottage in a beautiful village in Wales. It has two large bedrooms ( double bed and a bunk), a living/dining room, a kitchen and a bathroom. The house is ideally placed for all the village amenities, being about 100 yards from both the local pub and award winning cafe and shop. Corris is in an outstanding area for natural beauty, perfect for walks and cycling and is only about 20 minutes from the charming seaside resort of Aberdovey.
This house has one living room downstairs, with a TV (for DVDs) a triple seater sofa and a single chair. This room also double as a dining room, and the table can be pulled out to seat four. The bathroom, with bath, shower and toilet is also downstairs. The kitchen, in an extension at the back, contains hob, oven/grill and microwave, a sink and dishwasher. There is a good supply of usual kitchen utensils. Up the narrow stairs are two good sized bedrooms; one with a double bed and one with two single bunks. This house is a still a bit of a "work in progress" so depending when you stay you may find things like the bathroom ceiling or loft hatch is not painted, but I am getting round to them, None of these will impact on your stay.
Corris is one of the most beautiful and friendly villages in Wales. Containing a superb coffee shop, great for chatting to locals who will make you feel very welcome, and a traditional Celtic pub, serving great food and beer. There is also the Corris Institute which holds events and also has a part time post office and another coffee shop. The Corris railway is something for small gauge enthusiasts and runs at intervals throughout the year. The village is perfectly placed to access some of the most outstanding walks and views in all of Wales, as well as within easy reach of the towns of Machynlleth (the ancient capital of Wales) and Dolgellau.
  • Fabulous. The cottage, is perfect, and in an absolutely beautiful location. It really can’t be faulted. This was my 7th stay at Neil’s cottage, I love it there.

  • A very well equipped cottage in the hub of the village of Corris, kept very clean and tidy. Ideal for those exploring Corris and its local area. Has a pub with good food across the road plus a cafe / shop too. The Corris Railway is very nearby. Need to check opening hours for all though. Thoroughly recommended

  • Neil's cottage is cosy, neat and clean. It's really well equipped and the location is great for visiting both the coast and mountains. The pub over the road was really friendly and the food was excellent - there's also a cafe which looked great for breakfasts which we didn't have a chance to try out. Neil's instructions were clear and he responded really quickly to our questions. Excellent value for money.

  • Thanks to Yosie and Javier for the great stay. Javier was great to talk with and gave me loads of tips for walks locally and cool places to check out. He even lent me a raincoat (in Corris this was essential). Yosie was really friendly too. Large kitchen, clean rooms and a spacious living room to unwind in. Coupled with a local pub nearby and an amazing view!

Escape to the beautiful Dyfi Valley: walk & cycle in the mountains, relax on sandy beaches, enjoy a pint by the fire in the local pub or lunch in the village cafe. A traditional cottage looking onto river & mountains with all you need for a comfortable break.
The cottage is traditionally furnished with all you will need for a comfortable break including wood burning stove, TV and Freesat and a well equipped kitchen. The bedrooms are cosy and bright with amazing views over the mountains and down to the river. A second floor balcony provides a great viewpoint and an awning on the patio means the garden can be enjoyed in all weathers.
Corris is arguably the friendliest village in Wales and certainly one of the most beautiful. After holidaying here in the summer of 2015, just four months later we had left our lives in Essex to live here that's how much we love it! With stunning walking and cycling routes on your doorstep, the market towns of Machynlleth & Dolgellau nearby, a short drive to white sand beaches and the second most climbed mountain in Wales, Cadair Idris only minutes away, Corris is the perfect base for an adventure or a relaxing break in majestic scenery. There are also plenty of attractions including CAT (Centre for Alternative Technology), Corris Craft Centre, King Arthurs Labyrinth and the village even has its very own steam train!
  • A warm little house with amazing access to South Snowdonia in a lovely village. The place was clean and tidy and the host was very responsive and accommodating. Recommended.

  • Loved our stay in Corris. The house is full of character and is beautifully surrounded by forests and rivers. The rooms were comfortable and cosy. The Slaters Arms is a great grade 2 listed pub and highly recommend it for food and a great pint! The house and location is highly recommended.

  • Great place to access the Climax trail (mountain bike) or hiking. Bring food and supplies.

    Mirka2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • We visited Corris during a very cold January spell for a family celebration. The cottage has a small footprint but three floors, with a double bedroom on the first floor and a twin room on the top floor. Ideal for us and two teenagers. It is very comfortable and cosy, in a lovely position backing on to the river. In warmer weather the outside space would also be nice. Good to have been supplied the basics such as tea, coffee etc....and a wood burner as the temperature fell below zero! We would definitely stay here again. Thanks.

    Orston2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Lovley place. Tiny and cosy. Beautiful surroundings.

    Ewa2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is in a beautiful location in the Welsh mountain countryside. We were made to feel very welcome and Lauren's hospitality was outstanding. Lovely thoughtful touches throughout the cottage and clean, ready amenities. Thank you!

    Sharn2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect place for a short, cosy weekend away. Quick walk to the local pub, shop and craft centre (which we did find was closed in winter, like many of Wales’ attractions). Easy drive to local nature spots too - a very beautiful setting! The cottage itself was clean, cosy and just right for a weekend away. We enjoyed using the log burner in the evenings, and had everything we needed to cook basic meals. Thanks again!

Welcome toTy Popty which is situated on a working beef and sheep hill farm in the beautiful Snowdonia national park. Ty popty is detached with your own private garden. A trip on the steam train from Abergynolwyn to Tywyn is a must with breathtaking views along the way. A lovely village pub and cafe at Abergynolwyn two miles away . The picturesque Tal y llyn lake is a short walk away. Explore Cader idris which is within walking distance and the old castle ruins of Castell y Bere.
  • Stayed with a view to doing some hiking and generally looking around the area. Cottage is spacious with good sized rooms. Fairly well kitted out. Location is reasonably remote (about 2 miles to village) so quiet. Cottage was clean and we appreciated the Welsh cakes, wine and milk. TV uses fire stick so gets catch up tv (and Netflix if you have an account). Arrival/check in went well. So good getaway location, quite a lot to see in the area with good walks.

    Andrew2019-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • the cottage is very cosy and in a great location. the sound of the river is great to wake up to in the morning. be prepared to have no TV signals, luckily we took a firestick so we had Netflix etc. the cottage is well equipped, just a couple of things that we could have done with such as a lighter for the fire and a big enough frying pan. however it was a nice touch to find blankets in the wardrobes and having prosecco, Welsh cakes and shortbread to see in the new year. the quarrymens walk that you start from abergynolwyn village is great for views and if you want to get your steps and floor count up for the day.

    Kate2019-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful cottage. Secluded, but not off the beaten track, and very close to Cadair Idris, not to mention the pub in nearby Abergynolwyn. The property was clean, well-equipped, with a lovely bathroom and three comfortable bedrooms. The kitchen facilities were perfect for cooking hearty evening meals and it was a wonderfully welcoming place to come home to after a long day hiking. There are a couple of nearby pubs and restaurants (within a couple of miles) and the Co-op in Dolgellau was about a 15 minute drive. The Welsh Cakes and wine that William left as a welcome gift were much appreciated, as was the full log basket. We had a lovely few days and would definitely come back, just waiting for my legs to recover from climbing Cadair Idris!

  • We’ve just come back from 3 nights at the cottage and really couldn’t have wished for more! It is perfectly located for everything we wanted to do and the directions and messages we received from Chris meant we found it easily. The cottage itself is comfortable, cosy and a lovely home to return to at the end of a busy day out exploring the area. Chris had very kindly provided milk, bread and butter and even offered to get any shopping we might have needed when she was going to do her’s. She really did make us feel so welcome and very much at home. The cottage had everything we needed and more! We absolutely loved our stay here and would have no hesitation in recommending it to others. We hope to return again soon!

    Robert2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had a very relaxing weekend break at Chris's cottage - it is very cosy and has all the amenities you would need. The weather was also absolutely gorgeous which made it perfect to visit Barmouth and Portmeirion while we were there. We enjoyed some amazing mountain views and you can hear the stream flowing from their back garden while we sipped our tea - Chris was kind to leave us a loaf of bread, milk and butter to get us started. Scratch a.k.a. Mr Mukherjee, their cat is a bundle of joy - he popped in to say hello and got lots of cuddles from us. We would definitely recommend staying here!

  • We had a lovely long weekend at Chris & Adrian's cottage in Snowdonia. The cottage has everything you need for a short break and is super comfortable. It's ideally placed for walking, hiking & biking in the local area. We thoroughly enjoyed relaxing in the cottage - whether by the fire in the lounge or in the garden with it's amazing views. Chris & Adrian are super hosts and made us feel really welcome; they were full of helpful info regarding transport, places to visit & eat. We will definitely be back!

Dovey Valley Cottage is a cosy holiday cottage nestled on the bank of the river Dulas near Machynlleth, and within easy reach of Aberdovey, Dolgellau, Barmouth, Tywyn, Aberystwyth, Ynys Hir and Cadar Idris. This self-catering holiday cottage is ideally located for the coast and beaches, golf courses, beautiful walks, the RSPB nature reserve and mountain biking at Machynlleth and Coed-y-Brenin.
My cottage is self catering the nearest shop is 2.5 miles away, a car is useful but there is a bus service at the end of the road and railway station 3 miles away. Restaurants and dining can be found in Machynlleth (3 miles) Aberdovey beach (9 miles) cycling is very popular here as a Sustrans route runs past the door and some of the best mountain biking is 1.5 miles. You’ll love my place because of the views, the cosiness, and the location. My place is good for couples and families with children, however please be aware that there is no barrier to the river at the bottom of the garden so do consider this before booking.
The cottage stands alone on an unlisted road (Sustrans No.8 goes past the door) The original part of the building (home of the owners) was used for housing slate workers in the mid 19th Century who worked up at the quarry which is now the Centre for Alternative Technology. The guests cottage was added in the late 1990's.
  • Great place and great location, lovely welcome from the host and great advice on the restaurant.

    Tudor2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • The house was really clean and tidy, and the location was stunning. We were greeted with some Welsh cakes on arrival and a basked of wood for the fire. Sylvia was helpful and only next door. Would definitely stay again!

  • Sylvia and Tony were kind and her scones and jam were a nice touch for a warm welcome to their cozy and lovely cottage. The location is outstanding. The sound of river Dovey was relaxing and soothing. The place is beautiful, clean and beautiful bedding. Welcome tea, coffee, milk were ready for us. There are many wonderful places around to visit. The scenery is magnificent. Just looking outside from a window on a rainy day was magical. We had a great weekend.

    Tamara2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely tranquil place. Weather was mixed so we saw the river flowing at various heights and never got tired of observing it. Sylvia is a great host. Expect a warm welcome and enjoy what the area has to offer.

It has table and chairs under a veranda which means you can enjoy the outside space in all weathers . We hope you make use of the old stone outbuilding which has electric lighting and power . It also has good natural light , so it could be used as a studio or simply a secure building to store bikes etc The village has a welcoming pub, the Slaters Arms serving home cooked food, real ales and a selection of gins. There is a cafe in Idris Stores which specialises in vegan, vegetarian / healthy options, speciality coffees etc and off sales, as well as a good selection of groceries. Both the pub and Idris Stores have WiFi.

Sandy beaches are only half hour away. A short walk from the village is Corris Craft Centre home of King Arthur’s Labyrinth and the renowned Dyfi Gin Distillery, a must for gin lovers. • Really lovely cottage, in a really attractive village. The place was spotless, beautifully decorated, and we loved the log stove. Local recommendations: Corris Distillery, the pub at Cross Foxes (Slater’s arms also great for an evening drink), the Centre for Alternative technology is a fascinating wander and has a great veggie cafe for lunch, phone up and see the beavers at Blaeneinion.. The list goes on! Highly recommended.

We’re at the foot of Cadair idris. Cregannan lakes are only a few miles away. And of course, the George the third pub is only a 5 minute drive.. or a beautiful bike ride away!
  • A really nice cottage in an amazing area of natural beauty. Enjoyed seeing the two calves just out the front. Thanks

    Nick2019-12-21T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is hard to reach- you need a four wheel drive to get up the steep winding track, but it’s well worth the effort. The views over Cadair Idris are exceptional and the cottage is cosy, warm and comfortable. Its a perfect base for exploring the wonderful local area and for experiencing total peace and quiet. We’d definitely come again!

    Hilary2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • Well worth a visit!

    Kezia2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • Really lovely cottage up on the hills. Well worth the drive up. The cottage had everything we needed and was warm and cosy. Internet wasn't the best but we managed. We loved the local mountain biking and it's easy to get to the shops and pubs in Dolgellau.

    Jade2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing cottage; warm, comfortable and relaxing. Enjoyed 2 full days cycling and the breathtaking views, The standard of everything is excellent and highly recommend to any traveller. Would love to visit again!

  • Ela’s cottage is the perfect place for a quiet, relaxing stay in the Welsh Snowdonian mountains. Definitely need a 4x4 vehicle to access the place, steep and rough terrain drive up but it’s very worth it! The views are lovely, and the cottage has all the essentials. It is also close to hikes such as Cadair Idris, and forrest walks like Coed y Brennin. The welsh highlands steam railway is 45 min drive away which is great. Barmouth is very close, and has good places to eat, only about 15 min drive away. Even though the cottage itself is remote, it is close to some beautiful locations! We had a very comfortable stay here and would certainly recommend it!

    Lou2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic week at this lovely cottage. If you want peace and tranquility this is the place to go. The accommodation exceeded our expectations. We would highly recommend a visit.

  • Highly recommend this lovely cottage which has been beautifully restored and decorated to a high standard. Kitchen was well equipped and the complimentary welsh cakes and butter were a nice touch. Everything was clean and tidy and it was lovely and quiet. Fantastic views of Cadair Idris and the drive up to the cottage through the woodland was really lovely. Definitely a great place to stay if you want a relaxing and quiet weekend away.

Abergynolwyn is a small village, 3 miles from the spectacular Tal y Llyn & Cadair Idris, 10 minutes from Tywyn beach and 35 minutes from Barmouth. Our house is a traditional slate cottage which has been fully renovated for modern comfort while retaining original features. The front of the house has a lovely garden, perfect for sitting and listening to the babbling stream. There are stunning walks straight from the house, up to Nant Gwernol waterfalls or downriver through rolling hills.
There are 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths, a downstairs bathroom with bath, a master bedroom ensuite with shower and a toilet & sink in the attic room
The village is super friendly, the pub is fantastic and the scenery very beautiful. It is a quiet village so you can relax and enjoy the sounds of nature. There is a cafe but no shop. There is a great children's play area and the fabulous steam railway is a 10 minute walk up the hill (also with a brilliant play area that is free to use). You can take the steam train all the way to the beach!
  • A very lovely cottage; beautifully decorated; well equipped; idyllic setting; splendid place to spend Christmas; all we could have hoped for.

  • Kate is a great and considerate host who offers a fantastic and beautiful place to spend relaxing holidays in a stunning part of Wales.

    Claudia2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • It's always difficult travelling alone when you are used to being in a couple, but Kate's lovely house gave me a 'cwtch' as the Welsh say and I felt at home straight away. It's idyllic location with the sounds of the stream outside and the multitude of birdsong lulled me and I relaxed for the first time in ages. There is everything you need to be comfortable and I look forward to going there again.

    Rhiannon2019-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • Kate was really quick to respond to any queries, check in and out was a breeze, and we had a fantastic stay. Would definitely recommend.

    Rhiannon2019-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • A fabulous cottage, with everything well thought out and every comfort for a home from home. Our children loved the cabin beds and were excited to go to bed every night, which was an added bonus. The kitchen had everything we needed, to make meals in the evening and a pub just a few hundred yards away, if you felt like dinner out. Kate and her husband Andy, were very helpful, providing all the information we needed to get to the cottage, get inside and what to do in the area and all of this, while Kate went in to early labour. I would definitely recommend Katie's beautiful cottage to everyone who would like a wonderful and relaxing holiday. Perfect.

    Elizabeth2019-06-01T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful valley between several great destinations. We were trail riding by motorcycle, and there was space to park up, and a mud room to keep the rest of the house clean. It was cosy, really comfortable, and we had everything we could want on arrival. Kate was super responsive to any queries, replying within a minute usually. Even if you've got a weak arm, the local pub is a stones throw away, and it's a fantastic pub where the locals will welcome you in. Top notch.

The Bell House is a cosy hideaway in the heart of a former slate mining community close to Corris on the southern edge of Snowdonia. Lovingly restored, it's the perfect place to get away from modern life. Whether you're looking for a romantic break or a place to rest after an adventure through the stunning Welsh valleys, it's the perfect place to light the fire and watch the stars.
Ideal for couples, there is a double bed on the mezzanine, accessed by a steep ladder, therefore this property is unfortunately not suitable for children under 14 or those with mobility issues. There is also a double bed settee on the ground level, as is the bathroom. Underfloor heating is available, and we have a wood burning stove for you to use. Plenty of parking available. Please note, no wi-fi is available at present and there is limited phone signal. All part of getting away from the stresses of modern life!
Two miles from nearest pub, cafe, and village shop in Corris, and four miles from the Centre for Alternative Technology. 15 miles from the picturesque coastal harbour of Aberdyfi, with its popular 5 mile sandy beach. For railway enthusiasts, Talyllyn Railway is also nearby. We are also in the foothills of stunning Cadair Idris in Snowdonia.
  • A lovely cozy tiny house! It has everything and more. There are so many thoughtful touches, and quirky design features. I couldn’t recommend it enough. The area is outstanding for walking and my dog and I loved our weekend stay!

  • I can't express to you how much I loved my stay at 'The Bell House.' I was blown away instantly with it's quaint and petite look. I loved everything about it, from the decor, to the detail to the location. If you're looking to stay in a unique place and come away from a busy and hectic life, then here is your ideal place to be. It was soo good to get away from technology for abit. It's done wonders for me.

If you like walking, Cadair Idris is practically on the doorstep and there's a huge choice of walks to the forest, waterfalls and on the beautiful long beaches at Aberdovey and Tywyn (only 7 miles away). Kids can paddle and swim in the river next to the chapel you can hire mountain bikes in the village and adrenalin junkies are a short drive away from zipworld, white water rafting and a whole host of activities.
  • Cosy wee place to stay, Martin and Sue were very helpful throughout. Would definitely recommend.

  • A very special place. We had a very peaceful night and loved the chapel atmosphere.

    Kristin2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay whilst mountain biking in the area, a great clean space with everything you need for a happy stay will certainly be back!

    Myles2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent stay - was clean, tidy and welcoming. Easy to check in and I had the whole upper floor which was huge. Nice touches were a separate fridge, cutlery, milk and snacks which are great as you’re a little bit away from the shops. Saying that, it’s about a 12 minute drive to a huge co-op in Tywyn which was great (had a cashpoint and loads of choice), and in the opposite direction, Mach Loop/Cadair Idris. Will be returning if I get the chance to find out when they fly the jets through Mach loop!

  • Lovely, unique room in a converted chapel. Martin and Sue were very hospitable. Great location, close to some great hiking routes and good restaurants. Highly recommended!

  • Stayed for one night in the Vestry Suite. Lovely room, really comfortable and with all facilities you'd need. Great communication and a friendly welcome. Definitely felt looked-after. We'll no doubt be back again.

The Dairy was the original farm dairy building dating back to the 18th century. It has been converted into a one bedroom cottage, with fully fitted Kitchen/Diner. Bedroom, Sitting room and Wet room. Heating is by multi-fuel stove. The sitting room has a french door opening onto a private patio area with table and chairs, commanding spectacular views over the Cardigan bay to Bardsy Island and the Llyn Penninsular. The Old Dairy is a wonderful location for a relaxing holiday.
There is a lower patio area outside the Kitchen with mountain views. The Dairy is separated from the rest of the property by a wall and fence, and has its own gated parking area.. The 18th centuary old dairy is situated beyond the cottage and has its own gated entrance. It was origionally just one room, the store room being added above at a later date and was origionally accessed by a door opening onto the bank behind. The stairs were added by a previous owner. It has been sympathetically converted into a charming stone built, reasonably secluded holiday cottage.
Spend a holiday in the foothills of Cadair Idris, a land steeped in myth and mystery. Where King Arthur and Merlin, according to legend, once walked. Where the locals still speak a language older than Latin. The precipice walk above Dolgellau gives spectacular views along the valley. Creggennan lakes are 10 minutes walk from the cottage, the smaller lake is stocked, and the larger lake is wild. Fishing permits can be obtained from the farm above the lake, Ffridd Boedal. The hill above the lake is the ''Pared y Gefnhir'' it is from this hill that the house and cottage get their name. Arthog falls can be reached from the footpath opposite the church in Arthog. The Blue Lake above Fairbourne is an old reservoir, and the water is truly blue. It can be reached from Ffordd Panteinion, Friog. (opposite the telephone exchange) Parking can be difficult, but a few hundred yards up the road is a gate and style on the right, follow the path, it is quite steep, and it will lead to the blue lake. The water is always blue and ice cold!
  • I had a lovely time at John's place. I was looking for a rural walking retreat and I got it. In fact, just outside the door is a walk that takes you through beautiful hillside with a prehistoric past - cairns, ruins and standing stones. Just over 1hr15m south of Snowdon and a stones throw from the Mawddach trail. The cottage is small but lovely; the views from the terrace are gorgeous, the shower in the wet room is excellent (surprisingly good water pressure given the fact that you are up a hill) and the bed is super comfortable. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to escape the hustle and bustle.

  • Perfect spot for walking and seeing the sights right on the edge of Snowdonia National Park and not too far from the coast! The cottage has everything you could wish for and it truly is a beautiful property! Total privacy even though the cottage is right next door to the owners! Would definitely come back again without hesitation

  • A perfect spot by the river, with endless walking and cycling options nearby. Amie is a great host who was really helpful and gave us lots of great tips and things to do & see. The barn itself is gorgeous - would definitely recommend and hope to stay again myself before too long!

  • Beautiful converted cottage. Scenic, tranquil location, plush furnishing, well stocked kitchen, one of the best showers you’ll ever try! No complaints whatsoever, would love to stay again.

  • A beautiful cottage positioned right near the river. Very stylish finish with all amenities. Only 5 minutes drive from Macynlleth.

    Stephen2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • The surrounding is so nice and scenic. The interior is large but extremely cosy at the same time. It's easy to set up music and create your own vibe, it's a great place to chill in if you're gonna spend a lot of time there! We had no problems :)

    Pav2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is a fantastic cottage. The photos are accurate (showing a very high end development) but do not fully capture the little touches (really high quality bathroom fittings, great toiletries etc) and the setting (off a quiet road, but so close to so many amenities/activities). Amie has thought about all the practical details and has fitted the property with high quality items (you will notice the great high end hotel standard bedding and cutlery/crockery). For cyclists there is a secure store area and powerful hosepipe! Highly recommended.

The cottage is the original farmhouse, part of which dates from the late 16th century, and offers 3 bedrooms. Bed linen and towels are included. The kitchen is fully fitted with oven, hob, microwave, fridge, dishwasher, etc. The sitting room has small multi-fuel stove/enclosed fire, easy chairs and settee. HD TV with built in DVD player and Sky Q. There are books for light reading and free Wi-Fi.
Spend a holiday in the foothills of Cadair Idris, a land steeped in myth and mystery. Where King Arthur and Merlin, according to legend, once walked. Where the locals still speak a language older than Latin. The precipice walk above Dolgellau gives spectacular views along the valley. The water is always blue and ice cold!
There is the castle at Harlech, and the ruined Cymer Abbey just outside Dolgellau. There are mountains to climb, Cadair Idris is on the doorstep, and Snowdon is about an hours drive away. It is said that on a clear day the mountains of Ireland can be seen from the summit of Cadair. The stone bridge above Arthog can be found by walking up the road between the houses in the village, or by walking across the fields from the cottage. Nearby is a circle of stones believed to have once been a bronze age round house, and about half a mile away is a stone circle. There are many standing stones (menhirs) and barrows in this part of Wales. The old farm nearby, Pant y Llan, is believed to take its name from the site of an old monastic building which may have been on a ramped area above the farm many years ago.
  • This is a pretty cottage with lovely period features and well equipped. The views from the windows and garden are stunning and you have a mountain in the back garden! The lakes are beautiful and just a short walk away. John, the host, is very helpful and even left a few local food items for us. Beds are very comfy and super clean. Access is via a steep road so novice drivers and those with underpowered vehicles might find that a challenge. However, the drive up is well worth the effort! Snowdon is about an hour's drive away but make sure you book the train up (£££s) well in advance, particularly in the summer. If you can, walk one of the easier paths! Local shops in Fairbourne are pretty basic but there is a decent Co-op in Dollgethau. WiFi works OK but, as you would expect from such a location, is not superfast. The Sky TV works great and a nice fire in the evening and a glass of wine is a perfect end to a day walking or seeing the sights. Highly recommended, we may well go back!

Cosy room with view of the hills in a terraced Grade II listed cottage in small slate-mining village in Snowdonia National Park. Near Cader Idris, Talyllyn Lake and the Talyllyn Narrow Guage Railway. Village is friendly, peaceful and tranquil.
This is a unique space because the cottage is a Grade II listed building which was built in 1870 as one of a row of slate cottages built to house workers in the slate quarry located up the hill behind the cottage. It has many original features and a lovely view of the hills from the back garden.
The village has a lively village pub which serves delicious evening meals and a community centre with a cafe also serving delicious homemade food cooked by experienced chef. The pub often haslive music and community singing at weekends. There are a myriad of pleasant woodland walks of varying lengths and challenge literally on the doorstep as well as nearby tourist beaches and attractions and a number of small towns hostinglocal shops and markets.
  • Jaynes property is stunning and gives you a very homely feel. The cottage is visually stunning and feels cosy and welcoming immediately. I stayed due to work commitments in the area but would definitely return and explore the village and the highly recommended food at the pub, which is 30 yards from Jaynes property. Breakfast was all provided for me by Jayne and even though I stayed due to work commitments it was fantastic to come downstairs to my selection of cereals and cutlery all ready for me. Special touches and a really clean comfy bed made it a perfect stay. I highly recommend staying here.

  • Jayne was very friendly and welcoming. Her home was very cosy, comfortable and clean. Abergynolwyn is a beautiful little village that is close to plenty of amazing things to explore. Breakfast was great and there was plenty of cereal, toast and fruit. Thank you Jayne for your lovely hospitality.

  • Jayne was a great host, the communication was excellent and Jayne provided useful information about the area and our stay at her place!

    Elisavet2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Jayne was a wonderful host and had a great variety of local tips to offer! Highly recommend staying here if you’re looking for a place off the beaten path but with plenty to offer.

    Jane2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed in Jayne's cottage for a few days in July. The location is magical, in a village surrounded by wonderful walking country - Cadair Idris is within reach in a good day's hike. The Tal-y-Llyn railway, an old steam mining railway which runs to Tywyn, is also very close. The village is small and there aren't any shops, but there is a community centre with a cafe that serves excellent food. The bedroom is comfortable and very quiet, with views over to the other side of the valley. Jayne is very friendly and welcoming, and knows a lot about the local area. It was very useful being able to use the kitchen as there are limited options for eating out in the evening. And of course, having breakfast served was a lifesaver! Perfect for a peaceful getaway in a very beautiful part of Wales.

    Michael2019-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • 3 Tan-y-bryn Street is a slate walled terraced house close to the middle of Abergynolwyn, a village that was developed in the 1860's to house workers at the near by slate mine. Jayne's house provides a bedroom with adjacent bathroom on the first floor. Jayne provides an excellent and wide variety of breakfast options which are served in the downstairs living room. The living room is also available as a place to relax in the evening. Jayne is a very welcoming host with extensive knowledge of the area. The Railway Inn, the village pub, is 2 minutes walk away and serves good quality pub food. Abergynolwyn is a great base for exploration of southern Snowdonia with plenty of local walks and waterfalls as well as access to Cader Idris, a mountain to the east and the sea at Tywyn to the west. It also provides access to the Talyllyn Railway which was the first volunteer run steam railway in the UK with a chance to see operating 150 year old preserved locomotives and rolling stock.

Located in Southern Snowdonia National Park and within the picturesque Dovey Valley sits 'Maesywerngoch', a 300+ year old luxurious and spacious Welsh Longhouse. Maesywerngoch sits in 3+ acres of landscaped gardens and is located in southern Snowdonia National Park within the International Dark Sky Reserve and the Dyfi Biosphere. Whether you are looking to get away from it all or plan to climb all of the peaks that Wales has to offer, Maesywerngoch is the perfect base for your party. This truly unique property sleeps 10 adults comfortably, bunks for 2 children, 2 cots are available and an air mattress. Maesywerngoch is located 3 miles up a forest track from the pretty village of Pennal. This lovely village contains the church of St. Peter ad Vincula which is notable as the site of the last senate meeting held by the renegade Welsh prince, Owain Glyndwr. We highly recommend that you have a wander around this fantastic church and then go across the street to the Glan Yr Afon/Riverside country pub. This fabulous pub is an ideal venue for all celebrations and booking is highly recommended. There are loads of lovely walks that start from this pub. Take the high road from Maesywerngoch and explore the former slate mining village of Corris which is about 10-15 minutes from the house. Children and adults will delight in visiting King Arthur's Labyrinth, Corris Mine Explores, Craft Centre and Corris Railway. Further up the road is the world famous Centre for Alternative Technonolgy. A visit to the historic market town of Machynlleth is a must. Market day is Wednesday. Visit the Owain Glyndwr Centre, MOMA Wales, RSPB Ynys Hir Nature Reserve, Dyfi Osprey Project and so much more. Stop at the White Lion Pub or the famous and historic Wynnstay Hotel on the High St. for a pint and meal. The seaside town of Aberdovey is a 20 minute drive along the scenic Dyfi Drive overlooking the beautiful estuary. Take the kids crabbing off of the pier, have lunch overlooking the stunning Cardigan Bay, stop for an ice cream and enjoys the miles of beaches. Lots of walks in the area. As you can see, there are loads of things to do in the area. I have only just scratched the surface here. Come and see for yourself this beautiful part of Wales.

  • We have just returned from a fantastic weekend at Maesywerngoch for a birthday celebration. The house slept 14 adults very comfortably and there were even additional airbeds set up to accommodate us. The house and grounds were exceptional, photos do not do this justice. Within an hour of arriving at the house we were all planning our next visit! We particularly enjoyed playing badminton and rounders in the garden, there was a cupboard full of games and supplies, we were very lucky to have the sun with us.

    Lauren2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • It's a great space! We had 10 people (including 4 kids 5-13), they all loved it. Plenty of room, hardly watched any TV, just beach trips, town visiting, a castle or two, market trip, CAT visit, bird feeding and family dinner, drinks and games in the evening. The drive up is an experience, but the track really isn't too bad in this weather. You really should try the Aga - never used one before, really good to cook with, even if you just do baked potatoes to start off with. Everyone now wants one. Plenty of room for parking, Terry is really helpful and quick to respond if there is an issue, water direct from the bore hole is like nothing you get out of a tap in the city! Weather was not fantastic, but even so, still lots to do and as long as yo have good company it really isn't an issue. House is big enough that if you have bad company, you can still get away from them... Lovely week, thank you very much! A

  • Susan's place, Maesywerngoch, is a big, beautiful house set in some of the most idyllic surroundings you could hope to see in the UK. The property has more than enough space for a big group of people and the large communal rooms and comfy bedrooms gave us a feeling of great ease and relaxation. Maesywerngoch certainly earns the epithet 'unique'. Quite simply, a magical place to stay.

  • It's hard to say anything that hasn't been said before. Susans House is beautiful and massive, easily big enough to comfortably host 3 families without feeling on top of each other, and has everything you could possibly need. But the best thing about the house is the location. The boys loved bouncing up the track (which is very doable in an Audi), and once there we felt like we were totally away from everything. It's amazing. There are some lovely walks from the house with woods to explore and streams for the kids to play in. Thanks once again Susan, and we will hopefully see you in the Autumn for Amy 40th birthday. Nick and the gang.
