Places to stay in Simmons Gap
This quaint cottage is tucked into a mountainside offering beautiful views. The interior is warm and inviting and has everything you will need for a relaxing retreat from the rest of the world.
The entire place is yours during your stay. Recently acquired from David VanDerveer by his nephew Ken Argenbright, the cottage is still closely associated with the White Lotus Eco Spa Retreat (15 minutes away) and guests are welcome to come enjoy all of its amenities. Ken has been helping David to host and maintain the White Lotus and David will continue to co-host with Ken for Shepherds Cottage.
  • Shepherds Cottage is a great getaway place! Loved being so close to the mountains!

  • If you are looking for a secluded cabin with beautiful mountain views and peace and quiet (even though you can hear the stream running while outside), book this adorable cabin!

  • Absolutely enjoyed my stay at Ken's cottage. It's the perfect space to isolate, detach, and unplug from all the craziness of the everyday life. Super cozy once you get the fire going and the place warms up, making it a wonderful stay in the winter. But the view and the tub(!) would make it amazing through the rest of the year as well. Totally plan on visiting again in the different seasons. Also, a short (15-20 min) drive to the Swift Run Gap entrance to Shenandoah NP and Skyline Drive, perfect location to go for a day of hiking and spot to come back to.

  • The view is phenomenal! I walked in and was greeted by music and a very cozy environment. Huge bed to sprawl out on and enjoy coffee, lovely couch closer to the window if you prefer that, the brick floors really pull it all together. Amazing aesthetic!

  • Comfortable bed and beautiful scenery.

  • Sheppard’s cottage was exactly what I was looking for. We wanted a quiet getaway in a home away from home and that’s exactly what we got! Loved that there were windows to wake up to a beautiful views and there was even a window in the bathroom so that you always have a view of the outside. The cabin is on a hill which makes it feel more secluded and love being in the woods. We enjoyed our stay and would love to stay again! Ken was a great host and we enjoyed all the local tips!

    Shantelle2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful and clean spot! 100% coming back again! Thank you!

    Kate2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you Ken. Your a great host and quick to respond when I was booking. The cottage is very private and cozy. The wood stove is a great bonus! It was the perfect getaway! I didn’t want to leave! It’s located close to the river with great places to hike nearby. I’ll be back for sure!

  • Beautiful cabin, very comfy spot for a retreat either inward to relax together, outward on the grounds or even for a drive up into the mountains. We visited before the Shenandoah park fully opened in March and had it all to ourselves in 60º alpine sunshine.

    Thad2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this cabin!

    Jess2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • The bed was extremely comfortable and the space was beautiful!

  • We had a great time! We enjoyed walking around the property and taking in the scenery. It was so fun to watch the ducks and dogs run around. The views were pretty and it was the perfect escape we were looking for. Can’t wait to come back!

The Tiny House is open. Email me for info on our extra precautions. Looking to (re)treat yourself? Artists, writers, nature-lovers...welcome! The Tiny House is a place to reconnect with the wild and precious - within and around you. Located on a farm at the outskirts of Shenandoah National Park, this is a place to immerse yourself in beauty, simplicity, and down-to-earthiness. Hike the mountains. Visit local wineries or art galleries. Befriend a goat. Or, read a good book at pond-edge.
I'm still accepting weekend guests and taking extra precautions to sanitize the space - consistent with CDC/WHO guidelines. Let us support your physical and mental health needs in a gorgeous location. I have opened up onsite trails for your use - complete with mountain streams, rock outcroppings, and a fern glen. You can book sessions for my Resilience Counciling (see Facebook page) while you are here. I can also teach you to forage for wild foods and you can purchase fresh garden items when they are available. Ravens Ridge Farm is featured in my book, RidgeLines: A View of Nature and Human Nature (2019). This is a working farm in a natural setting. Three lovable working dogs will bark during the day (it's their job to protect the goats and sheep), but are typically inside by 10pm. Adorable, yet overly narcissistic, cats are likely to stop by for some cuddling. Wildlife abounds. You might get lucky enough to see one of the resident bears, foxes, or bobcats. During spring and summer nights you may hear chorusing frogs at the farm's three ponds, perhaps an owl, maybe a coyote. For a virtual introduction to the beauty and beasts, visit my Fine Art America gallery. Search Jamie K. Reaser on Fine Art America. Notes: I will make every reasonable effort to accommodate special needs. If you require particular lodging conditions (e.g., due to health concerns), please contact me before booking in order to ensure that I can fully support your stay. If this lodging is not a good fit for you, I may be able to suggest other local Airbnb options that will meet your specific needs. Ravens Ridge Farm is currently for sale. I will be opening the booking calendar on a monthly basis in order to reduce the likelihood that booking conflicts arise when the property goes under new ownership. I'm currently accepting bookings through June.
Shenandoah National Park's Central District entrance is just 4 miles away by road. In 10 minutes you can be in downtown Stanardsville, in 20 minutes Ruckersville, and a 50 minute drive will enable you to enjoy all the amenities of a university town - either Harrisonburg to the West or Charlottesville to the South. Art, antiques, boating, breweries, cideries, distilleries, dancing, dining, fishing, hiking, rafting, rock climbing...there is so much to do in central Virginia! Search Explore Greene County for local tourism information.
  • From the initial booking through our entire stay, Jamie was communicative and an excellent host. The Tiny House was wonderful, and had everything we could have wanted for our stay. And that's just the beginning. Jamie gave great local recommendations, and she showed us some great spots on ther property like the pond filled with frog and salamander eggs. We would love to come back and you should 10/10 stay at the Tiny House.

    Molly2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Very charming setting, quaint house, and beautiful land. Enjoyed our stay!

    Diane2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Jamie clearly puts a lot of thought into making the Tiny House a wonderful place to stay. The farm and surrounding area is beautiful and makes for a restorative get-away from the crowded, busy lives many of us lead. Highly recommend!

    Sarah2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • An art-graced, charming farm employing sustainable gardening practices and supportive of wildlife as well as friendly pets including goats and a sheep. The place is very special, nestled in a sunny spot in the Blue Ridge Mountains with sparkling streams below an abundance of mountain laurel and a pleasant hike to a gorgeous vista of the South River Valley. The Tiny House is a delightful place to stay.

    Deborah2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! Highly recommended! An incredibly peaceful location just outside Shenandoah National Park. You can feel your soul being cleansed as you immerse yourself in the woods. The "tiny house" isn't quite as tiny as you might think -- more like a small three-room apartment. We were quite comfortable and had everything we needed. The place was sparkling clean. The host is quick to communicate, warm, gracious, willing to share her knowledge of biology and the surrounding area. We love her...

    Eric & Erica2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • The Tiny house was nicer than the photos I saw. Clean and cozy rooms, adorable animals and stars in the night sky. Also, Jamie was a very kind host. I think staying here is one of the good choices to experience Shenandoah National Park.

    EUNJI2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • A peaceful, secluded place with all the right touches to make you feel cozy and at home.

    Cora2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • The place is small, but it was definitely way more functional than I thought it would be. It did not feel cramped and instead, was a perfect amount of space for a cozy winter weekend away. We loved watching the goats and petting the friendly cats on the property. There was also an alphabetized "where everything is" page in the binder, which was super helpful when we were cooking and didn't know where to find things! We had all these grand plans for exploring the area and doing some hiking, but we ended up spending the entire weekend in the tiny house drinking coffee, reading, and playing board games. It was the perfect weekend away from the city.

  • James’s place was great! We loved the view of the lake and spent a lot of time on the back porch. The hot tub was truly wonderful after a couple long days of hiking. We even had one day warm enough to get out on the canoes. Such fun! James was a thoughtful and responsive host.

This cottage is on a large, 110-acre farm in Rockingham County. On the property are three ponds (sorry, no fishing), hiking trails (sorry, no ATVs), and beautiful grounds. With the cottage, guests can use and enjoy the fire pit and seating (wood provided), outdoor grill, picnic table, and lovely grounds. There is a bug zapper to keep pesky bugs away. We would be happy to meet with you when you arrive to show you around. Close to Massanutten Resort. About 20 minutes from Harrisonburg.
This is a lovely rural area, yet close to Massanutten Resort (5 minutes) and the City of Harrisonburg, VA (20 minutes). There are some great local restaurants and wineries nearby (within 5 minutes). The property is 141 acres of woods and pastures with mowed trails and ponds, which you are welcome to explore at your leisure.
  • This cabin/cottage was clean, quaint, quiet, and cleverly appointed. It is a very comfortable, cozy space on a beautiful historic property with paths, ponds, woods, and views. The hosts are responsive and friendly without being intrusive. The place to be if you are looking to unplug!

The hosts were just incredible, going above and beyond to make our stay special. Highly recommend this spot!

  • Cottage 1 was great. We stayed there for a weekend to do some hiking in Shenandoah Valley. The cottage was exactly what I was looking for, homey and comfortable. All amenities were provided, and Denise was a great host.

  • This place was the perfect location for a weekend getaway! Denise and Tom were incredibly welcoming and kind at our arrival. Located on a great property and very close to Shenandoah National Park. The cottage was spotless and safe - we loved staying here and already want to come back!

  • Cozy little cabin! Wish I could have spent more time there, but it has everything you need to feel comfy and at home!

    Nicole2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a great time at our cottage. It was cute, clean, and roomier than expected! It slept all 4 of us comfortably. We loved the cat that hung out with us all weekend (Blue), we made fires every night, hiked the grounds, and even got to peek inside a few of the other cottages on the property after meeting the owners (who are absolutely wonderful and incredibly inviting)! This is the perfect little mountain getaway. We spent one afternoon in Harrisonburg (about 20 minutes away- home of James Madison University) and got some great homemade ice cream at Kline’s, saw a free show at the planetarium, and checked out the free Botanical gardens and aquarium. This is also very close (about 15 minutes) from the entrance of Shenandoah National Park- one of my favorite places on earth. We had the best time!

    Shinaya2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • As recently refurbished cottage, Sister’s View is one of the most stylish, and sparkling clean places I’ve stayed in. It has every amenity you can imagine, including fully stocked kitchen supplies, and a great DVD collection. The rain shower and yoga room were my favorite touches. The location is gorgeous and peaceful farmland.

    Brittany2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Sister’s View was fantastic. Jim was really easy to communicate with and check-in was seamless. The cottage is cozy and comfortable — perfect after a long day of hiking in Shenandoah! We’ll definitely stay here again next time we stop through the area.

    Francesca2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This place is all around fantastic. We could not get enough of how nice of a place Sister’s view is, and we didn’t want to leave. The views are picturesque and the cottage is immaculate, along with great customer service. Pair this with the prime location, and it makes a real winner.

    Aaron2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely loved our stay! Gorgeous sunrise and incredible scenery. Jim was responsive, amazing and the home was beautifully decorated with fabulous special touches to make us feel welcomed from the first moment to the last.

  • What a hidden gem! The pictures alone don’t do this place justice and I would honestly give them 10 stars if I could. My husband and I came for a short getaway to celebrate my 40th birthday. We were surprised with 2 gourmet cupcakes, and a house filled with literally everything one could need. The views were incredible...especially the sunrise and sunset. We took a trip to the Shenandoah Caverns which is about an hour drive from the home. The scenery is so beautiful, this was my first time not minding a long drive! It was truly amazing from beginning to end. We will definitely be returning! Thanks so much Jim!

    Chanel2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I really needed a little get away and Sisters View was beyond the perfect spot. Beautiful views, cozy and clean house, exceptional hospitality, what more could you ask for? We only had one night to enjoy the charm and we cannot wait to book again and enjoy it for an extended stay. 10/10.

  • My friend and I absolutely LOVED this stay. This is easily the nicest Airbnb I've ever stayed at. An absolute steal considering the price and amenities provided (all accurate). Check in was super duper easy with the lock box. We loved how cute the space was and the additional small touches (the guide book they put together is really amazing, no joke). We chose this location because we were going to go hiking in Shenandoah. This house is basically smack in-between the two halves of the park and the drive to the Swift Gap entrance was not long at all (we hiked 4 trails on the north side). Additionally, there are gas stations and other restaurants (local and other) located nearby (less than 15 minute drive). The scenes around the home are fantastic - surrounded by mountains - and very peaceful. Absolutely breathtaking. The first night we stayed, it was pretty cold outside, so the bedroom got a bit chilly when the door was closed. But that's okay! I've never slept on such amazing, fuzzy, warm bed sheets before in my entire life. All over the place were additional fuzzy blankets in case you got cold. You could probably fit an mattress or two easily if you didn't want to share a bed with your travel companion and also the couch is comfortable enough to sleep on if you so desired - just steal a pillow from the bed. Fireplace is electric/gas and works super well. Complete kitchen area. Spacious fridge and freezer and several utensils, cups, plates and such if you desire to cook. Several seating areas all around to eat or do work. Tasty packaged breakfast snack options and a Keurig with some K-cups provided. The TV is great if you want to log into one of your streaming accounts for a movie night. During the morning and day, you can hear the people living above walking around a bit, but it's really only audible from the main living area and even then I didn't think it was a huge deal. I wish we could have stayed longer (it seems like a great place to stay for multiple days). Would definitely stay again if I ever visit the area and will recommend to all of my friends!

The enchanting light-filled bedroom is replete with classical Rococo furnishings--crafted by the world-renowned Silik Company in the ancient city of Cantu, Italy, near Lake Como. The suite boasts a marble bathroom with a deep jacuzzi tub, and a private outdoor viewing deck. Included are all of the many other amenities that The White Lotus has to offer.
  • Room was gorgeously furnished with plenty of natural light. We didn't get to explore the retreat too much for the sake of "social distancing", but the cute little kitchen nook in the space met all of our needs. Price was very reasonable, I've already recommended this retreat to two people.

    Gabriella2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • Solid place for the price, nice and private. The only con I can think of is the kitchen does not have a separate sink, and bathroom sink was needed to be used.

    Brody2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing views and property

    Timothy2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Spacious room, able to cook on a plug in stove, extremely quiet, access to a walmart and a short drive to shenandoah national park.

  • Alexandra's cottage was absolutely amazing! It's peaceful, quiet, and equipped with everything that you would need for an enjoyable stay. It's close to great wineries but restaurants and grocery stores are a bit further out (12 mi and about 30 mins) so plan well. Also, cell service can be spotty in some areas so make sure you have a service that has great coverage.

    Matthew2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Alexandra’s cottage was SO dreamy. I stayed for two nights as part of a silent getaway, so I spent most of my time at the cottage or enjoying the back deck. The location was breathtaking and Alexandra had everything I needed to feel right at home. I’m so glad I stayed!!

    Taylor2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful escape to the mountains. I booked this place for my husband and I to stay while I attended a workshop nearby at the Akasha retreat center. The pictures don’t do this place justice. It’s very spacious and private. Alexandra has provided everything travelers need and then some. Check in/out was a breeze and we were greeted with a bottle of wine and some cookies. Thanks for a great stay and we hope to be back soon.

    Virginia2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is beautiful and very clean. There were nice touches upon arrival that made the trip that much sweeter. The views on the drive there alone is worth the stay. Lots of things to do and places to explore around there area. I would highly recommend staying here!

    Emily2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • An idyllic spot close to great hiking. The space itself is bright, elegant, spacious, and clean, overlooking a small pond on the property (which we loved exploring). We particularly appreciated Alexandra's recommendations for things to do in the area, as well as the homemade cookies she left for us upon arrival!

    Abbey2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Great place with nice views! Hosts left anything we could have ever needed. Would recommend to anyone.

    Houston2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Alexandra’s cottage is very comfy and beautiful and clean. So glad we were able to stay here during our visit to Shenandoah. She has lots of booklets and pamphlets available for things to do in the area and we were greeted with wine and chocolate. Would definitely stay again.

    Paris2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • I booked a very last minute stay with Alexandra and she could not have been a more hospitable and responsible host. The directions were very clear, and her cottage was very spacious but still felt cozy. I've recommended this place to my friends and I have nothing but nice things to say!

    Sharon2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic stay! The room was great and we enjoyed the grounds as well as a nearby hike at Shenandoah. We are already looking forward to a trip back!

    Mary Anne2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • When we first entered the Zen suite, it took our breath away. The lighting, the soft music, and the bed created a peaceful atmosphere. Although we didn’t explore much of the campus outside of the bedroom, we found that we still had everything we needed: a bedroom, a bathroom, and a kitchenette. The rest of the barn is just as well thought out but chilly during the night. It seems perfect for a retreat. We enjoyed the bathtub both nights we were there, and the bed was clean and comfortable. There were a few bugs throughout our stay but nothing harmful. I’ve stayed at a treehouse before and had the same issue, so I think it’s to be expected when you’re immersed in nature. We just took them back outside! Hopefully we can come back to White Lotus again and take a class and explore the sauna. If we hadn’t planned so many things to do on our trip here, like hiking, axe throwing, and horseback riding, I’m sure we still would have had plenty to do staying near the Airbnb! My questions were answered quickly, and the kitchenette had everything we needed (plates, silverware, fridge, microwave, oatmeal, tea, coffee) minus the stove, which was downstairs in the common area. The place is beautiful (I really love all the wood), and if you enjoy the peace that nature brings along with some thoughtful amenities, I would highly recommend this place.

  • Perfect getaway with an even more perfect location! We visited Shenandoah with ease throughout our stay. Like other reviewers said, you do lose cell service about 15 out from the house so just be prepared for that. Will stay again!

    Kelsey2020-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay at the farm house with plenty of room to run around outside and sit on the porch swing. The rooms have been nicely decorated. It’s an easy drive to Shenandoah and many breweries/wineries

    Malissa2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Paul and Marilee's place is so, so, so lovely. You feel like you have your own slice of mountain! It's close to vineyards and I found a local grocery store maybe 8 minutes away. There is no cell phone service so be sure to turn on WIFI calling or Skype. Paul and Marilee were so attentive and even let me know about the cell service before I arrived. I will be staying here again!

    Tanisha2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our stay - the home is even more beautiful than the photos. The bedrooms were especially lovely. We hope to be back again as The Farmhouse is so close to fun hikes in Shenandoah.

    Megan2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Charming farmhouse with beautiful views (especially from upstairs bedrooms and sitting area) and spacious outside area. Great for taking walks (especially if you bring a pup) or just hanging out. Loved the winery within walking distance but it was closed for the season at the time of our visit. However, I did pick up a bottle of their tasty wine at the Noon Whistle Pottery. We experienced minor inconveniences such as stink bugs/lady bugs and a brief internet outage. Paul was quick to respond and keep us updated on the internet issue. No Verizon cell service - have to connect via wi-fi. We enjoyed a comfortable and relaxing stay!

    Ruth2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is a wonderful, peaceful place for our relaxing weekend near Shenandoah! Would definitely stay again. We enjoyed watching movies on the comfortable sofa, making meals in the spacious kitchen (and warming up next to the gas fireplace), and taking in the beautiful view.

Chestnut Hills Cottage is a Romantic Retreat for two! Our mountain retreat is the perfect escape from city life. Located on 40 private acres just a few miles from the Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive. This charming cabin has been lovingly restored by owners Alun and Norma Ward. You'll find peace and quiet and all the conveniences of modern life, including quality linens, wifi and a hot tub under the stars. We invite you to experience the charm of our Blue Ridge Mountain Cottage!
This cottage is located near the site of an old mountain homestead. It was located here due to the ever flowing spring located in the valley below. The subsistence mountain farm which was located here fell into ruins in the late 1800s. Many of the old stone walls and the ruins of a small barn are located just below the cottage. For many years a rough, smaller cottage was on this site. In the late 1990s Alun and Norma, owners of the adjacent property, were able to acquire this beautiful, mostly wooded valley and begin plans for Chestnut Hills Cottage. The original cottage was renovated and enlarged, decks built, and hot tub installed. Alun did most of the work on the cottage himself, along with help from family and summer students. While the cottage is surrounded by two acres of lawn, the balance of the property is mature forest with Blue Run, a mountain stream below in the valley. We are located in the center of Virginia Wine Country and 4 miles from the eastern boundary of Shenandoah National Park.
Our cottage is located on the last property on a one mile long private road. This 40 acre property provides a completely private setting for Chestnut Hills Cottage. The views to the east are of the Barboursville mountains, 25 miles away. Views to the west are of Powell Mountains and the valley which leads down to our spring and creek. While we live on the adjacent property, about 1/4 mile away, we rarely see our guests, but we are close by if needed.
  • We absolutely loved our stay! The place was very clean and cozy! The hot tub and robes were a great addition to our weekend getaway. Will definitely come back next year!

    Alex2019-11-28T00:00:00Z
  • This is a wonderful rental! Perfect for a relaxing getaway. Cabin was very clean, nicely furnished, and very comfortable. Felt very quiet & secluded - down a gravel road, but within easy driving distance to hiking, wineries, restaurants, etc. The hosts provide a lot of helpful info on area attractions. We hope to come back and stay again!

  • Alan and his family were great!

    Kristen2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Alan's place was the perfect base for exploring Shenandoah, particularly for hikes like Old Rag and White Oak Canyon that start outside Skyline Drive. The house was clean, spacious and secluded, and the hot tub was the ideal way to soothe our aching muscles after a long day hiking. Would definitely recommend.

    Laura2019-09-02T00:00:00Z

  • We had a wonderful time staying at the High Top Cabin! It is such a cute and homey space that has everything you need for a week in the mountains! The location is excellent, less than 10 minutes to enter Shenandoah National Park and the cabin has a great view of the mountains. The best feature is the hot tub - it’s a great way to relax after long days hiking!

    Kristin2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • Carmen’s place was great - especially for those who want to explore Shenandoah. It’s a very good location for it! The house was clean and comfortable and worked well for us. Carmen was very friendly and welcoming!

  • A quaint, clean, well put together space just outside the Swift Run Gap entrance to Shenandoah. This tiny home is well appointed, and the hot-tub with mountain view is sure to delight.

Looking to social distance for a while in the fresh air and enjoy the mountain views? Stay in a 1-bedroom lofted Conestoga cabin overlooking the Blue Ridge mountains and the Roach River. Sit on the deck to enjoy the nature around you, hike the 28+ acres, prepare meals in the tiny but mighty kitchen, or stay in and enjoy the TV and DVDs. Head up to Shenandoah National Park for a hike with your packed picnic and enjoy nature. Make sure to bring food as groceries are within 3-10 miles away.
We clean everything in between stays before new guests arrive - all linens are laundered (sheets, towels, bedspreads, blankets, covers), all surfaces are disinfected with commercial grade cleaner, and all dishes are sanitized to prevent the spread of viruses. The cabin sites on the property of Touchstone Manor (previously known as the William Cox Inn). The history of he property starts circa 1770 when William Cox and his family constructed the first house on the property and was a part of the original land owned by Samuel Estes (which was the original formation of Orange County in the 1700s before becoming a part of Greene County). There are 28+ acres to explore including a hike through the woods and along the river. The rustic cabin is cozy with a small bedroom and bathroom as well as a kitchen equipped with a stove, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and toaster. The loft is set up for reading and there is a flat-screen TV and DVD player in the bedroom. We have games and movies in the cabin for entertainment when you are not adventuring outside.
Venture out to explore Shenandoah National Park (15 miles away), Blue Ridge School (6 miles), 6 different wineries within 10 miles or less, or go to downtown Charlottesville (19 miles). There are many things to explore in the area including historic sites (Montpelier, Monticello), wineries (Glass House, Stone Mountain, Kilaurwen, Moss Vineyards, Chisolm Vineyards), breweries (Bald Top, Octonia Stone), and (Shenandoah National Park, Rivanna, Chris Greene, and Preddy Creek). Our property is located close enough to do fun day trips but still far enough away from the city bustle for quiet and relaxation to revitalize your soul. We are only 11 miles from CHO airport, 15 miles from the Swift Run entrance of Shenandoah National Park, and 20 miles from downtown Charlottesville.
  • Great little cabin in a beautiful location. The hosts were extremely helpful and responsive, and checking in was a breeze.

    Zachary2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • Cabin was exactly as expected, very nice and scenic view.

    Louis2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I had a wonderful weekend stay in this tiny cozy cabin! The kitchen is well stocked, the woodstove and heaters kept us toasty warm and everything is compact and well thought out. The best part is that the cabin is in a quiet corner of the property surrounded by a meadow with a little river just down the hill and the stars at night were fantastic. Jen Marie was a great host and gave us personal suggestions for favorite local hiking spots and breweries. We would definitely recommend this place!

    Morgan2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous, Cozy, Clean, Up-To-Date Appliances and Fixtures and Bathroom and Bed and TV (like you want one anyway LoL) ... Nice porch and Raised Deck Patio ... very nice place! The hosts are wonderful, and checkin is just a code on the front door. The place was all mine. I heard something I haven't heard in a very long time: silence 🙏🧘‍♂️💚

  • This is the place. Great food close by? Check! Awesome hosts who have thought of everything? Check! Breath taking views? Check! Comfortable, relaxing, cozy cabin? Check!

    Tom2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • This is a fantastic, picturesque farm at the base the mountain. It has amazing views, ponds, chickens, hiking trails and beautifully manicured grounds. The cabins are cozy and clean. I could not have asked for better hosts than Tom and Denise. They were very attentive to every need. If you have to be Olin the Rockingham Co area and need a place, choosing this cabin (or any of their others) will be one of your better decisions.

    Tom2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Slice of heaven! Never will you find a nicer host, a more comfortable cabin or a more picturesque location. The cabin was just as it was described, sparkling clean and very cozy. The check in/out process is personal and easy and great food within walking distance or a 5 min drive (Hanks and Thunderbird Diner). If visiting the Rockingham county area, consider Shenandoah Farms for your stay. It will prove you be one of your better decisions.

We also fell asleep to the sound of rain and the bed was so comfortable. The place was also very clean and cute. Great for a couple who just wants some alone time for a while. Thank you David!

This place is worth every penny and then some. Can't wait to come back again. Nothing better then going to sleep with the sound of the river coming through the window.

  • This cabin finds the balance between nature, tranquility, and location being so close to many wonderful wineries. The cabin was incredibly clean — which we were greatly appreciative of given the global pandemic. The wood stove, porch, and babbling brook were among our favorites in this hidden gem. We look forward to returning in the future!

They had some issues with the showerhead prior to when we arrived, but communicated with us and did everything necessary to fix it and make our stay completely enjoyable. Bagels and small snacks were left for us to eat and enjoy, as well as a bottle of sparkling cider! Super thoughtful and kind hosts, would stay again!!

Our home is in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley. Enjoy stunning views of Massanutten Mountain and the Blue Ridge Mountains from our neighborhood, or sit in our backyard and enjoy our gardens. We are minutes away from I-81, JMU, EMU, Historic Downtown Harrisonburg, Massanutten Four Season Resort, the Swift Run Gap Entrance to Shenandoah National Park, and many other destinations! Come to our cozy place to relax and get away while visiting or passing through the Shenandoah Valley.
Your room, (the Art Gallery, as we call it) is on the second floor and has a very comfortable queen size bed with many pillows, lots of natural light and a private bathroom with shower down the hallway. Fresh linens and towels are always available. You will notice that your room has a collection of some of our favorite art on the walls. The pieces are all originals that have special significance to our family. The combination of pictures and calm color palette creates a warm and peaceful atmosphere for our guests.
Our neighborhood is quaint and has lovely views of the surrounding mountains. There are several places we enjoy walking to and will happily share them if you are interested. We are within walking distance of a small art gallery and antique store, as well as a few restaurants.
  • Jantena’s room was perfect for a couple like us. The room with the private bathroom gives you privacy and easy check-in. The room is artistic and the bed is super comfortable. Jantena attends to details such as coffee, water, etc., which was very convenient. Overall it was truly an amazing stay experience. Her place is minutes away from some really nice Asian dining places, which was a plus. Thank you, Jantena!

    Tahiya2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at Jantena’s place for 2 night weekend trip. It’s conveniently located close to the Massanutten resort where I went snow tubing as well as the Shenandoah National Park and Harrisonburg. Her place was sparkling clean and super adorable! The bed was SO comfortable to sleep in. Jantena provided lots of towels for the bathroom as well as qtips, cotton balls, toothpaste, and a hairdryer in the event you forget your own. Not a lot of time was spent in her place for my trip but it was really nice to come back to after a full day of activities. I’d definitely stay here again. :)

    Elizabeth2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Jantena’s place was cozy, clean, and very relaxing. We enjoyed our stay.

    Vivian2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • So many thoughtful touches. It was a really cozy and comfortable stay.

    Gabriel2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • True to it's description, Jantena has a cozy bedroom that is private from the rest of the house. We chose her place so we could enjoy a spot close to Massanutten for skiing and a short drive to any restaurants. It was quaint and more than comfortable! Nice touches included a bath robe and water, as well as a coffee machine. There's also a microwave and minifridge available to you. There is no TV, but we packed a small screen to enjoy some shows after being out on the mountain all day. In addition, Jantena was kind enough to let us use the dryer to dry some of our ski gear. She is a very kind host and we highly recommend staying here!

  • Cathi’s place was perfect! It was a home away from home for the weekend. There is plenty of space that is for just the guests. Cathi was extremely thoughtful and had everything you could possibly need for a weekend getaway. Her local suggestions were great for places to visit while we were in town. I would highly recommend!

    Benji2019-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • Cathi’s place was exactly as advertised. My husband and I were visiting VA to hike the trails at Shenandoah NP, her place is less than an our drive from the nearest entrance to the park. Although there is space for more than one tenant upstairs, my husband and I had complete privacy and comfort as if we were the only ones there. Also, looking out at her cute little farm in her backyard provided a sweet touch to our stay. The goats sunbathing on top of the picnic table in the morning was my favorite! I would highly recommend Cathi’s place to anyone staying in the area.

You will love our lower-level private entry suite located within the Massanutten Resort in stunning Shenandoah Valley. We are 2-mins drive to the year-round Waterpark; 3-8 mins to the mountain's fun, seasonal activities (horseback riding, slopes, golf, zip line, go-karts, etc.); 15 mins to the Swift Run Gap entry into Shenandoah National Park; 18-20 mins to JMU; & 5-60+ mins to restaurants, wineries, antique malls, caves, hiking, biking, history sites, museums, shopping, country drives...!
COVID-19 PANDEMIC: Currently, we are still willing to host guests needing to travel at their own risks. We clean before and after your stay with antiseptic, masks, and gloves but those preventatives are not a guarantee of an absence of virus. Our lower-level, self-sufficient guest suite, is your home base that includes: - petite, well-supplied, full kitchen with dinner- and flat-ware (plus Keurig coffee and set-ups, cocoa, tea, hotpot, microwave, compact range with glass stovetop, refrigerator/freezer, mini dishwasher, washer-dryer-in-one). You are welcome to use anything you find such as simple breakfast items (oatmeal packets, fruit cups, applesauce, etc.; they may be beyond their "best by" date but are edible). - "Pine Cone" Queen bedroom, with attached full bathroom (you only share this IF you have additional friend/s or family). There is a small twin sleeper sofa in this room but you do lose all-around space when it is unfolded. - common area "George Washington Room" (your retreat is on one boundary of the George Washington National Forest) which is your living/add'l sleeping space. The Queen mahogany Murphy wall bed is very cool to use but you do lose all-around space when it is down. - Xfinity WiFi, and two SmarTVs. We have DirecTV and sometimes have interruptions during storms thus tell you *not* to count on it, just in case; if there's electrical power, you can always watch what's been pre-recorded, and use the SmarTV features if wifi is working -- and we have a large selection of DVDs. ;-) - use of the outside lower deck (from which you *will* hear traffic from the road below when you are outside; most don't even notice it), currently set with a small table and umbrella, and four chairs, and a double swing. Leafless late Autumn into early Spring, you will have a deck view to the eastern horizon of "the Blue Ridge" (and a bit of that view from your inside living room window).
Our hillside home is at the bottom of a cul-de-sac, in a Massanutten Resort residential neighborhood hugging the bottom of the mountain but *outside* the Resort's main gate. Just two minutes from/to Route 33, and 2-15 minutes from everything that the Resort has to offer. The house is in a hilly, lots-of-leafy-trees, more-suburban-than-rural, neighborhood. - Your suite sits "above" Resort Drive, not visible when there are leaves on the forest trees, but you *will* hear road traffic from your outside deck. - We are also within an hour of everything that the Shenandoah Valley offers, including just 15 minutes to the entrance of the Shenandoah National Park's Swift Run Gap and the Skyline Drive (MP65). - Our neighborhood is a mix of full- and part-time residents, and many weekly and weekend rentals. Currently, the home on our east side is a short-term rental; the home on the west is a new neighbor with a dog. - During the winter season, when there is no foliage, our home overlooks Resort Drive and the entrance and "big blue sign" to the Massanutten Waterpark below (a 2-minute drive through the neighborhood); from your deck, you can see the Blue Ridge due east. During spring and summer, the lush forest foliage hides nearly everything, and you see only a view of the forest. - We are a 7-minute drive to small-town Elkton, VA, and a 15-minutes drive to Harrisonburg, VA. James Madison University (JMU) is 15-25 minutes away (depending on your destination in the broad campus). We are 40-55 mins from: Charlottesville, including Thomas Jefferson's Monticello; Orange, VA and James Madison's Montpelier; Staunton, VA and the Woodrow Wilson Home. - We have several excellent eateries within 8 minutes, and farther afield in Harrisonburg and environs. Please check out our Guidebook for so many more dining, museum, experiences ideas..."Places & Experiences We Love"!
  • Missy was an outstanding host! She was kind, helpful, and always quick to respond to any questions we had! We had a terrific time, and we highly recommend this stay to anyone looking for a private getaway in the mountains.

    Eric2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • This is an amazing value. Large bedroom and even larger living area. We only cooked in one night of three and the kitchen worked well for breakfast and that meal. Lots of privacy and outdoor lounging areas.

    Rich2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Missy and Dave’s place was wonderful and so are they! Beautiful place to stay, great places to eat, beautiful hikes and so much more! They are super friendly and caring. The place is clean and has everything you’ll need. Had a great weekend and surely will stay again!

  • Great place to stay! Cozy, and very clean! All of the extra items we needed were there and everything labeled! Would stay here again and again!!!

    Jennifer2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • This was a great place to stay. Missy included so many things - she's thought of everything you might need! Super clean, super comfy, I would definitely book with Missy again!

    Jill2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Missy is a hospitality all-star, you can tell that hosting guests in her space is her passion. Any little thing you can ever think of using for your stay is provided in the space. We usually come to Massanutten for a week in the winter and this year had to squeeze in a short trip on a budget and we found Missy's place. To our surprise it was nicer than more expensive places we stay! Using her guidebook and recommendations I feel like we got an entirely new view on the area. The furnishings and amenities are higher end and more substantial than they appear in the photos, the beds are super comfortable and we had an amazing time. Traveling with an 8 month old we appreciated the baby monitor and pack n play, we hope to come back next year!

Secluded setting for a relaxed experience surrounded by woods, birds, bunnies & nature/rural sounds.
  • The house was amazing! Exactly the right mix of seclusion and scenery, and right near Shenandoah. The large windows gave beautiful views in the morning to wake up to and the kitchen was fully stocked with cookware, silverware, and plates which was very nice. David’s extensive local tips were also very helpful! Would definitely stay again and highly recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway in a beautiful location!

    Ryan2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • If you're looking for a true off-the-grid mountain experience, this is it! The views were amazing, and the cabin is warm and inviting. Leave your laptop/tablet at home, and bring games, books and plenty of firewood to make use of the wood burning stove!

    Sam2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great place. Very cute and amazing value for the price. This little cottage served as a great couples getaway in the mountains. We loved the big windows & Mountain View from bed! Suggested hikes in Shenandoah and pottery shop in town were spectacular!

    Darren2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at this quaint but comfortable cabin. If you have a car (I couldn’t imagine walking) and intend to do some exploring in Shenandoah it’s a great place to stay. The picture window and wood bringing stove were especially great. Not a fully secluded place, there’s another house visible just down the hill but certainly has everything you’d need and more...not to mention some of the most thorough local tips I’ve ever received!

    Nick2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • Keith's place was wonderful, with all the amenities we needed. The cabin is secluded and surprisingly spacious.

    Alka2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • This is a wonderful place to stay and we wish we could have stayed longer. It is really clean and cosy, and the views of the forest from the giant windows are spectacular - you can also enjoy them from the bathtub, which, by the way, has jacuzzi-style bubble jets! Wow! The kitchen has all the equipment you could need for a short stay and the king-size bed is very comfy. The light in the morning is beautiful. The hosts were great communicators and left us to our own devices - perfect! Thank you!

  • Loved it!! It has everything you need for the stay. My kids enjoyed the loft and loved being surrounded by nature. Very cozy place. Even though there’s no service, as long as you get your directions before you leave the cottage because of great WiFi, you are good. Only the thing I wish it had was a hammock. I would definitely highly recommend this place to anyone! Thanks for a great stay :)

  • Magical rustic lodge surrounded by trees. Super comfortable beds, convenient little kitchen and friendly, helpful hosts. By car, the location is 20 minutes from the Switch Gap entrance to Shenandoah National Park. Had planned to bike Skyline Drive from there, but there was black ice from rain the night before, so I did a little section of the Appalachian trail hiking to the Hilltop summit. It was a very enjoyable hike (climbing about 1200 feet) and I totally recommend it!

  • I enjoyed my stay it was peaceful. Enjoyed the random dog running around who came to say hey. It was a great place to relax. If you are expecting a 5 star hotel feel, this isn’t for you. It is still clean and comfortable, but mainly it’s for relaxing.

    Jennifer2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome views and trails to explore. Near a bunch of great wineries and places to eat. Cool sauna and pool area to take advantage of 👌🏻😃

    Shaun2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • The tree house was a great and unique get away. Small and quaint, but stylish and great for a couples get away. Enjoyed meeting others nearby and would definitely go again. Had a wonderful time and the host was great

    Michael2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great location and the property felt like an adult playground. There were so many things to explore both around the property and in the common areas. Will definitely return in the future.

    Jazmina2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • This was my second stay in the treehouse at White Lotus. The sense of exploration the communal space provides is intoxicating. The woodstove-fired sauna located down a catwalk into the woods, complete with the cool dip pool, is a fantastic experience. Met cool people. Cooked a big meal in a fabulous shared kitchen space. Hosts were super communicative and helpful. Room was unique, clean, comfortable, and memorable. Already planning a return trip soon.

    Laura2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • I love how it’s a little (only 5 miles) off the beaten track. The treehouse is a great concept. The wood burning sauna and dipping pool is awesome! There is a great public kitchen to use and a number of outside gas grills to use.

    Edward2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • This quaint home on stilts is beautiful. As described, you will have your own room overlooking the grounds. Connected to everything you need, your bedroom (and bathroom) will have everything you need. We took advantage of the sauna, swing underneath the room, and a stroll along the skywalks. There are some quirky items (you can feel the home move a little, the shower is a bit finiky on temperature control). But these added to the experience. I mean, who can say they’ve showered in a treehouse? Communication was thorough, place was clean, all needs were met and then some. Would stay again.

  • David’s place is exactly as described. The suite we stayed in had everything we needed and the communal kitchen was right down the steps. There is not much to do in the surrounding areas but Shenandoah was not far. I recommend this place to anyone that wants a relaxing weekend away

  • What a perfect place to get away for the weekend! My boyfriend and I needed a quick reset and that's exactly what we got. It was nice to have the freedom to roam the property and the hosts were very happy to help if we had questions. The space is very clean with the exception of a few stains on the towels and the shower walls can use a scrub. Overall we had a great time and it was an awesome value! We can't wait for warmer weather so we can come back!

  • Always a great place to escape to after long days of hiking. I've stayed in both the barn and the castle and if you are looking for more quiet and relaxation, I highly recommend the castle. The barn can get a bit noisy. I loved having a kitchenette, big windows, and the room was easy to keep cozy warm even on snowy days.

  • I loved staying at the Green Barn. The retreat is very well-kept, has wooden furnishings, and made me feel at home. I wish I stayed longer to explore more of the area. David/Keith were very quick to respond and answered any questions I had. I loved the mini hot tub in my room, and used the meditation room in the evenings. Recommend this place to anyone looking for a self-care getaway. The quiet surroundings of nature are just what I needed! Thank you for providing a great stay :)
