Places to stay in Peak Forest

Places to stay in Peak Forest
Our lovely little cottage is about 200 years old. It's cosy and slap bang in the middle of some of the best scenery the UK has to offer. Excellent for walking, cycling or simply site seeing the beautiful Derbyshire Peak District National Park. Castleton is such a pretty little town with it's own castle, 7 watering holes (all dog friendly) fabulous restaurants and delightful cafes. We are situated between Bakewell and Buxton. PLEASE NOTE WE DO NOT CHARGE FOR CLEANING YOU ARE ON HOLIDAY!
Our cottage is typical of the area, however, we have renovated it to a very high standard. You will have all the mod cons required these days with the feeling of living in a historical building. My back ground is tourism so I know what you want when staying away from home. This is a cosy little place and from the outside looks quite small, but inside the rooms are moderate in size, perfect for up to four people, 2-3 dogs depending on their size. The sleeping arrangements are 1 double bedroom and the second bedroom is classed as a small double with a queen size bed.
Our village is unique for the area as we have so much to do within walking distance. Caves to explore, hundreds of walks and cycle routes, pony trekking, pot holing, paragliding, hand gliding, fell running or sight seeing. All the pubs in the village are dog friendly. We are in the shadow of Mam Tor in an area known as the Dark Peaks. Our valley is called Hope Valley and is a basin with undulating hills all around. It really is spectacular. The pubs serve excellent traditional British pub food and plenty of it, with real ales and Gin clubs. 1530 is a fantastic Mediterranean restaurant with a great wine list. There is currently free parking and public car parks around the village.
  • Beautiful cottage with a lovely, homely feel. Beautiful decor and features, with everything you could possibly need. Fantastic location in a great little village! We didn’t want to leave!

  • Marianne's cottage excels in every conceivable aspect. The cottage is very pleasant to be in, it is cosy, well furnished, with decent amenities. It is in a wonderful location - views of Mam Tor and the ridge just outside the windows, and on a quiet lane in Castleton, 5 minutes walk from the restaurants and pubs. Marianne herself was very communicative and able to answer any questions I had. Her cottage is the perfect base for walking/hiking around Hope Valley, or for exploring the villages of the valley. I would choose to stay here if and when we return to the Peak District. Brilliant stay.

  • We stayed in Marieanne's cottage for 4 nights and would have loved to stay longer! The location was great, Castleton is a lovely little town, and the cottage is within walking distance to everything you would want/need. The cottage itself is clean, super cosy and very nicely decorated, has so many unexpected extras full of hints and tips on the area, DVD's for rainy days/cosy nights in and tasty treats. We would absolutely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone

    Alex2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Marieanne’s cottage has the wow factor and is beautifully presented with superb attention to detail, with everything you need to feel at home. It is situated in a beautiful and quiet location, so you can really have some time to relax and within walking distance to everything you would want/need. My cousins and I fell in love with Marieanne’s beautiful home and 100% would stay again.

    James2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful location and a perfect property for our University reunion (8 adults and 8 kids) The location is close to some incredible walks (we went to the Goyt Valley) and being joined to the Devonshire pub was perfection for Friday and Saturday night! We all ate there on the Saturday night and we would highly recommend that. Thanks Fiona for being a great host. Arriving to supplies in the fridge and homemade brownies was a great touch. The description of the property is accurate and fair - we all had a brilliant weekend.

    Alan2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Fiona's place is really fantastic for a large group of people. The photographs dont do it justice and I would not hesitate to recommend. The location is also beautiful. Thanks so much!

    Victoria2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • Fiona was really helpful before the booking with really thoughtful touches such as brownies and Prosecco. Pub next door had good pub food with very good service, great place to stay

    Alan2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed here with a stag do group of 12, the property was clean and had plenty of bed to go around. The kitchen was well equipped and the complimentary brownies were much appreciated! The property is above/next door to a pub and the staff were very welcoming and helpful. Location was perfect, about 20 mins into Buxton - £15-20 in a taxi.

    Alexander2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Great space for a big group of friends! Fiona was great at a quick response for all our questions. There is so much kitchen equipment etc. to accommodate all. We had food at the pub next door and not only were they super helpful and great with a big group, the food was delicious! We visited mam tour one day, a short drive away! And went to Buxton another day which was a lovely town (We had food at buxton brewery which was also great and accommodated a big group well, but we had to preorder food) Recommend a visit at this Airbnb for a big group of friends.

    Alys2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • A very good location. Ideal for a very large family with plenty of room for everyone to be comfortable.

    Amanda2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed with a mixed group of 14 for a stag party with no problems, and had a great time over the weekend at Fiona's place. Plenty of parking, rooms and beds to choose from. Kitchen supplies were a nice touch, milk, butter, bread, and the brownies were amazing! All areas of the house were utilised, including the pub as people split into smaller groups doing their own thing during the evening. Modern TV and WiFi meant we could set up some music and games. The house is in a great location, as the team activities I had arranged were only a 20 min drive away and were also enjoyed by all. Finally short people can have a good laugh as the tall people 'mind their head' up the stairs by the entrance and navigate the house of doors! But very spacious overall. Thanks for accommodating us all.

Part of a former school, our home offers a cosy stay in a lively peak district village. We have stone windows, oak beams and a log burning stove in the spacious lounge. We are 20 minutes by car from Bakewell , Buxton and Castleton. A great walking area. Have a look at the visit peak district website for ideas about our area. We are only happy to take 7 guests at a time , no extra guests will be allowed as our insurance does not allow it.
We have 4 bedrooms, sleeping 6 or 7 adults. 1 King sized bed , 1 double , 1 small double bed and a single room. There are 4 steps up to the lounge. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking. Towels and cotton bedding provided. We have one bathroom , that has a shower, bath and toilet. We also have a separate toilet and sink , both of these are upstairs.
We love walking in the area. The nearby Monsal trail is great for cycling. We love the tea rooms , pub lunches and local markets. The village is friendly and has all you could need, including a local doctor , chemist, several shops and a great butcher. Please visit 'visit tideswell' website for further information about the area.
  • Lovely house and straightforward stay. Many thanks.

    Timothy2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • A very well equipped home in an excellent location. The house is warm, cosy and tastefully decorated. The beds were comfortable and the area quiet; just what was needed for a weekend of sewing and having some down time from our busy lives. We will return again as the property suited the 4 of us perfectly. We wish we had booked another day to finish off all our projects. Thanks for being a friendly and available host too.

She showed us everything we needed to know about the place (which is very nice and cosy) and then left us to it I can’t recommend this place highly enough , it has everything you need and is ideally placed in the village itself We found it ideal for our winter break and the solid fuel burner kept us really warm on the cold nights Thanks again maggie

  • What a great stay, as a group of 8 we had plenty of space. We enjoyed a solid 10 mile walk and rewarded ourselves with a pint or six of ale in the lovely old hall inn pub. Terry was helpful and informative host throughout the booking process, and even left us a cake which was a treat. We snarfed our way through it, that in addition to Brian’s batch of flapjacks and we were all wiped out! Would certainly stay again Chinley is delightful.

  • A great host- very communicative and helpful. The house was great and exactly what was specified. The house really nice and was exactly what we needed.

    Rhys2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is in an excellent location for exploring the high peaks and the village has many facilities to make the stay even more comfortable. The house was excellently presented and we had plenty of room to relax, even though we had a large party. An extra shower would have been useful but it did not adversely affect our stay. Would highly recommend.

Highly recommended!

    Liz2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • This is the second time we have stayed at Nina’s place and again she was an outstanding host. She could not have done more for us. Would absolutely recommend the location, house and Nina’s hospitality. Thank you!

  • A fantatic house perfect for a weekend or longer getaway. Close to beautiful walks rides and towns, great amenities within short walk and Nina was a warm, generous hugely helpful host. We highly recommend. Seven ladies on a biking weekend - we’ll be back for more hopefully in spring or summer so we can enjoy even more of the house garden and surrounding area. Huge thanks!

    Sarah2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely place to stay, there were seven of us there and had to stay in for most of the time because of storm Dennis ,but we all had a great time playing games and listening to music and there was plenty of space for us all,we also had a fantastic meal at one of the local pubs, Perfect spot for a cozy getaway

    Bruce2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Nina’s cottage is stunning the picture do not do it justice. The garden is beautiful. Everything in the cottage is very thoughtful. Lots of kitchen utensils for cooking and an Amazon Alexa which was very useful! The bedrooms are very modern. We stayed in January and the cottage was very warm and cosy but also spacious! Amazing stay. Nina is also very friendly and responds quickly. She lives right next door which is handy also but was very happy for us to have a little get together. Thanks again.

    Devi2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • A absolutely lovely space, very clean and everything you could want for a very comfortable stay.

    Emily2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • We adored this house. We were two families with toddlers and the house was equipped with everything you can imagine for the children. The nice touches were toys, books and stair gates! We wish we had stayed longer as it was a home from home. The current pictures don’t do the house justice, in real life it’s super cosy and stylish. We would 100% return if the opportunity came up to visit the area again. P.s the path leading up to the house is very bumpy with potholes which might make some drivers nervous especially if you don’t have a 4x4.

    Jade2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our time at this cottage. All you could think of for your stay available and lots you hadn't!! The pictures do not do it justice. Lovely to see the different types of animals that come into the garden. Food for them is already waiting provided by Nina. We would definitely stay again

Stay in this traditional 17th Century cottage, listen to the relaxing stream from your bedroom window before you enjoy all the jaw dropping scenery when you step out of the front door. Situated in the heart of the beautiful village of Castleton, right next to the stream and enjoying a superb location near the 6 local pubs and numerous cafes. We have one double room for you to enjoy, with en-suite shower room. You can walk out of the door and be on a footpath within minutes.
It's not every day you get to sleep in a 17th Century cottage, that is only accessed on foot (no cars - lorries - vans going past this property) This reasonably sized double room - with en-suite shower room - is big enough for a travel cot - if you want to bring one for your small children. You have complete and sole access to our traditional lounge, which has a wood burner. There is also a small utility area for you to have sole use of (which has a sink and microwave) We recommend that you check out the huge range local cafes for breakfast as we don't include this.
Do you love the outdoors, scenery, history, quaint shops and the odd real ale or gin - if yes Castleton is perfect for you. Castleton is well known for it's beautiful scenery, walks, mountain biking, caving and other outdoor adventures. It has several caverns which are open for the majority of the year. The famous Peak Cavern (2 minutes walk) has occasional evening events, including concerts, film showings and haunted visits for Halloween and Carols at Christmas (check their website for dates and details). Peveril Castle entrance is less than 5 minutes to walk to - enjoy the history If you fancy taking the car out then - we are close to Chatsworth House and Gardens, Haddon Hall and the towns of Buxton and Bakewell. https://www.visitpeakdistrict.com/inspiration/uniquedistrict...
  • I had a fantastic 5/5 stay with Nicola, who was an excellent host - nothing was too much trouble. The cottage was homely and spotlessly clean, with lots of lovely touches like fresh towels and bedding, fridge stocked with booze and milk, chocolate in the bedroom, plenty of wood for the woodburner and Netflix on the TV in the bedroom! Fantastic location with the river on the doorstep, and minutes from an array of cafes and restaurants. Will definitely be coming again. Thanks Nicola!

    Shona2020-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had a really great time, the amenities on offer were over and above expected and meant that we felt at home during our stay

    Jacob2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent place to stay and enjoy the Peaks

    Jay 2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • The stay at Nicola's was beyond 5 star. Prior to arriving she communicated quickly re any questions and prior to our arrival she kindly offered her accommodation earlier than the 4pm check in date which helped us immensely. The accommodation was very quaint and homely plus only meters from the river. We fell in love with the place and only stayed the one night but we will absolutely stay again. There were many added touches from fresh bath towels, menus from all the restaurants in Castleton plus free drinks in the fridge for the evening. She included a guide of the accommodation with instructions and places to go too, which was very useful. Furthermore she offered to build the fire for us, which we set alight later in the evening which was a very romantic setting. Parking was not an issue as we parked in the tourist car park, which was £6 for 24 hours and has CCTV, which is very cheap compared to city prices. It was a 2 minute walk away from the accommodation. You could park nearby on the roads but you may be better off just parking in the main car park. Lastly she does provide a hob, therefore you can cook if you would like, which may help if you would like to stay in rather than eat out. If you're looking to stay in Castleton or the surrounding areas then this is the place to stay, you won't regret it :D Thank you Nicola for your hospitality.

    James2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you for another fabulous stay, we absolutely love this little place feels like home from home, Nicola is such an amazing host nothing is too much trouble.... till next time.... huge thank you🙂 xx

Rambler Cottage was completely renovated in the summer 2019. We think it is about 200 years' old with lots of character. The cottage is situated in a conservation area of Bradwell in the rolling hills of Hope Valley, Peak District National Park. The village and surrounding areas are breathtaking. Castleton is a 30 minute walk away or 5 minute car drive where you will find the infamous Mam Tor. You won't fail to have a relaxing holiday here, unwind and recharge those batteries.
You are booking the whole cottage with a private garden front and back. You will have your own key to come and go as you please and unless you want to see me you won't be bothered your entire stay. There are two double bedrooms, 2nd is a double bed but classed as small double. There is a log burner in the lounge for cooler nights and the cottage has central heating. The kitchen is fully fitted with all the gadgets
There are two good pubs walking distance from the cottage. An excellent chippy, bakery, Post Office and Co Op convenience store. You are also walking distance from one of our favourite restaurants in the area The Samuel Fox. There are so many walks right from the front door. I’ve put an information pack in the cottage and there are lots of leaflets on places to go, see and do. There are also local maps for all those lovely walks.
  • What a treat this cottage is! Stylish, comfortable, every detail well thought out! Spotlessly clean! The location is perfect for exploring the High Peaks. We loved every minute of our stay! This really is an exceptional place to stay - we cannot wait to return to the area or any of Marieanne's creations.

    Donna2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is lovely and cosy. It’s a short walk to Castleton and perfect for exploring either by foot or driving around the area. Marieanne is a lovely host and the little touches of leaving dog towels for our lucky pups was much appreciated. We loved coming back in the evening and curling up in front of the log burner as well. Would definitely book again with her. Thank you

    Lisa2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • BOOK BOOK BOOK! From the moment we booked Ramblers Cottage for our minimoon, we knew we had picked the right place! Marieanne was quick to respond and gave us all the information we needed prior to arriving. The house itself is BEAUTIFUL and spotlessly clean! The finishing touches (I won't spoil the surprises) were thoughtful and sweet and really made us feel special. Even Ginny (our cockapoo) was catered for, with a few dog towels! We had an amazing time at Ramblers Cottage, its within easy reach of some great walks to explore the Peak District. Castleton is literally a 5 minute drive away as is Hope Valley. This is the best Air B&B we've stayed in and is truly a gem of a find! Thank you Marieanne for making our minimoon perfect!!

    Amye2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cottage in an amazing location. Marieanne was so understanding when we didn’t arrive until a day later as the weather was so awful! A really well equipped place to stay. Wonderful to have little touches like a local pork pie and bottle of wine to welcome us!

    Katy2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic cottage, very cosy and if you’re lucky enough to be able to book take advantage. The bed was the most comfortable bed ever.

    Lee2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic host and fantastic cottage! We will 100% be back in the future. The cottage is stylish, charming, cosy and lots of thoughtful touches there such as wine, chocs and treats for the dogs!

    Rose2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful cottage in a great location! Marieanne was a brilliant host, from outstanding communication, to top tips for our stay, and some lovely welcoming touches when we arrived. We would highly recommend staying at this lovely, cosy and beautifully decorated cottage.

    Katie2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely, cosy cottage based in the heart of the Peak District. The host was very helpful and left very thoughtful touches, making the cottage much more personal and welcoming. The decor is modern yet warming and the host has gone to a lot of effort to create such a cosy environment. The property was clean and very suitable for both humans and furry friends. If you are looking for somewhere which has everything and ticks all the right boxes, this is the place to stay. I would definitely come back again!

COVID19 - We are sadly closed until further notice. However as the property is on the same site as our own home, we are taking the opportunity to do some maintenance work and get it spick and span for when guests can return and enjoy it. We are also working hard on the garden that the cottage overlooks and everything is springing to life now the warmer weather is on its way and it looks beautiful. We are looking forward to welcoming you back when we are able to. Stay safe everyone.
The setting of this cosy small cottage is beautiful and you feel quite secluded, yet the village of Edale is 1 minute walk away. From here you can enjoy the countryside by walking or biking, short or longer routes. Goose Croft is a 50min drive from Manchester airport. You can use the train to get to Edale from the airport via Manchester Piccadilly station. From the living room or out on the patio you can enjoy watching the many birds that come and visit the bird feeders and gritstone bird bath. Regular visitors are Chaffinch, Gold Finch, Blue tit, Great tit, Coal tit and Great Spotted Woodpecker. The quality 'Clearview' wood burner is an added bonus for those cosy evenings. It will be laid ready for you on arrival and there are clear pictorial instructions on how to use it correctly. The first basket of logs is complimentary and after that there are nets of logs, kindling, firelighters and newspaper that are available to purchase at cost, we use an 'honesty box' for this. The kitchen is fully equipped and has an induction hob, electric cooker, microwave, dishwasher and a fridge with a small freezer compartment. Goose Croft has its own private parking space for one car and a safe bicycle storage shed for you to lock your bikes in, should you wish to bring them along to explore the area on two wheels. I do not charge a cleaning fee in addition to the nightly rate but request that guests leave the cottage neat and tidy and I will do the rest to ensure it is perfect for new visitors arriving.
The scenery around this area in the Peak National Park is stunning, I have lived here for 30 years and never want to move. The village has two pubs, The Nags Head and The Rambler Inn, two cafes, the Penny Pot and Cooper's Cafe, there is also a small shop.(various opening times depending on the season). The Moorland Centre is half a mile down the road and has lots of useful information about the area. In Goose Croft there is a comprehensive guest information folder, a basket full of tourist attractions etc. I have also put together A4 laminated maps showing local walks straight from the door, for you to take out and use. Castleton is just 7 miles by car and you can also walk to the village over the Mam Tor/ Losehill Ridge via the old 'coffin route'. Castleton has an assortment of gift shops selling the famous Blue John stone, four different caves to visit, a good selection of cafes and six pubs! Buxton is also worth a day visit, as is the market town of Bakewell (if only to go and buy a Bakewell pudding, not tart!) and the well known Chatsworth with its beautiful house and fabulous gardens. Eyam the 'plague village' is a really interesting day out, there is also a museum (telling the story of the plague), Eyam Hall and its Craft Centre. You can also visit The Riley Graves, the tragic burial ground of a Peak District plague family. The gritstone edges and moorland of the Dark Peak and the beautiful valleys of the White Peak provide two contrasting areas to go walking or cycling. The Hope Valley train line (Edale station 10min walk from Goose Croft) gives you the option to explore the area without a car. Many of our guests have taken the train to villages along the line and then walked back to the cottage. Or use the train to visit Manchester or Sheffield for a day.
  • Goosecroft cottage in Edale in the peak District is a lovely cosy retreat perfect in every way with lovely walks and hillside climbs , waterfalls, and caves to explore or just relaxing in front of the log burner after a pub lunch.

  • Had a wonderful stay at Goose Croft. Would highly recommend. Great location, warm, cosy and clean.

    Jenny2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Just spent a lovely few days at Goose Croft. The cottage is warm, cosy, peaceful and very well equipped, Jill has thought of everything guests would need. There are numerous garden birds to watch from the french windows as well as fabulous views of the surrounding hills from the bedroom windows. There are two nice pubs within a very short walk and the Pennine Way is very close by. A wonderful place to shut the world out and simply relax. Very highly recommended!

    Karen2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing cottage tucked away in the village of Edale. A stones throw away from the beautiful hills, the train station and a welcoming pub. Jill's cottage is cosy, clean and full of everything you could possibly need for your stay. Thank you!

    Miss2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • A hearty recommendation for this fabulous cottage. Every single box was ticked for me, great location, easy check in, fantastic communication, extremely well appointed and wonderfully clean space, comfy bed, lovely fire, birds in the garden, quiet, private, yards from the pub and one minute to completely majestic countryside in every direction. I couldn’t praise this cottage and Jill’s work here highly enough. Helpful notes, handy maps, snuggly blankets and homemade scones were just the cherry on the top.

    Zoe2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • So enjoyed our stay at Goose Croft. Such a picturesque cosy cottage with lots of thoughtful touches throughout. Just the perfect base for a few days exploring the Peak District, with incredible walks literally right on the doorstep. Highlight was reading in the evening with the wood burner going after a full day of walking the hills, bliss! Thank you for a great stay Jill, we’d love to come back!

    James2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Goose Croft is a lovely cosy cottage in a great location. Perfect for walks and pubs. Jill left lots of helpful notes to help us settle in and some great scones and jam! We hope to visit again one day. Bill and Yaz

  • This place is an absolute gem. A perfect cottage in a beautiful village. Walks galore (Jill left some great suggestions on handily laminated cards) and staggering distance from the local pub. Lovely welcoming touches - from homemade scones on arrival to a torch and blankets for outside use. Great to stay in a private hideaway while knowing Jill was nearby should anything be needed. I hope to return.

  • Delightful! By far the best Air BnB experience I've ever had. If you're looking for a rural getaway, this is the place for you. The location is a short drive from all the major points of interest and the cottage itself is cosy, homely & so inviting. The kitchen is very well stocked & there was even a bottle of bubbly welcoming me to the cottage! The rooms are spotless & real attention to detail has been paid. There are lots of thoughtful additions, such as a basket of board games & the welcome pack is comprehensive. Cathy offered me tips on where to walk and sent me addresses of tea rooms . I absolutely loved my stay & was sad to leave. I'll definitely be back! Thank you, Cathy and family 😊

Perfect for keen hikers being close to Kinder Scout, Mam Tor & Cave Dale. The cottage is full of character with a lovely, warm, relaxing and homely feel to it. Just what you want to come back to after a long walk! We arrived on Valentine’s Day and had roses in every room & a welcome tray which was a really nice touch, thank you Ros & Paddy. It is also well provided for with eateries and pubs inlcuding The Horse and Jockey, The Star Inn, The George and the Merchant's Yard restaurant. • I had a lovely stay in the Little Barn. It was so cosy and peaceful. It had all the amenities and equipment you would need for a quiet getaway. Suzie was very helpful with local suggestions and the place was very clean too. Would recommend for anyone 😊

  • Amazing space, kitchen larger than expected, full equipped. Bunk beds comfy, just remember to bring a blanket/sheets or sleeping bag! Lovely location, Andrew and Suzy are fantastic and will definitely be staying again.

    Dani2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Little Barn is a lovely place to stay and really great value for what it offers! The hosts were very welcoming, helpful, and kind. The kitchen is very well equipped, and the bathroom (plus a second extra toilet) was sparkling clean and the shower is very spacious! The entire space was very well heated even when we were visiting in winter. The location is lovely, with some views just as you walk out of the driveway. And it's in the middle of the Peak District so easy to explore anywhere from here. Just remember to bring bedsheets, duvet/sleeping bag, and towels! The bunks in the bedroom took me back to my school camp days, very quaint! The bedroom is spacious and can easily fit the luggage of six people (there are six beds total).

The barn was cute and clean, easy to find (its even on our OS map) , quiet and comfortable. Top tips: don't forget towels ( oops!) And if you're going to hang out in the kitchen at night those of us with slippers were happiest on the beautiful flag stone floors:)

  • Lovely comfortable cottage in a good location in Bradwell, with a nice log burner which was cosy in the evenings. The pub next door is very handy and there are some great walks nearby. We enjoyed walking to Castleton and Hope which you can get to from the door. Lucky enough to have good weather too!

  • Ivan’s house was a lovely place to stay. It was perfectly clean, the kitchen was well equipped, and nearby to Mam Tor which was an enjoyable walk!

  • My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our stay! This cottage made our holiday in the Peak District extra special, with the cosy evenings with our feet up by the fire after some beautiful walks. Well kept cottage and in a great location to explore! Highly recommend walks up Mam Tor and in the Caverns. Very responsive, understanding host. Thanks Ivan 👍🏼 ⭐️

  • The house is lovely and clean, right on the doorstep of some amazing walks. Very comfortable, and no complaints whatsoever.

    Tom2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here for a week to make the most of the local walks. The cottage is perfectly situated only a few miles from some of the main hikes of the peaks such as Kinder Scout and Back Tor. The cottage is a beautiful home with all the amenities you need. We enjoyed many evenings in front of the log burner after long walks. Check in was very easy and we had lots of communication prior. Parking was available at the front of the property and using the pub car park. Staff were very friendly a the pub down the road. It had a lovely atmosphere there also. We couldn’t recommend the cottage enough. It’s situated near the main roads for easy access to the whole area but also far enough away you can enjoy the quite of the countryside. The village has a lovely bakery, co-op, post office and a few nice pubs. You can pick up fire wood from the local garden centre. Top highlights of the area were hikes up Back Tor, Kinder Scout, Black hill. A drive to Arthur’s way and the caverns. Days out in little villages such as Bakewell. 30-40 minutes away from Stockport with lots of railway links near by. Would highly recommend this cottage.

  • Owen’s place is exactly as described - simple, cosy and very straightforward (heating, hot water, TV, check in and out etc). Owen was really quick to respond to text messages during the stay, as well as emails in advance of our arrival. The location is great for walking in the Edale area and it’s easy to access lots of other places due to the A623 being such a quick road.

  • Our stay at Bowling Green loft was excellent. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and very well equipped. Owen and Zoe were very good hosts and their local knowledge was very useful when we needed advice. This was our first time using Air B&B and it most definitely won’t be our last. Sandra and Karl

  • Very nice property in a handy location for walking and visiting in the Peak District. Perfect for a stay of a few days with a really well-equipped kitchen and lovely views across the fields. The bath is very cosy but does have a low ceiling so might not suit all. Owen was very helpful with communications and check-in was very easy.

  • We had a great stay at The Drey. Communication with Helen was great, the accommodation was very clean, well equipped and has great views of the surrounding area. We loved the little touches such as fresh eggs, scones and milk upon arrival. We look forward to returning one day.

  • Helen's place was lovely, very well-kept, peaceful and perfect for a country getaway. Her and her husband are lovely and make a great breakfast.

    Joseph2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Very much a hidden treasure within the Peak District. The Drey was spotlessly clean and Helen ensured that food essentials and other treats were there when we arrived. We stayed for 3 nights and would not hesitate staying again - nice peaceful location, yet within easy travelling distance of beautiful walks in the area. Thoroughly recommended

  • The Drey is an amazing place to stay with a stunning view. Extremely clean and tidy and very cosy. It's a home away from home and we will be returning very soon. Definitely would reccomend!!

    Tanbir2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • Helen was there to greet us, shown us around and explained a few things, including how to get hold of her if we needed anything and left us to it. The rooms are very clean and warm but if you get chilly then there are heaters. A comfortable bed gave us a good night sleep. A good kitchen and spacious bathroom complete the inside. The view can be enjoyed from the veranda and we took a walk to pub. A great place to stay for peace and quiet.

  • Kate and Ben are fabulous hosts. The cottage has all the things you need, topped off by the amazing location with incredible views.

    Sophie2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cottage located in a stunning setting. It was clean, stylishly decorated, convenient for plenty of hikes and activities, yet happily peaceful and secluded. Hosts are responsive and helpful.

    David2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding location, space, host. Perfect for walking in the High Peak but also with sufficient space and comfort to see out any wetter or colder days with all sorts of amenities - games, smart TV, books etc. Kate made sure we had everything we needed and couldn’t have been more helpful. Will return in a heartbeat

    Oli2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Kate & Ben’s cottage is absolutely amazing - we can’t recommend it highly enough. The cottage is high spec with everything you need for a mini break. It’s super warm and cozy (with the best beds & bedding we’ve ever had in an air bnb!). The location is in the middle of a picturesque valley with a multitude of walks - including Mam Tor and Kinder Scout / Jacob’s ladder - right from the front door. We stayed over Christmas and Kate & Ben had put up a lovely tree and decorations, as well as leaving a present on the children’s beds (which they loved). Kate & Ben are great hosts - attentive to their guests’ comfort while still giving guests lots of space. We would definitely stay here again!

    Javier2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful location, very cosy and welcoming!

    Martin2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Smith Cottage is even more lovely than it looks from the photos – a calm and cosy home to retire to at the end of a chilly day out walking. The sofa and bed are super comfortable so watch out you might never leave! If you do make it outside the location is excellent for exploring with plenty within easy reach. Rowlands Farm was easy to get to but felt secluded and the huge window makes the most of that amazing view of the Kinder plateau. The welcome from Kate and Ben was excellent – a pack with everything you needed to know about the cottage and offers of assistance if needed which made me feel settled straight away. There was even milk in the fridge and a locally made tea loaf. What more can a girl ask for!

Everywhere was very clean and the apartment was lovely and warm after a cold walk up Shining Tor. Nick and Rachel were really responsive to any queries and nothing seemed to much hassle. Checking in and out was simple and we loved the massive comfy bed. We will definitely return soon. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your beautiful apartment.

Do you want to explore the Peak District National Park from the comfort of a cosy cottage with friendly hosts? Then come and stay with us. You will have your own full size comfy double bed in a small bright room and we will be here to greet you with a smile.
We would love it if you came to stay with us in our cute stone terraced cottage, situated in a chocolate box village in the Hope Valley. The bedroom is small, we have to admit, but it has everything you need. The full sized double bed can be folded to make a sofa for extra space. We like to make sure our guests can make themselves a hot drink in the room, we supply a coffee maker and hot water for fruit teas. The shower room is modern and bright with underfloor heating to keep you warm whatever the weather and the shower is nice and big. You will be sharing these facilities with us, but we always ensure our guests take priority. You can enjoy the fantastic views of Bradwell edge from the sun lounge. We use the ground floor space for us, so there are no cooking facilities or living area available for you to use. However there are four pubs in the village, a bakery, chip shop and Co-op store. Not forgetting the famous Bradwell ice-cream shop. Our property is a pet free home.
Hope Valley is one of the best-loved parts of the Peak District National Park, offering some of the best views and most picturesque villages in the country. This unique part of Derbyshire is home to classic Peak District walks such as Winnats Pass, Mam Tor and the Great Ridge is arguably the most photographed area of the whole National Park! Our home is close to some of the most famous attractions in the Peak DIstrict. You can stay here and enjoy a day out visiting Ladybower reservoir, Stanage edge, Derwent Valley, Speedwell cavern, Peveril Castle, Chatsworth house and so much more.
  • As described, an absolutely perfect base for exploring the Peaks! The location is fantastic if you’re looking to head out into the hills, and just have a comfortable bed to rest in before going back out the following day. Ruth and Jason are super friendly, and the room and bathroom is immaculately clean. As a comfortable, convenient and cosy overnight stopover for one or two people, can’t imagine there’s anything better value going!

  • Gorgeous little cottage . Very quiet . The bedroom is very small but fine if you just need somewhere to sleep and don’t need to spend much time indoors . Although we were fine just sitting on the bed and reading when we had time to kill . The sofa bed is very comfy and the room nicely decorated . The hosts were very helpful and welcoming and we made use of the local bus service . Stunning scenery and great pubs locally .

It’s a shame we didn’t meet the hosts but the air bnb was spotless, and the welcome brownie was a lovely treat! The surrounding area was fantastic for walking and the red lion was a nice place for dinner. Overall thankyou to Bridget for an amazing air bnb, the hut and hot tub was perfect for us!

We enjoyed morning and evening dips in the Hot Tub looking out over wonderful views and sunsets! We could not recommend it any more highly and we will definitely be back! The hut comes with an information book and tips for the local area, we enjoyed a cycle and lunch at the local Monsal trail from Hassop Station, and a walk down into Bakewell from the end of the trail. Thank you again for a wonderful stay!

  • Highly recommended! We honestly cannot think of a single complaint. The location was amazing - whether you wish to enjoy some time simply relaxing in Litton and the surrounding area, or if you want to use the place as a base to explore the rest of the Peak District, you couldn't pick a better spot. The hut was beautifully designed and decorated - elegant, cozy and functional. We were consistently amazed at how many thoughtful touches were included - at no point did we ever think that something was missing. Clearly a place that has been designed by someone with a great sense of style and attention to detail. And Bridget's hospitality was fantastic - we had the utmost privacy whilst also feeling like she was always there to assist if needed. Wonderful holiday experience!

  • Bridgets place was immaculate. The Sheepfold was just as described, the wood burner kept us snuggly and warm, the hot tub was lush even though the weather was cold and windy. The bed was super comfy and the cleanliness and tidiness was second to none. The local pub served us a delicious meal and was only a short walk down the road. This was a perfect venue for a long weekend ❤️

We have lovingly restored a section of our 300 year old cottage for guests to have their own privacy. Our cottage is one of the most central properties in Castleton village. Suitable for couples or two person sharing (the bed splits in two). We supply the same luxurious standard as we do at our other cottages in Castleton and Bradwell. PLEASE NOTE WE DO NOT CHARGE CLEANING FEE WHICH MAKES US EVEN MORE ATTRACTIVE!
You will have a key to come and go as you please, the apartment has its' own entrance and is completely private. You are attached to our home, but there is a door between us that will be locked, so you are completely private. We will not go into the apartment whilst you stay
If you don't know Castleton be prepared for a treat. We live in one of the most beautiful villages in England (slightly biased!). There are 6 pubs, a bakery, fudge shop, so many coffee/ tea shops and lots of sight seeing things to do We have walking, cycling, rock climbing, paragliding, horse riding, fell running all available in the area. There are mines to go down and big hills to go up. So many beautiful stately homes, parks, forests and towns to visit. It truly is a beautiful area of the UK.
  • This is a lovely place to stay. Spotlessly clean. Very cosy. It has everything you need. It's in an ideal location, close to shops and pubs. Ideal location for walks and visiting caverns. Highly recommend staying here.

  • Lovely host! So thoughtful and friendly. Provided us with lots of information on the area and was easy to contact if needed. The space is beautiful, well equipped, clean and close to everything we wanted to do (walking distance) during our stay. Cannot fault it, would absolutely visit again!

  • A stylish and cosy hideout in a charming village with lots to do. Marieanne provided thoughtful touches and a warm welcome. A perfect base for a couple's long weekend. We will return

  • A perfect little cottage right in the heart of Castleton, ideal for a couple or a single person. The interior is cosy and immaculate - the bathroom and kitchen were surprisingly modern too, and had everything you would need - so much attention to detail :) Wifi was provided and I found it fast and reliable, and there's also a TV too. There's an amazing bakery just opposite, as well as a convenience store next door, and a number of pubs dotted around the village - all the food I sampled was fantastic and good value. This location was ideal for me, and meant walks up Cave Dale, Mam Tor and the Great Ridge were easily done straight from the door. You could even make it over to Kinder Scout via foot for a longer day out, or take a short car trip and park up near Edale. Public transport to and from the location was pretty good too. There is a bus terminal just near to the cottage which runs to the local (Hope) train station or goes straight into Sheffield - or you can even walk to Hope (40min), and take either the main road, or a scenic route via Peakshole Water. I would absolutely return and look forward to my next trip!

  • Amazing cottage, so clean and stylish and just so homely! In the centre of a great village with 7 pubs and the most amazing bakery/deli opposite the house. Beautiful walks from the doorstep. We got the train from London and did not need a car at all. Marieanne kindly picked us up from the station in Hope which is just a 5min drive from Castleton. A really perfect getaway amongst the most beautiful scenery. The walk to Mam Tor and along the ridge overlooking the whole valley was incredible and great to have so many pubs to choose from when we got back. It is in such a great location. There’s a fully fitted kitchen to cook or lots of options for food out. The shower was amazing too! Marieanne is an exceptional host and we highly recommend! Just book it!

  • I don't have enough positive words to use to praise Marianne's hospitality and space. She was so incredibly thoughtful in providing the basic necessities and treats to make my arrival easy, enjoyable and relaxing. She went out of her way in a number of ways to accommodate me since I was using public transport! The space is ABSOLUTELY beautiful. She had decorated and appointed it so pleasingly!. And very clean. Everything I could have needed was there. The village and surrounding countryside are such a pleasure to visit. Her place is smack-dab in the center of it all! I would go back in a heartbeat.

    Yvonne2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • We loved Marieanne's place, it's a beautiful space in a fantastic location with loads of things to do nearby. Walking distance to all the pubs and cafes, as well as walking tracks. From the friendly welcome to all the little special touches around the place, everything was perfect. Thank you for a lovely stay!

  • Very cool space right on the river, great for a weekend away with friends. The house was nice and cozy and had everything we needed. It is quircky in the best ways and the view of the river from the living area is epic. We had a group of friends and it was great value for what we got, it was also a nice spot for getting around the peak district to different hikes/walks. Michelle was a great host, she replied promptly and helped us with all our requests - we would definitely come back in the future!

  • Perfect space for a family getaway - or a couples retreat! I loved the peacefulness of staring out of the back window and the location for walking is a good spot too. Local pub was also a winner with vegetarian options and excellent choice of puddings 👌 would like to come back and see everything all green!

  • Lovely few days in the Peak District. such a relaxing space and getaway, second visit to Michelles and it’s a shame the sky lights have had to be taken out as it makes the indoor space darker, however overall enjoyed our stay

A sleeps two, barn conversion with original beams. The Nook is dog friendly (please check out our house rules for details) and is located at Back Tor Farm in the Edale Valley. We welcome all enquiries but do prefer Friday changeover dates.
The Nook at Back Tor Farm is set within the Peak District National Park in 5 acres of peaceful farmland and located below the Great Ridge between Mam Tor and Lose Hill. Back Tor Farm is a great place to come to relax and get away from it all. With panoramic views of Kinder Scout, this freshly converted stone built Derbyshire barn offers contemporary, yet cosy accommodation and all the modern comforts of under floor heating, stylish bathroom and highest quality linen. The Nook sleeps 2 in a king size bed. Travel cot and high chair available on request. There is a spacious, well equipped kitchen/dining room and comfortable lounge with smart TV. We also have another cottage 'The Cowshed' which sleeps 4. Combined booking are welcome and discounts may be offered. The location is perfect for walking and cycling, visiting Chatsworth and National Trust properties all year round. Nearby Edale village (the starting point of the Pennine way) has pubs, cafes and a small shop.
Edale is in the heart of The Peak District National Park. Back Tor Farm & our cottages are located in a quieter area of the Edale Valley. Our slightly elevated position benefits from having tremendous views of Kinder Scout. We are also located in a position that benefits from footpaths & bridleways right outside the door.
  • WOW. The pictures are incredible and still don’t do this place justice. We were looking to have a homemade retreat and we certainly got it. The dressing gown were an extra welcome surprise. The kitchen has everything you could want (I appreciated the black pepper and rock salt). The location is perfect, the hosts are wonderful and the welcome pack is a great touch 👌 all we could have wanted! Can’t wait to return!

    Vicky2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Nook is in a great location and beautifully kept. Clean and cosy, with a great kitchen and bathroom. Lots of space, which we didn't expect. Neil and Naomi are wonderful hosts. Very attentive and friendly. They were both helpful and happy to be of assistance. The Nook isn't too far away from the caverns we were hoping to visit and has great trails surrounding it. It's far enough away to be quite and remote. We would recommend staying here for a romantic or relaxing getaway and would definitely visit again!

    Indi2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a brilliant time at the Nook. The place gets five stars for everything from us - well-equipped, very clean, very comfortable, with extra nice touches like underfloor heating, a really nice mattress, and a great shower. Neil and Naomi are great hosts and we enjoyed meeting them. Thank you so much for a wonderful few days away - we hope to be back again soon!

    Katharine2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • The Nook is a really special place. Warm and cosy, even more so with the rain hammering down! The location is absolutely perfect for walking. The cottage is beautifully presented, and has everything you need with a few lovely extra touches. We would love to go back.

  • This cottage is in a walker paradise and it has all the comforts you need once you’ve explored the out doors. Would highly recommend and we hope to return soon.

  • We really enjoyed our stay here. Neil and Naomi were great hosts and made us feel very comfortable. Being located at the bottom of Back Tor and Mam Tor was fantastic and meant we could easily get out walking. The place itself was great, really warm and comfortable. Would highly recommend to anyone thinking about staying!

    Tom2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • The Nook is fantastic, perfect for a romantic getaway and a relaxing break. The views are stunning, the local walks are amazing and the hosts were really hospitable. Really lovely touches, fresh eggs, bread, milk, jam and butter. Everything we were looking for. We would recommend to anyone!

    Peter2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • The Nook is fabulous. I cannot speak highly enough of it; from how beautifully it was presented (it was impeccably clean throughout) to the wonderful little touches that make it special. The (very!) local eggs, butter and bread were delicious and the underfloor heating was brilliant for warming your feet following a long walk in the surrounding hills. Located approx. a 20min walk from Edale there were plenty more lovely pubs within easy walking distance, but for us the best thing was being able to walk out of the back door and be immediately immersed in the beautiful countryside. It was a wonderful place to spend a long weekend and we are very much hoping to come back.

Abby gave us some great recommendations for dinner to! There’s everything you need including milk for tea and coffee when you arrive (which we were so grateful for after a very wet walk!) Thank you so much for a great stay, we’ll definitely be back next time we visit the peaks

  • This tipi is delightful, so much bigger than expected, the kettle, lamps and fairy lights make it so homely and all the lovely bean bags make the space comfy and inviting. We were very comfortable inspight of the bad weather, the fire was good warmth (smokeless coal is a must) and we were very well protected from the wind and rain. We very much want to visit again in good weather!

    Pippa2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our one-night stay at the tipi! The smokeless coals were great and kept it warm all night. (Bring cash if you need to purchase fire wood etc.) Comfy camp beds and some extra blankets too. There was a kettle, mugs and plug sockets, all you need for a night of camping. Cheers Mark!

    Becky2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic little place

    Mathew2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • So many more amenities than I thought there would be: a kettle, mini firelighter stove and plug sockets! Everything was thought of. Very cute and homely inside and lovely location for an escape. Recommend 100x over! Would stay longer next time to fully enjoy the area

  • Great place for an escape from it all, proper Tipi surrounded by countryside. Perfect shelter after a day spent hiking in the hills.

    Jonny2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • I immediately fell in love with this cosy, unique space. The inside fire makes it possible to stay there in the coldest of weather and we even managed to cook a simple meal on the fire. An electrical supply is a bonus and we kept the fairy lights on all night. Mark has replaced the outside composting toilet with an inside chemical loo, which was very convenient. Make sure you take toilet paper! Lovely touches like animal skins on the beds for extra warmth. We took sleeping bags and a duvet and were toasty all night. Beware though: everything you take will smell strongly of wood smoke afterwards. I thoroughly recommend this place for getting away from it all.

    Sally2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing little trip away in the tipi. Had fun roasting marshmallows on the fire, and were more than warm enough overnight. Would really recommend this place :)

You can't ask for more since Garry is baking his own bread and offers it to you to use it according your needs. Will visit again the area and we both looking forward to stay in the best flat we have ever used in UK in all areas we've been. Can't recommend superhosts and flat enough!

  • A calming and cozy space. I love the gas "coal" fireplace, I've never seen one before (where I'm from they're all gas "log" fireplaces). Love the view of the train bridge out front, the kitchen has all the basics. Nice big shower. My friend and I were planning to do some walks in the Peak District but it was stormy, and we had to mitigate crumbling travel plans due to coronavirus, but I hope to be back during a less hectic time! Thanks so much!!!

    Jessica2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was fine. I didn’t mind not having tv at all for few nights. I enjoyed the fire place and games. It was nice and warm over night as well. Highly recommend!

    Mina2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Chose Jonathan’s place as I’m working at the opera house. Really lovely, clean and spacious flat! Close enough to the centre and the gardens to walk and only a couple of minutes drive if you have a car! Conveniently located Morrison’s at the bottom of the hill for petrol and shopping! Thought the kitchen in particular was lovely and modern!Only cons being there was no microwave which would’ve been useful for me to heat up left overs and no WiFi although this didn’t really matter as I was only there a few nights but if I was staying longer that would be crucial for me! As mentioned in other reviews the shower isn’t very powerful but is nice and warm, clean and big! All in all really nice clean, spacious and cosy flat perfect really to explore Buxton if you’re wanting a nice place to rest your head.

    Shannon2019-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely, spacious flat with everything you could need and spotlessly clean. Close to the centre of Buxton. Easy check in. Would definitely book again if visiting Buxton.

  • Great apartment, fairly spacious, clean and tidy. Very friendly owner. Overall very nice space and great experience, only one minor thing to mention but is not necessarily the fault of the property, the water pressure in the shower was very low but other than that no issues.

  • Such a convenient cottage - a great escape

  • Great place, very private, but only a 3 minute walk across a charming footbridge to Edale village and pubs. Sheila is a wonderful host, many nice touches. If there's anyone in your party that has an internet dependency, though, be aware that while the Wifi works, the speeds are very, very slow - 0.16 MBs was about typical. It's Peak District's way of telling us to get off the electronics and enjoy the outdoors!

  • Lovely little cottage - quiet, peaceful and private. A short walk on a footpath to a good pub with food and a garden. Great walks right on the doorstep. No phone signal but that’s half the fun. We were very happy with our stay! Thank you Sheila.

  • Mary’s Cottage hosted by Sheila is a real gem. We spent a couple of nights here, very peaceful, beautiful setting and very close to the pub and shop, though a lovely short walk. Great location for pennine way and exploring the Peak District. The scones were a lovely touch. Thank you hope to be back one day

  • We very much enjoyed our stay in Mary's cottage. We found the cottage to be very clean when we arrived and Sheila left us some scones which was a nice touch. The location is great - it is very quiet and close to walking routes to access Kinder Scout. There is also a pub and small village shops nearby which means it isn't totally isolated. Overall, we found our stay to be made very comfortable by the lovely, clean and scenic cottage and would definitely visit again.
