Places to stay in Peak Dale

Places to stay in Peak Dale
Our lovely little cottage is about 200 years old. It's cosy and slap bang in the middle of some of the best scenery the UK has to offer. Excellent for walking, cycling or simply site seeing the beautiful Derbyshire Peak District National Park. Castleton is such a pretty little town with it's own castle, 7 watering holes (all dog friendly) fabulous restaurants and delightful cafes. We are situated between Bakewell and Buxton. PLEASE NOTE WE DO NOT CHARGE FOR CLEANING YOU ARE ON HOLIDAY!
Our cottage is typical of the area, however, we have renovated it to a very high standard. You will have all the mod cons required these days with the feeling of living in a historical building. My back ground is tourism so I know what you want when staying away from home. This is a cosy little place and from the outside looks quite small, but inside the rooms are moderate in size, perfect for up to four people, 2-3 dogs depending on their size. The sleeping arrangements are 1 double bedroom and the second bedroom is classed as a small double with a queen size bed.
Our village is unique for the area as we have so much to do within walking distance. Caves to explore, hundreds of walks and cycle routes, pony trekking, pot holing, paragliding, hand gliding, fell running or sight seeing. All the pubs in the village are dog friendly. We are in the shadow of Mam Tor in an area known as the Dark Peaks. Our valley is called Hope Valley and is a basin with undulating hills all around. It really is spectacular. The pubs serve excellent traditional British pub food and plenty of it, with real ales and Gin clubs. 1530 is a fantastic Mediterranean restaurant with a great wine list. There is currently free parking and public car parks around the village.
  • We stayed in Marieanne's cottage for 4 nights and would have loved to stay longer! The location was great, Castleton is a lovely little town, and the cottage is within walking distance to everything you would want/need. The cottage itself is clean, super cosy and very nicely decorated, has so many unexpected extras full of hints and tips on the area, DVD's for rainy days/cosy nights in and tasty treats. We would absolutely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone

  • This place is super special. 2 mins walk from the beautiful village, with shops and pubs aplenty! Walks in the area are incredible especially the rocky Cave Dale!! The house is so beautiful are very comfortable. Everything you might need is available in the kitchen. Communication was perfect. Thanks 😊

    Katie2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Such a fabulous cottage and base to explore the Peak District. The cottage is so well equipped and cosy and Marieanne has put together some very useful information to help guide you for your stay! We definitely hope to be back again soon!

  • Clean and cosy cottage, fantastic host! Very responsive and lovely little touches to make us feel welcome! Particularly loved the pork pie! Great location.

    Lisa2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful place in a beautiful location, the cottage really is very accessible and has everything you could think of.

    Daniel2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Just the most amazing cottage. We felt so comfortable there and there is everything that you could wish for and so much more. Total excellence.

    Deb2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • I never usually visit the same place twice, but after my visit in January last year, I couldn’t wait to return and I feel the same again. The cottage is absolutely stunning, so tastefully decorated and styled, spotlessly clean, a real home from home providing everything you need and more. The location is spot on - a few minutes walk to lovely pubs and tea rooms in Castleton. Marieanne is always a pleasure to deal with and goes above and beyond. I will be returning!

    Clare2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is in a super location in the centre of Castleton. Close to all the pubs and little shops, and an easy base for plenty of countryside walks. We loved all the special touches and found the cottage well stocked with everything needed for a self catering break though we ate out most of the time at the pubs. The master room was comfortable and had plenty of storage space. The living room was well stocked with DVDs and games to keep you entertained on a rainy evening and the log fire was the perfect thing to follow a winter walk. The decor is chic and to a high standard, impeccably clean and adorably cute. Our only small issue was with the door in the bathroom as it has a window that looks directly into the shower. We just put a towel up though as we travelled with friends so they didn’t get a show! 😂 As a couple or maybe a family, this wouldn’t be a problem at all and it was quickly solved! We would 100% love to return for a romantic getaway or for our next walking holiday. Thank you!

    James2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful location and a perfect property for our University reunion (8 adults and 8 kids) The location is close to some incredible walks (we went to the Goyt Valley) and being joined to the Devonshire pub was perfection for Friday and Saturday night! We all ate there on the Saturday night and we would highly recommend that. Thanks Fiona for being a great host. Arriving to supplies in the fridge and homemade brownies was a great touch. The description of the property is accurate and fair - we all had a brilliant weekend.

    Alan2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Fiona's place is really fantastic for a large group of people. The photographs dont do it justice and I would not hesitate to recommend. The location is also beautiful. Thanks so much!

    Victoria2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • Fiona was really helpful before the booking with really thoughtful touches such as brownies and Prosecco. Pub next door had good pub food with very good service, great place to stay

    Alan2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed here with a stag do group of 12, the property was clean and had plenty of bed to go around. The kitchen was well equipped and the complimentary brownies were much appreciated! The property is above/next door to a pub and the staff were very welcoming and helpful. Location was perfect, about 20 mins into Buxton - £15-20 in a taxi.

    Alexander2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Great space for a big group of friends! Fiona was great at a quick response for all our questions. There is so much kitchen equipment etc. to accommodate all. We had food at the pub next door and not only were they super helpful and great with a big group, the food was delicious! We visited mam tour one day, a short drive away! And went to Buxton another day which was a lovely town (We had food at buxton brewery which was also great and accommodated a big group well, but we had to preorder food) Recommend a visit at this Airbnb for a big group of friends.

    Alys2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • A very good location. Ideal for a very large family with plenty of room for everyone to be comfortable.

    Amanda2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed with a mixed group of 14 for a stag party with no problems, and had a great time over the weekend at Fiona's place. Plenty of parking, rooms and beds to choose from. Kitchen supplies were a nice touch, milk, butter, bread, and the brownies were amazing! All areas of the house were utilised, including the pub as people split into smaller groups doing their own thing during the evening. Modern TV and WiFi meant we could set up some music and games. The house is in a great location, as the team activities I had arranged were only a 20 min drive away and were also enjoyed by all. Finally short people can have a good laugh as the tall people 'mind their head' up the stairs by the entrance and navigate the house of doors! But very spacious overall. Thanks for accommodating us all.

Part of a former school, our home offers a cosy stay in a lively peak district village. We have stone windows, oak beams and a log burning stove in the spacious lounge. We are 20 minutes by car from Bakewell , Buxton and Castleton. A great walking area. Have a look at the visit peak district website for ideas about our area. We are only happy to take 7 guests at a time , no extra guests will be allowed as our insurance does not allow it.
We have 4 bedrooms, sleeping 6 or 7 adults. 1 King sized bed , 1 double , 1 small double bed and a single room. There are 4 steps up to the lounge. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking. Towels and cotton bedding provided. We have one bathroom , that has a shower, bath and toilet. We also have a separate toilet and sink , both of these are upstairs.
We love walking in the area. The nearby Monsal trail is great for cycling. We love the tea rooms , pub lunches and local markets. The village is friendly and has all you could need, including a local doctor , chemist, several shops and a great butcher. Please visit 'visit tideswell' website for further information about the area.
  • A very well equipped home in an excellent location. The house is warm, cosy and tastefully decorated. The beds were comfortable and the area quiet; just what was needed for a weekend of sewing and having some down time from our busy lives. We will return again as the property suited the 4 of us perfectly. We wish we had booked another day to finish off all our projects. Thanks for being a friendly and available host too.

She showed us everything we needed to know about the place (which is very nice and cosy) and then left us to it I can’t recommend this place highly enough , it has everything you need and is ideally placed in the village itself We found it ideal for our winter break and the solid fuel burner kept us really warm on the cold nights Thanks again maggie

  • What a great stay, as a group of 8 we had plenty of space. We enjoyed a solid 10 mile walk and rewarded ourselves with a pint or six of ale in the lovely old hall inn pub. Terry was helpful and informative host throughout the booking process, and even left us a cake which was a treat. We snarfed our way through it, that in addition to Brian’s batch of flapjacks and we were all wiped out! Would certainly stay again Chinley is delightful.

  • A great host- very communicative and helpful. The house was great and exactly what was specified. The house really nice and was exactly what we needed.

    Rhys2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is in an excellent location for exploring the high peaks and the village has many facilities to make the stay even more comfortable. The house was excellently presented and we had plenty of room to relax, even though we had a large party. An extra shower would have been useful but it did not adversely affect our stay. Would highly recommend.

  • Great cottage, suitable for large groups - we had 7 staying (no couples!) and there was plenty of space to relax and eat together. Comprehensive kitchen, nice bedrooms, just a really nice atmosphere to this place, which was always warm. Host provided excellent local knowledge. Neighbours are friendly too which always helps. Highly recommended!

    David2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed staying at Terry’s house over New Year. She is a fantastic host, very helpful and welcoming and the location and set up for a large group is great.

  • This is the second time we have stayed at Nina’s place and again she was an outstanding host. She could not have done more for us. Would absolutely recommend the location, house and Nina’s hospitality. Thank you!

    Jenny2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • A fantatic house perfect for a weekend or longer getaway. Close to beautiful walks rides and towns, great amenities within short walk and Nina was a warm, generous hugely helpful host. We highly recommend. Seven ladies on a biking weekend - we’ll be back for more hopefully in spring or summer so we can enjoy even more of the house garden and surrounding area. Huge thanks!

    Sarah2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely place to stay, there were seven of us there and had to stay in for most of the time because of storm Dennis ,but we all had a great time playing games and listening to music and there was plenty of space for us all,we also had a fantastic meal at one of the local pubs, Perfect spot for a cozy getaway

    Bruce2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Nina’s cottage is stunning the picture do not do it justice. The garden is beautiful. Everything in the cottage is very thoughtful. Lots of kitchen utensils for cooking and an Amazon Alexa which was very useful! The bedrooms are very modern. We stayed in January and the cottage was very warm and cosy but also spacious! Amazing stay. Nina is also very friendly and responds quickly. She lives right next door which is handy also but was very happy for us to have a little get together. Thanks again.

    Devi2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • A absolutely lovely space, very clean and everything you could want for a very comfortable stay.

    Emily2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • We adored this house. We were two families with toddlers and the house was equipped with everything you can imagine for the children. The nice touches were toys, books and stair gates! We wish we had stayed longer as it was a home from home. The current pictures don’t do the house justice, in real life it’s super cosy and stylish. We would 100% return if the opportunity came up to visit the area again. P.s the path leading up to the house is very bumpy with potholes which might make some drivers nervous especially if you don’t have a 4x4.

    Jade2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our time at this cottage. All you could think of for your stay available and lots you hadn't!! The pictures do not do it justice. Lovely to see the different types of animals that come into the garden. Food for them is already waiting provided by Nina. We would definitely stay again

Stay in this traditional 17th Century cottage, listen to the relaxing stream from your bedroom window before you enjoy all the jaw dropping scenery when you step out of the front door. Situated in the heart of the beautiful village of Castleton, right next to the stream and enjoying a superb location near the 6 local pubs and numerous cafes. We have one double room for you to enjoy, with en-suite shower room. You can walk out of the door and be on a footpath within minutes.
It's not every day you get to sleep in a 17th Century cottage, that is only accessed on foot (no cars - lorries - vans going past this property) This reasonably sized double room - with en-suite shower room - is big enough for a travel cot - if you want to bring one for your small children. You have complete and sole access to our traditional lounge, which has a wood burner. There is also a small utility area for you to have sole use of (which has a sink and microwave) We recommend that you check out the huge range local cafes for breakfast as we don't include this.
Do you love the outdoors, scenery, history, quaint shops and the odd real ale or gin - if yes Castleton is perfect for you. Castleton is well known for it's beautiful scenery, walks, mountain biking, caving and other outdoor adventures. It has several caverns which are open for the majority of the year. The famous Peak Cavern (2 minutes walk) has occasional evening events, including concerts, film showings and haunted visits for Halloween and Carols at Christmas (check their website for dates and details). Peveril Castle entrance is less than 5 minutes to walk to - enjoy the history If you fancy taking the car out then - we are close to Chatsworth House and Gardens, Haddon Hall and the towns of Buxton and Bakewell. https://www.visitpeakdistrict.com/inspiration/uniquedistrict...

  • Thank you for another fabulous stay, we absolutely love this little place feels like home from home, Nicola is such an amazing host nothing is too much trouble.... till next time.... huge thank you🙂 xx

    Alina2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage in a great location. Nicola was friendly and welcoming and advised us on some good walks!

    Brittany2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely weekend in the cottage. It’s perfectly placed right in the middle of Castleton, lovely and cosy, with some great little touches to make our weekend special.

    Tom2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a great trip away! Nicola was helpful, gave fab directions and advice about the local area, and made the house very comfortable to stay in. Serene environment, beautiful village. Thank you!

    Eve2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Nicola’s cottage is gorgeous! It’s right on top of all the local bakeries, pubs and restaurants in Castleton and it’s only a small drive away from Mam Tor which is a beautiful walk. Nicola was great to create a booklet for us to see all the local things to do in the area which was really helpful as I’d never been to castleton before. Each room was very clean and tidy upon arrival which was a fantastic start. The lounge was spacious with a gorgeous fire and also has Apple TV which was great for netflix and I connected my laptop up to it to watch our own TV. The couches weren’t the most comfortable and you could tell they were very old and used but we didn’t really use them that often and mainly enjoyed sitting by the fire. The kitchen had everything you needed and again was very clean. Finally, the bedroom was lovely with fresh bedding and a comfy bed. The bathroom was nice too however, if you’re tall be aware the entrance to the bathroom was tiny and we’re only 5’6 and hit our head once or twice but that is expected with small cottages. The shower was great too and again everything you needed was provided.

  • This tipi is delightful, so much bigger than expected, the kettle, lamps and fairy lights make it so homely and all the lovely bean bags make the space comfy and inviting. We were very comfortable inspight of the bad weather, the fire was good warmth (smokeless coal is a must) and we were very well protected from the wind and rain. We very much want to visit again in good weather!

    Pippa2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our one-night stay at the tipi! The smokeless coals were great and kept it warm all night. (Bring cash if you need to purchase fire wood etc.) Comfy camp beds and some extra blankets too. There was a kettle, mugs and plug sockets, all you need for a night of camping. Cheers Mark!

    Becky2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic little place

    Mathew2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • So many more amenities than I thought there would be: a kettle, mini firelighter stove and plug sockets! Everything was thought of. Very cute and homely inside and lovely location for an escape. Recommend 100x over! Would stay longer next time to fully enjoy the area

    Alexa2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great little TP for a night camping.

    Josh2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great place for an escape from it all, proper Tipi surrounded by countryside. Perfect shelter after a day spent hiking in the hills.

    Jonny2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • I immediately fell in love with this cosy, unique space. The inside fire makes it possible to stay there in the coldest of weather and we even managed to cook a simple meal on the fire. An electrical supply is a bonus and we kept the fairy lights on all night. Mark has replaced the outside composting toilet with an inside chemical loo, which was very convenient. Make sure you take toilet paper! Lovely touches like animal skins on the beds for extra warmth. We took sleeping bags and a duvet and were toasty all night. Beware though: everything you take will smell strongly of wood smoke afterwards. I thoroughly recommend this place for getting away from it all.

    Sally2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing little trip away in the tipi. Had fun roasting marshmallows on the fire, and were more than warm enough overnight. Would really recommend this place :)

A pleasant cosy room in a terraced house in the centre of Buxton situated on the edge of the Peak National Park.
A cosy and comfortable room containing a king size bed with a firm mattress. Why a King size bed in an average size room? The answer to that is, I'm afraid I am useless with a tape measure!! It can be a bit of a squeeze getting into bed but there is lots of space to move around once your in :) Lockable bedroom door. All bedding and towels are provided. There are tea/coffee making facilities in the room. The bathroom: (shared with me) is right next door to the bedroom. Please note there is only a hand held shower in the bath and it is not designed to be a wet room. There is a smart TV in the room. Amazon prime and catch up TV is available but not regular programmes. If you decide to watch a film or series that does not have prime next to it on the menu there will be a charge for rental made by Amazon. Wifi is available so bring your lap top or iPad along with you. You are welcome to help yourself to breakfast cereals, yogurts and toast in a morning and use the dining table, plates and cutlery etc at other times to eat take away meals or to sit and have a drink. You can also use the microwave Outside space: you are able to use the outside areas. When the sun does shine it tends to be at the back of the house in the morning and at the front in the afternoons. I must add Buxton isn't favoured for its sunny weather!
Buxton lies just outside the National Park boundaries. There are lots of places to walk and explore with the Goyt Valley close by and Grinlow woods almost on our doorstep. Buxton is an old market and spa town nestling among the surrounding Derbyshire Hills at a height of 1000ft making it the highest town in England. It is often referred to as the Festival Town of the Peak District. My home is close to the Buxton Opera House, Pavillon Gardens and Art Centre, Serpentine Walk, Buxton Museum and Art Gallery, Pooles Cavern and Solomns Temple. There are a variety of micro breweries, bars, cafes and restaurants in the town.

Bushey Heath Farm is situated 3 km away from Tideswell village which has several pubs, cafes and shops. We are an eco-friendly site with ground source heating, rainwater harvesting and recycling available. Take one of the many footpaths that lead past your doorstep. Come and enjoy some peace and tranquility.
When you enter through the front door, you will come in to the charming kitchen which is fully equipped for self catering. There is a dining room table and seating for six people. A downstairs lavatory leads off from the kitchen. Upstairs, there is one bedroom with 3 bunk beds and a shower room. We provide a pillow and case, you provide a sleeping bag. Tideswell, known as the Cathedral of the Peak, is a busy little village. It is serviced by a Co-Op supermarket as well as some independant shops like Tindall's the Bakers, Post Office, Peaches the greengrocers and the local pharmacy. It is also well provided for with eateries and pubs inlcuding The Horse and Jockey, The Star Inn, The George and the Merchant's Yard restaurant. There is also a fish and chip shop opposite the church.
  • Amazing space, kitchen larger than expected, full equipped. Bunk beds comfy, just remember to bring a blanket/sheets or sleeping bag! Lovely location, Andrew and Suzy are fantastic and will definitely be staying again.

  • Little Barn is a lovely place to stay and really great value for what it offers! The hosts were very welcoming, helpful, and kind. The kitchen is very well equipped, and the bathroom (plus a second extra toilet) was sparkling clean and the shower is very spacious! The entire space was very well heated even when we were visiting in winter. The location is lovely, with some views just as you walk out of the driveway. And it's in the middle of the Peak District so easy to explore anywhere from here. Just remember to bring bedsheets, duvet/sleeping bag, and towels! The bunks in the bedroom took me back to my school camp days, very quaint! The bedroom is spacious and can easily fit the luggage of six people (there are six beds total).

  • We all really enjoyed our winter get away at the little barn. We recieved great communication and advice about our walking plans. The barn was cute and clean, easy to find (its even on our OS map) , quiet and comfortable. Top tips: don't forget towels ( oops!) And if you're going to hang out in the kitchen at night those of us with slippers were happiest on the beautiful flag stone floors:)

  • We had a lovely overnight stay at the Little Barn. The hosts are so friendly, and welcomed us and our mini schnauzers. Nearby Castleton was a gem, and the location and surrounding area is breathtaking. We will definitely return to the Peak District.

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE *OPEN* We plan to continue giving people the opportunity to get away from it all especially during these challenging times. Please be assured that our careful, thorough cleaning routine is even more important to us at the moment. Leaping Hare Barn is a peacefully rural, rustic simply decorated and equipped upper floor barn situated at New Buildings Farm, a working small holding within the small, isolated parish of Flagg between Bakewell and Buxton.
Scenic rural countryside location. 17th century Loft barn accessed by steep stone stairs with fantastic countryside views. Original rough sawn floorboards and stone walls retain the buildings history and character.
Small isolated rural farming village. Situated 5 miles from the local towns of Bakewell and Buxton, near enough to civilisation and rural enough to enjoy the beautiful countryside of the Peak District.
  • Great place, great location, quiet and relaxing. Would recommend.

  • Chose Jonathan’s place as I’m working at the opera house. Really lovely, clean and spacious flat! Close enough to the centre and the gardens to walk and only a couple of minutes drive if you have a car! Conveniently located Morrison’s at the bottom of the hill for petrol and shopping! Thought the kitchen in particular was lovely and modern!Only cons being there was no microwave which would’ve been useful for me to heat up left overs and no WiFi although this didn’t really matter as I was only there a few nights but if I was staying longer that would be crucial for me! As mentioned in other reviews the shower isn’t very powerful but is nice and warm, clean and big! All in all really nice clean, spacious and cosy flat perfect really to explore Buxton if you’re wanting a nice place to rest your head.

Comfortable 3* accommodation in the unspoilt village of Taddington, set in the heart of the magnificent Derbyshire Dales, midway between the ancient market town of Bakewell and the famous spa town of Buxton.
The accommodation comprises: living room with exposed beams and log burning stove (logs provided); a bright kitchen and dining room; spacious hallway; one double bedroom with en suite bath/shower room. A few minutes walk up the footpath by the cottage takes you to High Well where there are spectacular wide ranging views of the area. • A lovely cottage in a quaint village with easy access to Buxton and Bakewell. The cottage is clean and has all items needed, great kitchen and comfy bed. Loved the fireplace and having everything there to use it each night. Some great walks from the house. Judith was easily contactable and friendly. We would stay again.

Quiet, peaceful and comfy, we loved returning to a warm welcoming home at the end of each day. Judith has thought of everything and is a caring host from start to finish. • An absolutely wonderful cottage to escape to the peaks in! Close to all the places you could want to be (Bakewell, Buxton etc) but still in the peaceful countryside! We had terrible weather some of the time but the cosy cottage was great for snuggling up and watching some movies! We met Judith on arrival and on departure, she helped us with everything and was lovely and friendly, even asking how warm we like to be so she could set the heating for us! She left us to it the rest of the time, but when we messaged asking for the heating to be turned up due to the unexpected cold weather she messaged instantly and the heating was on within minutes!! This place had everything you could possibly need for a relaxing break, whatever your plans are! Do not hesitate to book this place!!

  • My husband and I stayed at limehurst for 1 night. The apartment was very stylish and inkeeping with the original building, which was nice. Everywhere was very clean and the apartment was lovely and warm after a cold walk up Shining Tor. Nick and Rachel were really responsive to any queries and nothing seemed to much hassle. Checking in and out was simple and we loved the massive comfy bed. We will definitely return soon. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your beautiful apartment.

  • Great apartment - spacious yet cosy - clean, comfortable and remarkably well-equipped. It occupies the entire lower floor of a substantial double-fronted house and has its own private entrance at the rear of the property, via a conservatory that overlooks extensive gardens (an attractive feature - even in February, that add to a real sense of tranquility). The house itself is in a quiet, tree-lined residential road - yet within walking distance of Buxton's attractive town centre. Parking is easy in the spacious front drive. Gemma was (is) the perfect host; we really appreciated the great communications in the run-up to our stay, her warm welcome when we arrived, the excellent advice she gave us when asked about everything from where to eat in Buxton to how to work the impressive TV / entertainment systems. (That last bit she delegated to husband Frank who patiently and cheerfully popped-in to show us which remote did what!) Finally, check-out was speedy and smooth. We were sorry to leave.

Enjoying a delightful , elevated position, off a single track lane above the village of Peak Forest, this beautiful, cosy cottage is decorated to a high standard with oak beams and a stone floor, a farmhouse style kitchen and a comfy lounge with WiFi, satellite tv, and an electric log burner.
Adjoining the owners’ property, the cottage has been furnished to a high standard throughout and has a heavily beamed interior. A perfect base from which to explore the Peak District National Park. There are numerous fabulous walks from the front door and one of the deepest Peak potholes, Eldon Hole, lies close by. Perfect for keen hikers being close to Kinder Scout, Mam Tor & Cave Dale. The cottage is full of character with a lovely, warm, relaxing and homely feel to it. Please be aware that the accomodation is on the top floor via 2 flights of stairs.
***UPDATE: MAY WE RESPECTFULLY ASK PROSPECTIVE GUESTS NOT TO BOOK OUR PLACE IF YOU HAVE RECENTLY TRAVELLED OVERSEAS OR IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING COLD OR FLU SYMPTOMS. THIS IS A FAMILY HOME AND WE NEED TO PROTECT EVERYONE WHO LIVES HERE AND ALSO OTHER AIRBNB GUESTS! **** Please note that as your accommodation is the top floor of a family home, we may be at the property on the same night that you stay with us. We ask kindly therefore, that noise levels are kept to a minimum after 10pm to enable our children to be able to get to sleep :) Our main kitchen facilities are available for you to use especially those staying more than one night, but with prior notice please as this is our family kitchen.
The Old Hall Hotel was visited by Mary Queen of Scots and is steeped in history, with wonky floors and everything! There is a statuesque Museum and Art Gallery on the approach to the Market place (in this market town- with a somewhat scaled down market these days unfortunately- but this is a work in progress) There is a lovely Art Gallery run by artist volunteers called the Green Man Gallery, just behind the museum. There are coffee houses, a cocktail bar, restaurants from around the world as well as many providing English fayre. Plenty of walks, open spaces, parks and a breathtaking cavern. There is a spa water swimming pool and gymnasium situated in the palatial Pavilion Gardens with fantastic parks for children- and there is ice cream! Be certain to add the grand Buxton Opera House to your list of must sees - just the building alone, with gold leaf interior and marble pillars is worth the visit. The events programme there offers everything from International Opera tours to huge names in Pop, Rock and even yearly visits by pre-school idols! All within a short walk, there is a well frequented night club and after hours bars, pubs and micro-pubs too. The shops are fabulous, from Boutique to Boots- Buxton really does have it all!
  • Great hospitality, very comfy beds and a nice extra touch to have breakfast included.

COVID19 - We are sadly closed until further notice. However as the property is on the same site as our own home we are taking the opportunity to do some maintenance work and get it spick and span for when guests can return and enjoy it. We are also working hard on the garden that the cottage overlooks and everything is springing to life now the warmer weather is on its way and it looks beautiful. We are looking forward to welcoming you back when we are able to. Stay safe everyone.
The setting of this cosy small cottage is beautiful and you feel quite secluded, yet the village of Edale is 1 minute walk away. From here you can enjoy the countryside by walking or biking, short or longer routes. Goose Croft is a 50min drive from Manchester airport. You can use the train to get to Edale from the airport via Manchester Piccadilly station. From the living room or out on the patio you can enjoy watching the many birds that come and visit the bird feeders and gritstone bird bath. Regular visitors are Chaffinch, Gold Finch, Blue tit, Great tit, Coal tit and Great Spotted Woodpecker. The quality 'Clearview' wood burner is an added bonus for those cosy evenings. It will be laid ready for you on arrival and there are clear pictorial instructions on how to use it correctly. The first basket of logs is complimentary and after that there are nets of logs, kindling, firelighters and newspaper that are available to purchase at cost, we use an 'honesty box' for this. The kitchen is fully equipped and has an induction hob, electric cooker, microwave, dishwasher and a fridge with a small freezer compartment. Goose Croft has its own private parking space for one car and a safe bicycle storage shed for you to lock your bikes in, should you wish to bring them along to explore the area on two wheels. I do not charge a cleaning fee in addition to the nightly rate but request that guests leave the cottage neat and tidy and I will do the rest to ensure it is perfect for new visitors arriving.
The scenery around this area in the Peak National Park is stunning, I have lived here for 30 years and never want to move. The village has two pubs, The Nags Head and The Rambler Inn, two cafes, the Penny Pot and Cooper's Cafe, there is also a small shop.(various opening times depending on the season). The Moorland Centre is half a mile down the road and has lots of useful information about the area. In Goose Croft there is a comprehensive guest information folder, a basket full of tourist attractions etc. I have also put together A4 laminated maps showing local walks straight from the door, for you to take out and use. Castleton is just 7 miles by car and you can also walk to the village over the Mam Tor/ Losehill Ridge via the old 'coffin route'. Castleton has an assortment of gift shops selling the famous Blue John stone, four different caves to visit, a good selection of cafes and six pubs! Buxton is also worth a day visit, as is the market town of Bakewell (if only to go and buy a Bakewell pudding, not tart!) and the well known Chatsworth with its beautiful house and fabulous gardens. Eyam the 'plague village' is a really interesting day out, there is also a museum (telling the story of the plague), Eyam Hall and its Craft Centre. You can also visit The Riley Graves, the tragic burial ground of a Peak District plague family. The gritstone edges and moorland of the Dark Peak and the beautiful valleys of the White Peak provide two contrasting areas to go walking or cycling. The Hope Valley train line (Edale station 10min walk from Goose Croft) gives you the option to explore the area without a car. Many of our guests have taken the train to villages along the line and then walked back to the cottage. Or use the train to visit Manchester or Sheffield for a day.
  • Had a wonderful stay at Goose Croft. Would highly recommend. Great location, warm, cosy and clean.

  • Just spent a lovely few days at Goose Croft. The cottage is warm, cosy, peaceful and very well equipped, Jill has thought of everything guests would need. There are numerous garden birds to watch from the french windows as well as fabulous views of the surrounding hills from the bedroom windows. There are two nice pubs within a very short walk and the Pennine Way is very close by. A wonderful place to shut the world out and simply relax. Very highly recommended!

    Karen2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing cottage tucked away in the village of Edale. A stones throw away from the beautiful hills, the train station and a welcoming pub. Jill's cottage is cosy, clean and full of everything you could possibly need for your stay. Thank you!

  • A hearty recommendation for this fabulous cottage. Every single box was ticked for me, great location, easy check in, fantastic communication, extremely well appointed and wonderfully clean space, comfy bed, lovely fire, birds in the garden, quiet, private, yards from the pub and one minute to completely majestic countryside in every direction. I couldn’t praise this cottage and Jill’s work here highly enough. Helpful notes, handy maps, snuggly blankets and homemade scones were just the cherry on the top.

    Zoe2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • So enjoyed our stay at Goose Croft. Such a picturesque cosy cottage with lots of thoughtful touches throughout. Just the perfect base for a few days exploring the Peak District, with incredible walks literally right on the doorstep. Highlight was reading in the evening with the wood burner going after a full day of walking the hills, bliss! Thank you for a great stay Jill, we’d love to come back!

    James2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Goose Croft is a lovely cosy cottage in a great location. Perfect for walks and pubs. Jill left lots of helpful notes to help us settle in and some great scones and jam! We hope to visit again one day. Bill and Yaz

  • This place is an absolute gem. A perfect cottage in a beautiful village. Walks galore (Jill left some great suggestions on handily laminated cards) and staggering distance from the local pub. Lovely welcoming touches - from homemade scones on arrival to a torch and blankets for outside use. Great to stay in a private hideaway while knowing Jill was nearby should anything be needed. I hope to return.

    Jane2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Goose croft is a beautiful, warm and lovely cottage in a majestic place! It's fantastic location and the love and attention that has been put into it makes it a perfect place to start and end a day filled with the unbelievable scenery of the peaks surrounding it. Jill is very warm and welcoming, and she has taken such care to create a truly wonderful space. We will definitely be coming back in the future!

The self catering barn sleeps up to four in two king sized bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. Enter the barn in the utility room to drop off your muddy boots before going into the double height open plan kitchen, dining and living area with underfloor heating and wood burning stove to stay cosy and warm.
The barn is self catering sleeps up to four in two king sized bedrooms with en-suites. The kitchen is equipped with dishwasher, oven, hob and fridge with a freezer in the utility. Note there is no microwave. If you are looking for something quiet, remote and off the beaten track whilst still having easy access to explore the Peak District National Park, then this will be perfect for you. With Cracken Edge Barn you have many public footpaths right on your doorstep, and the views are stunning. If you want to see more pics and follow life at the barn then check our our Instagram feed @crackenedgebarn If you just fancy cosying up by the wood burning stove, there is a comfy leather chair and a sofa to relax on as well as underfloor heating to keep nice and toasty! We also have a Nest thermostat system so it's easy to set the barn to the temperature you want it to be and in winter we set this ahead of your visit so it’s nice and warm when you arrive. For entertainment we have an Apple TV which you can log into as well as a number of board games for those rainy days where you just want to stay in by the fire. We also have local maps, hiking books and recommendations for good walks, pubs, restaurants etc. in the barn which you are welcome to use during your stay, just leave them behind for the next guest. We are dog friendly and you can bring up to two dogs with you (just let us know in advance so we can arrange a special clean for afterwards). Note there are other dogs around as we live in the farmhouse nearby and have two friendly dogs. You may also see sheep, cows, chickens, badgers and hares around the barn.
Cracken Edge Barn feels like it is in the middle of nowhere surrounded by hills and panoramic views of the Peak District National Park, but we are not far from the local train station, shops, pubs and other amenities. Chinley Cheese, our local Deli/ Post Office, is 2 minutes drive and stocks great cheeses, preserves, ales, gins, tea and coffee amongst others - much of which is produced locally in the Peak District. The Old Hall Inn is our nearest pub. It's an award winning real ale house with fine home cooked food and a really lively and welcoming atmosphere. They also have a sister pub called The Paper Mill Inn in which is a cosy pub serving great local ales and fab pizza. Both are dog friendly and a 5-10 min drive. The local village (Chinley) also has a butchers, cafes (Tea on the Green and Green Lane Social), laundrette and convenience shops. The nearest supermarket is Aldi (10 mins) and there is a Tesco in Whaley Bridge (12 mins) or Waitrose in Buxton (20 mins). Glossop also has a brilliant Bakery (Grains Bakehouse) and many more shops, pubs and restaurants (20 mins). We are a short drive to access many well known parts of the Peak District. Mam Tor and Winnats Pass (15 mins), Castleton, Pevril Castle and the Blue John Cavern caves (20 mins), Edale (20 mins), Kinder Scout (10 mins to Hayfield), Buxton (20 mins), Bakewell (35 mins), Chatsworth (35 mins). We are also a 5 min drive or 20 min walk from Chinley train station which has good access to the rest of the National park on the Northern line to Sheffield. Sheffield is 45 mins on the train and Manchester is 35 mins.
  • Wow. What an absolute GEM of a place! Sarah and Chris have done an outstanding job of making Cracken Edge barn feel like a home away from home whilst also feeling like a touch of luxury. My boyfriend and I spent 2 nights at the barn with our 2 dogs and within moments of arriving wanted to book our next visit. Everything is as described, and the little hamper of local goodies was a wonderful treat. We decided to spend the entire weekend at the barn and chose to walk to Hayfield and back again as a day trip after deciding the route thanks to one of the OS maps in the barn. The barn is perfect for a visit with dogs as there are plenty of walks on the doorstep. We especially loved the log burning stove for the cold and rainy nights. Check in and communication were absolutely faultless. Would absolutely recommend for a stay in the Peak District. Thankyou Sarah and Chris!

    Anna2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • We would recommend this well fitted out, new, modern, warm, cosy, very equipped barn, surrounded with fantastic walks and views. Close to a nice village with two fantastic pubs 20 minute walk away. They we very accommodating and put some lovely touches in the barn. We would love to return.

    Louise2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • It was a privilege to be the first guests to stay here. This is an impressive conversion, in a stunning location. A true home from home with everything you need to instantly relax and unwind. Walk onto the hillside from the front door, climb the paths further upwards and soak in the vast and wild views. And then return to the fireside in the barn and warm up. Pure bliss. I’ve stayed in a fair few Airbnbs - with and without my dog (this time with) - and it was amongst the most memorable places I’ve visited. Congratulations Sarah and Chris on creating a true gem.

  • Very responsive hosts, I struggled to get into the property, this was nothing to do with the hosts instructions which were great! I just mis read them. Mel was very quick to respond and we got in no problem. The property was super clean and cosy. The location was great, just a short walk into town and in driving distance of the sights, we had a great time at Poole's Cavern, just 15 mins away.
