  • Fantastic accommodation, clean, tasteful and stylish. A great nights sleep in a lovely peaceful and quiet location. Ideally placed to explore Castlemaine and it’s surrounds, we particularly enjoyed a wonderful stroll into town along the creek side track. Thank you Elisabeth, for hosting us, we’re going to miss the sound of happy ducks.

    Sarah2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • If you’re looking for a place to separate yourself from the city noise, look no further than this cute little studio. Elegantly styled, the space meets the needs of everything you’re after. The barn has been converted in the most perfect way. Additional thoughtful touches included delicious breakfast snacks, Aesop products in bathroom, a beautiful scented candle, the most COMFY bed and pillows that you can just melt in to and gorgeous decor to obsess over. The local tips in the kitchen also were extremely helpful directing the weekend with some walks in the local gardens and winery’s. Lastly, watching the ducks outside the window scurry around the property were to die for, waking up to their quacks was the best way for me to get out of bed. Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful home Elisabeth 🙏

  • Our stay at Athena and Yvette's place was super relaxing, in a wonderful setting. We hope to come back again. We were treated with croissants to warm up in the oven for breakfast and great local tips. Castlemaine is a top spot.

  • My friends and I really enjoyed our stay at The Mudhouse. Really recommend it to anyone looking for unique experience but also connected to the main town. A few mins drive from Castlemaine's monthly farmers market. Thanks for offering your wonderful space Athena and Yvette.

    Joe2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • The Mudhouse is a serene and peaceful retreat only a very short drive from the centre of Castlemaine. Surrounded by tall trees and with some sheep, bunnies, a peacock and a friendly dog as your neighbour, it is easy to relax. It was comfortably furnished, and we felt immediately at home with an icy drink and croissants awaiting us on arrival. With Athena and Yvette’s property next door, we also felt it was very safe and quite private. The house was perfect for our little dog too. The backyard isn’t enclosed, but we walked around the vast property for our dog to enjoy the smells of nature, and of course to play with the resident dog Totero. It is a lovely location for an escape, and we look forward to visiting again soon.

  • Robyn's place is just right for a couple of nights out of town. Quite enough to know your away, and close enough to Castlemain to be able to do stuff during the day. Nicely set up for couples in a bush setting, and much better than a 'shack'.

    Rob2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • The love shack is an outstanding place with beautiful sceneries and skies. The house is surrounded by trees, kangaroos and many other animals. Inside the atmosphere is warm and welcoming we highly recommend it.

  • Fantastic location and place. Value for money exceptional though you need to understand the value is based on guests treating the place as their own home and tidying up behind them. So peaceful - if you want parties avoid. Peace, quiet, solitude, clean air, downtime and no wifi. Plus great foodie and wineries near by to ensure the complete weekend.

  • Helen and Randall always make a special effort to provide fresh and unusually generous supplies which is terrific. Roses from the garden, a friendly dog and complete privacy and comfort. A refreshing original and contemporary style and best value we’ve found in Castlemaine.

    Alison2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Spent two fabulous nights at Randall and Helen’s studio. It was a wonderful surprise as we are newbies to Air BnB. The studio was spacious, well-appointed and clean...a real home away from home for us. Randall and Helen were super easy to communicate with and very approachable when advice when required. They were especially helpful when we had a car and health hiccup during our stay.

    Meredeth2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you for the awesome stay. Both Randall and Helen asked many times if everything was all good and if I needed anything else. Always provided anything I needed. Great communication. Very clean, happy to come in a clean once a week ( as I stayed for a month) would recommend to anyone!

    Jasmine2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great little cottage. Super charming and well furnished. We loved the garden. Also very comfy bed! The only thing - which is not Bonnie's fault at all - is the bedroom window backs onto the beer garden of the pub next door, which didn't have loud music or anything, just some laughs and conversations.

    Niama2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Bonnie's place is in a great location in Castlemaine. As some of the other reviewers have said, it's location right next door to the Bridge Hotel pub means that when a band is playing it is very loud in the house, but as we stayed on a Sunday night the band finished at 5.30pm so this was not an issue for us - a Friday or Saturday might be different though! The cottage is so cute and charming, and in an absolutely cracking location for vintage shopping and a walk around the botanic gardens (just down the street!), and one of the best pub meals we've ever had at the Bridge Hotel next door! We would definitely say here again!

  • This is a magic home from home and our second stay here. Sarah is a great host and has spent a lot of time attending to every detail and facility in the spacious accommodation. Evenings can be wasted away in the huge outside entertainment area, complete with BBQ and astonishing sunsets. And the occasional kangaroo may drop in. Newstead is a tiny, quintessential Australian township just a short walk from Sarah's place. A short drive away puts you into Castlemaine, Daylesford etc. if you want the bigger picture. A great place to relax and enjoy serenity.

  • Beautiful place. It was perfect for our group of five and Sarah was always quick to respond to us when we needed and was nothing but lovely.

  • This is an amazing and family friendly place for a quiet getaway. Our family and dog loved the thoughtful touches and time away from the busy everyday life. The property is huge and safely fenced so your dog will have plenty of space to roam and run around in. We loved the CD player outside on the decking where we could listen to soft jazz music (there’s a whole stack of CDs and movies in one of the bedrooms) while chatting on the couch. My husband and I also loved sitting on the two chairs around the other side of the decking to gaze at the night sky/stars. The dining table can be pulled out to accommodate 6 people. Please note that this property is further out from town and does not have fast wifi or phone connection, which I loved as it forces you to spend time together with your family rather than being glued to the screen. I now have fond memories of us as a family spending quality time together in this quaint cottage.

The inside is beautifully fitted out and clean as a whistle. We also arrived to a warm fire which was a thoughtful touch. Would recommend for a great weekend away from the city.

  • Charming little studio in a nice quiet spot in Castlemaine. Peter is very knowledgeable regarding the local area and is well prepared to offer suggestions for anything you might need during your stay. We had an unfortunate mishap out at Hanging Rock (a broken ankle needing ambulance directly down to Melbourne) and couldn’t return to pack our things and collect our car. Peter was able to take care of this for us, it was a great relief knowing our belongings were safe. He was not at all bothered about the inconvenience to him, but was most concerned that we were ok. Thank you again Peter, for all your help, it was greatly appreciated.

Enjoy peace and quiet in self-contained and comfortable accommodation attached to historic building in bush setting. Attractive, air-conditioned large room which includes a kitchenette. Private bathroom and verandah. 15 mins to Castlemaine & Maldon.
The retreat is an attractive addition to 1870s hand-made brick school which I have transformed into a home where I have lived for 25 years. The place is surrounded on three sides by a beautiful bushland reserve and to the west there are views of Mount Tarrangower and the Nuggety Range.
A bush reserve surrounds the property. I am happy to take guests on a 20 - 30 minute morning walk around this reserve if arranged the day before.
  • Cosy, comfortable and clean. This lovely little cottage on acres is a wonderful getaway. Castlemaine is easy driving distance and when I was done there, the cottage was perfect for chillaxing with book, tv, glass of wine. Thanks for all your local knowledge Bronwyn.

  • It is such a peaceful place in the middle of gum trees. It is well equipped and just enough to cook for 2 people. There is a nice track for a pleasant nature walk through the gum trees which you can spot lots of different birds, kangaroos and if lucky an echidna too! Bronwyn is a very friendly host. It was very nice of her that she offered to accompany me during the walk. It is ideal for people looking for some quiet time. It is a bonus to be just 10 mins drive from Castlemaine.

  • Everything about Tinto is just stunning. The location is fantastic, very close to Castlemaine and Maldon, but also secluded and out of town. It is a proper country retreat. The accommodation is fantastic. Very spacious and clean, with everything you need. The lounge area has to be seen to be believed! Amazing views and a full size snooker table. Justine and Jason were brilliant. Very quick to communicate and everything was seamless. We were a family of 4 with 2 children (aged 10 and 12) and they just loved playing basketball, roaming around the eucalyptus trees and toasting marshmallows in the fire pit. We will definitely stay again.

Quiet serene location, highly recommend for anyone wanting to get away and relax. Thank you so much for your hospitality, the kids had a ball (and so did we), we all enjoyed toasting the Marshmallows, in the fire pit, you kindly organised for us. We look forward to next time! Nestled in the Harcourt hills, this studio apartment is perfect for a weekend retreat or country getaway. The studio is set back from the main property, adjacent to the open paddocks of this rural setting. Less than 10 minutes from Castlemaine and a short drive to the mountain bike track, vineyards, orchards and walks, Victoria’s apple capital makes for an idyllic escape. Dine on a seasonal breakfast and choose to either enjoy your seclusion or have a cuppa or meal with the friendly hosts.
The space is a newly renovated studio, complete with small kitchenette (coffees/teas/toast), cosy queen bed and gorgeous outlook. There’s a fold out couch for another double bed option. Relax outside under the veranda, or stroll around the nearby paddocks (we’re on an acre block, but back onto neighbouring pasture). The studio is part of a small regenerative property project. We’re re-planting trees, growing veggies, nurturing chickens and reviving the nearby creek.
The Harcourt valley is Victoria’s apple growing center. Explore the fruit orchards, enjoy wine tasting and lunch at premier vineyards, relax on scenic Mt Alexander or picnic at Harcourt’s Oak Forest. For more adventure, Harcourt’s new La Larr Ba Guawa mountain bike park has some of the best trails in the state and is a short ride from the property. Historic Castlemaine is 10 minutes down the road. Enjoy the food, galleries and parks of Victoria’s gold country.

Retreat to a garden setting yet short walk to hub. Mid and Long term rates at Redhaus Artist Cottage are slashed to below cost. Immaculately clean, socially distanced yet easy access to services, this quirky bohemian colonial offers rooftop solar, garden surrounds, antique books & yoga mats, kettle-gongs and writers tools to nourish earth, mind and spirit in these trying times. Ideal for Self isolators as well as artists, cyclists or seekers of stillness & retreat.
Oh Rothaus - if looks could kill: Quirky aesthetics define the interior, the floor is rough, the chairs are few, the walls argue with one another leaving a lacunae worthy of Doctor Who. But the tea service is vintage, the milk jug handmade and the bathroom (real bath) is a tongue-in-cheek gold-encrusted blue. ROOMENHAUS This 2 bedroom workers cottage can be configured as two adjoined bedrooms, or bedroom with formal lounge, and features entrance as dining or living room, sunny eat in kitchen, laundry, bathroom, separate toilet and gardens with back and front verandahs. The RHINO RHOOM a dedicated bedroom populated with rhino effigies, dominated by a deep plush mattress 4 luxury pillows, r.c. air conditioning and a gorgeous sun-drenched garden view. It communicates via a lockable door onto... The GALLERY ROOM, spacious 16sq metres with a generous daybed in sitting room mode converting to single or queen size bedroom features Morroccan wire work and colonial pressed tin decor. A changing exhibition of artwork on the walls turn this room into a pop-up gallery if ever bookings get too low. The ART STUDIO (book separately) is really a shared space for working, it houses art materials, easels, tools and often works in progress. It is available as add-on at a budget rate for guests holding concurrent room bookings or during festival time and other special events i offer it with a single bed and bar fridge for a semi self contained short stay. Note: it is not automatically included with the whole house 2br offer. GREENHAUS - the earth and you: All new interior paint is Low VOC for your wellbeing. Solar panels augment grid power, gas for all things hot, and much as we aspire to passive thermal it is nigh on unachievable in a solid masonry colonial with original features like this. At least the air-con is 5 star rated and more passive solutions will be added as we can. Natural cruelty-free organic products are supplied In the bathroom, kitchen and laundry along with natural vinegar, bicarb soda and recycled p.e.t. microfibre cleaning cloths. We expect you will want to use your own shampoos. Who Gives a Crap supply our paper products - each roll supporting clean water projects where its needed in the world. And we proudly support ethical locals, such as Hepburn Spa natural local mineral water. RADIOHAUS - aka the WIFI: We provide unlimited wifi service at 2.5 & 5 Ghz (thanks to the infamous Australian fibre-to-the-where-exactly NBN service. Let me know of you have issues with the speeds, so we can vote accordingly in the next election). You will find a usb hub with popular charging cables and a JBL portable bluetooth speaker to augment your devices. SAFEHAUS: Both rooms have their own internal security deadlock. There is also an artisan made recycled timber lockbox with self select combination code padlock to secure your things of value. The studio is a self contained space with its own private entry. The area is generally safe. RADHAUS: With your wholistic creative objectives in mind, we' ve left you some yoga mats, musical instruments, books, and information on art galleries and cultural events. There are great opportunities for En Plein Air painting round the historic streetscapes and rural outlooks. Ask about using the extra project space in the adjacent Art studio, ARTHAUS: To BOOK THE STUDIO for projects, workshops rehearsals or private use please contact us directly when you book your room, because we don’t make it appear as available on the app by default. Price will depend on your planned use, sliding from $8 to $80 extra. You are welcome to invite non guests to work with you there, but you are responsible for any work or tools not belonging to you. ROSENHAUS: Generous garden surroundings offer great picnic and reading spots, and these are cared for by a wonderful retired teacher and neighbour, Dianne. If you see her on her daily watering rounds she's also a great source of local information, (or gossip if you want to go there. Its a toggle tap tho, be advised.) RATTENHAUS Pets can be accommodated in most cases but as 'pets' is a broad term we just ask you to discuss your animal companions with us and accept certain parameters, like picking up poos (Dianne is totes NOT a fan of doing this FOR you). BREADHAUS: Breakfast is right across the road at Grists bakery - great coffee and pastries - but only until 3pm if your lucky and Never on Sunday. Our sunny kitchen includes microwave, coffee maker, toaster, full gas stove with oven, a wok, a huge Javanese mortar and pestle, and all the utensils you should need. Please note in funny old Castlemaine food ceases to be available in town after 8:15 except at the supermarket which mostly closes at 9pm so hit up the gorgeous wineries and food markets early for supplies if you are a night owl. More info on my fave places are on the info shelves - but check 'This Little Piggy' in Barker st for Asian supplies if you ever find it open! WASHHAUS: There is a washing machine for your laundry. Just hang it out to dry on Australia's iconic Hill's Hoist out the back. An iron is provided and that yellow step stool is a depression era ironing board! Tilt the back and lock. . Its small but darn cute and does the job. Make sure to use the cover provided though. HOTHAUS For Heating & cooling, there is a split system reverse cycle air conditioner in the Rhino Rhoom, gas space heaters in the living room and studio and a portable personal fan for your comfort. We spurn the 50 cycles per second electroblanky and provide instead the wholesome therapeutic British Standard Hot WaterBottle for winter aches chills and loneliness. ROARHAUS: With bus stop and post box right out the front, Redhaus is convenient and accessible precisely because it is on the main highway into Castlemaine from Melbourne. Traffic is sedate but constant letting up only in the wee hours. Fabulously tho its just 1.2 km to two handmade markets in both directions, and barely a few steps further to reach the town hub, wine bars, cafes, art galleries , cinema and supermarkets. 5 km will get you to an idyllic natural bathing spot at the reservoir take Sutton Grange Rd from Chewton, it shows up on gps maps. PARKINGHAUS Off street uncovered parking is available and can accommodate 2 vehicles easily. Additional parking in the street is also available. Avoid crabapple shade tho as fruit will drop on yr car! Partyhaus: PARTYHAUS of a social or cultural nature are welcome with an upper limit of 12 people (or more by prior arrangement). See house rules for more details. ~ ~ ~ I know you will love the community and values in historic Castlemaine and the special vibe at Redhaus Artist Cottage & studio. Zebronky the zebra donkey says "Come and stay!".
Castlemaine is a creative community loads of artists, hipster trendy tree-changers yet still with a small town feel. The locals are likely up early doing yoga, feeding animals, plying a building trade or commuting down to a Melbourne office job. But there is lots of community, social capital, grass roots ethical endeavours, art events including a state festival, and history preserved in this first iconic goldrush town. Australia's labour movement began here as did the fated expedition of colonial dumbfucks, Bourke & Wills. (Today we honour the traditional custodians and their elders past, present and emerging, and look forward to an age when we listen more closely to their sage advice!) Swim in the reservoir, try Henry's local cider. Artisan treats. Markets. Bookshops. Antique and Horsey business. Gold detectors and offroad cyclists rove the mineshaft-speckled bushlands in their respective uniforms, lol, oh and we're famous for vintage custom Hot Rods, tooth-cracking candy and bacon. An idiosyncratic mix.
  • I loved this place. Quirky and comfortable. No tv , but we didn’t miss it, we listened to the radio, we got to chat, read and sit on the porch with a gin and tonic. I would stay here again definately. Mary

  • Awesome stay as per usual in Indijas‘s rustic cottage

    Eoin2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Redhaus is not your average holiday rental, all wipe-clean surfaces and put together with an Allen key. It's stylish and welcoming and deserves to be a local attraction in its own right. Indija's warm and wild touches - all those rhinos! - make it a truly memorable stay.

    Robyn2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Redhaus has so much character. The queen bed and day bed are so comfortable and we loved all the art work around the place. The front porch is a fantastic spot to watch the world go by. Indija left notes around the place to highlight the special touches that she provides for guests. Would come back here again for sure.

    Jane2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Indija's place is a wonderful space. Filled with wonderful art and a lovely energy. Highly recommend Redhaus for its location to Castlemain and the surrounding areas. Hope to come back again.

  • This is an old house that functions quite well and is thoughtfully and quirkily decorated. We loved it. If however you are a reality tv real estate obsessive maybe not for you.

    Brian2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • A very artistic and unique rustic house. Creaky floorboards and quirky paintwork add to its charm - this house has its own personality. Very comfortable, well located and great communication from the host.

Situated in tranquil bushland, just 7 minutes by car from the vibrant township of Castlemaine, this warm and inviting solar-powered mud-brick cottage is just the place to relax and unwind. Discover the local wildlife and treat yourself to peaceful bush walks.
In the early mornings and evenings you may see kangaroos grazing. There are also many different bird species including kookaburras, cockatoos and rosellas. For coffee lovers and ardent shoppers, Castlemaine, Daylesford and Hepburn Springs are all within easy reach.
Campbells Creek is unique to the central goldfields region. On your way through the bushland to the cottage you'll see shallow mines dug in the gold-rush days. The post-office is a 2 minute drive or a 20 minute walk. Stop in for a browse at Book Heaven on the main road into Castlemaine if you’re a book lover.
  • Anne’s place is beautiful and cozy. Snuggled into the forest with lots of wildlife to see. We loved everything about our visit and plan to come back soon! Especially loved the fireplace and outdoor seating in the garden.

  • So. Beautiful. Nice and close to Castlemaine, but feels isolated and separate to the world. Really lovely, useful condiments (loaf of bread, eggs, butter, coffee etc) and an immaculate place. Gorgeous views to the bush from every room. Can't fault it. Will return.

    Manda2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Anne's place is a beautiful getaway - gorgeous accommodation that feels like you're miles away from anywhere when you're inside, but is less than ten minutes from town. A true sanctuary.

My place is close to public transport, the town's centre, and here is bushland for walking just a few streets away. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travellers. Spring has been amazing in Castlemaine as it has been all around in this part of the world.
My place is a family home. Shared living spaces, private bedroom and bathroom,
I live in a reasonably quiet neighbourhood close to the centre of town. Guests generally comment on the quiet at night.

  • We were warmly welcomed by Henri, who gave us a thorough explanation of everything in and around the house and the local area. He was a perfect host - pleasant, helpful, knowledgeable and very easily contactable - going out of his way to make sure everything was ok during a local power cut. We take great care over our research before booking any accommodation, so our expectations are high. The standard of accommodation was so good that it exceeded our expectations. It's a great base for exploring this part of the Victoria gold fields. Highly recommended.

An historic free-standing building on our 12 acre property "Claremont" (c.1857), the Garden Cottage has been fully renovated to offer a unique place to stay in beautiful, peaceful and historic surroundings. The accommodation is totally private, with a queen bed, en suite bathroom and basic food preparation facilities (fridge, microwave, toaster and kettle). It has a split system for heating and cooling. The Garden Cottage is approx. 3.4 km to the heart of Castlemaine township, and is only a short walk to the lovely Botanical Gardens.
With an old world atmosphere, quiet and private, the cottage is about 15 metres from the Claremont homestead itself in acres of lawn, garden and bush.
On the edge of Castlemaine town, next to the botanic gardens, set in history, surrounded by bush, what more could you ask for?
  • The pictures don't do this cute and quaint little place justice. It's small but was perfect for our overnight stay. I sat outside in the late afternoon to read a book and look over the bushland. We turned on the gas heater at night and it cast a romantic glow across the room. Highly recommended.

Great 50's weatherboard in Castlemaine with a brand new bathroom (hello double shower!), kitchen with huge stainless steel cooker and room for the whole family. Smart TV, NBN wifi, two big bedrooms and an office with sunroom with extra double bed and fold out sofa bed in the family room. A couple of A/C's keep things cool in summer. The Castlemaine-Maldon steam train runs past the (work in progress) back yard which is like being on platform 9 and 3/4's when the Hogwarts Express goes past.
The yard is still needing some work, basic and neat.
Handy to the Campbells Creek Walking Trail in both directions which is replete with wallabies, amazing birds and reportedly platypus in the gorgeous Campbells Creek.

Nestled on the outskirts of Maldon in the old gold-mining valley lies my childhood home; if peace & tranquillity is what your looking for my mud-brick house ticks all the boxes. Offering two acres surrounded by native bush, off a gravel road, with no traffic to speak of, you will have unparalleled privacy and open space. The place backs directly onto a state forest, you will have no disruptions other than the plethora of natural wildlife that calls itself home in and around our property.
Our house was built in the 1980's with a mixture of handmade mud-bricks, all second hand timbers & environmentally friendly materials. For the kids: 2 sets of footy goals 30 metres long, table tennis table, totem tennis, cricket gear, small portable soccer goals, baseball, bocce, you name it, we've got it! We have a huge collection of old board games easily over 100+ for both the kids and adults. Pets welcome, but be aware there are no fences, they must be restrained if they wander as sheep are close by. We have a stretcher and an additional mattress if you require more than four people staying, we just need to be notified first. We have a barrel for outside fires along with camping chairs, just be aware of the total fire ban days and do it in a safe manner. We have a two person hammock located between two trees on the property also. Internet should be ready from November 16th onwards, until then reception is perfectly fine so you will be able to get any work done/still take calls if need be.
Maldon is historically and architecturally significant as a remarkably intact gold-rush era town. Originally, Maldon was surveyed in 1854, following the Tarrengower gold-rush of 1853. Seventeen separate reefs were discovered in the immediate area, and in the following five years the population reached 20,000, with possibly 2000 Chinese. The town had over 400 buildings including 20 hotels. By the time mining ceased in 1926, more than 12 million pounds worth of gold had been produced from the numerous mines surrounding the township. Maldon boasts that it is largely unchanged since the 1850s, and has attracted considerable interest from tourists for its 19th-century atmosphere. Maldon is also historically and socially significant as the first entire town in Australia to be declared 'historic', and worthy of preservation.
  • This place was so delightful. Cuter and more authentic than the photos suggest. It's rustic and simple, but full of charm and warmth.

  • This gem in the bush is a delightful place to stay. Lots of bird life and other animal residents. I took both my dogs with me and they enjoyed it too its a great place for pets. So many indoor and outdoor activities for children and adults. Great walking trails and scenery. I was able to relax almost immediately. The orchestra of subtle bush noises is a real blessing for one’s inner peace. I will be back. Thank you.

  • Staying here is like stepping back in time to when life was simple and its just you, the wildlife and the stars. We had a great time walking through bushland, chilling on the patio and hammock, and playing the nostalgic boardgames from our childhoods. Just a note that this really is rustic so if you dont think youll be comfortable sharing your space with a few critters it may not be for you. It was a perfect place to switch off and it felt like we were hundreds of kilometres away from Melbourne.

  • Great place for a getaway from the city :) Thanks Sam

  • This was the perfect house and location for taking some time out of our busy city lifestyles. Stepping inside, we were met with a feeling of warmth. It is clear that this house has a lot of special memories and the host has made sure his guests feel that as well. For dinner we went to the Maldon Pub, and got a meal in the historical town centre. The rest of the night was spent polishing off a bottle of wine whilst doing a puzzle in front of the fireplace. We are very thankful to Sam for offering such a great experience, it was a nice change to be able to bring our dog along as well. His house has a lot of charm and character and we are looking forward to our next trip to Maldon. Thanks Sam!

  • TRANSPARENT REVIEW: Prior to this trip we were just craving a little R&R. Perhaps it was a little too much phone time/ work or not enough nature. Any-who, we weren’t quite sure what we needed but we knew that we needed to go somewhere. We’ve been to Daylesford before and appreciated its proximity to Melbourne, and don’t get me wrong, we like Daylesford... but we were looking for something a little less “expected” and a bit more holistic. The price was significantly more respectful than other properties, and we made the leap to check it out. Driving through the town we were already kind of taken by how quirky it was (There’s a really awesome little French bakery with great pastries and croissants but get there early for those). We walked through the town and stopped at IGA to grab some stuff for the house. As you might already know and expect, it’s pack in, pack out. Because of the house’s proximity to dense nature you’ll want to bring all your food items since the previous person staying there must take everything with them because of the possibility of little friendly bush mice if not (so that means olive oil, salt etc.). We actually cooked at home every night, and bought a ton of cheese from the French bakery for the last night. Upon driving up, I probably didn’t appreciate the house as much as I did after spending 30 minutes inside of it. But note- this is a home that people grew up in. It has heart n soul and history. It’s what made us fall in love with it. That and the fire. It was quite chilly weather when we were there so it made it so incredibly cozy to get to have a fire in the living room. We took lots of pics and even threw a beautiful video together from the experience. After we left (though we were sad to) we stopped through castlemaine to the hardware shop and bought a fishing rod/ bate and spent a few hours at a really special lake close by. All that to say- the house was exactly what we needed. We came back to Melbourne “whole” compared to how we were when we left the city.... goes without saying we’re going to return to this special little place in Maldon. :) Thank you Sam!

  • We loved our stay in SallyRose's cute little home. The place was super clean and comfortable, stocked with quality products and included many thoughtful touches. The location was perfect for us- just a short walk from the Botanical Gardens and The Mill (which houses a brewry, bakery, cafe and much more). The house is also an easy walk into Castlemaine's town centre. We loved the breakfast supplies which we cooked up to create some delicious gourmet breakfasts. We have already recommend this place to our families and are definately planning to stay there again. We highly recommend this place!

Elsie’s Cottage is an original 1960’s Miners Cottage which has been sympathetically renovated to retain it’s original features. It’s set on a large block with plenty of room for kids and pets. We also have a cubby house and swing set. Main Street is at the end of the road, an easy 10 minute stroll. There are two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other has two single beds. There is also a very comfortable queen size sofa bed. All bedding and towels are provided.
  • A beautiful cottage, was the perfect setting for our family Christmas. Very clean with thoughtful touches. Will definitely be visiting again.
