Places to stay in Howqua Hills
Historic Cottage in an idyllic setting. The cottage is only metres away from the iconic Howqua River. Unique features with absolute luxury. It is small and intimate, perfect for the romantic getaway or a fisherman's weekend.
  • Andrew’s place was outstanding, the location is so lovely being right on the river and the amenities were first class. We took our dogs who were more than welcome and they had an absolute ball. There were thoughtful touches all throughout the cottage that make for the most pleasant stay and Andrew was a lovely host. We would love to come back another time.

  • The Miners Cottage was luxurious with a lovely big spa, wood fire, and high quality linen. This was our second visit and we really enjoyed our stay again. The setting is especially lovely as it’s beside the Howqua river.

  • A stunning getaway. Your own private cottage (which is well appointed), amongst the trees and river. The Oak out the back is particularly spectacular. We will be back.

  • My hubby myself and my two doggos had the best time ever! Loved everything about the place. The cottage has this rustic look with the most gorgeous cosy room inside with jacuzzi. You can simply enjoy a glass of wine lying in your bathtub and admire the beautiful scenery from the window. The sound of the river flowing, birds chirping and the stars in the sky at night is simply priceless. Thank you Andrew for being a wonderful host and maintaining this place so well. I would love to come back:)

  • Sometimes all you need is a little luxury, a little tranquillity, the sound of running water to revitalise the soul. This wonderfully renovated historic miners cottage is a real gem; perfect for summer and winter escapes. Absolutely loved our 3 nights at River Downs - and would recommend to anyone that enjoys getting back in touch with nature with a splash of comfort and luxury

  • Such a cute little cottage in a beautiful, tranquil location. Really enjoyed our stay.

  • This cottage is just the best- it’s cozy, stylishly furnished and really well equipped, with a good kitchen, nice sheets and fluffy towels. Beautifully located by the river, the gardens are carefully cared for and the whole property is just beautiful in the most idyllic setting. You can tell that a lot of love and care goes in to care for this whole property by Andy. A perfect break from the city to just completely switch off, we just loved every minute spent in and around the cottage- by the fire; under the oak tree by the river; and taking walks in the nearby surrounds. Our dog loved her stay just as much as we did and was just so happy running around the garden exploring. Can’t wait to come back.

My place is close to Mount Buller, Lake Eildon, Victorian High Country. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, families (with kids), big groups, and furry friends (pets).
Black Horse Park is an historic property first settled in the 1850s by George and Arthur Desmond and located on 20 acres of gently undulating pasture in the prestigious Boorolite Valley of the Victorian High Country. Enriched with age old European Oaks, Elms, Poplars,Liquid Ambers' and Pin Oaks, the property is also close to Mansfield State Forest. With the property established in the 1850's, the Black Horse Park Homestead is currently undergoing extensive renovations to restore its rich and fascinating history and is also available for holiday accommodation. *We also have the recently renovated Pin Oak Chapel moved to Black Horse Park in the 1940s and originally used for stabling the horses and the Elm Cabin available for accommodation*( Please feel free to ask for more details ) The Pioneer Hut is the original kitchen that was used back in the 1850s for the Desmond family who were the founders of the property and were amongst the first Europeans to settle in the district. The building has been tastefully renovated to retain the historic feel of a bygone era and will give all who stay here a totally unique experience. A rustic stone and cast iron fireplace is the centre piece of the building and will ensure you are kept you warm and cosy. The Pioneers Hut is fully self contained and comes equipped with a convection oven / grill / microwave oven, refrigerator, all cooking dishes, utensils, crockery, cutlery etc, 32 inch flat screen TV / DVD player, heater, electric blanket, all linen, pillows, towels and has a BBQ and outside fireplace as well. Black Horse Park is centrally and ideally located; 15 mins to Mansfield township 20 mins to Mt Buller 10 mins to Goughs Bay 15 mins to Macs Cove, Howqua Inlet and Jamieson. While in the high country why not pack a picnic lunch and take a leisurely drive to the King Valley wine region, stopping at Powers Lookout along the way, it's simply breathtaking. When you arrive at Whitfield (approx. 45 mins.) you're biggest decision will be which winery to go to, there's about ten in the area...... Oh just try them all! Black Horse Park is an all year round holiday location. The area caters for: Snow skiing / snowboarding at Mt Buller, fishing / swimming at the Delatite River (just 2mins away), horse riding in Mansfield State Forest / Victorian High Country, mountain biking / cycling at the rail trail and Mt Buller ( We have bikes and helmets available for hire) four wheel driving and exploring, golf at Mansfield Golf Club or just enjoy a gourmet platter and a glass of fine local wine at one of the local wineries. Lake Eildon is only 10 minutes away so why not bring your boat, we have heaps of room to park it safely. Goughs Bay has three great concrete ramps so you can always access the lake no matter what the water level is. Besides all the usual water sport activities you should try the bars / restaurants on the waters edge, just pull up, tie up and enjoy. These are just a few of the wonderful activities on offer. If you would like to bring you're horse and ride the vast expanses of the Victorian High Country, it's on our doorstep, with endless tracks to ride you'll be amazed at the breathtaking scenery and awesome riding trails. We have excellent horse friendly paddocks and four post and rail yards with water and washing facilities and plenty of room to park the float. You don't even have to bring your own hay as we have plenty of good quality grass hay here you can buy at a very reasonable price. Your horse can stay for $10 per night or if you are unable to bring one don't worry we can arrange local horses and guides for you. During your stay at Black Horse Park, feel free to wander the property, fish for Red Fin, Rainbow trout and Yabbies or even have a swim in our large clean dam, sip on a glass of you're favourite wine, read a book or just have an afternoon nap. We hope to hear from you soon. Best Regards Rob and Helen Hart
A very quiet and peaceful rural setting to chill out and relax, or you can be very adventurous and participate in the many activities the area has to offer.
  • Beautiful place, wonderful hosts and terrific location. Right near Delatite Winery, near by some beautiful walks (like Howqua).

    Sarah2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • What an absolutely great place! Beautiful historic charm with all the modern amenities you need. Two adorable little dogs to boot :-)

    Greg2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely, secluded, character-full cabin, kitted out with all mod cons. Excellent canine welcoming committee. Great location for various activities, and close enough to the surprisingly buzzy town of Mansfield for a nice meal, a coffee and cake, or a craft beer.

    Andrew2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Peaceful and clean. A taste of country life.

    Gustav2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • The place was spotless and it had so much character. Such a special place to visit with all the home comforts you could need. I recommend spending plenty of time out on the little patio, the flowers are so pretty :)

    Abigail2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is heaven. Cosy but spacious, simple but with everything you need. It has an amazing view and fabulous hosts. It was the perfect weekend

    David2019-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • One of my favourite experiences on airbnb. The location and this little home are beautiful. The home was tidy and incredibly comfortable and warm. Close to Mt Buller (where we snowboarded) and close to Mansfield. We loved the little touches of flowers and the visits from the dogs and cat. Highly recommend staying here!

  • Andy is an amazing and friendly host, and the house and river are as beautiful as the photos show

  • Our stay at River Downs was absolutely perfect. It was a great place to switch of and spend some quality time as a family. The kitchen is superbly equipped and the house was super comfortable. The setting is gorgeous and it has a really great swimming hole. Great place to take our dog, he loved it just as much as us. We would stay again in a heart beat.

    Molly2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • Andrew was a great host, replies quickly to emails, the place was clean, tidy, quiet. Surroundings were magnificent, great place to relax and unwind. Fishing, swimming also great.

    Angela2020-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • We had the most amazing time here. The only problem was that it wasn’t long enough. The place was incredibly clean and in the most peaceful location next to the river. Andrew was an excellent host, as was Bobby the Border Collie. We are already planning our return to Riverdowns. Thanks Andrew!

    Rachel2020-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • Picture perfect! Amazing house, beautiful location and a great host who was quick to respond to any question or request. I highly recommend it!

    Lorenzo2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay exceeded our expectations. The property was stunning and you can’t get much better than waking up with a view from your bed. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a get away out of the city to relax.

    Lizzy2019-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • A charming cottage in an exquisite setting. The cottage is very thoughtfully furnished, spotlessly clean and has a lovely outlook. We had a fantastic time wandering along the river, lazing on the veranda and playing card games with the kids. I couldn’t recommend Andrew’s place more highly and we hope to come back again.

    Kylie2019-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic stay, the house is perfect for a family of 4, and the location is just spectacular, an incredible view of the river and a heap of wildlife. Thanks for having us, we will be back!

Comfortable and eclectic, this self contained one bedroom studio (one of three) has been built almost entirely from recycled and repurposed materials. Located at Alpine Ridge, in the heart of the high country and just 4 kilometres from the base of Mt Buller, it is perfectly located for exploring this pristine area throughout the whole year. The Mill Inn Restaurant is just metres away. Suitable for those who love the mountains and everything that goes with it. Studios 1 and 3 also available
The Studio has been recently refurbished. It has a kitchenette with small fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster, rice cooker, electric frypan and portable hotplate plus ample crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils. There is also a small selection of tea, coffee, hot chocolate and condiments provided. And if you don't feel like cooking, the Mill Inn Restaurant and Bar is right next door serving traditional alpine dishes and house made pasta. The rustic style bathroom contains a shower and toilet and a heated towel rail. The bedroom has a double bed with the ability to sleep an additional person on a single bed in the loft (via a timber ladder). There is a TV and DVD player and reverse cycle air-conditioning to keep you cosy in winter and cool in summer. The views are magnificent - sit out on the balcony with a glass of local wine and view Mt Buller in the distance and the abundant wildlife literally on your doorstep. Linen and towels are provided.
There is an abundance of things to do in the area. The alpine areas of Mt Buller and Mt Stirling are only a short 20 minute drive away. If you enjoy mountain biking, bushwalking, great wine and food there is plenty for you to enjoy here.
  • Perfect location for me at the bottom of the mountain and super close to local communities. Loved the studio with its little extras. The balcony was great for a home cooked breakfast. Will stay again, highly recommend. Pete was always available for any questions about the area or just for good old chat.

    Craig2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • I would certainly recommend staying at Pete’s place. From the outset, the communication was quick. The location was excellent being just out of Mt. Buller. The place itself was clean and tidy and well set out with everything you need, as evidenced in the photos. Pete gives plenty of advice on things to do in the area.

    Peter2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean and comfortable. Impressed with how much effort Pete has made to make the places part of the environment.

    Linda2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • A delightful place! The lovely renovated kitchen & bathroom was well equipped, with thoughtful touches like shampoo/conditioner, moisturizer ample dishwashing detergent etc. The entire space was peaceful and relaxing; the big glass panels and windows brings you out into the outdoors, plus there was a cute little balcony, in which parrots and a cockatoo visited daily:) The whole place was truly such a treat! Loved it! Peter was also an attentive host. One piece of advice though (& nothing to do with Peter’s lovely country studio): ensure you have Telstra up in this area, as I had zero service with Optus bar SOS! (My gf, however, who arrived a day after had full service with her Telstra) . It made it tricky for me to stay in contact with my biking friends to make final plans, & my family. I also had sporadic service on Mt Buller too when mountain biking, prompting me to finally switch over to Telstra!

    Michelle2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay. Great host. Great vacation!

    Nikita2019-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully kept studio apartments. Very clean. Stylish design. Stunning location. Much cheaper than paying mountain top prices. Studio made from recycled materials for that extra special added charm. Very tame rainbow parrot landed on balcony every night. Would definitely recommend. Perfect for cycling up Buller. Or can cycle mountain bike up and do Epic trail and finish up very close to studio. 10/10

    Simon2019-12-11T00:00:00Z
  • We loved to stay at one of Peter's studios, so close to nature with amazing views, very clean and well equipped, and what a delicious moca! Would like to come back.

  • A lovely place to stay. Looking through the window upstairs from the bed, you can see the moon rise above the trees. The sun rises just there too that gently bathes you in the morning light. Clean and well presented. Full of character, we'll definitely try to stay here again.

  • You would not guess the quirky well thought out touches this place has. We loved our stay at the loft and the comfy retro chairs to watch tv in after a hard day’s riding! A lovely place to self cater- well equipped and not far from Buller and Mansfield. Thanks Pete!

  • Pete's place is set in an idyllic spot amidst the trees and hills at the foot of Mount Buller. There is a river flowing across the road from the unit, which you can hear peacefully flowing. The unit has some really nice design touches and is a unique, clean and beautiful dwelling. Would have no hesitate recommending Pete's place.

  • Peace and quiet......and close to Mount Buller. Our family had a lovely long weekend enjoying the tranquility of the Chapel residence interspersed with trips to the snow at nearby Mt Buller, excellent cafes in Mansfield and the Delatite winery. The house is well-equipped and can provide beds for lots of people. There were 5 of us plus a 13 month-old toddler who loved the outdoor space. The open fire was very welcome in the cold but I think this would be a great place for a country stay at any time of the year

    Dianne2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • I’ve staid at the chapel with friends for a long weekend and it definitely made our weekend getaway an amazing experience. Rob is a great host, happy, friendly, easy going and he was always there to help us whit anything we needed. The place is perfect, cosy and confortable, very well decorated. The kitchen is new and complete, the bathroom as well and the beds and couches confortable. Whit inside and outdoors fireplaces, you can fine everything you need to spend a great time. It’s close to Mt. Buller and the area around has a lot to offer. The service provided is 5 stars and I will definitely recommend anyone to stay at Rob’s place. Thanks for everything Rob! Till next time!

  • A cozy home away from home, you'll love your stay here too. Incredibly comfortable beds and linen, well stocked fridge and cupboards with generous little hamper on arrival - David even lit the fire so it really was a warm welcome. Beautiful surrounding landscapes. We bought our two young girls with us and we were entertained with plenty of board games and books in the cupboard . Don't hesitate to book your stay - you will love it too.

The gardens and the pasture are very beautiful to take in. We enjoyed sitting outside and relaxing with our family as well as having our breakfast together at the dining table. Do not pass up an opportunity to visit Urrimbirra. Thank you David and Christine.

  • This place was amazing to stay in for the weekend. The instructions were very clear, good communication, the house was kept clean, bed was especially nice with an electric blanket, having a fire in the house gave it a perfect lodge like feel. There were small touches that we found very thoughtful and considerate. We'd definitely stay again. Thank you David and Christine. :)

  • You really couldn't want for anything here. They've thought of everything you could possibly need! Samantha and Kyle's place is stunning and the most gorgeous retreat for a weekend away or better still a whole week if you can! My husband and I and our dogs had a fabulous four night stay over Cup Weekend with a mixture of walks, fishing, reading books by the river at the bottom of the garden, browsing the markets in the nearby towns and bingeing on Netflix. Nodding off to sleep with the sound of the river and waking up to beautiful native birdsong was just amazing. We'll be back!

This little house is perfect for two, guests tell me the queen bed is very comfy! The sofa bed is roomy enough for one extra or a couple of kids ($20 per extra person) The house is tucked up in my backyard, it's private, but we'll be in our own home nearby for anything you may require. The house does not have an airconditioner, just a pedestal fan.
The one bedroom has the comfy queen bed, bedside tables and lamps, side table and mirror. The main room offers you a double sofa, big tv, heater, kitchenette with sink, fridge, coffee machine, kettle, toaster and microwave. The spacious bathroom has a heated towel rail, large shower, toilet and vanity. A new addition has just been completed - you now have your own deck with bbq!
The neighborhood is quiet, however it is residential therefore you may hear neighbours lives...i.e. backyard games or music.
  • A beautifully appointed space, which we would highly recommend if you are heading to Mansfield.

Private and secluded. The Hut is the perfect base for your King Valley break - adjacent to the King river, 9 km from Cheshunt and surrounded by mountains and rolling valleys.Complimentary breakfast supplies and toiletries provided.
The Hut is a quaint, small space, secluded and perfect for a private getaway.
The King Valley is becoming well known for its wineries and eateries. There are many outdoor attractions too such as Lake William Hovell,Paradise Falls and Powers Lookout.
  • Very peaceful location with comfortable accommodation. Would recommend

  • What you see in the photos is what you get, the hut is compact but spotlessly clean and very cosy with all the basic pantry supplies and a generous amount of other food goodies (best eggs we have ever tasted)

    Peter2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • The Hut was perfect and we are considering moving in full time. Small but just right for a weekend for two and the gardens are just superb. Jo is a fabulous host - there was milk bread eggs fruit and yoghurt in the fridge for us - which was just lovely. The King valley is simply one of the most gorgeous parts of Victoria and we had a fantastic time. Highly recommended!!

    Zoe2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • The Hut is fantastic Everything you want in a bush getaway! So peaceful and amazing. The beautiful touch of a fresh produce breakfast. Highly recommend. Will be heading back soon.

    Natalie2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely 2-day stay at The Hut. The breakfast items were much appreciated. It was very clean & the space, while small, was comfortable enough. The sound of the kookaburras and other birds were just a delight. The garden space is ample, but pls watch out for snakes, especially in hot weather. Jo did warn us of the occasional snake as the river is nearby. We spotted what looked like a copperhead snake near the vines. Due to the location of the Hut, there is no phone reception for Amaysim (Optus) and Telstra, which can be an issue when organising your trip, so plan which vineyards you want to visit before you arrive.

    Marjorie & Dylan2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Jo's Hut is located in one of the most picturesque parts of King Valley, vineyards, farmland and waterholes surrounded by forested small mountains. It's a short drive to the lake and a short drive to christmont, polotinis and pizzinis. The Hut is small but doesn't feel claustrophic because the windows provide beautiful views. We enjoyed reading our books out on the lounge chairs and eating meals out on the deck using the Weber. The tv (with DVD and USB options) is small but situated close to bed so it's perfectly fine for watching movies. We really loved our stay :)

    Elizabeth2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful long weekend at Jo's hut. The grounds are so beautiful, you fall asleep and wake up to the sound of thousand birds, the air is pristine, and you are surrounded by space and a lovely garden. The hut is tiny, but this mattered not one bit to us. It has everything you may need, and the fresh bread, cereals, eggs, fruit, milk, and yogurt Jo left were a real nice touch. The place is impeccably clean and very cute. Jo was an excellent host and gave us some very useful tips for treks in the area. We definitely plan to return.

Comfortable and cosy. Stay at this beautiful bungalow with terrific views of Mt Buller. It's a short walk to the main street of Mansfield with lots of cafes, pubs, restaurants and shopping. My husband and I live on the property in the main house and can be of assistance if needed but otherwise you'll be left to yourselves to soak up the views and enjoy the fire pit with a hot or cold beverage of your choice. We provide a continental brekkie including tea and coffee.
We live on a quiet street that backs onto a lovely green space that's used mainly for dog walking and people wanting to get their daily exercise.

  • Such a cool house with a beautiful relaxing view. Bathroom is amazing, little things like Bluetooth speakers, Netflix, chocolates - all add up to the best AirBnB I’ve stayed in. Will be back to relax more.

  • We are really appreciated. Everything is so perfect. Thank you so much Mark and Nathan. Hope can see you soon

  • Honestly this place is absolutely stunning! The pictures do not do it justice. A gorgeous little quiet hideaway. The attention to detail is amazing, with a large bath, great shower (sound system in the bathroom!) and a super comfy bed with beautiful views. The animals made my stay, so friendly and loving. Fantastic and quick communication from the hosts and the breakfast was a great touch. Can’t recommend this place enough, will be back!

    Colleen2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Such an amazing accommodation! Gorgeous views and very relaxing. The studio was stylish, very clean and perfect for a getaway. Mark was so lovely and very quick to respond. Puppies and kitties for cuddles if you enjoy animals!

  • Mark and Nathan provided a beautifully designed and comfortable country retreat for my partner and I. We were greeted by a small army of beautiful little cats and dogs in what felt like an indoor oasis as the entrance to our rooms. They were communicative and responsive to any questions we had. A highly recommended stay!

    Tony2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • The big drawcard of Peta's place is Pets herself, who was a great communicator and added lots of throughtful touches such as eggs from her farm. The location is second to none and the view from the terrasse over the hills just incredible.

    Mehdi2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you so much for having us Peta! We loved every minute of it! What a spot!

    Dave2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Such a lovely stay! We were greeted with warmth by Peta and (with our permission) her two gorgeous dogs. We had absolutely everything we needed and waking up and having our morning coffee sitting outside admiring the view, cows and kangaroos was definitely a highlight. Thank you so much!

    Yasmine2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Great spot close to Mt Buller. Very good amenities, some that were unexpected (like lots of hanging space). Excellent breakfast options too. Host met us and explained everything. Loved it!

    Graham2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • I had the most wonderful stay!! The view from the place is absolutely spectacular and the hosts are some of the kindest and sweet people I have ever met and their 2 dogs are really sweet too! It's a very tranquil setting and the place has everything to feel right at home. Of course, all of the wonderful activities to do in the area makes the stay even more ultimate! I stayed for a month and it was grand!!

My newly renovated, pitched roof bungalow cabin overlooks the Eildon Valley. Styled with clean lines and rich colours, Top Of The Town is perfect for couples getaway. I have recently renovated the courtyard and added an outdoor spa bath. This space is perfect for sunbathing, reading a book and enjoying the spectacular view.
My guesthouse is a one bedroom open plan studio space with a kitchenette and bathroom. The property has a great view of the valley (especially from the outdoor spa). We back onto state forest, where I regularly walk my dog through the cool mossy bush lands 50m from my back door step. .. It's really beautiful. Hikes and mountain bike tracks are a stones throw away. The courtyard is LUSH. Its a perfect spot for a morning yoga session, relaxing with a book and soaking up the Vitamin D! I have designed the space to provide guests with optimum privacy, collect the best of the morning sun and be shaded in the afternoon. I recommend sipping some delicious wine or a fruity cocktail in the sunshine or soak the night away under a million stars. It's not uncommon to see kangaroos, foxes, wombats, echidna and deer in the early morning and evening. We are a short stroll from the local swimming pool and town shops. Enjoy Lake Eildon! renown for its excellent water skiing and fishing. The Goulburn river is not to be missed. Kayaks, SUP boards and picnic boats can be hired on the lake. Take a drive up to Pinanger lookout (do not miss this - look it up) or tour Skyline road. If you are travelling from Melbourne - make sure you come via the Yarra Valley. Don't miss the Yarra Yalley world class wineries, Yarra Valley Dairy cheese is to die for and of course the Chocolate Factory. Marvel at the beauty of the mountain ash and ancient rainforest in the "Black Spur" on Maroondah Hwy. Beechworth Bakery in Healesville have delicious pies and pastries too. The space is best suits couples but can accomodate a small family or 3 adults who don’t mind close quarters via the click down sofa.
What do I love about my neighbourhood? Epic sunsets, watching the moon creep over the skyline, frogs croaking in the evening, hundreds of birds of different species and the smell of eucalyptus in the clean country air!
  • Lauren was a great host, everything was super clean! I highly recommend Eildon and THE TOP OF THE TOWN as a destination! Don't miss out the hot tub with a stunning mountain view

  • Lauren was a great host in a great location. Highly recommended.

    Damien2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic stay at Lauren’s place! The space was just as described, was clean and had everything we needed for our stay. The spa bath was great - two of us fit in easily - and the views and peaceful surroundings from outside make this place what it is. Lauren welcomed us on our arrival and was quick to reply throughout our stay. Overall we loved it and we would love to head back anytime!

    Will2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing stay at Top of the Town. It was perfect for our getaway from Melbourne and Lauren was a superb host who gave us lots of local knowledge. The outdoor spa was also great as a cool off on the hotter days we had while in Eildon. Highly recommend.

    Amy2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Top of the town was amazing, we loved our stay so much and the main reason was the service we got from Lauren, she was amazing and not only was she amazing but the view was incredible and the place was clean, nice and cosy! We were in the most perfect location as well. We will definitely be back. Thanks Lauren!

Howes Creek Town Hall is a historic Mechanics Institute, 15 Minutes from Mansfield, 5 minutes from Goughs Bay (Lake Eildon) and 45 minutes from the top of Mt Buller. The B&B has a separate entrance, with a loft bedroom and open plan kitchenette and living room. Our property is surrounded by hundreds of picturesque acres of farmland, hills and mountains. It is a still, breath of fresh air away from hectic city life. Gaze at the stars as you drift off to sleep and wake up and listen to the birds.
We are a young family who strive towards balanced work/ life commitments and who are striving towards a more self sustaining lifestyle. We have a large veggie garden, bake our own bread and are learning the art of preserving. There are fantastic local restaurants and great outdoor recreation activities close at hand (mountain biking, skiing, boating, paddling, hiking, rail trail or just enjoying the local surrounds)
Howes Creek farm is a lovely little farm just down the road that serves simple food and wine. They are doing dinners on a Friday night but be sure to book.
  • Suzanne and Paul’s place was lovely. They were communicative hosts and we had all the info needed. The apartment was clean and well equipped. As the host’s house shares a wall with the apartment, I did get woken up by the sound of them walking up/down the stairs in the morning so if you’re a sensitive sleeper (I am) then I’d suggest earplugs!

    Louise2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely quiet place in the woods. Everything that we needed was provided including milk and coffee (Nespresso machine). We would definitely stay there again if in the area.

    Tu2018-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Simple yet exactly what we were after for a night while visiting the snow. Everything was as described and it was very cheap! The room was small but had a good little heater. Could use a lick of paint and some sheets that don't reseble me childhood sheets....but they were very clean so no complaints at all. Its right in the middle of the main street, right near a supermarket and bakery, perfect. We had a meal in the bistro and it was quite good, the wings were awesome, perfectly cooked. We stayed on a Tuesday night and it was fairly quiet, suited us. Would definitely stay again.

If you prefer, grab book and relax on the deck or take a wander through the state park. In the evening, light the fire and relax under the stars.
Just 25 minutes drive to Mansfield and approximately 45 minutes to the bottom of Mt Buller and Mt Stirling, altitude nine six one is ideally located for a relaxing break in the Victorian High Country while providing easy access for day adventures such as skiing, cycling, horse riding, 4WDing, wine tasting and much more. altitude nine six one is a self-contained, 3-bedroom cabin, sleeping up to 7 people (maximum 6 adults - top bunk is suitable for children only). The cabin has wood heating, a well-appointed bathroom and kitchen, and laundry facilities. Towels and linen are provided. There is also a Weber barbeque and outdoor dining table to enjoy al fresco dinner and drinks, a fire pit and undercover parking for two cars. altitude nine six one is off grid – solar power and rainwater tanks provide your electricity and water, with gas bottles for hot water and cooking. We do ask that guests be mindful of their power and particularly their water usage during their stay. WiFi is available but mobile reception can be patchy (Telstra is usually ok). We love dogs! altitude nine six one is pet friendly. Although the property is not fenced, there is a secure yard at the back of the house to keep your furry friend safe and sound while you’re out, and plenty of space for them to explore!

  • Altitude 961 was just beautiful! We had the most amazing time and our dogs loved it even more! Luke and Meagan were incredibly quick at responding and made the whole trip very easy and relaxing. We’ve already started talking about our next visit!

    Kayla2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely beautiful part of Victoria- Altitude 961 is quite isolated (Tolmie Tavern good for meals) but a beautiful space. The wood heater is amazing. The house is powered by solar so there are limitations on use of electricity and because of tank water there are limitations on use of water which are all workable. It is a great pet friendly listing although for domestic pets senses will be in overdrive with the wonderful native animals and bird life around.

  • Nice idyllic location at the bottom of Mount Buller. Hosts were very responsive. Cottage was in an immaculate condition. Very cosy and well equipped. Breakfast items such as toast, coffee, tea, butter, muesli, milk were provided. No wifi which was a great relief from the daily chasing of emails and phone calls.

    Klaus2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Sweet little place set amongst beautiful nature

    Emma2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • Clean home with all the amenities you need for a trip to buller! highly recommended

    Jeremy2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • When we arrived the fire was cranking, the lights were on and felt at home. Breakfast was awesome. It served our purpose as it was only 25 min drive up the hill, we beat the traffic and ready to ski/board for first lifts. It was also $350 cheaper then staying on the mountain. Can't wait till next year.

  • Had an great time at this place. Beautifully maintained garden and only a short drive from town where we went to a local people pizza place that easily rivals anything in Melbourne. Host was easy to communicate with and all amenities as listed available.

    Joe2019-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • We would highly recommend Gayle’s place to anyone looking for a beautiful country stay in an idyllic garden setting. The unit is very spacious and comfortable with everything you need in the kitchen. Ww loved the koala visiting in the gumtree outsider the unit as well as all the bird life. Make sure you visit “The Oven Bakery” at Cheshunt for the wonderful food and wine.

My place is close to Mansfield with its plentyful facilities such as eateries, zoo, botanical gardens, regular markets and festivals; Mt Buller and Mt Stirling ski fields, Lake Eildon and the King Valley close by. • Great location, very much feel at home, living spaces are massive and a really comfortable bed. Lots of luxurious touches and the provisions for breakfast are enough to almost make them last you all day. A quality accomodation in a really peaceful setting

    Geoff2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful country setting, close enough to Mansfield to be handy but far enough away to feel like you're no where near civilization! The hosts Colyn, Peter and their pup Polly are lovely to deal with and couldn't do enough to help. I would go back again in a heartbeat.

    Stuart2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • We have just spent 5 days in one of the nicest Airbnb’s we have stayed in. Colyn left generous provisions for breakfast and added many other special touches throughout the cottage for our enjoyment. We enjoyed our daily chat with Colyn and Peter, (along with their beautiful young Labrador pup Polly), who gave us great advise on what to do in the area. The cottage overlooked a dam with surrounding rolling hills. It was so peaceful enjoying breakfast out on the back deck each morning, listening to the birds. Air conditioner appreciated on 2 of the very hot days. Close to town centre, has everything you need. We highly recommend this place to stay, you won’t be disappointed.

    Kim2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • We spent the weekend at Middle Camp and were blown away by the location, hospitality and gorgeousness of the cottage and all it had to offer. It was sparkling clean with generous breakfast and amenities. I highly recommend this stay.

    Michelle2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great little place with all the amenities you could possibly need. Very cosy and comfortable, with an outstanding shower. Very friendly and accomodating host.

    Emlyn2019-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful home, inside and out. Country at its best. Wonderful host, great provisions, although so many good options for food in town we found it hard to choose between eating in or out (we did a bit of both). Colyn is a gracious, warm host and hope you get to experience this lovely space.
