Places to stay in Hawnby
This property is a beautifully renovated former salt house, situated in an idyllic rural landscape. The house has a wood burning stove for cosy nights and a self enclosed garden should you wish to bring a well-behaved pet. Come and explore Yorkshire!
The Salt House has had various uses - it was originally used for salting and storing bacon. In more recent years it has been a coal shed and then a children's play house before conversion to living space
We are ideally located for driving to York, Ripon and Harrogate. Whitby and the North Yorkshire coastline is about an hour and a half drive away with several stately homes closer to hand. There are local walks to explore and some excellent village pubs within a four mile radius.
  • Our second stay here and loved it just as much as the first, would definately reccomend

  • A lovely welcome and a comfortable cottage with all the necessary amenities. Beautifully clean and quiet in the rural surroundings. Judith and Simon made us feel very welcome and were most helpful. The freshly baked bread was a thoughtful touch too. Would thoroughly recommend this accommodation.

  • Excellent cottage. Warm, clean and very comfortable. The bread, eggs, jam, butter and milk was a lovely extra and very enjoyable. The views from the cottage were beautiful on the lovely frost mornings we had during our stay. We were glad to have the log burner to keep us warm while relaxing watching TV. Thank you we will definitely be back!

  • A beautiful little hideaway with a lovely log burner to make it even cosier. Beautifully clean with everything you need plus little extras on arrival like fresh homemade bread and fresh eggs milk and jam which was very handy as the salt house is quite rural. My wife and I and our dog had wonderful walks and a peaceful stay

    Dennis2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • The Salt House is a beautifully tranquil place to spend a weekend, and we feel fully refreshed after our stay. The homemade bread, jam and eggs were a lovely touch, and the fire was just perfect :D We cannot recommend staying here enough, a little slice of heaven. Thank you again! x

A secluded getaway. Night life only extends to the twit twooing of the owls. Nestled into the forest with a beck trickling by. It's perfect for those wishing to log out and explore the countryside on foot. Tons of walks including a gorgeous 4 mile round walk taking in 11th-centuary Rievaulx Abbey ruins and a cup of tea at the cafe along the way. The chocolate box town of Helmsley is just five miles away with walled garden, castle ruins, shops, restaurants and amenities.
A self contained unit with a spacious bedroom, bathroom opening through French doors on to a private deck and garden at the back. A small but well equipped kitchenette with a gas hob/oven, fridge and sink shares he entrance with a dining/sitting area. The cottage is situated next door to the host, who are on hand to help. DAB radio with aux, DVD library and wifi running at typically rural speeds.
Located on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park makes our cottage ideal for exploring the local breathtaking scenery, beautiful old market towns of Helmsley and Thirsk and picturesque villages such as Rievaulx. Perfect for visiting the historic sites of Rievaulx Abbey and Helmsley Castle as well as our modest but beautiful 1100AD Church in Old Byland. The cottage is located in an utterly idyllic and secluded part of the world, really you won't believe your eyes.
  • Lovely stay surrounded by nature. Perfect for a get away from it all. Hosts very welcoming and helpful. Description of property accurate. Comfy and cosy.

  • What a fantastic place couldnt recommend enough! Peace and tranquility at its peak!!

    James2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Such a cute little place with beautiful surroundings. Lots of cute local things to do and Katy’s place is a fantastic little place to retreat to! Myself, husband and two border collies had a fantastic stay :)

    Jess2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We would thoroughly recomend staying here. It's set in a very remote, peaceful area. A beautiful brook running through the back garden, what more could you ask for. If you're looking for a relaxing break with some beautiful walks and scenery nearby, you'd struggle to find somewhere that ticks as many boxes as this does. Coupled with the fact that you have two wonderful and attentive (but not intrusive) hosts on hand in Katy and Skot. All in all, a wonderful place to visit, relax, unwind and recharge the batteries. We'll be back in the summer, when mother nature is a little less cruel lol.

    Andy2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is absolutely beautiful and in a really gorgeous location. My partner and I loved sitting in the armchairs in front of the big French doors, admiring the scenery and listening to the stream. The cottage is remote enough that you can really settle into nature, but there are also plenty of shops, pubs, cafes etc nearby if desired! Katy and Skot were such warm, friendly hosts and they made us feel so welcome. Katy knows the local areas well and provided some lovely recommendations for nearby cafes / restaurants. We would 100% recommend a stay here to anyone, and really hope to come back again ourselves to experience its beauty in the summer :)

    Hannah2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • What a gorgeous and tranquil location off the beaten track! It was so nice listening to the stream whilst falling to sleep accompanied with the odd hoot of an owl. The cottage was sparkling clean and well stocked of the essentials, it was cosy and warm even during a colder month like January. The hosts were very thoughtful and considerate and we couldn’t have asked for anything more.

    Sam2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Such a wonderful stay- couldn’t have asked for anything more. Cosy, comfortable and amongst wildlife. If you need a break or peaceful getaway, this place is for you.

    Lydia2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • A very remote location so perfect for hiking, stargazing, and exploring the beautiful surrounding towns. We went in winter and still had a gorgeous time, we made a fire pit which warmed us up! They were lovely hosts and went out of their way to get us what we needed. They also had a very cute dog & baby :) will be going back here!

A peaceful, warm and comfortable converted barn situated within the North Yorks Moors National Park with the Coast to Coast, Cleveland Way and other walks from the doorstep. The cottage is semi detached to our farmhouse with it's own private garden, shed with barbecue area and small wood giving complete privacy.
We are in a very peaceful location with an abundance of wild and bird life, dark skies and open views. There is a large unfenced pond to the front of the cottage, children must be supervised at all times. Access to the cottage is via a farm track, not suitable for very low cars.
We are close to The Wainstones, popular for climbing, and are a short drive from beautiful moorland villages, the North Yorks steam railway, Castle Howard, Fountains and Rievaulx Abbeys and the spectacular North Yorks Moors. The coastal towns of Whitby, Saltburn and Robin Hoods Bay are also very popular.. We are a haven for walkers with the Coast to Coast, Cleveland Way and numerous other walks accessible from the doorstep. The pretty town of Stokesley is six miles away with numerous pubs, restaurants, cafes and shops.
  • My second stay here and I enjoyed it just as much as the first time. Spotlessly clean and comfortable, stunning views and really peaceful.

    Janet2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Super place to stay with everything I needed. The cottage was warm and welcoming with parking directly outside. Long drive up but I had no problem at all in my car. I particularly enjoyed watching the birds on the feeder in the morning and was lucky enough to spot a woodpecker!

    Janet2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • What a marvelous find, a clean, extremely comfortable self contained cottage in a beautiful part of the North Yorkshire Moors. We love the countryside and the cottage provided a delightful retreat with great views, an abundance of wildlife and walking trails right on the doorstep. The cottage wants for nothing, it is clean, bright and airy and contains everything you are likely to need whilst on holiday. The friendly owners live right next door and although non intrusive they are there if you have problems or need anything.

The Old Stable is in the mature grounds of a family home situated in the heart of Ampleforth' s historic East End. We are up on a hill with lovely views across the valley. The Old Stable has an open plan living space downstairs and spacious double bedroom upstairs. We are a 3- minute walk away from two lovely pubs, excellent Café and our well stocked local shop. Your hosts live in the main house next door so are usually around to offer any help or give advice on the local area.
The Old Stable comprises of a snug Sitting Room downstairs with freeview TV and very comfy sofa and a Dining area that comfortably seats four people. There is also a small but practical Kitchen area that contains a sink, microwave, toaster, fridge/freezer and tea/coffee etc. There is a bathroom on the ground floor that contains a shower and loo. Upstairs is a spacious double bedroom with a beautiful view, there is also a day bed available in this bedroom for those guests wishing separate beds. We also offer off-road parking. The Old Stable is within easy walking distance, via a little lane, to Ampleforth Abbey. For keen walkers, from the house you can also walk, via public footpath, to Gilling East which has an excellent pub for lunch or dinner. We are located in the North York Moors National Park which means a short drive in the car will take you to Helmsley where you can join the Cleveland Way walking trail, visit Helmsley Castle and the beautiful Walled Garden. Sutton Bank is only ten minutes away for mountain biking or to watch the Gliders taking off. Idyllic Hovingham, a 10-minute drive away, holds an excellent monthly food market. We are surrounded by wonderful places to dine out here such as in the villages of Olstead and Harome, which are each a short drive away.
  • Lovely stylish converted stable in the grounds of a beautiful house. Lucy was a fantastic host, very welcoming and easy to get on with. Would happily stay again.

A cosy shepherds hut on a working hill farm, in the beautiful North York Moors National Park. Simply sit, relax, watch the birds and admire the view or explore the surrounding area. Walk from the hut or one of the local famous walks such as Cleveland Way, Wainstones, Roseberry Topping. Helmsley and Stokesley are lovely little market towns to explore or Whitby and York both within an hours drive. We only have one hut, so there is no sharing of facilities and the area is very private.
The hut is traditionally made, beautifully decorated with a wood burner for those chilly nights. Plenty of outside space for parking, sitting out, having a BBQ or campfire.
We are in a rural location, the nearest market town for food supplies and petrol are Helmsley and Stokesley both 10 miles from the hut.
  • Lovely stay at Fionas place, view is spectacular and it’s lovely to hear the birds chirping and seeing the chickens and pheasants roaming around. Just what we needed- a nice relax.

    Karen2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommended escape from the stresses of life. Amazing little space with everything you need in a peaceful location literally perfect 👌 ❤️

    Michelle2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • The location of this hut is outstanding, the hospitality shown was amazing, the hut was so cosy and had everything we needed, would recommend this stay very highly you will not be dissapointed it has everything, and is incredibly relaxing due to its location.

    Helen2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful shepherd’s hut, delightfully decorated, in a stunning location. Perfect for a peaceful escape to the countryside. Having stayed in a few huts, this was the best one yet. Full review below: The Hut It is such a wonderful use of space and feels spacious but cosy. The hut itself has a really good sized bed (king?), a table and chairs to sit and look out at the beautiful view and a log burner (already set up when we arrived) which heats the space up really quickly. There are also fan heaters and electric radiators. Our stay was in February, during a bad storm, and we were warm and comfortable throughout. The bed is really comfy. The finishing touches make it such an enjoyable environment to stay in. The Kitchen and Bathroom Annex This is a great idea. It’s separate to the hut itself, but you can get into it through a door. It’s a big space, with all you need for basic food and drink needs. This area can get a bit cold but there is another electric heater and you can get it warm quick enough. The bathroom is very nice. The shower doesn’t get really hot but it was more than comfortable and no complaints whatsoever. Having the separate area is a great idea and allows the hut itself to be left as a really cosy space. The Host Fiona was fantastic with her communication. She allowed us to check in much earlier and there was no pressure at check out, with us taking a little longer to exit. Really lovely welcome and great information about the hut and farm. Extras There was tea, biscuits and milk waiting for us on our arrival. The log burner has plenty of kindling, fire lighters and wood readily available. Towels were very good. All in all, highly recommended and would definitely stay here again.

  • We were not disappointed with our lovely stay. Owletts is just perfect , the attention to detail is so good you just cannot fault it. It was warm and cosy the bed linen was soft and beds super comfy. The kitchen worked well for our lazy breakfasts. The village pubs are great and so close it's a dream. We will be going back as there is so much to explore. Thank you to our wonderful hosts!

  • Lovely comfortable cottage very clean. Thoughtful hosts and the area has wonderfull walks and great pubs.

    Sandra2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We booked last minute with our two young children, super happy to find something so nice at short notice. The cottage is beautifully done, all brand new, stylish with bags of character and absolutely spotless. Lots of thoughtful touches from Anna & Reece like milk, muffins, logs and even wine! Luxurious bedding and fluffy towels provided, even TVs in both bedrooms (to the kids delight!). Stove kicked out so much heat it was glorious. Could have easily stayed a week. Really nice village with a lovely pub a 5 min walk away. Can't thank the owners enough for being so welconing, will definitely be back again if you'll have us 😀

    Victoria2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Anna & Reece’s cottage is everything you could want & more for a relaxing stay in the peaceful countryside. We arrived late in the evening unexpectedly thanks to traffic. But yet we were still greeted by a very welcoming Reece, who had popped the heating on for us ready for our arrival which was very much appreciated after a long cold drive. Inside is the most immaculately sparkling clean cottage, but still has a very cosy feel to it. We had all the amenities we could have possibly needed and more. Outside the cottage are plenty of countryside walks, Reece also recommended a nearby pub which served excellent food. You are also in driving distance of York. We couldn’t recommend The Owlets more, and we will definitely be back to stay again!

    Zac2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • The Owlets has been beautifully converted with great style. Lovely and cosy and well equipped.

    Jane2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Anna and Reece are brilliant hosts, nothing was too much trouble. The Owlets is sparkling clean and a real gem to have found ! This has been our second visit will definitely be back for a third ! Thank you

    Claire2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • The Owlets is a gorgeous spot and such a great base for exploring the local area. We didn't want to leave!

  • Lovely and stylish accommodation with character. Anna and Reece were very welcoming. When they had an issue with their boiler it was fixed so quick that without the updates they gave us we wouldn’t have even known they’d had a problem. Exceptional! Don’t hesitate to book.

The room is spacious and south-facing within a comfortable home on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. The house occupies a central position, two minutes walk from the local shop, a cafe and two excellent village pubs. There is also a leisure centre and playground in Ampleforth, and York is only 40 minutes away. Local attractions include Sutton Bank for biking and gliding; Castle Howard, the ruined abbeys of Reivaulx, Byland and Fountains, plus the bustling market town of Helmsley.
Our home is warm and welcoming, and the spaces generous as this is an old house built before 1745. The main hall is attractive with a french dresser and the bathroom is well thought out with natural stone tiles and is also fairly spacious. Outside is a beautiful terrace which enjoys full sun. The guest-room has been modified to include a kitchenette so guests can enjoy the benefits of a microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster and work station. • We were already excited to stay here after reading the reviews and seeing the photos but we were still so much more impressed when we got here - the location is perfect, the house is sparkling clean and so nice!Keith and Melanie made us feel at home so much and the personal touch with the sign for our anniversary and rose petals upstairs were such a lovely extra touch! We walked to the Fairfax Arms after it was suggested and it was a lovely walk and not too far! The hot tub was the icing on the cake, with the fairy lights and looking out into the woodland - it was the perfect atmosphere for a getaway! Definitely recommend - I’ve already had friends ask me for the name of this place after seeing photos - we would absolutely return again! :)

We will most definitely be staying again.

Cotters House is a quaint cottage located in the Magna Carta village of Topcliffe. The space is cosy but large enough to comfortably fit four, with many amenities provided. The cottage has been refurbished to meet the needs of modern day life, with WiFi and Freeview TV, but still features traditional aspects such as exposed beams and wood floors. It benefits from central heating, instant hot water and now has a new HETAS approved wood burning stove, perfect for relaxing nights in by the fire!
Set back from the road, the cottage has a private entrance and parking space. There is a garden and patio area to the rear of the property, with a large weather proof lockable store that is ideal for safe, dry storage of bicycles/sports equipment. We provide guests with fire lighters, matches and the all important, high quality, kiln-dried logs to enjoy those cosy nights in. We also provide you with some breakfast essentials - bread, milk, orange juice, butter, jam, six eggs, cornflakes, bananas and apples.
The village is lucky to have two great pubs - The Angel and The Swan, both providing good pub grub. There is also the Crab and Lobster for finer dining, about a 10 minute walk towards Asenby, from the cottage. We are in the prime position for access to towns and cities of North Yorkshire, as well as the stunning East Coast and are close to many great cycling routes, as used in Le Grand Depart of Le Tour de France in 2014, Le Tour de Yorkshire and the UCI World Road Cycling Championships of 2019. Though we hope we will have provided amenities required, there is a Post Office shop across the road in case you require anything else. Topcliffe itself has a lot to be explored (such as a motte-and-bailey castle) and so do the surrounding areas!
  • Amazing little cottage, has everything you'd ever need. What a great little find, can't wait to stay again 🤘

  • Beautifully kept house in a stunning location, highly recommended! Just be aware that the access to the house is via a long unmade road that includes a ford.

Keeper's Lodge is located near Thirsk which is a 30 minute drive from Harrogate and York. It is located within 5 minutes of motoroway network (A19, A1). We are a small holding and have dogs, chickens and sheep and it is very quiet. We are in a great location for walkers. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, families (with kids). We also have equestrian facilities to use at an additional cost.
My space is unique as it is a hideaway. A great escape from your hectic day to day rat race. It is a place to unwind and enjoy the Great British Countryside. With Harrogate and York only 30 minutes away, it makes for a fab weekend break. The cottage is a brand new conversion built to a very high standard with all mod cons. One particularly fantastic feature is the master bedroom terrace overlooking the beautiful countryside. There are two bedrooms, one with a king size bed and the other room has a single bed with a single pull out. The two bedrooms share one bathroom upstairs and there is a downstairs toilet.
We have no neighbours, apart from sheep and chickens so it is very peaceful!
  • Beautiful place and peaceful.

  • Lovely hideaway, clean, comfortable and has everything you need. We arrived during storm Dennis and unfortunately couldn’t get out the place because of the weather to explore the surrounding area. This 5 star review should tell you everything about the accommodation. Nice and warm, enough to keep yourself entertained and as long as you stock up the fridge all the privacy you might require. Excellent!

    David2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Catherine’s cottage is lovely. It is very well decorated & has everything you need for your stay. It is very peaceful as it is on a small holding. The cottage is at the end of a half mile track which is quite bumpy,it was no problem for us but it could be for some. It is well situated for visiting the surrounding area & visiting other places. I would use again if i was in the area.

Black Bull Barn is a stylish bolthole in the village Husthwaite within easy reach of York, the North York Moors and within striking distance of Whitby, the east coast and the Dales. An ideal place to escape from everyday life for a relaxing break and to recharge your batteries.
The well equipped kitchen and dining area has a range of modern and antique units and under-floor heating. There will be tea, coffee, milk and biscuits when you arrive along with a few basic kitchen essentials. There is an oven, hob, microwave, and fridge with freezer box. The living room has oak floors, antique rugs and a mix of old and contemporary furniture. French doors take you out onto the south facing patio where you can sit in the summer and enjoy a glass of wine under the fig tree. For the colder months there is a powerful wood burning stove (the first basket of logs is included price and more are available to buy). Snuggle up on the sofa and relax with a good book, a selection of games, or watch TV. A comprehensive range of maps, local books and DVDs are kept in the housekeeper's cupboard. The downstairs shower room has underfloor heating and a powerful walk in shower. Upstairs, the beamed bedroom has a king-size bed with cotton bed linen, feather pillows, oak peg hanging rails and views over the garden and the village church.
Husthwaite is a picturesque and friendly village on the southern edge of the North York Moors and overlooking the Vale of York. There are a number of excellent restaurants and pubs in the neighboring villages including The Black Swan at Oldstead. Husthwaite has a tennis court and outside adult gym. The nearby market town of Easingwold has a good range of independent shops, a supermarket, some fabulous cafes, pubs and take-aways. This is a great area for walking and cycling and well placed to explore a wealth of attractions further afield from York to the south, the Dales to the west, the Moors to the north and the coast to the east.
  • Lovely accommodation, peaceful location, great walking and pretty villages. The tomahawk steak house is good but fairly pricey. We preferred the menu variety and cosy feel of the Falconburg arms in Coxwold. Really enjoyed the roaring fire and relaxing on the sofa bed, however it does get hot upstairs in the bedroom! Didn’t detract from our stay though. Everything worked perfectly, incredibly clean, great place. Definitely a wonderful escape in autumn.

    Candia2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very stylish and snug retreat. Facilities and welcome are excellent and we loved our stay. Very good location to explore that part of Yorkshire with friendly and helpful hosts. We would certainly book again.

    Jo2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely clean and cosy with plenty of information to explore the surrounding areas or you can just relax sitting outside on the patio.

    David2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Wow, this is one of the best places I have stayed. Sarah is lovely and so helpful recommending local places to eat, as well as plenty of suggestions how to spend your day in this beautiful part of Yorkshire. The Barn is absolutely stunning. A lovely and well equipped kitchen leads into a very cosy lounge with log burner and subtle lighting. Upstairs is a spacious bedroom with a fabulously comfortable bed and crisp clean linen from the White Company. The bathroom is spotless with a good powerful shower. Outside is a relaxing seating area where you can enjoy Sarah’s well kept garden and is perfect for enjoying an early evening cocktail or some good old Yorkshire tea, which ever takes your preference. I really couldn’t recommend the Barn more highly. Husthwaite is close to a variety of Yorkshire’s quaint villages including Malton and is not far from Castle Howard and the city of York. All in all an unforgettable place to stay.

Greetings! I'm Faron, your host. Kilburn is ideally situated on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park with local landmark the Kilburn White Horse within sight from the garden. There's the Mouseman Visitors centre only a matter of yards away which has a lovely cafe inside that's open to the general public and the pub The Forresters Arms right next door. The next village along the road in Oldstead, is home to TV chef Tommy Banks' restaurant The Black Swan. There's also plenty of fabulous routes ideal for biking, hiking and exploring with the Cleveland Way only being 2 miles away. The house comes with various amenities, fibre-optic high speed broadband, a Google Chromecast stick to stream Netflix etc to the TV, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, washing machine, tumble drier, dishwasher, deep fat fryer, herbs, spices, pots & pans....oh yes and 10 hens. That's right, fresh eggs every day! Don't worry a full guide of what to do and not to do will be given if you've never looked after hens before. There's also a butcher's a short walk away so you'll never be without sausage, bacon and eggs. What's not to like? 🙂 We're dog friendly and the back garden is relatively secure as long as you don't have something tiny like a chihuahua that'll squeeze through my picket fence 🙂 Feel free to message me with any questions you might have. Faron
Picnic table, apple tree, plum tree, enclosure for the chickens and lovely south facing garden.
Laid back country village, country pub, country things.... Like cows....lots of cows... And mud. 🙂
  • The Chicken Cottage is a superb spot. Lovely peaceful cottage in an idyllic setting with stunning landscapes on the doorstep, and not far from great pubs, walks and transport links. Hard to beat waking up to the gentle clicking of hens, who kindly left us breakfast each day! Thoroughly recommend and will defo be back.

If it's a nice meal out in one of the many restaurants or pubs, or a cosy takeaway, you have Thai, Chinese, Italian, Indian and English on your doorstep. Thirsk and the surrounding area is ideal for walking and cycling, whether you are content to have a stroll or looking for something a bit more adventurous. Thirsk and Northallerton Leisure Centres offer exercise classes and swimming. There are a number of well equipped parks and play areas where the children can run off some steam, there is also a soft play centre within walking distance. Cod beck runs through the town and many children and adults enjoy fishing there, or just walking along the banks and stopping for lunch at one of the picnic areas along the way.
  • Lovely cottage, great location, really nice welcome basket

  • If you are looking for a sparkly clean, beautifully decorated and furnished, aesthetically appealing home....... This is it! The owners have thought of every eventuality and provided it! From the information pack, the myriad of utensils, the books, the games and the incredible welcome basket and card....... We were continually delighted and surprised with the efforts made to make our stay a wonderful experience. And it was..... Although located on a busy road, it is tucked away and very quiet. It is a 10 minute walk into town with lots if shops and amenities. There is a convenient shop 3 minutes walk and a leisure centre a 10 minute walk. Thirsk is an interesting and pretty town with many things to do and places to discover nearby. Plenty of walking and incredible scenery. Highly recommended.

  • Superb cottage Very clean Amazing support from the host if we needed anything Very easy to find Great value for money Absolutely 100% stay here again in the future

  • Don’t hesitate to book this lovely accommodation. I’m an Airbnb Superhost myself and I know what goes into making something special. This really is something above the norm and better than any other top rated places we’ve stayed in. We travel a lot for leisure and business. Graham was a thoughtful communicator and the place is a recent refurbishment and absolutely immaculate. It was decorated with luxurious Laura Ashley furnishings, high quality bedding, cutlery and crockery. Even the carpet was thick and cosy. The attention to detail was fantastic with every thing you could need. A family of four or two couples would be very comfortable here for any length of holiday as the living room was completely separate to the kitchen. The fresh flowers and amazing welcome basket made our quick getaway a real treat. My husband was quite obsessed with the home made biscuits. You’d be pushed to find anywhere both nicer than this and better value than this anywhere in England. We didn’t meet the hosts although we were staying just around the back of their home, but we’d like to say a massive thank you.

    Marylou2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • My friend and I were blown away by this place! We didn’t expect such stylish, well-equipped, classy accommodation for such a reasonable price; the quality and condition of the accommodation is outstanding. The hosts communicated well before our stay and were available in a nearby property should we need them, but were in no way over-bearing. We were staying for a restful break (and found it so easy to rest in this cosy place!) so didn’t really use the vast range of local information supplied by the hosts. Thirsk is lovely for a walk around and browse of the local shops and cafes though. It’s brilliantly located for York and other towns and villages, and the A1 is just down the road so although this is quiet and peaceful accommodation, it’s perfectly located. The cottage is beautifully decorated - a real home from home with everything you could wish for and such fantastic attention to detail. We will be back and I have already recommended The Cottage to friends and family.

Nestled between the North Yorkshire Moors and the Yorkshire Dales, our beautiful barn conversion is an ideal location to explore all that North Yorkshire offers. We are well travelled ourselves and enjoy meeting people from all walks of life and all parts of the world!
The private room is on the ground floor of the property accessible via the front porch (not used by us). The room has a double bed and a small table and chairs that can be used for breakfast. A simple breakfast will be provided. You would be very welcome to bring an infant with you and a travel cot could be provided on request. There is a small fridge and kettle available and a hair dryer. The TV has access to Sky Q with Sky Cinema, full Sky Sports package and Netflix available.
The market towns of Easingwold (4.5 miles) and Thirsk (6 miles) are within easy reach for a good selection of pubs, cafes, restaurants and independent shops. Other lovely places to visit, such as Harrogate and the market towns of Ripon and Helmsley, are also in the area. We are a 30 minute drive from the historic City of York. We are in a great location for cycling, hiking and dog walking.
  • My husband and I booked quite last minute and were really pleasantly surprised. We had our dog with us and the hosts made us feel so welcome. There were lots of useful touches such as a dog towel, home made flap jacks (delicious), both milk and water in the silent fridge. We also had a yummy breakfast waiting for us in the morning. We slept really well and had a great stay. I strongly recommend this place. Many thanks!

  • A lovely stay: clean, beautifully kept and great communication

    Fiona2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • Neil goes the extra mile with lots of extras provided. Snacks on arrival and a great breakfast selection the following morning Although there is only a bedroom it is very well equipped and spacious. Plenty of light, plugs and mirrors which is a welcome change! The bed was extremely comfortable, with a choice of pillows. The shower room is compact but the facilities are excellent. The whole place is spotlessly clean, 5 stars!

Contemporary living in a gorgeous cosy cottage in Carlton in Cleveland, a beautiful quiet village in the North Yorks Moors National Park where the horse drawn Fire engine for the village was kept in the 1800's. *With Fast Wifi* We provide Fresh milk in a glass bottle and Orange juice, seeded brown uncut loaf, ground coffee, teabags, butter and home made marmalade. No extra cleaning charges! There is a great pub in the village, The Blackwell Ox serving genuine Thai food and excellent real ales
This space is the ground floor with a bedroom, kitchen/diner and shower room/toilet. Lovely and warm with very effective and controllable central heating. The super comfortable double bed (that most guest remark on as giving a great night's sleep can be changed into 2 x Singles, if requested in advance. The cottage was originally built in about 1750 but is now fully fitted to a contemporary, modern and high standard.
This is a beautiful part of North Yorkshire, in the North York Moors National Park and also in a Conservation area. Nearby is The Blackwell Ox pub that is a great local pub serving great genuine Thai food (and British favourites) and real ales. The staff are very friendly and we are fortunate to have such a good local pub! At the top of Carlton Bank is the Lord Stones Country Park where they serve good steaks from their own cattle in The Belted Bull. There are other really good pubs serving good food locally including the superb Golden Lion at Osmotherley that is about 10 minutes drive from here. This is our favourite restaurant! There are very good shops in the nearby market town of Stokesley that is less than 4 miles away with butchers, bakers, a bank, Post Office, Co-op Convenience store and a larger Co-op on the outskirts, coffee shops, bars, restaurants and many small independent shops and even a Mirco pub the Green man! A fantastic location for walking, cycling or just as a base to tour the Moors or pop down to the coast - Whitby is only a 40 minute drive, Saltburn is just a 25 minute drive away. York is about an hour away as well as Leeds and Newcastle.
  • Great property perfect for a work or leisure trip. Nice touches including lovely cakes, fresh bread and quality juices and milk.

    Jonathan2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • From the second we arrived both John and Amanda proved they deserve the super host rating they’ve got, we’d mentioned that we were arriving quite late but when we pulled up at almost 9:30 they still made the effort to come and welcome us! The cottage was immaculate and incredibly cosy and already the heating was already on for us! The welcome pack was also incredibly useful! And the cake was spectacular! Thank you to both of you for an amazing stay and to everyone else you could not find a better place to come if you’re planning to spend some time in the area

    James2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Such a beautiful cottage in a gorgeous little village. It was a pleasure to say and would be amazing to visit again! Thanks!

    Jennifer2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect property for a work trip. Great location and a well equipped very comfortable property with a number of thoughtful touches. Amanda and John were great hosts.

    Jonathan2020-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous annex with loads of room and really well equipped. Brilliant location for getting up onto the moors quickly, as well as being reasonably close to Guisborough if you need to do a bigger shop

    Helen2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • From another review we read, we were anticipating Amanda's cake, and we were not disappointed. When we arrived, the place was clean, and we were supplied with milk, bread, marmalade, and delicious cake--all that we needed to survive for the first day or so as we recovered from jetlag and got our bearings in a new surrounding. We were there over Christmas, and on Christmas morning, John and Amanda left us a Christmas card, which made us feel so welcome and a little less homesick. The place is beautiful and the location is amazing. There is so much to do and see around the area. But, what makes the stay extra special is the care and kindness that John and Amanda give while you are there. We hope to return soon! Thank you for such a lovely stay!

    Glen2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Enjoyed my stay in the cottage. It was warm and cosy with everything I needed. The homemade cake was delicious. I didn’t have time to explore the area but there were some good suggestions of places to go which John and Amanda have put together. Perhaps next time!

Very light attic bedroom with two skylights, a double bed and a sofa. The bathroom is not quite en-suite, but is just for you and is on the same floor. The house has off-street parking, is opposite a beautiful park and is within very easy walking distance (5 mins, some cobbles) to Thirsk town centre. There is both a pub and a church nearby, though neither are loud. The house has two very affectionate cats so please do not come here if you are allergic to cats!
There is a fridge, microwave and kettle available in your room.
This is quite a quiet area of Thirsk, but is still very close to the town centre, the James Herriot museum and the Thirsk museum. There are lots of countryside walks that start almost from the house that are easy to find information on from the Thirsk information centre or online. I am well-versed on the local eateries and a local cocktail bar has opened nearby which I am making an effort to familiarise myself with.
  • We have stayed here 3 times now.. we love it. its Fantastic little place.. lovely.. private spacious attic room.. with own shower/wash room. Tea & coffee making facilities .. cereal and choc bickies are supplied too! Perfect location.. Just five minutes walk into Thirsk town centre.. for local shops, restaurants and pubs. We will hopefully be back again soon. Eve & Matt are the perfect hosts. You won’t be disappointed 👌

  • Clean, private room. Had a good night's sleep and breakfast in the morning.

    Paul2019-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • Eve's place is in an amazing location for Thirsk and the surrounding area. The attic is very spacious, comfy bed and the shower is excellent. There were lots of thoughtful touches like the chocolate biscuits and coffee bags and we loved the cute and very friendly cats! Everything is sparkling clean and she made us really welcome. I would absolutely recommend it.

    Clare2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent location in your own part of the house. Eve and Matt lovely, relaxed hosts. Great value for money.

    Kim2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Eve's a great host and the place is spot on,ticks all the boxes 👍

    Paul2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was a bit unusual, in that we (my son and I) were in Thirsk for a party, and due to a taxi mix up we actually didn’t end up sleeping at the property at all! We were in a bit of rush and didn’t spend much time there. But we wished we had. The room is as described - actually better, in that the sofa bed looks really comfortable. The location is close to the town centre. The road is not busy and the Velux windows in the room open to the back. There is tea, coffee bags (so real coffee ❤️) and granola in the room. And Eve and her partner could not be nicer or more helpful and considerate. Definitely a top bet in Thirsk.

    Nick2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was perfect, thanks for having us!

This beautiful, newly refurbished 18th century cottage sits in the heart of the lovely North Yorkshire market town of Helmsley. Close to a variety of local amenities and things to do, the house comfortably sleeps six people and provides the ideal option for a relaxing, self-catering break.
This gorgeous three bedroom cottage is the perfect spot to enjoy the bustling, charming, small town of Helmsley itself and also take in the surrounding rolling countryside of Ryedale, North Yorkshire Moors and beyond. Our home, with its welcoming feel, sits within the local community and is a place that our family love to escape to, whatever time of year. Much larger than it initially looks, this three bedroom cottage offers ample living space for six people but it is equally comfortable if you’re a couple as you can easily close off rooms and just use what you need to. At the front of the house, on the ground floor, there is a lovely sitting room with a large log burner, sofas and a tucked away TV. What ever the season this is a cosy room with its low ceilings, comfortable seating and nice lighting. That said, on cold days with the log burner roaring it really is a gorgeous space in which to unwind and relax. In addition, on the ground floor you have a downstairs loo but more importantly a beautiful, light and airy country kitchen with a dining table and a fabulous AGA Masterchef for those who like to cook; microwave, large fridge freezer and all cooking utensils. And at the rear of the house, beyond the kitchen is the conservatory. This room is again a spacious, light room with lots of seating, a log burner, so you can enjoy it on cooler days, and a TV. It works well as a second living space and, with the bifold doors at the end, opens up to be a great garden room. The long rear garden is private, enclosed and all yours. Upstairs, on the first floor, again you have low, beamed ceilings throughout. At the front there is a twin bedroom with views into the green fields of Duncombe Park, next to this is a nice double room bedroom and thirdly a bathroom with loo, bath and separate shower. And then up into the eaves of the house, there is a more private, larger bedroom with its own door at the bottom of the stairs, an adjoining bathroom with loo, sink and shower, a kingsize bed and views into the rear garden. To summarise what’s available to you in the house: Two log burners including fuel Two (brand new) showers Electricity throughout Full gas central heating Bed linen and towels included Two large flatscreen TVs DAB / FM radio Microwave Washing machine Dishwasher Large fridge/freezer Wi-Fi One travel cot One high chair Gun cabinet (lockable) Enclosed lawned garden with terrace and furniture Offroad parking at rear Welcome pack to help get you settled As Bridge Street is our home too, we ask a few things of you as guests. Firstly, and regrettably, we don't allow pets inside the property because of allergies and secondly, we ask you not to smoke anywhere in the house. Last thing: we’ve stylishly and responsibly newly refurbished Bridge Street. A lot of thought has gone into upcycling or carefully sourcing previously loved items so not everything matches but we feel this adds to the charm. Enjoy our house and the amazing Yorkshire countryside - we’ve given you tons of things to do in your guest info pack to help you get the most out of your stay.
Situated on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors, nestled in James Herriot country, Helmsley is a picturesque, bustling Yorkshire market town. Surrounded by stunning countryside, and set within a busy working farming community, this is a perfect spot for long and short walks, delicious food, sightseeing or just generally relaxed. Helmsley itself has a lot on offer. Within walking distance of the house there are nice pubs, good restaurants, deli’s and even a beautiful ruined castle to wander around, so much so that you don’t really need to leave. Some favourites of ours include Summat's Brewin, a small microbrewery & pub which provides delicious local craft beer and then around the town square there are The Feathers, The Black Swan or The Feversham Arms. Then just outside Helmsley, there are also the Hare at Scawton and in Harome the Star Inn and The Pheasant. Manions is a gorgeous, small cafe that serves homemade gourmet food and great coffee. Also, the stunning five acre walled gardens (open from April to October) and its beautiful vine house cafe are truly unique. Then there is The Cafe on the Square, ideal for delicious cakes, light food and views over the market square and, not to forget, Ryeburn’s ice cream parlour offering award winning homemade ice cream. And just 10 minutes walk away from the house, is the Helmsley lido which is open daily between 11:45 and 19:00, from mid-June to early September.
  • Olivia's house is absolutely perfect. We felt so at home and fell in love with the place instantly. It is a amazing space with everything you could possible need and more. The location is perfect literally a 2 minute walk to pubs, shops, restaurants and cafes. We would highly recommend this, extremely good value for money, home from home.

The cottage is immaculate and full of the charm anyone would want for a beautiful Yorkshire cottage. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay again and would recommend highly to all our friends and family

  • We were very fortunate to be the first Airbnb guests in the lovely home. Olivia is a fantastic host, very thoughtful and brilliant at communicating with us. The house is wonderful. Great town centre location, garden, parking, wonderful sitting rooms and wood burning stoves ( with fire guards) , a fantastic kitchen with everything we needed and the beds were very comfortable and the place was sparkling clean. A real gem of a high quality holiday rental. Our two toddlers were very well catered for with equipment and cots and toys.

Cosy cottage located in the North York Moors National Park with gorgeous big skies! A super base for exploring castles, abbeys, villages and the Heritage coast. Spoilt for choice in eateries from great local pubs to Michelin starred restaurants all with a 10 mile radius. Many guests comment on how peaceful and calm their stay has been. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, families with children and pets (one, well behaved dog only).
The cottage is located at the top of Sutton bank, halfway between Thirsk (7 miles) and Helmsley (7 miles). Due to its elevated position, the views (and sunrises) are beautiful. One mile from the National Park Visitor Centre and in touching distance to many other attractions.
  • Lovely place to stay:) the cake was a nice touch :) very welcoming and happy for our puppy to run around free :)

  • The cottage was a wonderful place to spend Christmas. The bedrooms were bigger than expected, the kitchen although small is very well equipped and able to handle Christmas lunch for 4. The location is lovely. Nice views, close to many local sites and walks. Great access to the stunning suttongl Bank. There was an electrical issue which caused power outages on Christmas day, the owners stopped their own day to dins a solution to get us through cooling lunch, then aore permanent solution after we had finished eating, and then had an electrician out the day after boxing day, an unfortunately timed incident handled very well by the owners. A lot of apologies and a bottle of fizz was left to make ammends. Would happily stay again and recommend to friends.

  • We had a very pleasant and relaxing stay at Lucy’s cottage. The cottage was clean, warm and cosy and had everything we needed for our short stay. Location was ideal to access all the places we wanted to explore. Lucy’s a very friendly host and gave us detailed instructions on how to find the cottage. Highly recommended!

  • This place is perfect. So clean, beautifully furnished. Ideal location for exploring. The host is lovely. Highly recommend. We will be booking again. Andrea, Lisa and doggies.

  • A lovely, comfortable and relaxing cottage in a wonderful location. Lucy was really helpful before we arrived and got in touch to give us some practical information and some great tips about what to do whilst we were there.

    Finlay2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • We have a lovely stay at Lucy's cottage. The cottage itself has everything you need and there is so much to do and see in the surrounding area.

    Rosie2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • Set in an amazing location, the cottage was so quiet and the views spectacular. Just a couple of minutes from Sutton Bank Visitor Centre and the many many lovely walks from there. The cottage was lovely and clean and very spacious. The addition of underfloor heating was a bonus and it was nice to feel warm tiles underfoot and a nice temperature throughout the cottage. Our puppy certainly loved it! Lucy was very welcoming leaving some essentials and a cake for us on our arrival. Top tips: 1) The gate opens outwards so stop your car slightly short of the gate on arrival. 2) Make sure to look up at night - it’s in the Dark Sky Discovery Area so the stars are amazing. 3) Set your alarm for sunrise and sit out the front and enjoy. Simply stunning. Will definitely stay here again when exploring the North York Moors National Park.

Jasmine Cottage is located on a quiet lane very close to the centre of the the historic village of Kilburn in North Yorkshire, UK. It is the perfect destination and property for a relaxing country break.
The cottage is perfect for a relaxing country break, either to enjoy outdoor activities, or a few lazy days in front of an open fire. The property is over 300 years old and was converted from the village “wash-house” many years ago. The cottage has recently been modernised to a very high standard, whist maintaining much of it’s charm and character. It offers spacious, luxury (“5 star”) sleeping accommodations for two people (super king bed or two singles, please specify preference on booking), plenty of space in the main bedroom for a young child (travel crib and high chair available on request) and there is a high quality sofa-bed available in the living room for extra guests/children (extra bedding available on request) - PLEASE NOTE - the living room is not a private space because guests from the upstairs bedroom need to pass through the living room to reach the bathroom kitchen. We only want to rent the space to those groups that recognise this limitation of layout and don't have a problem with the possible disturbance of downstairs guest and/or lack of privacy . The large bedroom features the original beams. There is a clear view of the White Horse of Kilburn from one of the bedroom windows. The property features a modern, spacious very well equipped, kitchen/dining area for four people. Facilities include: full/size washer/dryer, fridge/freezer, oven/grill, 4-hob induction top, dishwasher, coffee maker, kettle, toaster and plenty of high quality kitchen equipment, stoneware crockery and solid oak furniture. We provide tea, coffee and many kitchen essentials. The lounge/living room is full of character and features a solid fuel/wood burner connected to a central heating and hot water system (we provide the wood/solid fuel - you keep the fire burning!). This room has all the original beams visible. The solid fuel heating system is supplemented by modern electric radiators and an immersion heater for hot water. The full bathroom has a high power electric shower providing instant hot water for the shower/full bath. The living room includes a high quality full-HD TV/Radio, FreeSat, Catch-up TV, DVD player, Bose music player and BT Infinity Broadband.
Kilburn village is very popular with walkers, cyclists and pilots wanting to try their hand at gliding at the Yorkshire Gliding Club, which is close by. The village of Kilburn features many beautiful cottages, the White Horse (large hillside figure), the Mouseman Visitor Centre, the historic church of St. Mary’s and the very popular Forresters Arms.
  • Cute country cottage in lovely village - shame the pub was closed a after a fire! Comfy bedroom and cosy sitting room with nice furnishings and homely touches. Well fitted out kitchen/diner with all appliances and loads of basics in the cupboards - all in all a great place for a getaway. Keith was a great host and made sure the log burner was lit for our arrival - really welcome on a cold wet and windy February night!

    Frances2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • For quiet, rural time away, it would be hard to beat this cottage. Communication with Keith was brilliant and the cottage had everything we needed. It did take a day or two to get our heads around how best to use the wood burner to heat the place, but once we did it was extremely warm and cosy - the detailed written instructions were great

  • Keith's cottage is lovely, very homely, well equipped kitchen which meant we could cook our own meals. Excellent butchers down the road, not far from York or other lovely places. Bed was very comfy and good shower and having the woodburner was nice also. Would definitely return.
