  • A great and comfortable place to stay. Fresh bread ready for me on arrival was perfect with breakfast and for sandwiches the next day. I will definitely be back with my family later in the year.

  • We’ve stayed in plush hotels and all manner of self catering places over the years but this really is a true air bnb! Don’t expect “vanilla” boutique, but do expect comfort, loads of information, cleanliness, the best hospitality from Nigel and a “home from home” feel. We can’t fault this place and highly recommend it. Stunning walks in the flinders and try the local pool, so friendly! Nigel's freshly baked bread awaits you, it’s delicious!

  • We had a wonderful stay at Nigel’s place. The house is sparkling clean, very comfortable and well-situated for exploring the beautiful Flinders Ranges. Great attention to detail was evident throughout the house, from the kitchen supplies (including fresh bread!), stargazing lounges in the garden, and thorough information about Hawker and it’s surrounds. Nigel made sure our stay was a memorable one and made us feel very welcome, whilst also respecting our privacy. If we make it back to this stunning region, we will definitely stay again. Thanks Nigel.

  • Well what can I say? If you have the chance to stay here please do it! My husband and 2 children 19 and 14 stayed here and absolutely loved it. Fully self contained and extremely well equipped, immaculate and so clean. Very comfy queen bed, fluffy quilt, as well as many extra blankets if required - we didn't as very warm during our stay, even at night! So great to have the air con option in all the rooms. Great hot shower, roomy bathroom even had a hairdryer if needed, as well as nice touch of towels and flannels with a soap rolled up on the beds. Very homely feel with well equipped kitchen, some basic pantry staples and BBQ with outdoor eating area which had a great view. That view of the ranges is awesome, spent most of the time out there watching the sunrise, sunset with the many colour changes across the ranges, magic! We had a couple of kangaroos come close, and emu and galahs, wedge-tail eagles, as well as the sheep and cattle, and the bull! Was great watching the animals and birds come up to the trough for a drink. Loved having visits from the farm dogs the matriarch Maggie (so sweet) Roley the working man of the 3 and the pup Bella (very excitable!!). Walking in the creek, reading from the well stocked library about life and history in the area, hearing from Peter and Cheryl re some history of the property and the area. Fabulous to go to the campsite - which is also well equipped (might stay here with our camper one day!), and see the water in the permanent waterholes the Cascades, went for a walk, there were even ducks on the water. Also walking around Mayo Hut, fascinating history. The Heyson trail goes through the property too. Had amazing campfires, so quiet and peaceful. A great place to recharge and be at peace. Thank you Cheryl and Peter, we will be back one day!

  • We had a most enjoyable 3 night stay at the Wonoka Cottage in late February. Given the distances involved in driving there from Adelaide, we regretted not having booked an additional night. Although hesitant about the remoteness of the location, we enjoyed our stay. We stocked up on supplies in Port Augusta, but could have relied on Hawker for some meals. The accommodations were basic, but as advertised. We highly recommend Peter's tour of the property. You are guaranteed to see kangaroos in the wild, and if you drive to Wilpena Pound, an hour north, you will likely see wild emus as well. We highly recommend this cottage to those who want an authentic Outback experience. It certainly lived up to our expectations.

    Dale2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • I don't think I can say enough nice things about Cheryl and Peter's Air BnB or its marvelous views and calm. Because it was glorious. And we loved it and we highly recommend it. If you're after an off the beaten track retreat to have some space and serenity, or if you're after a homebase to explore the region, or if you want to live a tiny slice of Australian ranch life, or if you're interested in regional history (which we super are <3 ), : this is especially the place for you. We regret we didn't stay longer. And though we made use of the incredibly well-appointed kitchen for breakfasts and one of the nights to make a particularly elaborate meal, I regret not making more use of the outdoor barbecue (though we did make much use of that amazing patio and its sunsets). Should we find ourselves back up that way, this is where we'll be wanting to stay. And if I'm ever able to take off time to spend a month writing cozily writing a book--this is where I'll be wanting to do it.

    Ashley2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • A great experience to be right in the middle of the Flinders Ranges with kangaroos and emus in your backyard. Cheryl and Peter could not have been more welcoming. Enjoy the peace and the stars!

    Lynn2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • The flinders ranges look even better than the photos and Peter and Cheryl are very welcoming. The Air Bnb was clean and private with great views.

  • Thoroughly recommend Wonoka Cottage for a unique experience Amazing size property and lovely friendly hosts!

  • Excellent hosts, with extensive knowledge about the area. Beautiful place to stay, and really enjoyed our time at the cottage. Thank you Peter and Cheryl!

  • Wonderful hospitality, perfect little cottage with tonnes of room for a number of people. The bed was comfortable, the aircon did the trick during the hot nights and the facilities had everything I needed. Wonderful place to see a working farm and have a peaceful stay near the ranges.

Perfect for nature lovers! Accommodating 2 people, our Eco Tent is a steel framed, insulated canvas tent with eco decking floor. A queen size bed including linen, a small kitchenette and outdoor furniture is provided. Complete with an attached ensuite with solar hot water – no dash to a shared bathroom block in the middle of the night! Please note that this is nature based experience, very much like camping but with comfort! Due to the secluded location there is no electricity.
Set in a secluded location for your peace and privacy and breathtaking scenic views in every direction. Lots of native wildlife including kangaroos and emus and many birds species.
Unique Flinders Ranges views, farm stay accommodation - no neighbours.
  • The eco-tent is situated in a stunning gorge and waking up to the sun coming over the ridge of the valley is amazing. We took a walk up what we assume was a fire trail and took epic photographs at sunset. The accommodation has all the bases covered and feels so secluded and peaceful while only a short drive to Hawker. Enjoy!

    Euan2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Sharon's place is the ideal spot to get away and enjoy the serenity and tranquility of the Flinders Ranges. The site of the eco tent is superb, overlooking a gorge dotted with majestic gum trees and a view of the surrounding hills. The tent is sparkling clean with extremely tasteful decor, extra special touches and everything you need to enjoy a fabulous glamping experience. Sharon is the most friendly and accommodating host who ensured we had a fabulous stay. We would definitely recommend staying here and hope to come back again.

    Catherine2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • Our 2 night eco-tent stay was the perfect ending to our Flinders trip. We brought basic food along with us & made use of the esky & bbq as well as a fire one night. BBQ has a hot plate, grill (made lovely toast!) a wok burner (saucepan & kettle on property) and a closing lid. You do need to plan ahead for food if you’re needing to pick up supplies in Hawker - 6 day general store but service station is well stocked and the Flinders Food Co has the best cakes (chocolate & wattleseed tart is amazing) so grab some treats so you can stay put on the property with ease - you won’t want to waste time leaving the view! Birds galore and plenty of kangaroos to be seen - we did a couple of walks - it’s such a great area to explore - we spent hours walking the creek (dry at the moment) looking at rocks, trees and plants. There are some fantastic examples of the power and determination of nature! Hot shower was appreciated- we got pretty dusty in our exploits. Also, whilst you’re in Hawker - grab the fly nets from the service station to wear on your head whilst walking - you’re highly unlikely to come across anyone and they’re wonderful if you get a bad fly day. Sharon was also a wonderful host - very friendly & helpful & it was great to ask her about the property.

    Julie2019-09-24T00:00:00Z

  • What a cosy spot in stunning surrounds! This place has everything you love about camping (the stars, the air, the fire) without any of the things that make it hard. Ammenities, facilities and bed were all top notch with a hot shower! Sharon was really helpful and suggested extra blankets - that were needed for June! The milkyway at 3am is the best - highly recommend setting an alarm!

These include the breathtaking peaks of Wilpena Pound, the highest mountain in the Flinders Ranges (Saint Mary Peak), the rich Aboriginal Heritage, the old Ghan railway history, the many wild flowers and a host of native fauna. Located in the heart of Hawker, Meaney's rest is within a stone's throw of the local shops and the Jeff Morgan Gallery (which features a full panorama painting of Wilpena pound), a must see whilst you're in town! Flinders Food Co provides an awesome breakfast or lunch and The Hawker Hotel provides a good Aussie pub meal and watering hotel for you, both are less than a 5 minute walk away. The Hawker pool and sports centre is just down the road and a myriad of scenic walks are also on your doorstop. What more could you ask for!
  • This is the second time my partner and I have stayed at Meaney's Rest, and again it has proved to be an incredibly comfortable and luxurious stay, with Kevin and Vicki thinking of absolutely everything that we could need or want, right down to broadband, Foxtel and too many amazing things to mention! We would give Meaney's Rest 10 stars if we could and will most definitely be back again!

    Alison2020-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • Had a fantastic stay at Meaneys Rest. Very well equipped for 8 people. A mountain of effort has gone into the amenities and furniture in this house. It was a delight and definitely appeared to be the best option in town. Would definitely recommend to anyone

  • Warm host and very tide house! They have everything we need in their house.

    Mengyang2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Stunningly appointed accommodation with almost every "bell and whistle" you could ask for to ensure you have the most comfortable, relaxing and very well catered for home away from home. The perfect "home base" for exploring the "magical" Ikara-Flinders Ranges region. An art gallery across the road-Jeff Morgan's Gallery- takes you on a visual journey that introduces you to the beauty of all that..and more ...the region offers. "Awe-inspiring" ! The Flinders Food Co. Cafe opposite the Hawker Visitor Information display in Elder Street brings inner City Cafe culture, blended with indigenous bush tucker ingredients (oooh love the quandong tarts made on premises!!) for us all to enjoy! The Pub, General Store, the Mogas Servo and all the other businesses in Hawker provide most of what you need without trekking west to Port Augusta prematurely. We thoroughly enjoyed our few days at Meaney's Rest and we are certain you would too!

    Karin2019-11-21T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely superb accommodation! Kevin and Vicki are wonderful hosts and have gone above and beyond anything you could ever imagine- from the bath robes and slippers, to the well-stocked fridge and pantry and all the other extras they provided. We just can’t thank them enough for their amazing and generous hospitality. We will most definitely be back!

    Alison2019-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • A welcoming and spacious base for a weekend wedding in the Flinders Ranges. We had our toddler with us and loved being in such a big, comfortable home within walking distance from the playground and food spots - made for very easy travelling. Great communication and very hospitable. Top quality tech around the house too! Thank you!

    Alice2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • An excellent stay at Kevin’s place. Hawker a good base for the Flinders.

    Patricia2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • What a fantastic experience staying at Meaney's Rest in Hawker. My cousin and I based ourselves there for 3 nights and spent 2 days exploring the Flinders Ranges. Hawker is ideally situated to do day trips to several gorges, Wilpena Pound and Blinman. The local pub is a couple of minutes walk from Meaney's Rest and serves cold beer and good pub meals. Meaney's Rest is a beautifully restored house packed full with modern conveniences and technology. Everything is sparkling clean and co-host Vicki was very welcoming and helpful. I thoroughly recommend Meaney's Rest to anybody wanting a comfortable, relaxing base to explore the Flinders. Thank you Kevin and Vicki. I will be back.

Imagine yourself sitting on the veranda of an early 1900's homestead... all the character of the early farming days with 100 year old hand picked stone walls... sheep and cattle grazing among iconic Flinders Ranges views... Welcome to Mt Scott Homestead!
Quiet, remote farm house. Sheep and cattle grazing. Abundant in wildlife. Iconic Flinders Ranges views.
Unique Flinders Ranges views, farm stay accommodation - no neighbours.
  • This Homestead is fantastic. Very clean with quality finishes. The kids loved exploring the property and having a camp fire. Couldn’t have asked for a better holiday. Highly recommended.

  • A beautiful outback escape.

    Joel2019-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful renovated homestead, with quintessential outback charm, capturing the essence of the Flinders.

    Andrew2019-05-09T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully renovated old homestead. Amazing location for a great outback experience. 15 km from town along gravel road so watch for the kangaroos and emus along the way.

    Anne2018-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • This homestead is a MUST stay if you are visiting the Flinders Ranges. Whilst it is 15 minutes outside Hawker on mostly dirt road, the seclusion & views give you a wonderful experience of outback Australia. The homestead is exactly like the photos & has all that is required. We especially enjoyed the indoor fireplace as well as the campfire and the beds are soooo comfortable. The location gives you access to all areas of the Flinders Ranges. If travelling at dusk/night time, you do need to take it slow on the road due to the kangaroos - we have never seen so many but this is outback Australia. This may affect whether you choose to eat in or out at night (the Hawker Hotel has great food) but we felt that being on kangaroo alert was part of the experience. The homestead has everything you require. I cannot say enough about how great this place is. We were extremely sad to leave.

    Lever2018-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • You can expect a journey into the outback that is surrounded by luxury. Don’t hesitate and book 👍👍

    Gary2018-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at the homestead was beyond expectations. The old historic home has been renovated to perfection, with modern upgrades whilst enhancing the beauty of the old homestead. Our favourite part was late afternoon drinks on the verandah, with cheese platters. The view of the magestic hills and stunning wildlife made for such a perfect stay. We felt so comfortable and had all we need. Especially appreciated the coffee maker. Would certainly recommend Sharon with hey prompt communication and beautiful accommodation to any who are interested!!

    Laura2017-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you Sharon. In a great location, your homestead is a lovely home furnished with style. It is such a great 'getaway' from it all. We especially enjoyed the fire indoors on one evening, and then the fire outdoors in the fire pit on another. The sunset from the verandah over the Flinders Ranges was spectacular, and the night sky truly amazing; something us city folk don't experience very often! The sheep, emus, pink and grey cockatoos and lizards are a bonus also. All in all, a unique experience!

  • We had a great trip celebrating mum's 60th. Everyone from the grandkids to the grandparents had a great time. We got to feed the animals which was a great experience for the little ones. Adventured around Wilpena pound and Willow Waters Gorge which was amazing. The house was perfect for our stay, very clean and had everything we needed for a great time including a campfire. Thank you Sharon and family for your hospitality!

  • This property is located about 13km outside of hawker, looking into the wilderness with nothing between you and the mountains, stunning views. The accommodation is superb, beautifully clean and fitted out. Comfortable beds, lovely bed linen, spacious rooms, good shower, TV with good reception and everything you could need in the kitchen. Sharon was delightful in person, couldn’t have hoped for better.

  • An immaculate, beautifully decorated and spacious accommodation. Ideal for mobility challenged people as there is not one step to get into it throughout the unit. There are birds and animals to observe and photograph around the farm, driving up the private gorge is spectacular. It is also an excellent base to do day trips through The Flinders Ranges. We look forward to reading the history of the property that Sharon is compiling.

  • Homely Cottage is homely comfortable and has everything you could possibly want. A great value base for exploring the Flinders Ranges. Thoroughly recommend Denise’s hospitality and knowledge of the area. Should mention Flinders Ranges 4WD tours. This is the way to see the area with Astrid. Local pub specials great for dinner. Friendly town and serenity personified!

  • This accommodation is in an excellent location, with lovely views of the Flinders Ranges. The amenities at the house are great. The barbecue works like a charm. Our hosts were friendly and welcoming.

  • We had a lovely stay at Sharon’s and Leonard’s place! They were always available if we needed them. The cottage was cozy and comfortable and was the perfect spot to soak in beautiful Flinders.

  • This is an ideal home from home in the Flinders Ranges. It's very comfortable with plenty of amenities for self-catering. Comfy beds, satellite tv, good shower, great bbq...and very obliging hosts. We really enjoyed our stay...

    Neil2019-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • We found this a great base for seeing the Flinders. The house isn't luxurious, but it is roomy and private, with everything you need provided, and very comfortable (more than we expected!) Obviously no shop, so you need to bring your food, but everything else was there. Sharon is lovely and is very helpful, with plenty of information re road conditions and what to do in the area. The views to the mountains are spectacular, especially at sunset. Lots of wildlife around. A great day trip was driving to Wilpena via the Moralana scenic drive, then round through the gorges for walk in Bunyeroo and then returning via Brachina with a detour to the pub at Parachilna on the way back!

    Karin2018-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you Sharon and Leonard for a wonderful stay! The location is a fantastic base to explore the Flinders Ranges, the accommodation extremely clean and comfortable (loved the indoor fireplace) and the hosts very welcoming and happy to help in any way. Our toddler loved meeting Pippy the pet goat and feeding the chickens. Can highly recommend Edeowie Station and hope to be back one day.

A picturesque rustic stone homestead on 200 acres located on the Willochra Plains, a couple of kms from the historic town of Bruce. Approximately 35 minute drive from beautiful Melrose and Mount Remarkable, and a 20 minute drive to historic Quorn, home to the world famous Pichi Richi Railway. The homestead consists of 3 bedrooms inside the house and a sleep-out. There is a well equipped country style kitchen with AC and wood fire, bathroom with inside toilet, and lounge with reverse cycle AC.
Booking: Please message us if the dates you require are not available. Some dates have been blocked out to allow time for the property to be accessed for cleaning or ensure rainwater levels are maintained. Property: 'Gay Hall' homestead (circa 1920) was the original house on a 6000 acre wool growing property that stretched further to the North. The property now comprises of the 200 acre 'house paddock' and still has some of the original infrastructure such as the shearing shed, which you are free to have a look around. You are also free to explore the 200 acres that mainly stretches South and West from the house. With all its flatness and saltbush though, this exploring may not take too long but does give plenty of room for the kids to ride their bikes around. The well equipped country style kitchen has been freshly painted and comprises of a new fridge and electric stove/oven, microwave, toaster, kettle and some basic condiments. There is also a wood fire combustion heater in the kitchen and some fire wood will be supplied. The comfortable lounge has also been freshly painted and comprises of a reverse cycle air conditioner, digital TV, dvd player, games and an old piano (slightly out of tune!). A washing machine is available but we ask that it gets used minimally to conserve rain water. The three main bedrooms all have pressed tin ceilings, ceiling fans and polished Jarrah floor boards, and are equipped with extra heating and cooling appliances if required. The sleep-out is carpeted and is provided with a pedestal fan. As the property is not short on space, there is plenty of room for parking up caravans and sleeping in a house for a change, an affordable option for those caravanning convoys. Region: From the house looking South, you can see Mount Remarkable next to Melrose, a beautiful town to visit. To the East is the Horseshoe Top-End for keen 4 wheel drivers (contact them first). And looking far to the North West, the highest peak is Mount Arden which is past historic Quorn and near Warren Gorge, home to rare Yellow Footed Rock Wallabies. These are some of the great locations to explore and the property is conveniently located to a number of Flinders Ranges sights. Things to know: The house itself is showing wear in some sections with cracked walls (joys of a stone house with fluctuating seasons!), although this does add to its character. The house is supplied with rainwater only and we encourage you to bring your own water for drinking as we cannot ensure the rainwater is always safe to drink. We also ask that you keep showers short to save water, and suggest you will anyway (especially in Winter) as the shower isn't the best!! There are also snakes around in the warmer months so keep a look out. When walking around the property, please note that this was an operating wool growing property so there are still plenty of old items and barbed wire lying around. Access and location: This property is relatively remote (you cannot see your neighbours) and you will have very limited interaction with us. We are contactable by phone or email during your stay, but it may take some time to attend the property if an issue requires attention (especially if a tradesman is required). An IGA, service station and hardware store (both limited open hours on the weekend) and hospital are located in Quorn, and another shop and hardware store with fuel is located in Wilmington (usually only closed on Sunday afternoons). You may also be required to switch on and off the amenities such as power, water and gas depending on the timing of your stay but typically the cleaner will do this prior to your arrival. Access from the Wilmington to Quorn bitumen road is via 12km's of dirt road. Typically the road is good for 2WD vehicles but after a rain, a 4WD would be required as it gets very slippery and muddy. The Telstra 4G network is available but other carriers are intermittent. There is no Wifi/Internet available other than what is available on your phone. Summary: We have tried to give you the most honest description of the property as we can to ensure you know exactly what to expect when you arrive, hopefully without putting you off! We have owned this property for 13 years and know the previous family who owned the property well. As a family, we have had many enjoyable trips to this property and believe other families (who want to leave the tent or caravan home for a change) will do too.

Escape corona-crazy and exercise smart social distancing in outback calm. 'The Shack' offers a refuge in the small town of Quorn. It's a small, comfortable, clean and styled house with an established native garden. All modern amenities, kitchen and bathroom are available for self-catering. You'll love the wide streets, amazing evening light, sleepy neighbourhood feel and proximity to National Parks, hikes, mountain bike tracks, desert mountains and non-gentrified Aussie pubs.
Wooden floors + down lights + ceiling fans Renovated 1950s tin clad cottage with character Modern kitchen + bathroom Original fireplace + wood stove Big native garden Shady verandas Warm in winter, cool in summer Rainwater -run 5 mins walk from IGA supermarket, pubs and Pichi Richi Train Station
Quorn is a small, pretty country town with not much going on. It's a popular film location for many Aussie movies like Breaker Morant, The Last Ride, Picnic at Hanging Rock and many more. Quorn is home to Pichi Richi Railway, a unique steam train that runs to Port Augusta seasonally mainly on weekends and school holidays. It's nestled in the dramatic hills and old mountain ranges of the Flinders Ranges, which just get better the further north you go ( Hawker, Parachilna - great pub, and Flinders Ranges National Park). It's a self-drive tourism town during winter, but without the commercial vibe. The longer you stay the more you appreciate unwinding and slowing down to the great big peacefulness that lives in the hills, here. 30 kms drive west of Port Augusta 30 kms north of Wilmington and 60 north of Melrose if you plan to do mountain bike riding in Mt Remarkable NP. I recommend Over the Edge bike shop for more info and Bartagunyah trails (very cool, long single 'goat' track on the station, more accessible for non-technical riders, but still challenging enough to keep it interesting) Other places to note: The Quorn Rural Traders for hardware (QRT) Not open Sundays Emily's Bistro for unique dining experience Quandong Cafe - do quandong pies - a MUST local delicacy/ bush food Outdoor town pool open in summer Visitor Info Centre opposite the IGA IGA has the ATM Good spot to stay between Adelaide and Oodnadatta Track/Birdsville Track journeys Can get windy here, this makes it really cold, bring your fleeces/beanie Beautiful sunsets, birds, wildlife like eagles, hawks, kangaroos and many emus Yep, there's a golf course.

  • What a great location for exploring the Flinders Ranges. Miles from anywhere, but close to all the sights. Mija is an excellent host and provided details of best things to do and see. If you’re after solitude then the Shearer’s Quarters delivers. The quiet at night is amazing, as are the stars on a clear night. Kangaroos and emus are all about. The kitchen is fantastic for cooking a meal for the family (a good size and all the utensils and equipment you need) . Mija tells us that the old bread oven still works and makes wonderful pizzas. An outdoor bbq further adds to your cooking arsenal. There’s also a fire pit for cold evenings. A great spot to get away from it all!
