Very nice small space in a jungle setting. Perfect location for exploring the east side of the island and the lava entry into the ocean. Kealoha is a wonderful host and was able to accommodate our request for a Lomi Lomi massage treatment while we were there. We would definitely stay there again.

We spent only one night on Kealoha's house. We had a clean dormitory and big bed. Great place to recoup after hiking the nearby National Park. For me the blanket was thin, I felt could during the night.

Kealoha gave us a warm welcome. Her place is great with a giant lanai. Like many places un Hawaii, the twilight is filled with the sounds of frogs and dawn with the sounds of hens. It is part of the charm ! It is idealy situated if you want to watch the active lava flow or visit the South East of the island.

Comfortable room in a beautiful setting. Very quiet location surrounded by trees. Lots of things to do nearby ans we wish wehad more time to stay. Check-in was very easy especially because we arrived after 10pm.

It was a great place to stay. The host were lovely and very helpful! The land is beautiful and the coqui frogs were just what we needed to sing us to sleep (I'm going to miss them). The cat and dog are just the friendliest and we knew we found a good place to stay when there weren't any loud tv noises or any ambulance sounds (we're from the city.) We went with the single room for two people but I think we might have had a little more space if we had rented the apartment instead, oh well, our mistake. The bed was comfortable and the location was perfectly tucked in between all the fun island adventures and neighboring towns. Highly recommended for those looking to relax at the end of the day in the nice cool jungle ;)

My boyfriend and I flew in from a neighbor island and stayed in the beautiful Mai'a Suite. It was just as pictured, beautiful and very well kept. The bed was very comfortable and bathroom was gorgeous! The "kitchen" area was a bonus. We enjoyed the tropical breeze throughout the day and all the greenery that surrounded. Overall our stay at the Mai'a Suite was perfect! Sam and his wife were very welcoming. We'll definitely be back!

Sam could not have been more welcoming and friendly. The pictures of the room were very accurate and the host went out of his way to provide little extras to make sure we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. I loved the large shower and bright spacious accommodations. The only drawback is that there not much of a sound barrier between the suite and host home so you can hear voices through the wall and through open windows. It was very quiet after 9:00pm and in the morning so it was not an issue for sleeping.

If you are looking for a great, modern, stylish spot for Volcano's escapades and surrondings this place is great! Very comfortable, equiped with everything what you might need! Awesome!

Karen and David were really good hosts, very helpful and so friendly! We had a great time at their place and felt comfortable and welcomed. The place itself was also quite charming, in a jungle environment, quiet, and suited to all our needs. Many beautiful activities and tours within good reach (you should have a car though), especially in the Volcanoes National Park. We would definitely visit again!

Excellent place to stay, comfortable, kitchen has a hand juicer or manual press that is awesome. Its these small things that Karen and David take care of, which makes you feel at home and ease there.

We visited 2 islands and stayed in 4 Airbnb during our 2 week vacation in Hawaii. Karen and David's place was by far our favorite. They were the most gracious, friendly and helpful hosts we could've asked for. The location is perfect if you're looking to get away from town, but with it still being accessible. The jungle-like setting is breathtaking, with the sounds of birds and tree frogs all around. There's a cozy lanai where we enjoyed our coffee every morning. Karen and David were extremely helpful, giving us tons of tips on what to see and do, and where to eat. We wish we could've stayed longer to take advantage of their knowledge of the island. The apartment itself is very spacious with an open-concept. Both the Queen size bed and pull-out couch were very comfortable. We had all the amenities we needed, coffee maker, small fridge, small convection oven and microwave. The place was immaculate. Wish we didn't have to leave! Thank you Karen and David for your warm hospitality! You guys are the best!

Staying in Karen and David's studio was wonderful. The place was clean, well maintained and extremely cozy! Both Karen and David were highly available for questions, advice or any concerns we had. Even though it's slightly far from the airport (about 30-40 minutes), it is well located for the volcano and allows easy travelling around the island! We look forward to staying with them again!

Majestic Palms was a great little spot to stay while exploring the eastern side of the island. It was just like the listing said cozy, clean, and peaceful. David and Karen were great hosts. Easy to get a hold of if you need anything, but give you plenty of space if you want it.

Darya's place is truly a gem. Great location - close to Hilo and the Volcanos, easy to access and very spacious. But best of all is Darya's commitment to making her guests feel at home - we had fresh eggs and fruits awaiting our arrival as well as extra towels for the beach. Strongly recommend this space for anyone spending time on the island!

I couldn't have stayed in a more perfect apartment or location for the latter half of my trip on the big island. The apartment was cozy and comfy and Darya has the art of hosting perfected. I had a chance to spend my final night in the cottage that Darya offers as well, and it too was fantastic. Thanks again for the wonderful stay and warm hospitality!

The studio is absolutely wonderful! It is easy to find if you follow Darya's directions. It was clean and spacious, and the outdoor kitchen is well equipped with everything you would need. Darya has a beautiful garden, and her property is surrounded with nature. She was very welcoming when we arrived, and gave us great information on where to go in the area. She also left us with fresh eggs from her chickens, english muffins, fruit, and spring water. She even gave us more eggs when we used them up. She has been a fantastic host for us!

We stayed 3 nights at Darya's studio and had a lovely stay. Darya was very welcoming and we had good conversation around a beer or two! The studio is very confortable and you have an outside kitchen well fournished if you feel like cooking. The studio is outside of the city, but you're closed from Hilo, Volcanoes Park and beaches ! This was a great place to stay. There was fresh eggs and coffee provided every morning for me to make as well as fresh fruit. The apartment is very private and I barely saw Darya during my stay. A car is highly recommended for the big Island. I would most certainly like to stay here again.

Modern and large bathroom. Well-equipped kitchen. Very clean and cozy. The house is beautifully situated in a quiet area. Despite this, he went with our host during our stay, it wrote to us if we are not lacking anything. We highly recommend this place!

The accommodation is very good: comfortable, spacious and clean. It is also very well stocked with equipment both in the kitchen and in the bathroom. Speaking of bathroom it is incredible and I would like the same! Jonathan is a very friendly host and good advice on what to do in the area! The housing situation is very calm by cons for people who are light sleepers, the sound of frogs can disturb. The only drawback may be the fact that one is stayed 2 nights! Their welcome was beyond all expectations! Really super nice couple/hosts. I was their first guest! The decor is very customized. The wifi was pretty fast. No TV, but, who needs one on holiday! The queen size Bed was very comfortable. Lots of drawer space for your stuff. Minutes drive to Weekend market. Shopping Center about 5 miles. 20-minutes to Hilo and 40-mins to Volcano. I heartily recommend this place to all who visit the big island.

Getting to Joy and Michael's was a bit difficult in the dark, but once there the accommodation was great, very private, comfortable and clean. Both Joy and Michael gave us a warm and friendly welcome, they went above and beyond for us, providing breakfast on a couple of mornings, advice for our day trips and provisions for our trip to Mauna Kea. The neighbours were a little noisy and you can hear the traffic, but nothing too disturbing. Over all we were happy with our stay and would recommend it.

The Host did everything to make my stay wonderful. Very easy to talk to and relax in interesting conversation. Very accommodating to my needs. I would not hesitate to re-book if I'm able to return. Felt very much at home with Joy and Michael. The little studio was just the right size for me and another. I loved their Lanai to their home! Large and welcoming area. They furnished me a breakfast and dinner, very good. Wish I had more time to visit, but my stay was to help take of my daughter living in Kurtistown and had broke both feet! Not fun for anyone.. We had a perfect experience during our three days stay at Mike's and Joy's place. Super clean and cozy appartment with full blown equipment. Restaurants, Supermarkets, and Gas stations nearby. Perfect location if you want to explore the south/East of Big Island. We had several Airbnb bookings on the Island, but their place was the best beyond all means. Joys breakfast skills are just enlightening, and so are the chats with Mike!

Joy and Michael have a beautiful, spacious place to stay in - while it's not in a town, it's close to many of the places we wanted to visit (Volcanoes NP, Hilo, waterfalls, etc.). They are super friendly and welcoming to their guests, offering us advice and making us breakfast a couple of times!

Joy and Michael were a joy to be with. They are wonderful, welcoming hosts and we had an exceptional time at their house. The beds, kitchenette, and bathroom with shower were clean and ready for us. We had great conversations, meals, and overall good time. It was a great relief for us after the negative experience we had the previous night. Liz had stuff waiting for me. It was nice. During my stay, the smoke detector was running low on battery and there was no ladder to remove it. Though she wasn't around, she contacted a friend who went in and took care of it.

JungleHut was amazing! We were right in the middle of the jungle 5 minutes away from the highway. Decoration was so nice! And Liz was very friendly and warm welcoming Definitely, we will come again!

Exceptional host and excellent hospitality ! We had a great time staying at Liz’s Hawaiian Jungle Hut, it was a perfect get-away for our 2nd anniversary trip! Liz was very meticulous with providing us with all the local information. Her suggestions were apt for the duration of our stay. Liz was just a phone call away and responded promptly. Hawaiian Jungle Hut is true to its name, it is located in the rain forest of Big Island, you sleep to the sound of elements and rise to the chirping of birds :). Very nice and peaceful place to layback and relax. We were welcomed with a bottle of red wine and hawaiian made chocolates. The house is beautifully decorated, very clean and equipped with everything that you need. We had fun staying at Hawaiian Jungle Hut! Thank you for having us Liz. The Jungle Hut was a unique experience that we will always remember. Liz gave us great directions to the hut, as well as suggestions for a daily itinerary, all of which were extremely useful during our stay on the Hilo side of the Big Island. All the amenities you need are there, including a collapsible cooler, a shade tent for the beach and even big spray, which came in handy. A truly Hawaiian experience, complete with colorful geckos and tropical birds calls surrounding the hut 24/7.

Kealoha is a nice host. She's a smily person and took good care of us. But her announce say that there is two bedrooms and it's not true. What she calls the second bedroom is the futon (very uncomfortable) on the patio outside the house... It's like doing camping... with some lizards and blats and noises from the frogs. We don't slept during the 3 days at her house...

It was absolutely a lovey place to experience how the local live their daily life. The land lady is very responsive! I enjoyed my stay there. It's located in a secluded area but there's no where an iPhone map can't find. She has a very friendly dog and cat. They won't bother you if you aren't into them. The dog will just stay far away and wagging its tail. I'd highly recommend this place if you ever plan to visit Hilo. It's also merely an hour away to the Valcanoes park. Straight forward drive!

This place a tropical oasis away from home. It was difficult to find at first, but Kealoha gave specific driving instructions promptly by mobile as we did not have a map or GPS. We were very lucky to have her describe it to us or we would not have found the place! It was exactly like the pictures and super clean with kitchen and balcony. The bed was very comfortable. She was not there but her groundskeeper Pete was, who met us and was very friendly. There's a carport for your car. The lanai was comfortable for chilling on the sofa bed. She has cute animals, including Mailie her cat that purrs at the door wanting to be patted all the time. I would recommend people staying here for a great experience in Hilo. I would also recommend going to the Volcano National park which is 40min away by car!

Had a great stay. The studio was spacious, very clean, nicely decorated, and private. I would recommend this place if you are staying on the Hilo side. It is central to many attractions. Only downside was that the wifi was weak, but Paula and John are trying to fix it. A lovely couple. Thanks for having us!

We had a great experience! Our hosts met us at the gate with their dog Edgar. They were super friendly and welcoming! Their dog was friendly and sweet as well. They let us know about the place and had a binder filled with important information. The nearby attractions were the town of Pahoa and the hot pond.

Paula and John were GREAT! Super friendly. Hale Amor was clean, cute and comfortable exactly like the pictures. Would highly recommend. Wish I had more time to explore and get to know Paula and John. They both seem like extremely fun people and I could foresee exceptional conversations with them. Only reservation about staying would be if you had mobility issues since you need to open the gate every time to drive in or if you don't like dogs.

We thought it was a very nice place. The location was perfect. The hosts were very warm and nice and we always felt like we could approach them if we needed anything. We didn't need anything though, because the place had everything we needed and more. We would definitely stay there again and would recommend to any friends or relatives visiting Big Island.

We had a great stay at Paula and Johns. Their studio is very clean, nicely furnished and very comfortable. They had good suggestions for us on things to see. This has got to be one of the best and most affordable places to stay hilo side. Just a note for light sleepers, you man want to bring earplugs as the frogs sing at night. A very interesting and different experience to be sure!

Me and my boyfriend were so fortunate to stay with Paula and John and their cutest dog edger! They were really helpful and give lots of advices to where to go and what to see! The apartment was stunningly beautiful and fully equipped! Loved having Netflix to watch movies at night! Edgar is a puppy and really playful! We loved having him greeting us when we get home every night;) of you have chance to visit in the area, I'd say stay with them for sure! I will! Next time !

Paula and John were very welcoming and their appartment was in mint condition. They even prepared an information book with all kinds of usefull information about the unit and the area (restaurants, market, etc.) Thanks to that we managed to grab a Halo Halo from the local Filipino market.

Paula, John and Edgar (a very nice dog) welcomed me with a typically hawaiian ALOHA. Both of them were very helpful and have been given me a lot of tips of what to do on the island as well as some good hints on dining. Hale Amor is a very beautiful little apartment.

Had an amazing time in the lizard house! Liz and Steve were incredibly warm genuine and welcoming, greatly appreciated all the advice and extras they provided us with (snorkel gear, boogie boards, advice of where to go and yummy places to eat)... loved feeling like we were staying at a treehouse with modern amenities. The kitchen was so fun to cook in and have morning coffee, very relaxing to listen to the rainforest :D.

We had a great stay at The Tropical Lizard House. The room/apartment had everything we could wish for and it was amazing falling asleep and waking up hearing the wonderful sounds of nature. Greatly recommended!

We kammen against 20 clock in the evening. There were no problems with handing over the keys. The pitch was very large, so that our rented Jeep has reingepasst. Everything was very clean and tidy. The bed was freshly made. It's all there, what you need. Since Elizabeth by guests forgotten / bequeathed item cancels, we had for example not buy extra sunscreen. Everything is very green and tropical. Just beautiful. The House of Besitzter is located next door, so that at any time can be asked for advice or tips. Elizabeth and her husband are very open and help prepare people. They have a dog and a cat, both guarding the land. I as an animal lover could always schmussen with the cat :), but this had to always remain outside. I would recommend this apartment at any time! A big thank you to Liz and Steve for the great apartment and warm and open recording :)

We had a great time staying here! The room is nice, and the little outdoor kitchen is great. Elizabeth and Steve are very warm and friendly, giving plenty of local advice and making you feel at home. It really feels like you're living in the jungle, with lush plants all around. I would (and will!) recommend this to friends and family looking for a laid-back place to stay near Hilo!

We really enjoyed our stay at Tropical Mo'o Hale. It was great to be in a more rural setting with tropical vegetation. The suite was clean and had everything we needed. The host was helpful in suggesting some extra places to visit. We are sure glad we did not miss the snorkelling at the tidal pools. We would not have found them without the extra help. We would definately recommend this place to our friends and we would stay there again.

Nice place to stay, a little off the driven path but there's a reward for it. It's a full suite in a separate building, patio with kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. Place was clean and well furnished, even internet access. I thought it was charming and really beautiful to be located in the forest, and on the second floor, like that.

Our stay was pleasant. I got a tour upon arrival and my family was left on our own for the weekend, which is what we wanted. Shampoo, conditioner and body wash was left for us. The place was clean. Thank you!

This is a very nice place in a great area in Big Island. It is very quiet on a beautiful region not far from the Volcanos National Park and other great places. The house is very spacious with a equipped kitchen and a very nice living room. Michael was very friendly welcoming and helpful, even though we didn't meet in person. In the first night, the gas of the oven finished and in less than 5 minutes he contacted the neighbour and managed to fix it. I highly recommend this place!

To be honest I wasn't expecting much for how much this bnb is, but I have to draw the line when I find cockroaches in my bed in the middle of the night despite checking the bed before going to sleep for bugs and other creepy crawlies (ie mice). There are cockroaches everywhere in this bnb. They're literally crawling out of the woodwork. Pics: (URL HIDDEN) ; (URL HIDDEN) ; (URL HIDDEN) We were only there 3 days and every day we killed at least 8 of them. You couldn't leave any food outside of the fridge because there were tiny little 1mm sized bugs crawling all over the counter top and around the gasket of the fridge. All of us were paranoid to leave any of our belongings on the floor as we didn't want to bring back any cockroaches home with us. If you don't mind the cockroaches it was a cute little place. A little musty and has some mildew/mold issues but that's to be expected in a non-air conditioned home in a tropical area. The one true positive was Chloe who was available during our check in/check out. She was a peach when talking with her during the few instances we interacted, as we were gone all day, and we didn't really bring up any issues as I'm sure if the cockroaches are coming out of the walls on this side of the duplex, they're coming out of her side as well. They seemed to pop out of the common wall between the two units wood panels/trim. All in all if you don't mind bugs that carry infectious diseases that are difficult to get rid of this home would probably work for you. It has pots/ pans and eating utensils. However, the washer and dryer outside was rusty and made the clothes smell like mildew. Oh and beware the sounds of the Coqui frogs. All. Night. Long.

Home away from home! House was exactly as described; Michael was very friendly and easy to reach. Jerry and Chloe were courteous and attended to whatever needs we had. Location was perfect; just outside of Hilo enough to not worry about traffic or pedestrian congestion. Would rent again in a heartbeat!

Michael and Radha were wonderful hosts and made me feel very welcome. I knew they were available anytime and this was reassuring as I traveled solo. I felt safe and secure and the accommodation was comfortable and clean. I wasn't interested in "roughing it" or being off grid I wanted comfort, Internet access, good cell phone reception and a kitchen. All of this was provided. This is the best and most affordable Airbnb I have been to so far and I would definitely recommend it to everyone who is looking for a nice place to stay near Hilo. The house was more than perfect, comfortable, with soft blankets and Apple TV and everything else needed to stay in during rainy days :) I found this place conveniently located just a short drive from the Hilo airport and close to viewing the volcano. Having access to the onsite washer/ dryer was a huge bonus for me as I needed to do laundry shortly after arriving. Overall I just had an amazing time and could not have chosen a better lovely and more private place to stay. Will be back for sure! My experience was great and could not have been better. Travelers Tip: don't miss the Makuu farmers market held on Sunday's just 5 minutes away for some great local goods and organic fresh produce!

Quiet and very clean. Nice carport parking. There are long term tenants. It is a long drive to most anything with some narly traffic. The sofa is exceedingly soft. Hard to get up from, at least we thought so. The beds are hard and every spring could be felt. We did not sleep well The kitchen is well stocked. Just to let you know there is nothing close to the house. The owners were excellent at communicating and responded very quickly. We did enjoy the area a good deal. It did take 30-45 minutes to get into Hilo.

The listing is exactly as shown in the pictures. Lovely duplex property in a private neighborhood. We loved the location as it put us out of town but closer to the area where the lava is currently actively flowing from the volcano. We did not encounter any cockroaches during our stay as a previous review had mentioned but living in Hawaii they are constantly around, just something to keep in mind.

The location was great for visiting the volcano and the backdrop of the waves crashing on the cliffs just 500ft away were an added bonus. We would defiantly recommend Patti's humble home!

Place is south of Hilo. Almost equal distance to volcano as Hilo. So if you are staying at Patti's place you need a car. Hilo has some really child friendly beach compared to Kona. Kens pancake house is a big most. But the fish and chips place Patti knows is worth a trip. From her house there is access to the shoreline from which you can see the sunrise. We arrived late at night with a terrible rain storm, the host despite lived across the street did not appear to know each other, the house was smelly is the futon that was to serve as a third bed was broken and had no sheets . The mattress was old and dirty, the light outside the house did not work. in 4 days we never met in person the host, he would send messages that would come to visit us in the afternoon when we were out inevitably. totally negative experience not to be repeated.

Kepi's place is perfect, great value for what you get, and the hosts are super friendly, lots of aloha. The apt was very comfortable, and the garden is beautiful. Pretty central location given you can get to Hilo, Pahoa, Volcano and lower Puna in just 20 minutes drive.

The rental is a large multi unit property, with thoughtfully designed space to assure privacy and outdoor living. Kepi and Jim, have considered all the little details that make a traveler comfortable. These include an ample first breakfast, fresh fruit basket, shampoo, Dish TV, and comfortable furniture. Great airflow through both units we stayed in. Both Kepi and Jim, are interesting and kind and gave us a connection of feeling and warmth. Location is convenient. Would stay there again.

Staying at Kepi's place was the best airbnb experience I've had. She is an amazing and generous person, and gave us loads of tips on what to do on the big island. The apartment is spacious, clean, and comfortable with well equipped kitchen. The decor and art are beautiful. Nothing to complain about at all.

Great stay! Things were organized and clear. The one bedroom has a double and single in it, and there is also a futon that you can fold down in the living room.

This is a lovely place to stay. The apartment is full of artistic expression done by Kepi. The hosts are wonderful and very friendly. Thay are close by and will help with anything you need to know. We would return next time we are lucky enough to visit this island again. Bring earplugs as the frogs are quite noisy at night. This is a rainforest !

Perfect home-base to explore Volcanoes NP and the surrounding area. Couldn't ask for more!

Sandra and her place were lovely. Upon arrival, she came out and greeted us. The place is comfortable, clean, well-equipped, and exactly like the photos. The location was great to visit the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Hilo, Kapaho Tide Pools, and Kalapana (where we managed to rent bikes to ride to the lava viewing). Wished we could've stayed longer!

First off. Best AirBnb I've been to. We've been traveling and have tried several other "super host", and Sandra's place was the best super host thus far. It was called Sandra's Retreat, and it really lived up to the name. Very private, spacious, and lounging around the outside was great. It was sort of like a patio/porch mixed with outdoor man cave. Whatever you want to call it, the outside area reminded me of a place to have a lazy afternoon or early morning cookout in your pajamas without fear of neighbors. The interior had well positioned bed, kitchen, and bath. Snorkel gear, flashlight, beach towels, grilling utensils, and outdoor shower were included. The only downfall was minor and not really an issue with Sandra's, but the Big Island itself. This was the driving involved. No matter where you stay in the Big Island, expect to drive to do anything. It's an easy 20-40 min drive to most activity areas.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our 4 day stay. The location worked well for our interest in exploring Volcano National Park, Hilo, and generally the eastern side of the Big Island. The apartment is beautifully decorated, very comfortable, and with every convenience one might want. The gardens on the property are spectacular, with the screened lanai dining area providing the feeling of our own Hawaiian paradise experience. Our thanks to Patrick and Sandra for their hospitality.

Sandra's airbnb was the perfect getaway! The unit was clean and spacious, and beautifully well-kept. We made use of the large attached lanai by grilling up a delicious dinner! The bed was large and comfortable, and the ceiling fans kept us nice and cool. Also we were decent driving distance to lava viewing, warm springs, hilo, and the volcano national park.

Sandra made us feel very unwelcome. We arrived before 3pm but were happy to wait. We felt Sandra could have dealt with the situation with a little more professionalism. Her behaviour was incredibly unsuited to someone in the hospitality business. On 3pm we were checked in and Sandra's husband's comments included 'oh, you won't be wanting to cook will you?' On hiring a place with a kitchen, of course we did. I would not recommend this place to an animal. Horrible people. Left us feeling disgusted.

Sandra welcomed us and gave us private during my stay. At first, I was a little bit surprised since we had to drive about 6 km from the road, but, the place itself was a lot better than the pictures and i was so sorry we spent only one night there. If I come back to Big Island again, I'll definitely stay at Sandra's retreat during my whole trip.

Most magic guesthouse with perfect garden! It feels like living in a sunshine paradise. Everyone will definitely love this place. Upon arriving, we were welcomed by Mary's hospitality and all the flowers and fruits in the botanical garden. Mary was an awesome host, preparing fruits and flowers to welcome us, giving all the advices of interesting places as well as taking us a magic tour in her lovely garden. Really unforgettable experience. The location is good within 40min driving to Volcano Park and Manoa Kea, 25min to tide pool and warm springs. Quite a few interesting eating choices in Pahoa in 15min driving. Also KTA, Safeway and Walmart not far on North. My husband and I did enjoy staying here and will come back again!

Mary provided many helpful suggestions in visiting the area. Many of these ideas are on sheets in the room for the guests convenience. Mary was kind and friendly and truly made you feel at ease. I look forward to visiting again Thanks to her for all she did.

We had a wonderful stay at Jade's house. The apartment is annexed to her house, with a private entrance. The rooms are spacious, very confortable and clean, with plenty of sunlight from large windows. The apartment is fully equiped. We especially enjoyed the patio, where we could have breakfast in what seems to be a luxurious jungle. The garden around the house is beautiful. Mary is a very good host. She gave us good tips for places to visit (and how to get there!). She even provided us with a nice welcoming fruit basket. We fully recommend this apartment!

Location, location, location! Jade Ohana located in Paradise Park which is not far away from the volcanoes national park & Maune Kea. The place is well-maintained & clean. My husband likes the bush setting & we took a night to get used to the sound of birds & frogs. Mary is very friendly & helpful. She suggested us to go to the nearby tidal pool which we rated the best spot for snorkeling, even better than Oahu & Kona. We enjoyed the stay in Hilo very much!

We enjoyed our stay at the Jade Ohana earlier this month. The place is situated on a beautiful tropical almost-jungle paradise with numerous fruit trees and flowers all around. I can highly recommend Jade Ohana. Mary Porter is a fabulous host who is very kind, caring and personal. Jade Ohana is great, quiet place where you can relax surrounded by a beautiful garden and close to key sites on the east part of the island.

Although the original description of Patricia's listing was bare (only provides a photo of the kitchen), I was pleasantly surprised with the rental once we arrived. We were greeted by her nice friend as Patricia was unable to be there herself that late in the day. The location is remote (15 min to nearest market/shops), as we wanted, to experience living among the locals. The rental was beautiful and unique. The only thing I wish the unit supplied was air conditioner and different material bedding. It was very humid and so the jersey bedding made for an uncomfortable sleep; if there was working a/c, it would have been perfect!

Our stay in Patricia's Tree Top Sanctuary was the accommodation highlight of the two-week trip to the islands. It was gorgeous and comfortable, and we hated to leave this property to head to a hotel. This expansive property was so peaceful and warm. Over an acre of secluded land in the forest. Natural light flooded the living space- huge windows, skylights, lofted ceiling- the works. The space was filled with artistic and natural objects- really warm and comfortable. The quiet of the forest with the sound of hypnotic coqui tree frogs added to the ambience. Patricia went to great lengths to make us feel at home- giving us tea, snacks, chocolates and great information about the island: She was the consummate host. The location was also excellent for visiting the Volcanic Park and the East coast of the Big Island. I would love to come back here and wouldn't miss it if I were heading back to the big Island.

Patricia was a really good host. She was very friendly and welcoming. She provided us with a lot of information about the local Hawaiian culture.The cottage was really well set up with a nice decor. We loved our stay in this unit and would go back again when we go to Big Island.

I really enjoyed my stay in this rental. I loved listening to the sounds of the jungle. Patrice has done a wonderful job decorating, I enjoyed the detailed decor and her paintings. Keep in mind that this unit is in the jungle the outdoor space is great, but don't be surprised if you see a critter or two make it's way inside. Patrice and her friend were great at offering suggestions on things to do in the area which were much appreciated.

Patricia is a sweet and welcoming host, and was helpful and willing to fulfill all requests. The apartment is clean, comfortable, well-appointed, well worth the price, and just as beautiful as described. You can see jungle trees, coconut palms, and orchids from every window, and I loved to hear the rain on the metal roof at night. The location is great if you want to explore the Puna region--close to Hilo, 10 minutes from Pahoa, and 3 minutes from beautiful ocean cliffs to watch the sunrise (by car). The area was nice and quiet, besides the coqui frogs and roosters that are ubiquitous to any true jungle area of the Big Island. Our only complaint was the water pressure--there is plenty of good hot water from the catchment system, but a pressure pump is needed to boost it enough so that you can wash your hands after flushing for example, or to make the shower more than a trickle. I hope that Patricia will make that improvement to make this place truly perfect. Mahalo for everything Patricia!

Very cute place that had almost all of the amenities of home. Very, very clean. Felt like I was staying in a close family friend's finished basement/in-law suite. Set in a quiet neighborhood not too far from Hilo. John let us use snorkeling and boogey boarding gear - super cool. Also left behind some passion fruit and star fruit the day we left.

John and his wife (and dog) were most welcoming and extremely hospitable! The location was peaceful and removed from noise (save the wonderful frogs at night). Tons of things to utilize such as bikes, boards, and snorkeling gear. Highly recommended for those in search of a quiet, quaint piece of paradise.

John and his family were very welcoming. The downstairs unit is beautifully decorated and very clean. It's obvious that John has put a lot of thought into the rental and tries to make sure you have everything you could possibly need. The house is in a great location for exploring Volcanoes National Park, Hilo and the Puna distract. Plus, it's just a short walk through a quiet neighborhood to the ocean. One of my favorite things was listening to the frogs at night.

A hidden oasis off the beaten track. The Bamboo Garden is more than just a room and ensuite bathroom; there's a kitchenette, mini-fridge, living area with TV and DVD player and patio - you basically have your own apartment! The property itself is surrounded by some of the most beautiful Hawaiian plant life. Falling asleep at night with the windows open to the sounds of nature was definitely the highlight of our stay. John, Maria & their adorable pooch were such great hosts. Prior to our arrival, John sent detailed instructions on how to get to the property (it's about 30mins outside of Hilo). Once we arrived, John greeted us and gave us a quick tour of our place. Fresh towels, soap, toothpaste, water, snacks and all the amenities you could imagine were provided. There were even surfboards, boogie boards, snorkel gear, bicycles and head lamps that were available to use. It was a great ending to a wonderful trip on the Big Island! Make sure you pop in the ukulele tutorial DVD and learn the 4 cords.. it's life changing!
