  • The house is very spacious and comfortable. Very well equipped. The host is very gracious and extremely welcoming. We had everything we needed and more than expected.

  • A 5 star Airbnb. Location is great, close to downtown for foods and grocery, but not far from the attractions. Space: It is super clean and there are lots of thoughtful touches provided by the host. The space is huge and would be great for a big family. Communication: Morris and Yuka are very helpful, everything including local tips and supermarket coupon are provided from our communication. I’d highly recommend Morris and Yuka’s place for whoever would like to visit Hilo.

    Caroline2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Morris is a five-star host only because they don’t make 10 stars! Morris was very attentive to our needs and showed a level of generosity that is rare in today’s world. We felt welcome and at ease with Morris immediately and it was very clear that he wanted everything to be just right for us....and it was! I recommend staying at this location without hesitation!

    Timothy2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We were 6 adults and 1 kid stayed for 2 days. When we arrived in, Moris welcomed us warmly. The house was big and clean. He prepared everything such as kid toys, full kitchen, washing machine, winter cloth, welcome frute breakfast and the small gift. We also liked outdoor bbq grill. It's little difficult to find the entry od house from the highway but we didn't suffer from the road noisy. We definitely recommend this house to everyone.

  • I had a wonderful time with my family! There were playground equipment for children aged 0 and 4 to be able to play with fun, and the response was quick and complete. I want to stay again!

    Noritaka2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • We’ve stayed in a lot of Air B&Bs over the years but Morris was by far the most wonderful host we’ve met. Great communication, local tips, fruit and breakfast provided for the first day. The house has everything you could possibly need from beach equipment to coolers to a karaoke machine! Highly recommended.

    Rosie2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is a hostel with attentive consideration from the host. The house is very clean and there is no shortage for me.

    Sooji2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a great week at Morris and Yuka’s place in Keaau. We were amazed by the amenities in the house - it was extremely well stocked with everything you could need and then some! I always wish for a lighted magnifying makeup mirror (which is usually only found in really fine hotels) - well guess what! We were also amazed by the gifts of food that were waiting for us - fruit, coffee, candy, wine, bottled water, eggs, rolls, jam, butter, and sausage. I thought that was very generous. The listing was very clear and accurate about the road noise - this did not bother us, but it might bother some. There were also frog and bird noises, which, again, did not bother us. We liked that we could recycle and send our fruit and veggie scraps to the compost pile, like we do at home. The location was safe and convenient to Hilo and the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Morris was a great communicator, and we corresponded frequently through Airbnb whenever I had questions. It was a great stay and a good getaway from the cold upstate NY winter. Mahalo to Morris and Yuka!

Make this hawaiian home, bordering serene Makuu Homestead, surrounded by an opulent natural tropical garden, your special retreat. Three miles from the ocean, and a mile from the main highway, Hawaiian Jungle Hangout offers easy access to eastside highlights--30 minutes from Pohoiki bay (newest black sand beach/part of the 870 acres added from new lava last winter), 35 minutes from Volcano National Park, 20 minutes from Hilo airport, 10 minutes from Keaau town, and 10 minutes from Pahoa Village. The hangout offers 1600 sq. feet of living space. A full kitchen, two bedrooms, plus a den which has a sleeper sofa that opens to a queen round, in a comfortable home on a lush acre of tropical fruits and native plant. Explore the garden within lava rock flows. A memorable place to make your home during your vacation or business stay. Also available on the property is asian fused tropical Hawaiian Jungle Hut. Next to the main house with a separate entrance, the hut is perfect for a couple or single guest, having it's own full bathroom, living room, inside washer and dryer, and kitchenette with a tiki bar. I am usually there, but the hut is also wireless and cable connected and available as a separate rental whenever I'm away.
  • Lovely place and very lovely host

    Racil2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • The place is a gem. Lovely house and area just around the corner from Hilo. Liz was caring and had lots of advices and tips. Would love to return. Mahalo

    Manuel2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Liz's place is fantastic for a couple/family/group of friends who want to just relax in a large space. Very close to Hilo and some nice restaurants the other way (Pahoa?). Liz was extremely responsive via text message and was able to send the housekeeper when we needed help! Mahalo!

  • Secluded comfortable roomy house includes washer/dryer very comfortable

    Duane2020-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • We are so happy we stayed at Liz's place! The house was on a beautiful private rainforest road (her other rental is attached but we never saw or heard the other renters during our stay). We got there super late but check in is via keypad so it worked out. The house had so much of what we needed. A coffee maker, plenty of coffee filters, cooking oil, spices, enough towels and plates/silverware for all of us, and aloe vera. It's about 15 minutes from Target and other stores, about 2 houes to the Kona side, 20 from airport, and 40 from Volcano national park, but the drive everywhere was incredibly beautiful so we did not mind driving everyday. We saw about 2 geckos every night, we did not mind it but they are unavoidable, so keep in mind if that bothers you. AC worked fine and I was able to sleep through the loud nightly rain but 2 of the people in my group were woken up often from it. So again just keep in mind that if you are a light sleeper you will need ear plugs. Would stay here again and highly recommend!

  • A wonderful place that is clean and quiet with 360 degree views of lush, green forest.

    Pete2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • We got a lot of information before we arrived. Liz explained everything around the house and sent us a lot of information about the area. When we arrived at the house after a long day all of us were so happy because the house was huge and had more than we needed. We really enjoyed staying at the hangout!

    Kornelia2019-11-28T00:00:00Z
  • Great home great location. Loved listening to the sounds of the jungle at night! The communication was a bit much. Too many emails and details. Didnt need to know which cupboard cups were in ect as I can figure all that stuff out so had a hard time finding the time on my trip to sit and read through all the pages of emails. Also bbq wasnt usable as it was covered in mold but other then that the trip and house was fantastic. Loved the decor. Had a great feel and felt like home away from home. Thanks Liz!

A place for solitude, rest and relaxation, from which to enjoy the wonders of Puna and the east side of the Big Island. Come experience the raw beauty of a lava eruption. The land has been transformed. Fissure 8 and the hardened lava flow is a 10- minute walk from our home. This is destruction & creation; We and the surrounding community of Puna have been transformed by this experience Our guests leave restored and in awe of the magic of this area.
Welcome to Paradise. Our home sits upon a hilltop overlooking the Pacific in the distance. One hears the rustle of palm leaves, tropical birds and coqui frogs at night. The setting is truly beautiful and nurturing with a spacious lawn, fresh tropical fruits and vegetables, caressing breezes and even frequent rainbows. There is a deep sense of peace here. You will be renting a self-contained apartment located on the bottom floor of our home. The wrap-around lanai (porch) overlooks a lush and gorgeous property with ever-present sunshine and cool breezes. There is comfortable porch furniture, a large new barbeque and a wide hammock in the yard. The apartment has two bedrooms, each with its own queen-size bed. There is a full bathroom with walk-in shower, as well as a private, outdoor shower. Between the two bedrooms are a sitting area and kitchenette. The kitchenette includes a sink, full refrigerator, microwave, electric cooktop with two burners, toaster-oven, Keurig coffee maker, French Press, Magic Bullet (shake maker) and all necessary kitchen utensils and condiments (e.g., coffee, tea, salt, pepper, olive oil, basic spices). Our home is centrally located in lower Puna. The rustic town of Pahoa is five miles to the north; the Pacific is five miles to the south. There are many intentional communities a few miles from the house: e.g., Hawaiian Sanctuary (yoga, permaculture, and Hawaiian culture). Our property is 40 minutes from the attractions of Hilo and about one hour from Volcano National Park. North of Hilo are the awesome Akaka Falls and the spectacular Hawaii Tropical Gardens. One could easily spend a week here and not see everything. Guests are encouraged to use us as a resource in planning their stay. We can recommend the best places to go swimming, dancing, yoga, massage, etc. There are a rich variety of places to eat in the area, which are included in a resource book (translated into Chinese, French, German, Japanese and Korean) that we have created for our guests. We love where we live and enjoy sharing our excitement. Sitting on the lanai or strolling on the property, one experiences a dance of tropical weather, an interplay of bright sunshine, billowy, drifting clouds, soft rain showers, and the sensual feel of trade winds. Make this place a home base for your exploration of lower Puna and the east side of Big Island. The price includes the following Hawaiian taxes: Transient Accommodations Tax: 10.4% General Excise Tax: 4.0% No security deposit is required.
In our opinion, Puna is the most fascinating and lush area of Big Island. From Kalapana to Kopoho, from the Red Road to Pahoa--you will be experiencing the richness of living in a tropical rainforest. This is the furthest eastern part of the Hawaiian Islands and has a special place in Hawaiian lore. It attracts those who are adventurous, seeking to expand their spirits, and desiring to live in congruence with nature. It is our belief that there are a very high percentage of mindful people who live here.
  • Robert and Konrad's place is a peaceful small sanctuary surrounded by lush vegetation and flowering trees. It is truly a special place to relax, far removed from the demands of the outside world. The beds are very comfy and the kitchenette has all one needs to make coffee/tea and cook a meal. Perhaps the best part of the home is the lanai which has a lovely sitting area and is lit up with warm bistro lights in the evening. Everything in this home is spotless and clean. So happy to have the opportunity to stay with them!

    Charles2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • First off they are goals ok!!! They property it self is so amazing! Everything you would need they provides. From chargers, bathroom amenities, a tour book, even provided eggs, bread, and fruit from their garden. They even have a washer and dryer for your use! The patio is so nice to sit and relax at night and the bistro lights adds just the right touch. It’s so peaceful just listening to the bird sitting out there early in the mornings! The beds were so comfortable. Honestly Robert was so nice and inviting, and the place is amazing highly recommend.

    Deangelo2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Konrad and Roberts place was wonderful. Located in a quiet neighborhood with nature all around which helped for winding down after a busy day. We would recommend to anyone and definitely book again ourselves!

    Matt2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had the best stay here. Directions were super simple to get there. Konrad welcomed us and showed us around the property. They supplied us with all the essentials and more. The bed we slept in was very comfortable. Great local tips in the book for where to eat and things to do. They are very easy to communicate with and happy to answer questions. Hope to be staying here on the next trip! Highly recommend Konrad and Robert's place for your trip!

    Julia2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • We had an incredible stay at Konrad and Robert's place - if you are looking for a place to decompress and experience the natural beauty and history of the Big Island, we highly recommend staying here! Konrad and Robert left us everything that we could have possibly needed to feel like we were at our own home, including fresh fruit from their garden and some items to make breakfast. We also appreciated their recommendations for food and things to do in the area (all organized in a binder with guidebooks for additional reference). Coming back at night from a day of exploring to the sounds of coqui frogs and occasional light rain was magical, and we sat on the lanai every morning with our coffee enjoying the sunrise and the view of their property. We would love to return some day and hope that other visitors enjoy their stay as much as we did. Konrad and Robert, thank you for being such thoughtful, wonderful hosts!

    Deanna2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • If you are wondering if you should stay here - the answer is yes. Don't hesitate, book it! The area is great in general, but staying here with Konrad and Robert made it truly divine! Upon our arrival they greeted us in person, and had prepared an extraordinary fruit bowl, and set us up with bread, eggs, creamer, etc! The home itself is stylish, comfortable, and cozy. Beds are great! Robes were provided and all the towels you could ever need. The porch is divine, and is where we spent all of our evenings and mornings. The hammock swings are very comfortable, and the full exterior dining table has room for everyone! The kitchen is perfect for preparing home cooked meals and there is a grill (imagine grilled pineapple at sunset 😍) I haven't even mentioned my very favorite part yet! The outdoor shower. This is a divine sunrise and sunset experience. There is also a beautiful indoor shower, but the outdoor one is spectacular! The binder in the house had great local recommendations for meals, experiences and we got some of our best tips from this! The home is situated on stunning grounds with manicured gardens! It is also located very near to the 2018 lava flow, which Robert reminded us to be respectful when visiting as there have been issues with tourists coming in to see it. He told us we could state that we were his guests if someone asked, and that made us feel very comfortable. Other highlights: came fully stocked in regards to shampoo/conditioner/etc. It had a washer and dryer with soap/etc. Rumba to clean the floors! Hands down one of the best experiences our group has ever had traveling. Amazing job guys!!

    Alyssa2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • The place is a beautiful and quiet home with lovely hosts! Robert greeted us kindly and has nice suggestions on where to go. I would definitely recommend!

  • Robert and Konrad are thoughtful hosts. Pāhoa is wicked cool we just loved the vibe and local recommendations our hosts provided. Hope to be back again soon. The place is clean and beautiful. Amazing landscaping and so incredible to see the results of the 2018 lava so nearby. We kept saying to each other every morning “another day in paradise.” ❤️❤️❤️

  • Amazing, cute cabin surrounded with beautiful wilderness of rain forest. Looks and feels like right out of a fairytale. No doubt i will call Anzu again when me and my fiance are back at this beautiful iceland!

  • Such a beautiful, peaceful space to feel connected to the land and the local community. Great tips on local experiences, friendly hosts, and a truly Hawaiian experience. I cannot recommend staying here enough.

    Angela2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is pretty much perfect for 2 persons. There's a small kitchen to cook small meals in, a great hot water shower, a small sofa, bean bags for sitting around, even 2 lanais! It always feels welcoming, peaceful, and warm, which is exactly what you'd want to come back to after a day of exploring this awesome bit of land. It's close enough to Hilo for a convenient drive away, but just far enough to be surrounded by lush greens by day, and stars by dark night. Also keep an eye out for magnificent neon green lizards with hot pink stripes who hang at the lanai. Anzu and Bill are perfect hosts - welcoming, full of helpful information about things to do, and also gives a lot of space. It's one of the best places I've stayed in through Airbnb, so wld totally recommend this!

    Jac2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • This place is great! A cute little cabin with a little distance between the main house and the cabin to keep things private. Bill and Anzu are great hosts who made an effort to give recommendations for things to do on the island that I might have missed otherwise. The cabin has everything you need for a comfortable stay, and the two decks (one out front, and one behind the cabin) are great for taking in the beautiful greenery. They also provide snorkelling gear and beach towels. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for a peaceful stay a little ways out of the city.

    Jordan2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin is so relaxing. The surrounding plants and cool breeze with floral scents made our vacation week the best we ever had. No television was a real plus.

    Arlene2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Tucked away from the city, this is a wonderful place to feel like you're hanging out in a tree house. I was only there briefly, but enjoyed the stars and sounds of nature. Wonderful hospitality!

    Katie2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful and peaceful. Location is perfect for accessing Hilo and the National Park.

    Danielle2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • Peaceful and calm house in a big garden. My kids loved to stroll around. Also Anzu and Bill, which are living close, are very kind and helpful. It is a place where we would come back!

  • This is exactly as advertised with a private rainforest feel. Almost like being in a botanical garden.

  • Excellent place overall, with great hosts, nice easy to get to tropical location and a fantastic value. The hosts responded quickly, were very friendly and very helpful in helping us find beautiful places to check out nearby. Pahoa is nearby and is a really cute town, and Hilo/Volcano/awesome coastline/activities are a short drive as well. Will definitely be back to stay! Thanks Steve and Elizabeth!

    Dave2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Peaceful location with great views right out of bed! Amazing to be right in the trees surrounded by nature. Would love to stay here again!

  • If you want a place off the beaten path, and kinda remote, this is it. Surrounded by foliage and animal sounds, it is a great place to experience Hawaii. Large bedroom and very private. Host met us initially to introduce us to the place, and was helpful with suggestions concerning Hawaii travel and adventures. We would stay again.

    Craig2020-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • Super cute spot! Highly recommend.

Located in the beautiful Puna rainforest on three acres. A 400 sq. ft. private studio. A lovely rental for a vacation or retreat. Walking paths under a mango forest, beautiful grounds to enjoy. Near the Hilo airport, ocean, and Volcano National Park.
The lovely location is magnificent, simply lush and green. The studio is set up like your living outdoors, but also sheltered from the elements. We are in a tropical setting so we do have tree frogs that sing all night, I do have ear plugs in the unit, most visitors don't even use them, they seem to love the frogs.
Namaste Estates is 3 acres of mango forest and lawns, fenced in and private. You can see no neighbors, the setting is breath taking.
  • This was our second time at Toms house and it’s amazing every time. Truly my favorite air bnb experience that exists!

    Kristen2020-03-21T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay here. The cabin was nice and clean. You can hear the birds chirping throughout the day and the coqui frogs 🐸 all night. The outdoor shower is awesome and one of my favorite parts about the stay.

    Abigael2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Tom’s Namaste estates far exceeded our expectations! This is a sacred place of beauty, peace, and a beautiful nocturnal orchestra of tree frogs. Tom gave us a private sound bath with his singing bowls, magical! If you are looking for paradise, look no further than namaste estates. Magnificent energy abounds here, perfect place to pause and reset.

  • Beautiful place and gracious host

    Caroline2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Tom is a wonderful host. Very polite and knowledgeable on the island. Would absolutely book agian. In the cooler months since there’s no a/c lol I get hot easily but it was wonderful for both of us

    Kevin2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • It was such a lovely experience being surrounded by the jungle in Tom's beautiful garden. It was the highlight of our trip so far. I also loved the outdoor shower. Tom is extremely friendly and accommodating.

    Vanessa2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Tom and Bea's beautiful estate literally took our breath away and stole our hearts. We stayed for 5 days and fell absolutely in love with this slice of paradise on earth. At night, we slept like babies, lulled to sleep by the lovely sounds of the rainforest and the fresh, beautifully scented air. During the day, we explored the gorgeous and thoughtfully, intricately designed grounds, stopping to meditate by the statues and plant and tree arrangements. Everything in the chalet was perfect. The space was lovely and whimsical and peaceful. The kitchen was great for cooking. The bed was very comfortable. The outdoor shower and toilet were wonderful, private, and so refreshing. And what to say of Tom and Bea? You won't find kinder people around. Hands down our favourite place (and airbnb!) ever. Thank you so, so much for bringing so much peace and happiness into our lives.

    Eva2020-02-19T00:00:00Z

    Christopher2020-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • We thought the bungalow was wonderful! It was clean and felt remote which made it very peaceful. The only con is that it is at least a 10 minute drive to anything, even further for Hilo or volcano national park- just something to keep in mind.

    Megan2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • What a gem of a cottage! So clean and cozy with everything we needed to enjoy our stay on the Big Island! We loved the privacy and sounds of birds, frogs and rain on the roof. Thank-you!

  • Cute, clean, and cozy bungalow. Feeling of seclusion greets you, and a few geckos 🦎 About halfway between Hilo and Pahoa. Nicely equipped. Friendly hosts. Would recommend.

    Cynthia2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • The house was phenomenal! The neighbourhood is so peaceful and it just takes you to a different reality. Definitely a good house to star gaze (for those of you who are into astrology) if you’re looking to get away from your everyday routine, this house is the perfect place to be!

    Tony Suriya2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • This bungalow is a perfect home base for a few days in and around Hilo. It is tucked away from other homes, so you feel like there's nobody else around. There are no street lights on the road, which made for incredible stargazing. They also provide snorkels, beach towels, and beach chairs. It was also so easy to get to and from the airport, and only about 40 minute drive from Volcanoes National Park. This spot is a gem!

    Akanksha2020-02-19T00:00:00Z

    Jakob2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was very charming !!! Everything you would expect from the charm of a Hawaiian cottage, simple with few kitchen elements. Ashley is the most helpful host I've ever seen ! I had problems with car rental and she was so helpful and reactive to help me find a solution. Thank you again so much !!

    Constance2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was very clean and I enjoyed the bathroom in the garden, even though I had to walk 1 min to get there. It was fun to hear the frogs at night and the birds during the day. The frogs could be a bit loud sometimes, but their song quickly became white noise. Overall, a very nice experience! Thank you!

  • Very clean and comfortable place to stay, great location with grocery stores within at 10 minute drive. Close to Hilo and to a black sand beach to the south. Easy check in and Mark was quick and concise with communication, I honestly have no complaints about the stay.

  • Very clean space with comfortable bed! Easy to find and convenient for adventuring south of hilo! Be sure to bring water as most homes are on catchment in this area

    Brittney2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • This location is perfect. It's very close to Volcano National Park, so we were able get to the park early. The room is nicely furnished with everything you need. The bed is extremely comfortable and the bathroom is a great size. Can't say enough good things about this place!!!

    Kate2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • This place was perfect for us. Cleanliness is always top priority. We got in late and Mark made sure the lights were on waiting for us. On the bed were clear instructions, a guide book for the island and an already purchased entrance fee for the week for the nation park. Little details make it. A cooler, beach chairs and towels. Even ear plugs. (although its so quiet I'm not sure who would need them). We never needed the air conditioning. The window open was cool enough. And we felt safe the whole time. I will say, it is a small place. If you pack a lot it may annoy you to be stepping over your bags. We pack light and found the space just right. You're never in the room anyways. Thanks Mark! We'll be back.

    Bree2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • The room is just as advertised. It was clean, comfortable and has everything you need to make a simple breakfast and a cup of coffee. If you’re on a budget and have a rental car this place is a great option and I would not hesitate to stay here again.

  • David was a great host and we really enjoyed our stay at his place! It was very clean, big, comfortable and had everything we needed. It's in a great location, close to the ocean and is in a beautiful neighborhood. We definitely recommend it to anyone traveling through and hope to stay there again next time we're in the area. Thanks again David!

  • Great place for the money. So hard to find reasonably priced places without exorbitant cleaning fees on Airbnb any more but this is an exception. Well appointed, easy check in/out, nice and quiet area.

    Justin2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • House was very central to places that we wanted to visit. Driving to and from his house was very easy and we felt very central. The bed was so amazing and soft! The house itself is very clean and well equipped for our needs. The ceiling fans I thought would not be enough to make the house nice and cool to sleep in, but I was very wrong. If it’s not enough for yourself, the host has extra portable fans in the house already if needed. He was a great host and very response, would defiantly recommend the house.

  • The hosts were very friendly and super helpful, the kids enjoyed making s'mores and the hot tub nested in nature was super relaxing, this cute place beats any fancy hotel in my opinion, we enjoyed what I would call, luxury camping, we will be back in the future for sure!

  • Amazing space. If you have the chance to stay here, do so. Great value. The cottage is right next to their house, but I hardly ever heard noise from them and whenever I saw them they were incredibly nice. Ashley was super quick to respond to the questions we had while we were there, and they gave us plenty of privacy. The space is very very well-done, and lots of little thoughtful touches that added up to make the space so wonderful. The shower especially was super cool.

Hale Pama (House of Palms) is located in Hawaiian Paradise Park, conveniently and centrally located to quickly access Hilo with it's historic old town, restaurants, farmer's markets, museums and the tropical gardens and sights of the Big Island's east coast. Hosts and owners Kathy and Charles Wood, have purposely created a guest house to deliver a resort-like level of comfort, amenities, privacy and location to enhance your exploration of Hawaii's Big Island. Hale Pama is nestled within a small Ohia forest, populated with palms and tropical plants, located privately away from the host's main home, also on the same property. When you're not out exploring the Big Island, you can relax in comfort for the extremely affordable cost per night of Hale Pama. Constructed in 2016, Hale Pama has been purposely designed for comfort year round. An interior space of 500 square feet provides comfortable accommodation for three adults. Unlike most construction in Hawaii, Hale Pama is thoroughly insulated for quiet and comfort. A coated concrete floor remains cool year round. Ceiling fans are provided in the bedroom, living area and on each lanai. The main bedroom will be configured as two twin beds or one king bed to meet your preference before your arrival. A Serta sofa bed is provided for a third guest. Air conditioning is now available by guest request via a mini-split heat pump system (effective Aug 10, 2017). Due to the high cost of electricity in Hawaii and in our efforts to keep our daily rental rate as low as possible, there is a $3.00 daily electrical surcharge for use of the air conditioning/dehumidifying system. Most of the time air conditioning will not be required and the ceiling fans will maintain your comfort. Guests electing for AC make payment on arrival or on a daily basis. Big Island visitors come to explore and relax, but more and more our world is connected. Hale Pama is served by solid Verizon and ATT wireless service. High speed internet service is provided at no additional charge by wifi. For those evenings when you want to relax and watch a movie, you can choose a title from our DVR library or from the premium movie and entertainment channels on DISH Network or streaming video from Amazon, including HBO, and Netflix on a 48" flat screen 4K UHDTV. If you prefer to prepare your own meals, you may do so efficiently and quickly. A small refrigerator, microwave, convection counter top oven and induction skillet are provided in the well equipped wet bar area. A propane gas-fired five burner BBQ/grill is available on the north lanai just outside the kitchen/living area. Hale Pama Rental Terms: Payment in Full in advance. Directions and street address will be provided with confirmation of rental. Full refund if cancellation occurs 30 days before scheduled arrival. 50% refund at 16-29 days before arrival. No refund if cancelled within 15 days of arrival. Two day minimum rental with three days suggested in order to experience all the windward side of the Big Island offers. Stay six days and receive an additional day free. An additional $10.00 per night for a third guest. Cleaning Fee: We have a minimal $30.00 charge for cleaning essentials, laundry, etc. To assist us in maintaining a low fee, we ask that you use the recycle and garbage receptacles we provide. Check in 3:00-10:00pm, on day of arrival, early check in may be available. Check out 11:00 am on day of departure, late checkout may be possible.
Convenient to Pahoa, farmer's markets, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Hilo, coffee farms, museums, parks, beaches, whale watching (in season), five minutes from ocean shore walks, historic sites and museums, historic lava flows, botanical gardens, Mauna Kea observatories.
  • Hale Pama - a guest cottage and the garden is a true paradise where your privacy is valued. Charles and Kathy were incredibly hospitable and nice and provided us with many local tips. Location is perfect with easy drive to anywhere while staying on the east side but staying away from the crowds. Mahalo Charles & Kathy for everything:)

  • Help Charles promote a wave in China. Their house is awesome and needs to be driven by car. You can find it directly on Google Map Navigation “HALE PAMA”. After that, you need to contact Charles to open the door so that the car can drive in. House can be said to have everything, even snorkeling tools, can save you a wave of money. Charles himself is also very enthusiastic. Although I am not good at English, he will try to talk to you. A very enthusiastic host.

    Tim2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • Charles's place will be beyond your expectation. We arrived late and lost our driving license on the way. It is so nice of Charles and his wife to let us concel our following two nights booking within an acceptable loss. Charles even gave us a life-saving ride to downtown when we were incapable of driving a car. The apartment is about twenty-five minutes driving from Hilo airport and has a gorgeous environment. Let me put it this way, you can clearly see stars by just lifting up your head...

    晓维2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Nice new cottage with beautiful landscaping. It was gated and the host met us to welcome us and give us keys. Nice soaps and welcome binder. A car is a must and best to arrive when it’s still light as the road is very dark.

Our location is central to all the sights on the east side of the Big Island. Hilo is only a short drive and offers many restaurants, museums and galleries. Visit the Botanical Garden just north of Hilo off route 19. If you are a surfer or buggee boarder or like to watch surfing visit Hononlii Beach Park also off route 19 north of Hilo. See an amazing display of colorful tropical fish and turtles while snorkeling at Richardson's Beach Park or Paddle Board at Reeds Bay both in Hilo. You can rent snorkel gear and paddle boards at nearby Hilo Ocean Adventures. Pahoa is a fun nearby village to visit. It has several fine restaurants, grocery stores and a interesting little museum.
  • Very nice place to stay close to everything on the Hilo side of the island!

    Kaysha2020-03-21T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay very much. It was more spacious than the picture looked and it was a good location to get to the grocery stores. He also gave helpful local tips and responded quickly.

  • Clean and private bedroom, very peaceful, and clear instructions!

    Jonathan2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • We barely spoke with Mark, which is exactly what we wanted. The place was exactly how it's described, and check in was easy.

    Grant2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Mark's place was great! Excellent communication both before and during our stay. Very clean and attractive space, with a great bathroom and strong wifi. We slept very well there. We loved hearing the frogs (?) at night. He offers beach chairs for use, which we took advantage of. If you can, bring a filtered water bottle, as the drinking water near Hilo (and on the Big Island, in general) isn't the best. We found the location to be great. It's a great spot for getting to Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, Uncle Robert's, Hilo, and beyond. We would gladly return.

    Michael2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • The place is clean, spacious, private and in a beautiful area surrounded by nature. Check-in was super easy! I totally recommend this place. Great cost for all you have.

    Rodrigo2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • We only stayed here one night but the place was exactly as pictured. Very clean and had all amenities we could need. Will definitely stay again when we’re in the area!

    Alyssa2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • What a GREAT place, I LOVED it! Location is perfect to check out the 2018 lava flow and the beautiful old & new beaches, it's also close to Hilo & Volcano National Park. Very clean, very comfy bed, large bath, little kitchenette with everything you need, awesome "outdoor" living room and even a little lanai in the beautiful garden. You'll hear birds & frogs, it's so peaceful and quiet :) I ABSOLUTELY loved staying here and will for sure book it again next time. Mark lives on the property and is always available. It was very nice meeting you, mahalo you for having me :)

Beautiful jungle home close to many attractions, 30 minutes from hilo town, the volcano national park, and the new black sand beach that was formed from this recent eruption. One of the only other beaches on this side of the island is just a five minute drive down the street. There is a hike involved and we are glad to give you directions. The house is surrounded by edible trees and native plants. We welcome anyone to our house all we ask is that you please take care and respect it!
The house sits on a well manicured 1 acre property that’s very secure and fenced in. All you can see from the porch front and back is just jungle! You will be meditatively put to sleep at night by the sound of the coqui frogs! It is a two level house there is a separate unit downstairs that my father and occasionally myself stay. You have your own private entrance and your own kitchen and bathroom as well as two very scenic porches. There’s one master bedroom with a queen size bed that sleeps too we can also accommodate a third guest with a blowup mattress in the living room.
The neighborhood is very scenic and quiet.
  • Nice, friendly place to stay while exploring Puna, Hilo and Volcano NP. Will return in the future.

  • Great place! Uncle Dave is awesome and helpful, location was easy to get into and easy to find your way back. Very comfy and felt like home! Mahalo!

    Jahdiel2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures do not make justice to this wonderful place. We had an awesome stay, lots of room, plus the hospitality and tips of a wonderful host and his puppies and kitties! The place is a bit hidden but you should have no trouble if you follow the indications. There is plenty of parking space, too, even if arriving in a bigger vehicle. The place is well ventilated. You will enjoy the coqui concert every night - we certainly did! Also, this is a good place if you enjoy cooking; the kitchen and dining spaces are top of the line, and there are good markets nearby. However, if you don't want to cook, there are many dining options on the nearby towns, and Hilo is just 10 min. away. Would definitely come back!

  • Ezra and Dave’s place was very warm and big spaced. House is so beautiful and we hope to see pretty girl and samson some day again. Aloha

  • Great spot to call home base. A very informative host with local tips and a welcoming space.

    Shannon2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • It is a good location about 20 minutes by car from the airport, but the surrounding area is quiet, clean and comfortable surrounded by greenery. The view from the second floor is fantastic, with views of the Mauna Kea peak from the trees. I will never forget Mauna Kea at sunset. The two dogs are also smart and friendly and will welcome us.

    HIROSHI2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Nice place.

    Jonathan2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Staying in Hawaiian Paradise Park was a great choice for us and Ezra's place felt very homey and perfect to come back to at the end of a long day. Dave, Samsung and Pretty Girl were great Hosts and became a part of our little family while we were there. Just a little note: There are little Coqui Frogs that chirp from Dusk till Dawn, which can make it difficult to sleep. Take ear Plugs if you are a light sleeper. This is not a deal breaker though, as I used ear Plugs and slept very well. We highly recommend Ezra's home, you will be glad that you did.

This beautiful and spacious 2 story 4 bedroom house set in a very safe neighborhood is set on a hill with a wonderful view of Keaau's lush land and the ocean view! This house has plenty of spots to gaze at the view including a large patio and large family room with a 65" TV and a dining table. The style is light bright and upscale, the high ceilings are finished natural wood and there is an archway that adds to the house's unique beautiful feel.
  • Daryl is a great host and is very friendly. Everything is very clean and the bedroom door has a key entry lock so you know your stuff is safe with other guests in the house.

  • Daryl is a nice, friendly person. His house is spacious and well decorated. Convenient location, I enjoyed every day staying at his house. The only pity is other guests never keep clean in the bathroom. I hope other guests can be more respectful to the next users. Recommend this place.

  • Anne was a great host and could not have been better at staying in touch. The location was beautiful and the view could not have been better. It’s a remote location, keep that in mind. It’s about 30 min to Hilo and 2 hours to Kona (where the weather is consistently better). We would have preferred to stay closer to Kona which was our issue not anything to do with the rental. We stay pretty active and being closer would have helped. If you’re more likely to stay close to the rental you’ll likely be very pleased.

    Tim2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great view the host is very quick in responding to any questions you have during your stay.

    Jessica2020-01-28T00:00:00Z

  • Anne Rene was very responsive and we very much enjoyed the rental and the beautiful location.

    Kerry2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Anne's place is lovely, right in front of the ocean and only 30 minutes from Hilo. We loved staying there. We booked her place at the very last minute, communication with her was very easy which was helpful. We had a bit of a misunderstanding around our check-out time (our fault), but both Anne and Mike were understanding and flexible as we scrambled to make things right. Thanks again for everything Anne, and we'll certainly look you up for our next visit to Hilo!

    Gemma2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Beautyful Apartment (House) at the ocean... If you looking for a private & quiet time - this is the place to be.

    Sonja2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • The location of Anne’s place just cannot be beaten. As it is literally steps from the cliffs of Kaloli Point, you will be lulled to sleep by the crashing waves and quaint noises of the coqui frogs. Quality furnishings make it feel like a resort hotel room (with complete kitchen and 1.5 bathrooms) yet with much more privacy in a secluded neighborhood. Yet, Keaau with its shops, grocery store and restaurants is only 10-15 mins away and Hilo only 25-30. The house is a perfect base to explore Hilo, the Volcano area, and the new black sand beaches at the end of the Kapoho-Kalapana Beach Rd (Rte 137) that resulted from the May 2018 lava flows. Don’t hesitate! Book ASAP — Anne is an extremely responsive and responsible host, and Mike was a kind and polite property manager.

    Rebecca2019-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • We spent 4 nights at Anne's place. Everything was very clean and there were more than enough towels, what we (also because of the whirlpool) really appreciated. If you're on a trip to Big Island this is the place to be.

This nicely furnished studio apartment is detached from the main home, and includes two twin beds and a double futon, a nicely equipped outdoor kitchen, and shares use of the covered veranda and deck. The indoor space is compact, and only suitable for one adult. The outdoor kitchen is perfect for this climate, and many great meals have been prepared here!
The Apartment's location is very convenient to highway 130 into Puna and to highway 11 which circles much of the island, so it's very convenient to Hilo, Pahoa, Kea'au, and Volcano, as well as a great home base for exploring the entire island. I love to share Big Island travel tips and trivia, my knowledge of Hawaiian plants and culture, and farm fresh eggs and produce with you!! Guests that are also animal lovers will be most happy here, as I have numerous cats, a small dog, and eight chickens.

  • We really enjoyed staying at Christina's place. It was sparkling clean and stylish. There're some restrictions like don't wash dishes in one of the sinks in the kitchen, don't leave food, etc. We once staid at a hotel with ants, so those restrictions are well justified!

    Andrey2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Very cool and well laid out slice of heaven. Fresh fruit all around and beautiful ocean views within walking distance. Lush and green... May want to bring ear plugs for sleeping if you’re a light sleeper (The sound of frogs may be a bit much if you’re not used to it). The place is simply gorgeous and very inviting! Love the outdoor shower!👍

    Erik2019-12-19T00:00:00Z
  • The property is very beautiful and much better in person than the photos show. There are motion sensor lights to help you out at night. The beds are comfortable. The oitdoor kitchen/dining area is more than you could ask for. Definitely reccomend this place.

    James2019-12-17T00:00:00Z
  • Christina was so thoughtful with her space and recommendations! This place was literally heaven if you are looking for a private stay in one of the prettiest spots in Hilo :)

    Jessica2019-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • This place is everything and more. It's close to the ocean where you can watch the sunrise/sunset, hammocks to lie in and listen to the sounds of the jungle, a full and modern kitchen, and comfortable lodging. It's also in-between the Volcanoes National Park and Manua Kea which made the place a perfect location to make day trips from. Christina is an amazing host and provides excellent instructions and information. You're literally in the jungle and can hear the ocean at the same time; it's an incredible experience and I would book this home again if I returned to Hilo.

    Elyse2018-11-28T00:00:00Z
  • Christina, Dale, and Elvis were amazing hosts. The place was absolutely beautiful, and was definitely a new experience for us. Lots of space and great interior decorating. The outside shower was a nice touch and very unique from other homes in the area. Location is great too, lots of great areas to explore around Hilo. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking to stay in the east side of the big mountain.

  • Had an awesome stay at John's place. The space itself is spacious, stylish and clean. The location is perfect for anyone visiting Hilo; it's close to downtown and all the sites, but tucked away in a private area. The kitchen and deck are perfect. John also drew a map for us to basically follow and enable us to do our own self-guided tour of the lava flows, beaches and other worthwhile adventures/things to do. Thanks John!

  • Our family really enjoyed our stay and will return again. Great value and many thoughtful extras that made our stay extra special.

    Camille2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • John was an excellent host who was easy to get a hold of, very flexible with our changing schedule, and super welcoming. His dog is also the cutest! John’s place was beautiful and super cute. He had thoughtful pieces, like earplugs for the casing of the chickens, and an espresso machine with instructions. Would definitely stay here again.

    Monica2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding!

    Daniela2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • John's place is truly as he calls it, the Hawaiian Paradise Cottage set in a neighborhood in Kea'au, which has all the charm one would expect from a home in Hawai'i...charming furniture, a nice, open kitchen, small library with a plethora of books and board games to peruse, big windows to let in all the glorious light (and cool breezes and of COURSE gorgeous views of the lovely garden out back!), and of course, a lanai with plenty of seating and quaint little lights to enjoy some outdoor time just relaxing! When we checked in we were a little early to the place and John had to meet us, and when he arrived we met his dog Paco, and he showed us in and around. He bought a combination lock just so we wouldn't have to deal with a key, which was very thoughtful and we felt special to be the first to enjoy this amenity. John's hospitality is really what made us fall in love with this stay- yes, the home is gorgeous and cozy, the beds are comfy the tv with amazon stick is nice, there's an espresso machine and coffee maker and a full kitchen and beach gear ready for use but the difference in John as a host is what we needed in our vacation- someone who welcomed us warmly, treated us with such kindness and who invited us for a glass of wine and to join in on live flamenco next door at his place (we didn't end up swinging by bc I started feeling back pain, but he even kept checking in with us that we weren't bothered by the sound). He left us the freshest eggs I've ever had in the fridge (courtesy of his neighbor), and when I remarked that there was no cooking oil around and if he had some he had it waiting for us when we got back that day! And when I couldn't figure out how to work the dryer that was on our front porch he came over just to show me how to work the thing. He welcomed us in and would wave at us goodbye when we left each day, and it was a delight to see Paco the dog running around and greeting us at the door. I think this stay was wonderful because John had us feeling truly at home and shared with us the spirit of "aloha." Even when we checked out I wasn't going to bother John because I saw he had company come to his house (which is right next door attached only by the back lanai which has separations for privacy), I was literally about to text him and looked up surprised to see he was waiting to shake our hands and see us off as we left his place on our final day. I am very grateful to have stayed here, my boyfriend and I agreed we really enjoyed John's place, it was the perfect spacious home for us to come to, and actually relax in, on the Big Island. We wholly enjoyed the company and hospitality John gave, and we will DEFINITELY be back again next time around!!! Mahalo plenty, John! You've given us a great experience and an unforgettable 1st year anniversary!

  • We stayed at this rental for one night, and John went above and beyond to make sure we felt welcome and comfortable. This is a great value for a clean and beautiful place. I would definitely stay here again.

  • Great host! Quiet, peaceful and idilic setting yet only 15/20 minutes from Pahoa and/or Hilo. Plan to visit again. John, the host, is like a personal concierge. Simply stated-a great place to stay with an amazing host.

    Ed2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! First of all, Johns place is absolutely spectacular. It was beyond our expectations. The house is spacious has everything you need and more- including delicious coffee and a variety of teas. John is also one of the most incredible hosts we’ve had in our entire experience with Airbnb. He went absolutely above and beyond to make sure our stay was fantastic - he even made us breakfast and drew us a map by hand to show us all the local spots he admires. If you stay here prepare to be pampered and enjoy some oranges from the tree just outside the house. Beautiful stay! Thanks john!! Oh. Shoutout to Paco his extremely friendly puppy

This is a beautiful new build with great attention to detail. This includes a private bedroom, bathroom and gourmet kitchen with everything you could possibly need for a perfect vacation. This property is 10 blocks from the ocean on the dead-end side of the street, with very little traffic. The lanai overlooks our 1-acre avocado orchard that has over 60 avocado trees, lychee, papaya, mango, banana, pineapple, mandarin, and lemongrass. You are welcome to all you want as fruit ripens!
There are no added fees or hidden costs!!!! We include everything so that there are no surprises!! However, please note that AirBnB does add a fee to all bookings, over which I have absolutely no control. We have stayed in AirBnBs and wanted this to simply be the best, most thoughtful place you could ever wish for. We have picked only the finest quality mattresses, sheets and pillows for your comfort. There is no need to lug a crib or highchair as we supply both. We also supply 4 boogie boards, 5 sets of high-quality snorkeling gear, a cooler with ice packs, plush beach towels, beach blanket and mat, beach umbrella, an exercise mat for yoga, travel coffee mugs and stainless water bottles for you to borrow. There are several card games, Scrabble, stationary, puzzles, coloring books and reading books for you to enjoy on the quieter days. The kitchen comes fully stocked with oil, salt and pepper, other spices, teas, coffee, turbinado and coconut sugars and cocoa powder...perfect for making smoothies. Cookware and cutlery are high end. We supply cutlery and dishes for babies and toddlers as well. You have the choice of drip, French press or coffee maker for you coffee enjoyment. There is a toaster, blender, food processor and coffee grinder for all of the gourmet meals you might whip up. As of 1/28/2020, we now have high-speed internet- enough to stream movies use your phone easily, and browse the internet!!
This is a very quiet neighborhood on the dead-end side of the street. If you are from the city, this area will feel rural to you. Lots are 1 acre and not all are built on. There are no street lights so it can be quite dark at night. You will rarely hear cars, only coqui frogs and birds. There are amenities such as sit-down restaurants, grocery store, post office, gas station, McDonald's, Subway, hardware store, laudromat, fruit stand and coffee house in nearby Keaau. There are also amenities in nearby Pahoa. If you are here on Sunday, the Maku’u Market is a must-see/must-experience!!! Drive on 130 towards Pahoa and it’s on the left (it’s quite close to Avocado Acre). You pay a couple of bucks to get in, but it’s so worth it- plenty of different vendors and lunch choices. Lots of locals hang out with their families all day. This is an island experience not to be missed!! Make sure you take cash to get in and buy...some vendors don’t take credit cards.
  • The place was the perfect and in a perfect location and I got a few avocados from the tree ... thank you so much ❤️

  • Welcoming and well thought out comfortable space. Plenty of towels. Beautiful clean property. Kelly is very responsive and a wonderful hostess.

    Peggy2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • We loved everything about Avocado Acre. The house is excellent with many thoughtful touches. The grounds were beautiful and offered us peace and quiet, as well as AVOCADOS! This was a perfect place to land on the Hilo side of the island. We loved being off the beaten path a little bit.

    Shauna2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying at Kelly’s place. We loved how comfy and unique the space was, and how detailed the space was created and furnished. We had three adults and all slept wonderfully in each bed. We enjoyed the sound of nature at night. We enjoyed the picturesque views and home.

    Cara2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • This is the most well planned, clean, beautiful, private, quiet Airbnb I’ve ever stayed at! Every details was thought of... do you prefer drip coffee, French press, or pour over? All options are available for you! & the grinder!! 🥳 The kitchen is soooo well equipped & clean, we could prepare any meal effortlessly! Awesome blender by the way! The indoor space although small is well planned too & feels spacious. & the lanai & grounds are so inviting! To my surprise, the wild pigs & piglets were so peaceful & fun to watch, we looked forward to seeing them every night. I was also amazed that we had no issues with bugs of any kind. The containers for wet waste, trash, & recycling are simply brilliant ~ made it easy for us to do the right thing with our trash. Also we so appreciated the help & loved our time with Walter & Timaima ~ they are truly special people. Next time we will plan our trip further ahead so we can stay longer at Avocado Acres! Thank you all so much!!! ❤️

    Jessica2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Our family really enjoyed Avacado Acres. Everything seems really new and Kelly has thought to stock almost anything one could need. Some of the nice extras we haven't had elsewhere include plenty of beach towels, cold water in the fridge, and ice packs for packing a cooler. A few of things that we found that delighted us were for the kids; a step stool to reach the bathroom sink, a first-aid kit for scrapes, and some sand toys to take to the beach. Walter and Tamima were super friendly and accessible for anything we needed.

    Nicholas2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • We chose Avacado Acre because we wanted to experience Hawaii as authentically as possible. From the first night it was nothing short of magical. We easily found our way by the light of the moon and stars, feel asleep to the song of the coqui frogs, and awoke to the most magical setting. The location was perfect for adventures to the nearby waterfalls, Farmer's Market, volcanoes, beaches and goat farms. We loved starting each morning watching the beautiful birds as we sipped coffee on the lanai. Wandering through the fruit trees looking for ripe treasures was wonderful and watching the rain fall and experiencing a tropical rain storm was a highlight for our family! Walter was a delight and we loved chatting with him and are so grateful for the tip on where to watch the sunrise. Thank you Kelly and family. Our stay at Avacado Acre will not soon be forgotten.

    Christina2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Kelly’s place was beautiful and she was very responsive. We had a slight issue on the first night and she fixed it quickly and with no problem. We enjoyed our stay very much and would recommend it to anyone! Thank you Kelly and family!

We are hosting a Quiet Hawaiian Oasis, less then 15 min from Hilo, Hilo airport and 15 min from the earthy hippie town of Pahoa. Our Ohana is easy access to main road but far enough away to be in complete silence and zero light pollution. The studio is separate from main house with a kitchenette, full bathroom with tub and central air conditioning. If your looking for great beaches, waterfalls, and hikes through the rainforest and botanical gardens, look no further.
Very comfortable brand new home and Ohana in Keaau. Master gardener improving the landscape every week, and a licensed massage therapist with 21 years experience on premesis. Things to do in the area, Uncle Robert's Wednesday night festival with music dancing food and vendors selling unique Hawaiian gifts. Close to natural food stores in Keaau, Pahoa and Hilo if you are looking for vegan options.
  • Very peaceful, quiet, out of the way oasis with nice garden in a comfortable little unit. Hosts are very friendly and happy to help. 10 min drive and you have all the shops you need.

  • Our stay was great and this place is as advertised! Nice and clean, quiet and well kept! Had a brief chance to meet and chat with Alex and he was very nice and warm ;). Would stay again.

  • If you want a hotel style place that’s close to the attractions of Hilo while still being peaceful and quiet? This is the place for you! We loved our stay at Mark’s and Alex’s. The loft was clean, had a small fridge which came in very handy and a coffee machine. It was amazing to be able to drink our morning coffee outside in the yard. If you like the sound of nature, I suggest you sleep with the windows open. The calming sounds of bugs, birds and rain is perfect after a day of exploring Hawaii. Communication with our hosts was amazing. They answered quickly and clearly. If we come back to the Big Island, we will definitely stay here again!

    Clémence2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • I loved my stay at Alex and Mark's oasis. I came to visit friends who lived about 10 minutes away. The studio is very nice and had everything I needed. The gazebo outside the room gave me so much pleasure to sit in and listen to all of the amazing bird and frog sounds there. The landscape of the property is being developed and is beautiful and interesting with many varieties of plants and trees. I would love to visit again!

    Cheryl2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment was perfect as describe, the checkin was easy and the room was clean and newly renovated. Not too far from Hilo.

    Kevin2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • This lovely ohana was clean and tastefully decorated and had a lot of privacy. The motion sensing light at the door made getting in so much easier than many places. Mark and Alex were responsive and delightful to work with. It is just as depicted or better!

    Charlotte2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • We only stayed at Mark and Alex’s Place for two nights, everything was much better than I expected. The place itself was very cozy, nicely decorated and very clean. The hosts were very thoughtful - power adapters, water, coffee were provided.

    Meda2020-01-24T00:00:00Z

  • A really great place to stay!

    Lark2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Sam's place was great. It was in a great location to get to the black sands beach and the Volcanoes National Park. The suite is attached to the main house so there is a small amount of noise that you can hear, but it did not keep us up at night or really affect our stay.

    Brandon2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Sam's place was better than expected. It feels like you have your own small apartment. Theres plenty of space and it's very comfortable. The bed is extremely comfortable and the shower is amazing. There are so many cute touches Sam adds in and tons of supplies that you can use such as big spray, sunscreen, DVDs, etc. And it's in a great spot close to Pahoe! Highly recommend!

Our house is located on the corner of a quite dead-end street. The house is on a 1-acre lot with empty lots all around providing good privacy. The ocean cliffs are a few blocks down the road, and access to the secluded Shipman Beach trailhead is 1-2 minutes (three streets down) by car. There are very few street lights on the island, and often no street lights at all in some of the outer subdivisions. Please know it will be very dark in the evening. If you arrive late, or are out late, please be sure to some light (phone, car lights, or pocket flashlight) to be able to see the lock on the front entry gate.
  • Host is very good, house is so comfortable and have all facilities that you want. We like the kitchen because we can cook every day it makes us save cost for trips. We give this house 5 stars

  • We had a great time at Chris And Tyson's place. It is a quiet neighborhood, and also convenient to get everything you need. Recommend it for people who want to spend some days at the Hilo side of the island.

  • We enjoyed our stay in this clean, comfortable little house. The description is accurate and the house is a good value. For us the location worked very well since most of our planned activities were south of Hilo. Close proximity to the ocean was very nice. Don't forget (like we did) you need to take drinking water with you.

500 sq ft - 1BR/1Bath, kitchenette, 2 single beds that push together for 1 king. 1 acre yard w/ Hawaii fruits and flowers. Deck/dining room, some snorkel/swimming/sports gear, central location to all East Hawaii sights. Cable TV, high speed internet. It is rural so kokie frogs, rooster and dog barks are a factor.
Great yard, central location and bus route 1/2 mile away. clean, like new. Improvised kitchen sink, all else is fully set up. I do an odd thing in that I do have older carpets, pads, plastic around the 1 acre yard as weed control.
Quiet, peaceful. 1/2 mile of well maintained grave road from studio to the pavement. Country living. Small ohia forest, and fully landscaped acre yard.
  • John is the sweetest and so caring. We love him as our host. He is like a dad figure. He offered us a little breakfast when he didn’t have to and recommended us places to visit when we arrived.

    Sarita2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • John’s place was a great spot to stay, in a good location not a far drive from Hilo, at a great price. Communication was very easy because he is usually home and we would see him a few times a day. He got us anything we asked for, gave great advice about local spots, and was thoughtful to bring us fresh fruits to try from his gardens. I would definitely stay here again, and I would recommend Johns place to anyone traveling to Hawaii. Thank you for the great experience John!

    Joseph2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • As a teacher I give John an A+. John went out of his way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. His place was clean and stocked with food and water (at no extra charge). When we had trouble with our rental car, John went above and beyond the call of duty, giving us a ride into Hilo to pick up our rental car on monday morning. We cannot say enough, or recommend John enough to other travelers. If we ever visit the Big Island of Hawaii again, we will most certainly stay at John's place. John is most certainly a "Super Host."

    Daniel2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • John was an A-MAZING host!! He was so responsive since the moment I booked the Airbnb. He shared so many places to visit and eat at and he would check up on us every once in a while to make sure we were okay & doing well! If you’re looking for a host that cares about you, wants to make sure you have a great experience, stay with John! He is a ray of sunshine.

  • The accommodation was perfect for our requirements. The kitchen is sufficient for simple dishes (1 hotplate). John is very friendly, obliging and uncomplicated.

    Timo2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • John’s place was exactly as advertised. It was clean and had all the amenities we required. John was very responsive throughout our communication via the Airbnb messaging app and helpful during the check-in process. The Airbnb was a great value considering the high cost of lodging on the Big Island. I enjoyed my time at John’s Airbnb and would recommend it.

    Myles2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Expect a generous and humble host! John is very responsive to your requests and super friendly! He gave us what we needed and also gave us a tour in his yard!

  • This is a great place to stay if you are looking for a non touristy get away. This place is located in the jungle surrounded by trees and plenty of beautiful natural. We stayed at the turtle house for 4 nights and the value is beyond our expectation. We enjoyed the one bedroom apartment a lot. There are plenty local guidebooks that you can go through to find things to do. The house was clean and comfortable. The bed is big and soft. We didn’t get the chance to meet the hosts since they were traveling as well but we did meet the housekeeper lady who is nice enough to let us stay for extra hour to wait for our flight to Honolulu. There are two cute playful and extremely playful cats owned by the hosts. They are so mellow and friendly. I enjoyed playing with them and feed them everyday(We were not requested to feed the cats, the housekeeper is feeding them for the hosts. We just enjoyed treat them since we have 5 at home). I enjoyed the cats so much that I am already missing them on my way to Honolulu now! Definitely a great place to stay if you are looking for a private getaway. We will come back if we can in the future!

  • My husband and I traveled to the Big Island for our 10 year Anniversary and enjoyed our time at the tropical Turtle house. It really did feel like were in the rain forest. The sounds of the tree frogs and the geckos were like the songs of nature lulling you to sleep at night. We did close our windows a few nights that we wished to sleep in and that did help but most of the time we enjoyed hearing it. The space itself was great. Lots of room, kings size bed was great. Overall the house was pretty clean. Lots of cookware and dishes. Laundry facilities were convenient as well. We enjoyed going to the nearby "Turtle beach". We went their four or five times in the 11 days that we were there. Spotted turtles bobbing in the water every time. There was also plenty of snorkeling gear available to use anytime and we took great advantage of that. The snorkeling on the island is amazing! We would definitely recommend staying at the Turtle house if looking for a place to stay on the East coast.

    Nicole2019-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent place for those who loves tropical forest with all its wild noices, wortmth and humidity. You will be cleaned with all these waters as a newborn. The host is invisible but ever present. A big plus as well.

    Igor2019-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Affordable place on the East side of the Big Island. Full kitchen and large space. I would stay there again.

  • My wife and I stayed eight wonderful nights at Turtle's house. We travel from Elizabeth's house to everywhere (Kona, Pahoa, black sands, Montan view). Distances are quite acceptable using a car. The apartment has everything you need for a nice and comfortable stay. I am going to miss the sounds of the nature at nigths which made it very romantics. Elizabeth and Steve are nice guests. Even Elizabeth gave us some eggs and fruits to have a breakfast. Turtle's house is highly recommended place to stay in Hilo, Big Island.

Located on a quiet peninsula just outside of Hilo, the Whale House is a stand-alone residence for one guest, family or group. You may rent a single bedroom or all four, but either way, the house is never shared with strangers.
The Whale House has a huge wraparound lanai providing stunning ocean and garden views. This 1820 square foot house includes a full size kitchen with a dishwasher, two identical master suites on the second floor, each with king beds and private bathrooms, plus two additional bedrooms on the ground floor (one with a king bed and a pull-out sofa couch with a queen bed, the other with a king bed). The Whale House also has a hot outdoor bamboo enclosed shower. We have fruiting coconut palms, papayas, bananas and pineapples on the lush half acre property. For your enjoyment, bicycles, large gas BBQ, coolers, boogie boards, snorkel gears, a hammock, binoculars are provided free of charge for you to enjoy the trails, and all that the big island has to offer. the wrap around Lanai offers magnificent ocean views and trade wind breezes or for whale watching when it is their migrating season. The Whale House is located in Kaloli Point where it is said it has the best weather on the Hilo side... some say better than Kona. One bedroom is $150/night. Each additional guest over 2 persons is an additional $20/night. However, if you are a party of 2 and want two separate rooms, it is going to be an additional $20/night. But, no matter what, only one guest or guest group stays at the house. It is not shared with strangers. There is air conditioning located in the living room and dining room of the house. We (the owners) in rare instances and with prior notice, reserve the rights to occupy the empty lower floor bedrooms for upkeep or emergency maintenance purposes.
Walk along the dramatic shoreline just outside your front door, or explore one of the many trails on bike or on foot. Trailheads begin one minute from across the Whale House and reveal tide pools, arches, turtles, whales, and deep cool jungles. All major restaurants, shopping centers and activities are within 20 minutes in either direction.
  • The house is just what it says! Beautiful home with everything and anything you need, from scuba gear to spices for cooking!! Nice welcoming gifts and list of things to do. The yard is amazing filled with lava and fruit trees and your own hammock, will definitely recommend!!

  • Our group loved the whale house! Beautiful view, yard, and space! Would definitely stay here again and recommend to anyone visiting the Big Island!

  • This home is spectacular!! Beautiful views, beautiful surroundings, comfy rooms🛌, 2 TVs, room downstairs was a great space for our 4 teenage boys! I appreciate the up to date bathrooms 🛀Evenings were spent socializing on the large patio. 🌊🌠 Can get pretty hot and humid during the day inside, but if you're out and about during the day you will be fine. Would definitely stay in this home again! Mahalo 🌺

  • It's a little bit secluded and a drive to just about anywhere but I loved the peace and quiet and the view was spectacular especially in the morning. They supplied all the amenities, kitchen had all we needed to cook, and the snorkeling equipment and beach supplies were a huge benefit for us. Mahalo!

    Diane2019-06-19T00:00:00Z
  • The Whale House is a wonderful getaway for a family or a reunion of friends. We appreciated that the kitchen was well-stocked with everything we needed, and the patio/BBQ was a wonderful combo for al fresco dining.

    Sheening2019-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • A nice house with a great view! The whale house is located directly at the water and offers very good comfort. We spent four nights here and enjoyed the peace and the unique view. The equipment exceeded our expectations and we felt very comfortable. The house was also very clean and therefore ideal for us to explore the east coast of Big Island. We liked the Whale House very much and we would book it again at any time.

  • Amazing location and amenities. Great to be able to have breakfast on the verandah while looking out at the ocean and hearing the waves crash against the rocks. All snorkelling gear, bikes and basic food items were provided.

Light and bright ground floor studio apartment in a duplex. Master bathroom ensuite, with kitchenette and BBQ, hear the ocean waves and watch the stars. Outdoor shower and tiled solar soak tub. Semi rural so car required.
A large ground floor studio apartment, newly renovated, with ensuite showeroom, queen sized bed, dining area, living area and kitchenette. Outside you have shared access to a BBQ, gardens, outdoor shower, and solar heated soak tub in the summer months. It's a quiet residential neighbourhood, with great neighbours and a relaxed vibe.
Peaceful, serene. Yet 15 minutes drive to great restaurants in Pahoa and only 25 minutes from Hilo Mall and shopping. Ideally situated for driving to all the islands major attractions. We are in walking/ cycling distance to the ocean, and there is a beautiful rocky bluff and tidal pools to explore. The quiet neighbourhood where we live is friendly and quiet. No street lights so you get to see the stars at night, and listen to the coqui frogs chirp. When the surfs up, you can hear the ocean.
  • Jonathan was an excellent host! When I first saw this Airbnb in Hawaii I couldn’t believe how tranquil and peaceful the area was! So much better then I could of ever imagined. All of the amenities where excellent. I would definitely recommend Jonathan’s Airbnb to family and friends!

Recipient of the Airbnb "SuperHost" award for consistently high guest reviews The Bungalow is situated on a 1 3/4 acre of jungle in rural East Hawaii. We are located between Hilo and Pahoa and close to whale watching, perfect for long walks along the cliffs at Kaloli point and for listening to the Hawaiian birds singing.
The Bungalow has a covered Lanai for enjoying the outdoors and looks out to a Banana grove. There is a small refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker with tea, sugar and coffee for the guests to use. The bedroom is large and the on suite bathroom has a tiled shower with a window where you can view nature while you shower. Every window has a view of the jungle outside and the bedroom has a large closet and a queen bed. You can lie on the bed and look out the French doors onto your private lanai.
The neighborhood is quiet and very green with palms, flowers and no traffic or traffic lights.
  • Great communication and stay, thank you!

    Laura2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay here. It was just far enough out of town that we felt pretty remote. We loved the sound of the frogs at night...didn’t even need a sound machine! The local tips and commutation from Gav were wonderful. We ate at Ning’s, Pele’s and the Tin Shack twice each! It’s about a 15 min drive into Pahoa from the bungalow, which felt shorter each day. The space was spotless and we loved the fresh fruit that was left for us. Only warning is to watch for bees in your shoes if you leave them outside. There were a few bees around the doorway and one was hiding under my sandal strap and got me when I put my sandal on, but my fault for not checking. Luckily I’m not allergic. Overall we really enjoyed our stay!

    Joy2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • I love the setting! Beautiful flowers and trees surrounding a comfy bungalow. The space is simple , clean, and welcoming. The coffee is delicious!

    Alexander2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Gav looked after us for our trip to Keeau; her communication is excellent and you won’t find a better space for your budget! Fresh property fruit was also a huge bonus! Location is perfect midway point between Pahoa and Hilo, very close to tourist stops but also perfect for quiet relaxation. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay even though it was short! Highly recommend staying with Diana and Lando!

    Amanda2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Diana & Lando's place. Quiet and beautiful bungalow. We wished we could stay longer!

  • We loved our stay on the Big Island, and the bungalo worked great for our trip! We were only in the area for 3 days, and the location made it very convenient for our visits to the National Park and other excursions, somewhat midway between Hilo and the park. We found a grocery store and a good Thai place nearby, about 6 mile drive, and it was about 20 minutes to get into Hilo for more places to eat, etc.. The privacy of the bungalo was great, and we loved sitting on the covered porch, enjoying the fresh air, the lush view surrounding the property and the soundscape of all the local creatures. It felt remote while being fairly close to everything we needed, only a short drive away. Car is necessary for getting around, but that is probably the case for the island generally. Food prep is limited for this spot, so good to plan accordingly if cooking is on the agenda.

Lower level Ohana unit in our house, with private entrance, full bath with bathtub, outdoor patio. Spacious one acre property surrounded by greenery with fruit trees, garden and three friendly dogs.
On the Big Island, ideally located midway between Hilo and Pahoa. 2 1/2 miles from the ocean (lava meets ocean, not sandy beach). Fall asleep to the coqui frogs, awaken to birdsong (and to a few nearby roosters). Multiple fruit trees on the property- help yourself to whatever is ripe!
We are in a sparsely populated quiet residential neighborhood, on a dead-end gravel road so no traffic.
  • Julie’s place was pretty central for jaunts to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Hilo, and Isaac Hale Beach Park. Her studio was very clean and had everything we needed for a pleasant few days: beach towels, board games for rainy days, big tv, reliable wi-fi, and a well stocked kitchenette. She had a nice friendly dog too!

    Lisa2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Modern, clean, and cozy - this place was exactly what we wanted after a long day of exploring.

    Steven2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! Julie’s place was a perfecting landing pad for my yoga training. Everything I needed to feel rested and refreshed, comfy bed, organic coffee, well appointed bath. Quiet, safe and clean- Mahalo for the fantastic hospitality 🌈🤙😊

  • Perfect place to stay in Hilo while experiencing the east side of Big Island! Checking in and out was easy, the apartment had everything we needed and we truly enjoyed the company of Mufasa. Thank you for hosting us, Julie!

    Katrine2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Julies place was very clean, pretty and everything was easy to go to via google maps. Mafasa is a sweet dog and an amazing greater.

    Samantha2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Julie’s place was amazing. Julie was very helpful with providing information on things to do locally. She offered us ripe tangerines and Hawaiian hot peppers that she grew herself. Her dogs are super cute and friendly too. Would definitely recommend staying here 😊

    Stephanie2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Was a great place out in the suburbs of Hilo. Enjoyed the stars at night and the amazing room, with the sounds of nature. Great place to stay!

    Jacob2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • This location is about 20 mins from town. It’s a great location to see the Volcanoes National Park. If you’re moving around the Big Island this place is great for two day’s and then continue on to stay in Kona and Waimea. Julie has everything you will need from microwave, kettle, bug spray, organic and natural soaps, washer and dryer and so much more.

This beautiful and spacious 2 story 3 bedroom house set in a very safe neighborhood is set on a hill with a wonderful view of Keaau's lush land and the ocean view! This house has plenty of spots to gaze at the view including a large patio and large family room with a 65" TV, and an eating area inside. The style is light bright and upscale, the high ceilings are finished natural wood and there is an archway that adds to the house's unique beautiful feel.

  • Daryl’s space is in a great location for exploring Hilo or heading down to Pahoa and Poihiki. Daryl was very communicative and had some great local tips as well!

    Pat2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice stay and very welcoming familly. We had everything we needed. Juste a 20min drive from hilo. There was a lot of restaurant and shop neer by. I recommand :)

    Gabrielle2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Good price quality ratio comparing with the prices in the island. Good location to visit National Volcano Parks and waterfalls. Daryl gave us good tips and he was always open to answer our doubts. Room was equipped with cutlery, oven, microwave and Netflix, HBO... So after long journeys hiking it was nice to have a complete room.

    Ignacio2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Nice room in family home.

    Roger2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice stay at Daryl's! Even though it is a room in their house, we had our privacy. We felt very comfortable. It was my boyfriend who communicated more with Daryl since he knows English better than I do. Daryl saved us on the entry price of the volcano park which we appreciated. :) A very smiling man and his wife also advised us a few places. In short, we certainly recommend this place which is perfectly located for visiting the east coast of the island. Thank you very much !!
