1 bed self contained cottage set in rural mid Wales. Large hot tub available to use at an additional cost of £20 per day for your own use..... please let us know prior to arrival if you would like the tub, as we have to balance chemicals and get it up to temperature ready for you. Full kitchen with everything you could possibly need... pots, pans, steamer, slow cooker etc,sky TV, log burner and central heating. We have beautiful views, some lovely walks and a haven of wildlife on our doorstep.
Hot tub can be booked for your sole use (£20 per night).... payable on arrival please. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate guests in the hot tub that have any kind of fake tan applied, it turns the water orange!!!!! Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause but we need to keep our facilities clean for other guests. Please be aware that we are in a valley and internet can be hit and miss, if you are looking to be on line for a lot of the time.... this may not the place for you. Mobile signal is really a no go, we are happy for you to use our land line to make any calls. As we are in the country, as hard as we try, you may spot the odd cobweb in the beams and a little dust.... all part of the character and country experience:-)
Very quiet area. No bus service. Lovely views.
  • Had a lovely few days here for my partners birthday. We were given plenty of information before hand regarding directions and then greeted by the host on arrival who was very welcoming and friendly. Thankyou, we loved our stay

  • Stayed at this beautiful lodge for a weekend to celebrate my partners birthday. Absolutely perfect if wanting to take a step back from day to day life and enjoy a countryside break. The hosts were so helpful from the get go and happy to answer any questions. We were greeted on arrival and Hadyn brought the humour, had us laughing and feeling right at ease from the start. Showed us around and reassured us that we could approach them at any point during our stay. The lodge was warm and they had a candle lit when we arrived so it instantly just felt so cosy. The hot tub was just as described and had been pre heated for when we got there. Everything you need is provided so we didn’t find ourselves worrying at any point. Huge thank you to Jude and Hadyn, would highly recommend!x

  • What a beautiful little escape from the real world! Cosy, quaint and well equipped for a cosy weekend in or the perfect base to see some of the beautiful Snowdonia National Park and other surrounding areas. Couldn't recommend the Waggon and Horses in Newtown enough for a delicious dinner and had the most relaxing evening in the hot tub with a bottle of wine and to completely detach from emails/work/etc. Thank you Jude and Hadyn xx

  • Jude's cottage is lovely, homely, clean and has all the amenities you could need. Parking is great. The host offers a warm welcome and was always easy to contact before the visit. Perfect retreat for couples.

Be under no illusion this is like camping under a wooden roof! Not glamping or an hotel. Boatel guests share the boat roofed shed with other guests and residents and no one has exclusivity on this structure. The boat is old and dusty with the occasional spider, an unusual and quirky experience!! The views are stunning. Sorry no dogs but there are two friendly dogs that live here. And cats and ex caged chickens.
Set in an acre of wild flowers and up a mountain in the beautiful Dyfi Valley Biosphere the Boatel is literally a bed in a boat! Not to mention a beautiful open plan cooking and living space – all in a shed AKA the Boat Roofed Shed. Recognised for its amazing and unique qualities, it even won the infamous Cuprinol’s Shed of the Year in 2013. It’s our absolute pride and joy and we love sharing it with our guests! We’ve hosted comedy festivals, exclusive concerts and curious tourists in our little mountain hideaway and Alex (aka DJ Badly) uses it to prepare his sets for festivals such as Glastonbury. We built the shed in 2012 using recycled materials and it was our first major project. Alex is normally a rubbish DIY person, so designing and building the whole thing ourselves was a great achievement and we couldn’t have been happier to win both the ‘Shed of the Year’ Unique Category and the Overall category in 2013. From the shed you can see across Cader Idris (part of the Cambrian Mountains of Snowdonia). It’s so beautiful even in the maddest of weathers, you can close the door, light the candles, pop some kindling in the wood burner and be snug and warm in moments. Our guests all love staying in the Boatel - they love the peace, the location, the structure, the ambience, and the curios (Alex is a big collector and has been on Antiques Roadshow with his Poole Pottery collection!). As well as the relentless throwing of Frisbees for the dogs! We supply all bedding but do not supply towels or breakfast.
We live in the dyfi valley biosphere and we are very committed environmentalists. There are a lot of fantastic Visitor attractions in the area, particularly the Centre of Alternative Technology, Talyllyn Railways and of course Cader Idris – which is part of the Cambrian Mountains of Snowdonia which can be seen from the boat roofed shed!
  • Our second time visiting the Boatel was as lovely as ever, despite the cold and windy weather we were always warm and comfortable. Alex is always easy to get in contract with and happy to help with anything. The space is decorate with all kinds of exciting trinkets and kept warm with the fire and a fantastic sound system. I would always come back here and recommend to anyone.

  • Well where do I start. Just returned from a wonderful night spent in the boatel and im missing it already! From start to finish it could not have been better and totally exceeded our expectations. The location is quite literally breathtaking the drive up the montain towards the boat was something very special. We were greeted by 2 of the friendliest dogs I've ever met the lovely Florence and rex and Alex himself who showed us around his incredible space and joined us for a glass of red and a chat in the shed before leaving us to settle in. Truly top bloke and a pleasure to have met! The amenities are fantastic and much beyond what we expected. My partner was able to cook a full curry using the gas stove in the shed and everything we needed was provided plenty of pots pans utensils etc. I was slightly concerned we were going to be cold but the shed is so toasty with the log burner lit which Alex got started for us an arrival. We had a fantastic night drinking far to much wine, eating cheese and loved being able to plug our phones into the sound system in the shed. Listening to Simon and garfunkle by candlelight late into the night in these surroundings was really quite something and retiring to the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in topped the evening off. Alex has an electric heater and even provides a hot water bottle in the boat so we were very warm indeed. Waking up to the views in the morning when we opened the boat doors was outstanding. We enjoyed a full English with the chickens before we left! And Alex showed us around the land and let us know some exciting things he has in store before waving us off on our journey home 🙂 A trip that we will never forget and we can't wait to come back. Alex, thankyou from both of us for letting us share your incredible space and it was truly a pleasure to meet you! Until we meet again!

  • A little sanctuary away from the normality of life, but its much more than that, there is so much to see and learn from nature, and we must all learn to immerse ourselves in it more often. Anne's place is special and more over, there are few people who can really say they will leave this earth having made it more beautiful than when they arrived, but here it is being done, hope to return one day and see how all those wonderful trees have grown :o)

  • For those that enjoy nature and appreciate the small things. Annie is a lovely host. I cannot thank her enough her hospitality . The yurts are in a magical place. The views of the rolling hills are breathtaking.

  • Lovely yurt, beautiful setting, great host. We stayed 2 nights, got through 3 bags of logs (which you can buy from Annie at £5 a bag) on the very delightful burner. The surrounding area is beautiful and tranquil, great for visiting the forests, hills and coast that the land has to offer. Shower was lovely and warm. It was a delight.

  • Beautiful traditional yurt. Really thoughtful touches such as slippers. We were warm and cosy despite it being January. Being in such beautiful landscape and off grid was really rejuvenating. Annie was a great, friendly host and took the time to greet us and show us around. We just wished we could have stayed longer.

    Sam&Rich2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • Our second visit to Annie’s yurt, was a lovely Relaxing way to spend New year. The yurt is warm, cosy and tranquil. Had a great trip to Aberdovey on the Saturday - can definitely recommend. If you want to get away from the stresses of everyday life then Annie’s yurts are a perfect retreat.

  • Annie's Land is a wonderful place to stay to get away from it all. The scenery is breathtaking and there's lots to explore from the area. The yurt had everything we needed and was so cosy. We could have stayed a lot longer, two nights didn't feel like enough! The dogs loved it too. We'll definitely be returning. Thank you.

  • Annie’s yurt is absolutely wonderful. Set in gorgeous countryside, you really can enjoy the simple pleasures in life whilst you’re here. Annie really has thought of everything and is a really welcoming host. Thank you so much for an unforgettable weekend! We will be back! Laurence and Flo xx

If you want to see what we've been up to lately, get to know us a bit more, see some more photos and stay in touch then search for fronlwydfarmholidaycottage on f’book Please note, During the winter period from new year to mid-March we operate a 3 day minimum stay policy, for the rest of the year it is four nights if staying over a weekend and three nights during the week. In school holidays bookings run for a week, Saturday to Saturday
There are plenty of walks straight from your door to explore the surrounding countryside. Walk for miles not seeing a soul and just listen to the sound of birdsong and Buzzards and Red Kites circling above. Take an expedition off to find the stone circles on the hill side above or just take off for the day to explore the surrounding area. Fronlwyd is right in the middle of a beautiful unspoilt valley that is a tributary to the river Dyfi, a world famous salmon river and internationally renowned 'biosphere' for flauna and flora. there is hill walking from our door, at the head of the valley is the sources of the rivers Severn and Wye with their respective long distance footpaths beginning here. A ten minute drive away is the Hafren forest which has miles of walking and cycle tracks through it and there is sailing fifteen minutes away at Llyn Cllewedog. Depending on how adventurous you want to get you go pony trekking on the beach at Borth, Canadian canoe down the Dyfi river, kayaking at the Welsh national kayaking centre near Llangollen and of course Snowdownia is on our doorstep - my favourite mountain to walk is cader idris which is the highest peak in Southern Snowdonia but is just as spectacular as Snowdon with the added benefit being without the crowds - it's about half an hour from Fronlwyd. The area is famous for mountain biking and Machnylleth, 20 minutes away, has four downhill trails that will challenge any rider. The nationally renowned Coed-y-brenin trails are around 35 minutes away also. The Redbull hardline is also 15 minutes away. A little further afield is go-ape and also the longest zip wire in Europe, which is something like a mile long! Several guests have been on this and said that it was a great experience. Also rave reviews continue for the underground caves 'Bounce Below'. If this is all a bit too 'extreme' there is stacks to other things to do that is more in keeping with the tourist scene, castles a plenty, narrow gauge railways, art galleries etc There is plenty of space for bikes at Fronlwyd with a garage to lock them up in and pressure washer available. There is so much to do around here!
  • Perfect! We came for my mum’s 60th with 4 young children and couples in their 20s, 30s and 60s. It was perfect for all of us! It’s not often you can find somewhere that is perfect for everyone, there was plenty of space for the kids to play and plenty of space for adults to relax. Loved every second of it thank you x

  • Great accommodation. In an ideal location to get out on a few day trips and the little touches like the pizza oven and cinema barn really help to add something different to this place. We had a great time with a large family and would highly recommend to anyone else

  • Vicky and Adam provided an excellent venue for a family birthday week end. Kids and dogs made welcome too. Just the right level of support with facilities, such as hot tub and Pizza oven. Barn cinema also a great success, especially with youngsters.

  • Superb accommodation. Loved the space for our family gathering. The men enjoyed cooking the pizzas in the outside pizza oven. Great place to spend time with the family.

  • Lovely spacious place for a family or friends get together. Christmas decorations were a nice touch and well done.

    Dan2019-12-09T00:00:00Z
  • A group of us come away every year to celebrate Christmas early and have a nice relax before the real festivities begin. The cottage was perfect for us size wise and having normally stayed coastally in Anglesey, it was a nice change to have some different scenery. The cottage was easy to find with the postcode that Adam gave us and got us straight to the door. We had great weather whilst we we there. A few bright but cold days and on our fake ‘Christmas day’ we woke up to snow falling which was a real treat. We loved seeing Holly dog who came for regular visits and strokes. The kitchen was perfect for our sized group. Enough room to make individual meals and to muck in and make the big Christmas dinner. We made the most of the hot tub (in -1 temps) and the pizza oven (in the rain). We especially loved the dining room which leant itself so well to our crafting we did whilst there and our Christmas dinner. The table looked beautiful decked out with all the Christmas stuff. All in all, we had a great time and felt pretty sad driving home and back to reality on Monday morning in the rain. We would definitely consider this location again for the same kind of trip. It’s perfect for a winter break but you can clearly see how amazing it would be in the summer too. Thanks Adam :)

  • A delightful place to stay. Calm and restful. Our hosts were thoughtful and have made a wonderful shepherds hut with fabulous eco credentials.

  • Absolutely amazing!! What an amazing few days! The host was fantastic! There are so many things that just made our holiday, and great memories! Past few days have been the warmest I've ever been, which was something we were worried about! The hut is equipped with everything you'll need. Tea, great coffee, every kitchen utensil and pan, and the way the hut is built and designed is incredible, it's like something off the documentary tiny house on Netflix. Makes us consider living small! Amazing views and surroundings. Loved the folder of info. Will return soon!

    Meg2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • This place is truly idyllic. For those that are used to a compost toilet believe me when I say that this one is a nice one! The shower was wonderfully hot. The wood burner inside has a very handy little oven alongside which we made full use of. The field is perfect for dog owners, the bed and bedding was gorgeous and cosy and there is a little welcome folder with tips and walks etc. Loved this place!

    Charlotte Sarah2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • A magical little home more than a hut. Cozy but spacious and made with love. A lot of thought has gone into this space. There is everything you need including a very comfy bed. Beautiful area too. Our dog was in heaven and so were we. We will definitely be recommending this place to others.

  • It was a pleasure to stay at the Eco-Cabin, it allowed me to sleep as a baby, read a lot and gather my thoughts about life. The decoration, furniture and space of the cabin are perfect and really environmentally friendly. Paul and Suzanne were really friendly and gave me some really good local tips. I hope I can visit the area again and hopefully say Hi to your nice family/house! Thank you :)

  • What a wonderful weekend trip for the wife, pup, and myself. The location is absolutely stunning and the place was such an enjoyable retreat to spend a winter weekend. So many walks and places to eat but if you want, you can also cook your own meals. We enjoyed both options but honestly didn't want to leave to go eat. The views were romantic and couldn't be matched at any restaurant! Thanks again for the wonderful weekend stay!

  • Lovely cottages, ideal for any large gathering. The outside space and views were outstanding. 10/10

    Claudia2019-05-19T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures definitely do not do these cottages justice so upon arrival we were plesently surprised. The cottages are beautiful and ideal for a large group - there was 20 of us and we fit into 4 of the cottages perfectly! Daniel was very accommodating and provided us with additional pull out beds as our party grew in size. There is a very relaxed feel, we were able to party but also enjoy the beautiful walked up behind the cottages and the view was enough to get rid of the hangover!! The gardens are beautiful unfortunately there was a storm when we were there, otherwise we would have got the BBQ out. Would be perfect for a large party looking to get away and enjoy each others company but it would also be great for families with children of all ages, the lawn is big enough for ball games and more! The Hall is perfect for group dining, with a large table that we easily got 18 round. If you are planning on cooking I would suggest bringing essential items like oil salt pepper and maybe large pans. I would also recommend bringing additional toilet roll, washing up liquid (although there is a dishwasher in the hall, not one in every cottage). Also bring tea bags coffee and milk. All in all it was an amazing break away and we are looking to book up again! Thanks Daniel!

  • Stayed here as a stag group for 2 nights, the place was great for us as we could have some music on and have a bbq/fire pit etc and be left completely alone and not worry about disturbing the peace as there’s no one to disturb! The grounds are really well kept and it’s a great place to take yourself away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The cottages themselves are great, it’s not 5* but if your after pristine finishes and expensive suites, Wales is probably not for you! If your after a great experience and somewhere different I couldn’t recommend this place enough!

A modern, delightful wooden chalet nestled amongst the trees and land of Darowen. This spacious one bedroom chalet is perfect for exploring the scenic landscape of the Dyfi valley. There are lots of different walks to be tackled, 1 of which is the famous Glyndwr's way. And if you decide to take it easy, just put your feet up and enjoy the stunning views from the comfortable and spacious balcony. The town of Machynlleth is only 7 miles away with lots of places to eat and things to enjoy and see.
Set off a small country side lane, from the balcony you wont see any other property, just beautiful countryside and a mixture of wildlife and livestock.
  • Excellent place to stay & faultless if you want seclusion and escapism :) loved it.

  • Wouldn't recommend any more. Will be hooking again shortly, the area is amazing and the cabin itself is serene. Wow

    Al2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely cabin in the woods. The space was cosy, tidy and we loved how secluded it was. There were lots of local tips for walks, pubs and an extensive collection of travel brochures. The personal touches - welsh cakes and bara brith on arrival! - made it a perfect stay, which could not be dampened by the weather! A beautiful property in an ideal location.

  • I stayed here for a weekend alone, it was easy to find, gorgeous location, I was there too short a time to see a lot as it was heavily raining but I’ll be returning for longer someday. Really sweet touches, modern and cosy space, very clean and lots of extras like tea, coffee etc! Highly recommend!

  • We had a fantastic stay in Caban Pren. The cabin is surrounded by the most amazing views but is still only a 15 minute drive to Machynlleth. Despite being cold outside, the cabin was lovely and warm. We enjoyed walking in the local area and will definitely return.

Please take care on the staircase which is in traditional cottage style and not suitable for people with mobility difficulties or for carrying young children up and down. Children must be supervised when using the staircase.
The space The house sleeps 4 people, 2 in a double bed upstairs and 2 on a double sofa bed. Dining table that seats 4, Free sat TV, DVD Player Downstairs bathroom, WC , Hand basin with Bath and Shower over bath, Kitchen, fully equipped with cooker with hob, microwave, kettle, toaster The staircase is a typical Welsh cottage style and is not suitable for people with mobility difficulties. (Mind your Head!) The house is located on the south side of the Snowdonia National Park and is an end of terrace house which, back in 1826, was a weavers cottage. We have recently extensively refurbished the cottage and this includes a new bathroom. The Snowdonia National Park is 5 miles away. Other attractions are the Centre for Alternative Technology, Nature Reserves, Talyllyn Railway, Devils Bridge and seaside Aberdovey and Borth. There are superb footpaths for walkers and trails for mountain bikers. The house offers clean basic facilities which is how we keep the rental rate low. There is a cleaner who cleans at the start of your stay and at the end. All linen is provided, but do bring extra towels, if you feel you may need them. We provide cotton sheets and a comfortable bed. There is also a double sofa bed so the house accommodates a total of 4 guests The staircase is a typical cottage style and is not suitable for people with mobility difficulties. Children are very welcome at the cottage but please do make them aware that they must walk and not run up and down the staircase as it's an old style cottage staircase. This is a simple Welsh cottage in a beautiful area close to much of the best of Wales. If you are looking for well placed accommodation with lots of traditional features then this is the perfect little cottage for your stay. Light the fire when you arrive and the atmosphere is delightful. The house has a small front garden, a patio at the back and a large side garden. The house is in an ideal area for exploring the Snowdonia National Park. Although there is a cleaner who will thoroughly clean the cottage before and after your stay, please ensure that you leave the cottage clean and vacuumed at the end of your holiday. Also, there may be a store of logs and coal which you are welcome to use, but as I can’t always guarantee that the previous guests have replenished the stock I do suggest that you buy coal, logs, firelighters and kindling from any of the local garages. There are a number of very good restaurants in the area and lots of beautiful picnic spots. I can send you a list of interesting places to visit, fantastic picnic spots and spectacular scenery.
The cottage is close to Machynlleth which is a quaint town with all the amenities. Borth beach and Artists Valley are also near by as is The Centre for Alternative Technology.
  • Just returned from a 2 night break. Perfect location for our needs. Great little cottage.

  • A very clean, comfy and quirky place to stay. Nice and cosy the ideal place to get away from it all and not too far from the beach and other towns. Fully recommend it.

    Sallie2018-04-29T00:00:00Z
  • Loved the little cottage. The stairs are crazy but don't let this put you off. If myself and partner didn't have kids we could of easy live there all year round.

  • Lovely cosy cottage. Great location for exploring the coast as well as snowdonia national park. Easy to find, and despite being on a main road and near the train line, it is still very quiet and relaxing. And no notices around the house anymore as others had moaned about, so that was good to see the host had responded to feedback. Excellent communication from Gilly, and lots of local info and tips! We hope to stay again sometime ...

    Darren2017-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • This is the second time we have stayed at the cottage - we came back because the cottage is super cosy, in the most beautiful location, and has everything you need for a peaceful weekend getaway. Gilly is very quick with communication - booking and staying at the cottage is always a pleasure! We look forward to coming back for the third time soon!

    Lana2017-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is as described, small and with low door ways. However, even though we are both tall, we soon got used to ducking and it really wasn't a problem. We had very intermittent phone signals and of course there wasn't any wifi so we truly had to retreat from our usually busy lives. The shower was a bit temperamental but it was usually good, hot and much more powerful than our shower at home! A joy. The cottage is ideally placed and we visited so many places; Barmouth, Harlech, Aberystwth and completed a number of the walks around Machynlleth using the book in the cottage. We loved our week and cannot wait to return to Deer Cottage!

    Heather2017-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is small, quaint and truly unique. Location is stunning and many features remain memorable. A point to future guests, the nearest supermarket is Co-op in Machynlleth, about 15 minutes away.

Fully insulated and with a log stove, hot shower and wooden sauna the cabin is the perfect bolthole no matter what the weather outside is doing. Everything you need for a secluded escape from the world. Just relax, unwind, sit by the fire, walk in the hills, and be.

So you can leave the cabin and explore the area for miles. Alternatively you can sit on the decking spotting otters and herons while sipping a G & T or relax in the hammock over the river and enjoy the floating sound of the river flowing under you.
  • This is a charming space, which we loved so much the first time, we came back for a repeat visit!

    Lewis2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic weekend at the cabin. The cabin and surrounding environment is very romantic, peaceful and relaxing. The hosts were very welcoming and went out of their way to make our stay as perfect as possible, many thanks. The sauna is a must and make use of the freezing river next to it, highly recommended. Probably the best place we have ever stayed at!

    Christian2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • My partner Conor and I have spent two nights at the beautiful shepherds hut and enjoyed our stay massively. Even though it was fairly stormy at times, we felt cosy in the hut with the fire on. The hut was sparkling clean and the bed is so comfortable, much bigger and deeper as some of the pictures let on. This shepherds hut really is a beautiful work of art and you‘ll find quirky, beautiful aspects all around the property, for example re-purposed cutlery as coat hangers. There has been so much love, thought and effort put into the development and maintenance of this hut, it’s wonderful. We will surely be back!

    Julia2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely couple of nights in Cabanant - even if one was cut short by Storm Dennis' persistent downpours! A great place to stay whatever the weather; obviously sunshine is preferable, but even in grey conditions the cabin comes alive as a great cosy hidey-hole. Highly recommended, and we'll definitely be back in the summer.

    Alex2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect getaway. The hut is built with attention for detail and is set in a magical location. Hearing the sounds of the gentle stream is guaranteed to give you a good night's rest. An absolute recommendation.

  • There was once a little buffalo, and he had everything he ever wanted; the city was his oyster. Yet he was not satisfied. Only when he lost everything, did he realise that less is more. Losing everything was a small price to pay for finding himself. This place may help you along your journey. Wonderful little place within a beautiful location. Highly recommend using the sauna!

    Katie2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had the most perfect stay at Paul and Suzanne's little cabin. Absolutely wonderful location, lovely cosy space with everything we could've wanted. The sauna was amazing as well! Would definitely love to stay again!

    Rosie2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • The accomodation is the perfect escape to the country with a lovely view and a warm, cosy setting with a running stream. It couldn't have been more perfect. The log burner will keep you warm even in the most coldest of temperatures, we had -3 on one day. The bed was really comfortable, couldn't have had a better night sleep. The hosts have gone above and beyond to make this a great vacation and would recommend to anyone considering a quiet getaway.

Newly built and lovingly handcrafted to the highest specification for August 2017, by my husband Andy. Enjoy a wealth of wildlife from your own environmentally friendly luxury off-grid shepherd’s hut, next to a burbling stream. Comfortable and stylish, yet quiet and peaceful. We have another hut too, but both huts are located away from each other, fields apart! We respect that guests come to enjoy the privacy and tranquility of the countryside. We can sleep 4 with the addition of a 2 man tent!
Our hut is completely self-contained, so unlike most huts, you won’t need to venture out into the rain to use the loo at night… everything you need is all under one roof, with a state of the art eco-loo and a hot shower. Environmentally friendly and ‘off grid’ it is powered by solar panels. There is enough energy made to power the lights, and charge your mobile phone and laptop. There is also a cosy wood-burning stove for those chilly nights. There are plenty of activities and attractions to stimulate the adventurous and relax the work-worn. Set amongst acres of farm land and on the Glyndwr’s Way National Trail, ‘Cut Bèch’ is an ideal base for individuals and couples to explore one of the most picturesque parts of Mid-Wales, a haven for walkers, bird-watchers and cyclists. When you return from your adventure, why not sit on the decking outside and enjoy a well-deserved glass of wine, and tea cooked on our new gas BBQ, while watching the little lambs play in the field.
Machynlleth - 5 minute drive away - Charming market town. Train Station and bus service. Shops, pubs, restaurants and an award winning fish and chip shop. The Dyfi Osprey Project, a breeding site for ospreys, and the Centre for Alternative Technology are definitely worth a visit. Aberdyfi is only a 25 minute drive away, where you’ll find a beautiful sandy beach.
  • Had a fantastic stay here, very off grid and relaxing. Lovely log burner, would recommend!

  • My partner and I had a great time here, the location is so peaceful and to wake up to the sound of the bubbling stream was a delight. The shepherds hut itself was decorated lovely and really spacious, but have to say being cut off from the world i.e no t.v or wifi/ phone signal is a real treat. Thank you again for our stay.

  • We loved are stay at the shepherds hut. It was such a gorgeous and stylish hut with all amenities you needed. The hospitality was great, so helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. On hand if we had any questions, but at no point did we feel like we didn’t have our own space. Log burner with a basket of logs thrown in was perfect at this time of year for some cosy nights watching movies by the fire. WIFI and a smart TV for Netflix etc. Town with shops 5 mins drive.

The Dyfi Osprey Project, a breeding site for ospreys, and the Centre for Alternative Technology are definitely worth a visit. Aberdyfi is only a 25 minute drive away, where you’ll find a beautiful sandy beach.
  • If your looking to hide away and enjoy the peace and beauty that the countryside offers all wrapped up in a cosy and very comfy little mini home this is the place we will definitely recommend and revisit sometime, such a beautiful place we didn’t want to go home back to reality

  • I would highly recommend to anyone. This is a truly special and magical place. So much thought has gone into the huts and creating a wonderful experience!!

  • A cosy hut with a warm welcome perfectly located to explore the beautiful Welsh countryside and enjoy some precious down time. Wonderful hosts who have thought of everything to ensure a comfortable stay, always available if needed. This was our second visit and won't be our last! x

    Cara2019-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing time. The hut and that location was wonderful. We had private time and no distractions as there was no internet or phone connectivity.

    Devi2019-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this unique and special location. It’s very peaceful and the long summer evenings were perfect for barbecues on the little terrace. A lovely way to experience the Welsh countryside.

  • Sioned’s hut was outstanding for a hiking weekend near the Mach loop. The hut was clean, and about as close to camping as I am amenable to! We loved seeing all the cows and sheep and our pup absolutely loved the stream! The fire was lovely in the evenings and we had a great time connecting with friends over s’mores and a bonfire!

    Jennifer2019-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect cosy getaway place for 2. The dog loved the stream running alongside, so much so we struggled to get him out of it and the sound of the stream at night whilst sat by the fire pit was amazing. Would 100% recommend to anyone who is looking for a relaxing, rural getaway.

If you want to get away from it all and be surrounded only by birds and nature, Bwthyn Deryn is the definition of tranquillity. It is situated in a stunning location, perfect for exploring the scenic landscape of the Dyfi valley. Near to the majestic mountains of Snowdonia, sandy beaches of Aberdovey and Ynyslas, Dyfi Ospreys, castles and steam trains - there is so much to see and do locally. The market town of Machynlleth with shops, restaurants, cafés and an art gallery is only 7 miles away.
The space Newly decorated modern cottage with all the comfort you need. Spacious accommodation for two people, fully self-contained with a kitchen downstairs meaning the bed/living room space is upstairs with the great views. The kitchen is well–equipped with fridge freezer, dishwasher, microwave, washing machine and oven as well as dining table and chairs. Upstairs, as well as a King-size bed there is a comfortable sofa and rocking chair meaning you can sit back and browse the books, maps of the area and local information as well as watch TV or DVDs should the weather keep you inside. The shower room has a modern shower, toilet and hand basin. There are seating areas outside for you to use to make the most of the spectacular panoramic views. As there is very little phone coverage and no Wifi in the cottage this is the ideal chance to take a break from the modern world.
  • Had a lovely weekend getaway with amazing hosts. The cottage was immaculate with wonderful attention to details. Would recommend to anyone wanting a peaceful retreat!

  • Had a fab few days over New Years. Super peaceful cottage - definitely can't be faulted on location or views. We would love to come back and work our way through more of the dvd's and games!

    Sophie2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing in every way. No WiFi or signal in the cottage was exactly what we needed for a digital detox. Lovely and modern decoration with personal touches throughout. Cleanliness was 100% with a great book created with all local walks and things to do. Bed was extremely comfortable and had all amenities needed for an incredible stay. Isolated enough that you feel relaxed but only 15/20 minutes from a local town should you need anything. The perfect balance. Cannot wait to go back!

    Natalie2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely private facilities, very clean and remote. Great part of the Welsh countryside. A perfect little get away.

  • Alex was so helpful and lovely, unfortunately I couldn’t make it as there were flash floods and traffic made it difficult getting up there from London. Hope to meet you one day alex !

    Rosie2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • The safari caravan was so cosy, the views all around are beautiful and there were lots of lovely little touches, like fresh spring water, a digital radio in the amazing boat shed, and a lovely clean shower with added ferns (although I think nature did that rather than Alex!). We would definitely stay again :)

    Olivia2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed just for 1 night, arrived at 23:00 and left at 07:00. We just used the place to sleep and that was it. The caravan was warm and cosy. It had fresh water and coffee. There was an outdoor toilet and socialising place if you wanted to meet others. I would stay again

  • Had a great stay here at short notice. Quick response from host and we were met upon arrival and given a tour. The animals are all extremely friendly and our stay felt very private. Absolutely amazing views !

  • A very characterful, special place to stay with wonderful views over South Snowdonia. I would absolutely recommend staying here if you can! The boat shed is a wonderful place to chill out, and the bed in the caravan was comfy and warm - we were there at an exciting and busy time for Alex's family and he was always available and friendly :) Quirky spot, great design, beautiful views and quiet location, kind hosts. Places like these don't come along very often!

A beautifully designed cottage nestled into the hillside, with huge windows providing stunning uninterrupted views down to the river and woodlands. The cottage has a large open plan living area that combines a gorgeous handmade kitchen, dining area, and comfortable lounge. Underfloor heated throughout and stylishly decorated, the space is warm, cosy and inviting at all times of the year.
Full of curves and quirky features, the unique design of the cottage includes a lovingly planted living roof of sedum, flowers and herbs that also extends over the timber frame veranda. Huge windows throughout provide a sense of connection to the outdoors, and the large glass sliding doors extend the living area to connect with the outside sheltered veranda. The cottage is situated on our four acre family smallholding, downhill from the family farmhouse. There are also two shepherd's huts on separate parts of the smallholding, as well as our vegetable garden, polytunnel and orchard, with free range chickens and ducks. Each dwelling has its own individual parking area, separate access and private land associated with it.
We are located on the edge of the picturesque rural village of Abercegir, surrounded by trees and hills with fantastic walks on offer directly from the property. And yet Abercegir is less than ten minutes drive from the bustling market town of Machynlleth, with a wide variety of cafés, restaurants, pubs, boutique shops and curios. The local area is a hotspot for mountain and road biking and as keen cyclists ourselves we can give you lots of local tips. The two closest beaches are Aberdyfi and Ynyslas, both around 30mins drive away.

Stretch out in bed and look out for miles across rolling hills with nothing but sheep, trees, and birds. This gypsy vardo bow topped caravan has been built and renovated by the artist owners on an original 1920s frame. It's full of hand-carved and painted details, gold leaf, brocade and brass, with no expense spared.
Staying in this space is like living in a jewel box. This caravan has been built by the artist owners on a large 1920s heavy horse cart (so even if you are 6' 6" you can stand up and stretch out!) with beautiful hand carved and painted details, gold leaf, brocade and shiny brass work. Sit back, light a fire in the wood-burner, cosy up in bed and read a book, drink some wine, play a games or snooze in a super comfy bed and do absolutely nothing! We have also built a wooden canvas topped cabin for the kitchen with stunning views through the trees over the Cambrian mountains. Set at around 200m altitude the space looks over rolling hills and woodland. You can also see the mountain Cader Idris from here. There is separate compost loo set a short distance from the wagon with a stunning view with a shower in its own separate shed. Set on our isolated smallholding looking out over the mountains, you hear no traffic, just birds, wind and the rustling of interesting creative projects. You can take many different walks from here into the surrounding hills or venture further to mountains wild swimming and beaches only 20mins away. Machynlleth an ancient small town is 10 minutes drive for shops, with a market on Wednesday. There are also mountain bike circuits and plenty of wild tracks nearby. Bring all the food you might need as once here you wont want to burst the bubble by having to go shopping!
Take a sauna on the hill, walk, hike, and bike all around the hills. Explore woodland and mountains, with beaches only 20 minutes away. Eat out in nearby Machynlleth and Aberdyfi, where there are pubs, restaurants, and a world-class fish and chip shop. This area is a specified Unesco Biosphere reserve due to its unique combination of natural and cultural qualities.
  • The whole experience was beyond our expectations. The nature is absolutely stunning and the detail that has been put into the caravan and the hangout is amazing. We didn't want to leave the place in the end, we'll definitely be back! Thank you for a peaceful escape away from the city, Jo and George

  • Our second time staying at this magical getaway was just as wonderful as the first. The new addition of the shower adds even more luxury to this unique experience. It is now clear to us after spending two days here during one of the worst storms so far this year that this is the perfect cosy escape no matter the time of year! Once again Jony and Pippa were perfect hosts and we can’t wait to come back again.

    Chris2020-02-17T00:00:00Z

  • Second stay with Annie in Yurt Air, it truly is a magical place like no other the out door shower is amazing, Annie has created a perfect place to switch off from day to day life! We took a lovely walk to the local pub (2miles away) which was very welcoming. We returned for a meditation session delivered by Annie in our Yurt which took us to another level or relaxed state of mind, a weekend of mind and soul cleansing. Make sure you check out Annie's pop up shop for herJams chutneys and creams all made from products grown on Annie's land thank you Annie for sharing your special creation

    Neil2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely weekend in the Air Yurt at Annie’s Land. This is the biggest of three yurts, a small uphill walk from the car park. The site itself is about 2 miles from the pub and 10 miles to the shops in Machynlleth. If you are looking for peace and quiet, this the spot! Unfortunately the recent wet weather had left the yurt quite damp for our arrival, but we soon warmed up with the lovely log burner. The nearby pub serves great pub grub and we had a lovely walk at Aberdyfi beach. Come to Annie’s place for relaxation and beautiful views of mid wales. Annie said you can see the sea on a clear day from the top of the hill behind the yurt, it would make for a great walk. Enjoy your stay, and don’t forget flip flops for the shower and extra torches!

    Jenny2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our weekend in the yurt - a quirky and peaceful spot in a beautiful part of the country. Anne was a great host, lots of great little touches!

    Helen2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • The site was exactly as described, in a lovely location. First time in a yurt, which felt like a cross between a cabin and a tent, taking the best bits from both. Had a lovely stay.

    Scott2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Annie’s beautiful yurt with our 3 young boys. It easily fit the 5 of us and all of our belongings. The log burner kept us cosy and the outdoor shower was a treat. We wouldn’t hesitate to return or recommend!

    Sinead2019-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • Annie’s place is lovely, we found the yurt to be very warm even in November (the wood burning stove got the temperate up to 27 degrees!) and the outdoor shower was great at night time. Annie is very friendly and we had a useful chat about all things OPD.

    Rosa2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Great yurt, plenty of room for bags and wellies and coats etc (we stayed in November so it was pretty wet outside). Shower was lovely my boyfriend said, and fire was amazing and kept us cosy. Also lovely brushed cotton sheets made for a great nights sleep.

A fresh, clean space in a new build close to the historical town of Machynlleth and the mountains of Snowdonia National Park. I have three rooms available, accommodating up to six people at any time. Take a look at my other listings if additional rooms are required.
Here you have the option of a Superking bed or two separate single beds - don't be put off by the "gap" in the mattresses, they both zip up together, and you won't feel the difference. This room has a bath for you to relax in after a long day travelling, along with a smart TV so you can enjoy your favourite box sets whilst you settle in. Continental breakfast is served from 8:00 till 9:30 in the kitchen area, although I can be flexible if you let me know the evening before. I keep the kitchen and living room as my "private spaces", however I do open up the front patio / garden area for you to chill out and enjoy the sun.
Cemmaes Road (or Glantwymyn in welsh) is a quiet village, there is a lovely old pub a short walking distance away, The Dovey Inn, and a tiny little shop next door to the pub for you necessities.

  • This place is an absolute gem! The pictures don't do it justice. The location is stunning and we had such a peaceful few days. The house itself was quirky and clean and had everything we asked for. We will definitely be returning!

    Pip2018-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • The photographs do not this property justice. The house is well equipped for all weathers; log fires for the cold, shelter and summer house for wind and rain, and stunning views from the decking in the sun. We left the car at the pub which serves a lovely dinner and took the dogs straight down to the river for a walk. The area is very quiet being off from the main road and the views are stunning. We didn't have any children, but the house is well equipped for them also with a summer play house, bunk bed, books and games for them to enjoy. The host was quick to respond to questions and was incredibly helpful. It was a short stay but a very pleasant one.

A tranquil space to unwind. Situated a few miles from the southern border of Snowdonia National Park. Self contained apartment with balcony+patio is set in part of our garden & has lovely views of the valley & hills. The area has plenty to offer in the way of walks & cycling, both difficult & easy or explore it’s valleys, lakes, waterfalls, nature reserves and the coast. Some good cafes & restaurants in spectacular settings. We’r so sorry but the apartment is unsuitable for children and pets!!
The apartment is situated above an outbuilding in our garden, which is across the yard from our house, and has it's own private entrance. Below the balcony is a patio area overlooking the garden. It's situated nicely off the beaten track without being too remote, being just a few miles from the main roads. There are hills between us and the main roads so there's no traffic noise, other than the occasional passing car or farm vehicle. We live across the yard from the flat should you need us, but have the greatest respect for your privacy if you don't. There is safe storage for bikes, surf boards and most holiday equipment you might want to bring.
Powys is the least populated, and largest county in Wales. It stretches from Denbighshire in the North, (approx 1hr 30mins away), to Brecon & The Valleys in the South (approx 1hr 30mins & 2 hrs away). The English border is to the East (1hr 30mins away) & the coast at Cardigan Bay is to the West (30-40 mins). We’re quite central to all the places I’ve just mentioned, so it’s perfect for people who want to explore different parts of Wales. We have access to some great walks, including the famous Glyndwrs Way, which is accessed via a track next to our house. There are more gentle walks along the local lanes, including a riverside view walk. There are also spectacular places to visit just a short, scenic, drive away. .... The 'Torrent Walk', (approx 20 min. drive), is a magical, short walk through a small valley of waterfalls, mossy, fern covered trees & boulders, in spring it's covered in bluebells. The 'Precipice walk', has spectacular views of the Mawddach valley and is only a short drive from the 'Torrent walk'. Cadair Idris Mountain, Wales 2nd highest, is 20 mins away, (Snowdon is in the North of the National Park but as previous guests have mentioned, it's an enjoyable scenic journey to get there). Lake Vyrnwy is a very scenic location & great for walking, cycling, boating & eating - there are a couple of lovely little cafes tucked away there or the Vyrnwy Hotel has a choice of 2 Restaurants, with views overlooking the lake, & they are open to the public. Ynys hir RSPB nature reserve (as seen on BBC's spring watch etc.) is approx. 20 mins drive away, as is the Osprey project, and 15 mins further is the nature reserve at Ynyslas, with beautiful large, clean, sparsely populated, sandy beach and sand dunes, from there you can see Aberdyfi across the estuary, with a backdrop view of the mountains. (We recently saw kite surfers having fun there). A mile from Ynyslas is Borth, where you can enjoy a bevvy at the pub on the beach watching the sunset. Further up the coast from there is Barmouth and down the coast is the University town of Aberystwyth. There are also plenty of little known gems closer to home. Whether you're wanting to explore your way around Wales, walk, cycle or just simply chill out and enjoy being surrounded by nature, this is probably the place for you!

Ty Capel Studio is a delightful, open plan holiday apartment occupying the first floor of what was originally the caretakers cottage for the adjoining chapel. It now provides our guests with all they need for a relaxing holiday, with its own private entrance, it features a double bed, separate shower and wash rooms, and a small kitchenette. The south facing garden overlooks the northern hills of the Pumlumon Massif in the Cambrian Mountains. More info at tycapel.wales
In the heart of the UNESCO Dyfi Biosphere, on the doorstep of southern Snowdonia, it's perfectly placed for walkers, cyclists, birdwatchers, and anyone else who loves the great outdoors. More info at tycapel.wales
Darowen is a tiny village of some 20 homes and outlying farms, sitting on a short ridge between two hills. It is within a UNESCO recognised area called the Dyfi Biosphere. All roads leading to the village are up hill! The local community is chiefly made up of local farming families, and English incomers like us who love the gorgeous views. Everyone is friendly, with several homes welcoming holiday guests. While we don't have a pub or shop here anymore, we do like to meet up in each others homes for a good natter!
  • Despite giving them less than 24-hours' notice before my arrival, Marion and Alex's apartment was sparkling clean and extremely tidy. The flat itself is comfy, well-equipped and beautifully furnished, with modern appliances in the kitchen and character throughout. I especially liked the little shelves of trinkets that previous guests had left. It was a pleasure to return to the flat after a day of exploring the surrounding landscape, and I hope to return again one day for a longer stay. Thank you for a quiet and relaxing break.

  • Marion’s place is superb. Absolutely gorgeous space with views across the hillside. Really beautiful. The room was so clean and stylishly decorated and very comfortable for a weekend away. Marion left us welsh cakes and barabrith as a welcome which was very thoughtful. It’s only a 15 minute drive to Mach which is full of cafes and restaurants and there are many possible walks nearby. Would highly recommend this spot as a base for a south Snowdonia adventure.

  • Wonderful host in a wonderful location. A sweet little cottage, that overlook the mountains of Snowdonia. There are some beautiful little touches through out the cottage including welsh cakes left in the kitchen for our arrival. The bed was comfy and the kitchen was well equip for cooking. We'll definitely be back!

    Jessica2019-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay. Modern studio with every facility you could want. The most beautiful views on the drive up and once you arrive. About 5 miles from Machynlleth where the best local shops are. Really enjoyed our stay.

  • We had a wonderful stay! The location was beautiful and we had such a warm welcome. The annex was clean, beautifully furnished and had everything you needed. We would highly recommend a visit!

  • If you want to relax with beautiful views and be in a central location then this property is definately worth staying at. Right from deciding to stay here, everything was perfect. Marion has really made a great effort to make this beautiful little property a home from home for people like us. She had thought of everything and did provide everything, even little welcome gifts for when we arrived! Marions knowlege of the surrounding area is good and she even has guides for places to visit and eat. She will even lend you her iron if you really need to do some!!! One of the best places that we have ever stayed in. Good luck for the future venture Marion and than you for making our stay so nice, we will look foward to staying again soon. Al and Joanne

  • We were lucky to stumble across this lovely listing while looking for properties for the bank holiday weekend, and what a find it was! We really enjoyed our stay. The place has everything you need, the hosts have really thought through every detail. All the things and furniture are spotlessly clean and new, but there is still a rustic feel to all of it. The views themselves are truly stunning! We were given a very warm welcome and a lot of privacy (it felt we were in a separate cottage as it was very quiet for the whole duration of our stay) but we were also able to get the help and advice we needed. It was fantastic value for money and well above everything else on the market. We'd sincerely recommend it and will definitely return!

This one bedroom self-catering cottage, ideal for two persons, was fully refurbished in 2016 to provide an open plan lounge with dining area and kitchen. Adjacent to the bedroom upstairs is a very large shower room. The bedroom can be twins or a superking.
  • Sue and Paddy were fantastic hosts and the place itself was like a home from home - some lovely touches such as eggs from their chickens and a bottle of prosecco to welcome in the new year! The location was beautiful with plenty of wildlife. The accommodation had everything you could need - microwave, oven, hob, enormous bed, brilliant shower... we'd be back in a heartbeat. Plenty to do nearby and a lovely pub a 5 minute drive away.

    Gemma2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage felt so clean, cosy and comfortable. Sue and Paddy both really welcoming, friendly and helpful. Great place to stay to discover the beauty of Mid Wales.

    Marilyn2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is really lovely, especially the gardens and gorgeous dramatic scenery nearby. Sue and Paddy are very friendly and recommended some good pubs and places to visit. The eggs, jam and cakes was a very sweet touch and we really appreciated it. We felt like we just wanted to relax in the garden for the whole weekend instead of doing what we had planned! Would highly recommend staying here.

    Fran2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • The place is very cozy and comfortable. The kitchen is very, very good equipped, the garden is amazing. Sue and Paddy live next door and are very helpful. The Old Coach House lies in the middle of a wide valley, just beside the river Dyfi (?).

    Marianne2019-06-10T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Old Coach House. There was not a single detail that was missed - they had thought of everything! We were greeted by Paddy and Sue and made to feel so welcome. They went out of their way to make sure you enjoyed your stay, suggesting local restaurants, places to visit, they even printed out the weather map for the day we were going up Snowdon and to our surprise the weather was going to be perfect! We were extremely grateful for the eggs, jam and scones that were left for us and they were absolutely delicious. The bed was huge and very comfortable, the shower was lovely and hot which is just what you needed after a day of walking and exploring around Wales! Would highly recommend and would definitely visit again! Thank you Paddy & Sue! X

  • This is a wonderful cottage set in beautiful and peaceful surroundings. We loved waking up seeing little lambs and sheep in the fields. Sue and Paddy were great hosts - friendly, welcoming and helpful. We appreciated the homemade jam, fresh eggs and yummy cake. The cottage had everything we needed and more. I liked the fact that they provided local tea bags, hot chocolate, hand wash and shower gel. We were grateful for the Sky TV package to watch some films after long days walking and sightseeing. The location was ideal for us visiting Barmouth, catching the coastal train and the Precipice walk. I would definitely recommend the cottage.

    Lai2019-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, great location for hiking in the mountains, near Cader Idris and Dolgellau. Sue and her husband are really very kind and hospitable. Everything was there for a nice stay in the Wales. Accommodation very very clean, well decorated, practical. The bed is super comfortable! We will return for sure!

Thanks Annie, we will definitely return again some day to experience off grid living in warmer months too!

  • Wonderful place to stay. The cabin has everything you'd need. It was spotless, well designed and there were hot water bottles and lots of extra blankets for a cold winter weekend. Sioned was an excellent host, very attentive and meticulous with directions to find the hut. Definitely be staying again soon.

    Chris2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic break of a few nights in Cut Mawr. The hut is so well positioned and built, with lots of great touches, like a customised OS map of the area. Some of the highlights were being next to the beautiful stream, watching a barn owl hunting over the field, and seeing shooting stars from bed. Sioned was a brilliant host, and we really hope to be back before too long.

A lovely old renovated cottage with inglenook fireplace, wood burning stove and mezzanine. It is well equipped for your stay as I have tried to make it a home from home for you. There will always be some welcome goodies and you can sleep in snuggly beds made with 100% cotton or organic cotton sheets and feather and down duvets. The cottage is situated in the pretty wooded Dulas valley near the historic town of Machynlleth, close to Snowdonia and the sea.
The cottage is south facing and is full of light, even on dull days. We love books and plants so have filled the space with them for you to enjoy. There is a secluded and sheltered garden behind the cottage - a patio with garden furniture and a woodland walk leading to a summer house where you can do a spot of bird watching (binoculars provided) and in the colder months we put out bird feeders. There is a shed where you can keep your bikes if you bring them and a padlock is available if you need it. We hope that guests will be happy and contented in the cottage whatever the weather and season - you are very welcome here
Machynlleth has many independent shops and is a lovely place to spend your time. On Wednesdays there is an historic market on the main street where you can buy many local products. The Dyfi Valley is very special - mountains, the sea, fantastic walks and bike rides to discover. We've lived here for a long time so have lots of information about the area. Jean loves walking and there are maps and guide books in the cottage. The lovely resort of Aberdyfi is a short drive away as is the bird reserve at Ynys hir and the coastal reserve at Ynys las.
  • Lovely cottage in a semi-remote area. Ideal for chilling out in front of the wood burning stove in winter or a good base for exploring more of this beautiful part of Wales. Lots of books and magazines to read and a reasonably well equipped kitchen makes self catering an easy option.

    Howard2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous cottage just outside of Machynlleth. Jean was a fantastic host, really helpful and friendly and even left a little welcome pack with home made jam and chocolate. The cottage is peaceful and has a massive living space and two comfortable bedrooms, amazing value for money.

  • Our stay with Jean was absolutely perfect, despite going during Storm Dennis! We had everything we need to hunker down and be warm and snug . You are not far from Mach, so we could get anything we needed, and get back to our cute cottage all tucked away! There are many thoughtful touches, and it really felt special arriving and seeing how welcomed we were. Could not recommend enough! Thank you Jean for making our trip to Wales so special

  • We Stayed here for 3 nights over New Year and it was just what we wanted! Quiet and cosy. Check in was so easy and communication throughout was excellent. We loved the little touches and the welcome tray of goodies 😊 It was bigger than we expected and the log burner was great after a nice long walk. We loved all of the books! We even found a walk in one of them which came right past the cottage meaning we could leave the car and head out on the hills for the day! It was a perfect few days away in such beautiful surroundings.

  • What a lovely cottage! We had a brilliant stay here - the surrounding countryside is beautiful, the cottage has everything you need and you could spend hours by the fire, reading Jean's vast collection of books. Isfryn is a self-contained property in the beautiful Dyfi valley sleeping 2 adults. It adjoins the former Hebron chapel, which is now our home. Fully renovated in March 2016 it features new a bathroom & kitchen & a double sided wood burning stove.
A very warm welcome to Isfryn from your hosts Steve and Linda. Isfryn (which means ‘under the hill’ in Welsh) forms a completely self-contained property, separated by 3ft thick walls of slate from Ty Hebron, the adjoining former Methodist chapel, which is now our home. Isfryn was built in the 1870s as a home for the chapel minister. We bought it in June 2015, when it was in a neglected state. It was fully renovated over the following 6 months and opened for visitors in Spring 2016. Renovating this cottage has been a very happy experience, which we hope is reflected in its cheerful and welcoming interior. It offers cosy and comfortable accommodation for two adults. To make you feel at home from the moment you arrive, you will be greeted by a welcome basket of goodies, many of which will be home-made by us. Having fully explored that, you can explore the rest of the cottage… In the living room, the most prominent feature is an open hearth with hearth stones of beautiful local slate, which connects this room with the dining room beyond. It contains a double sided wood burner, so you don’t need to leave your warm and cosy fire behind when you go to eat at the table! The living room has two comfortable two seater sofas, satellite TV, free WiFi (we have high speed fibre optic broadband), DVD player, a selection of DVDs and well stocked book shelves. In the bureau, you will find a variety of games, so in the event of inclement weather, you can settle comfortably indoors and be well entertained. As with the rest of the house, the walls are decorated with original prints, many by local artists. In the living room, you will find two USB charging sockets so that you can conveniently charge up any electronic items. The dining room furniture, which dates from the mid 1800s, was bought by Linda with money left to her by her grandmother and was used in her own house for many years. We are delighted to share it with you now and hope you enjoy the presence of furniture appropriate to the age of the cottage. The table comfortably seats four adults. If you like music to dine by, you will find a CD player and a variety of CDs on the buffet stand. We have tried to make maximum use of the space in Isfryn to offer you everything you need for your holiday. In this spirit, in the cupboard under the stairs you will find a washer/dryer, washing liquid and fabric conditioner, a table top dishwasher, dishwashing tablets, an iron and a table top ironing board. The kitchen has an induction hob, electric oven, microwave, fridge with a small freezer compartment and a kettle. You’ll find the basics like sugar, cooking oil, salt and pepper, cling film and foil waiting for you. (Tea and coffee as well as some fresh milk and butter will be provided in your welcome pack.) A rear porch completes the ground floor and offers coat hooks and a boot rack for muddy or wet footwear. Upstairs, the bedroom contains a super-comfy, super-king sized bed which can be converted to twin beds if desired. There is a charming, up-cycled wardrobe dating from the era when it was felt useful to have shelves labelled to tell you where to keep your socks and underwear! In the bedside table drawers, you will find a hairdryer, and a cooling mat in case you bring your straighteners. There is another well-stocked book shelf to make sure you can read yourself into a peaceful sleep. The large landing is set up as an additional sitting room. Yet another bookshelf ensures that passing comfortable afternoons curled up on the day bed lost in a good book, or reading yourself into a comfortable doze is also an option here. The bathroom has a large, walk in shower with both drench and hand held shower heads, a toilet, a heated towel rail, an illuminated mirror with shaving point and a magnifying mirror. You will find basics such as cotton wool, cotton buds and tissues provided for you. We provide all bed linen, a choice of pillows, towels, tea towels and waffle-weave bathrobes for your comfort. All utilities are included. We provide you with two baskets of logs for the wood burner and you will be able to purchase further bags from us if you need them. Your welcome pack will include some lovely things to get you started, but you can easily stock up on the essentials nearby.
Isfryn is on the southern border of the Snowdonia National Park in the village of Aberangell, right in the heart of the Dyfi Valley in beautiful Mid Wales. ‘Aberangell’ translates as ‘The mouth of the Angel’ and the village is where the River Angell merges with the Dyfi. UNESCO awarded the Dyfi Valley Biosphere Status in 2009 in recognition of the unique and wonderful combination of its environment, wildlife, people, language, history and culture. Five minutes’ drive away and just up the hill from the Brigands Inn is the local garage, shop and cafe. It stocks many of the essentials such as newspapers, bread, milk, a range of canned, chilled, frozen and household goods as well as confectionery. It is also licensed. If you’d like someone else to be responsible for your breakfast, they serve the full monty and a range of other foods and drinks at the adjoining cafe all day. For more substantial stocking up, Machynlleth (10 miles) has two large Co-Ops and a small Spar, plus a range of other shops including two bakeries, and the Wednesday street market is great for for fresh produce and baked goods. In the opposite direction, Dolgellau (12 miles) has a reasonably large Co-Op and a large EuroSpar as well as lots of local shops and cafes. It is the perfect area for anyone who enjoys the outdoors, with the beautiful Aran and Cambrian Mountains just down the road, and Pumlumon and Cadair Idris within easy reach. The spectacular high peaks of Northern Snowdonia are just an hour’s drive away. There are walks that you can take straight out of the door, or if you’d like some guidance in exploring nearby or further afield, Steve works as a qualified Mountain Leader and you can book him to take you out on guided walks that suit your wishes and stamina levels! If you love bird watching, there is plenty to see in this area, with Red Kites and Buzzards frequently seen overhead and a multitude of smaller birds. The Red Kite Centre at Bwlch Nant yr Arian and The RSPB Nature Reserve of Ynys Hir are less than half an hour away and the award-winning Dyfi Osprey Project is just twenty minutes down the road. If you fancy getting away from it all try visiting Glaslyn reserve. There is a huge variety of wildlife in the area. There is a great choice of stunning walks out of the door or a short drive away from Isfryn. Cadair Idris, at 893m, is the most well known of the local mountains, about 25 minutes’ drive away. Less well known is the Aran range, which is actually slightly taller than Cadair; an ascent of Aran Fawddwy or a traverse of the entire Aran ridge from Cwm Cywarch (about 15 minutes drive away) is a fantastic day out and has the benefit of a great pub at beginning and end. About 30 minutes North of Isfryn the Rhinogs are a little known gem of an area with a huge number of hills and waterfalls to explore and to the South is the Plynlimon range (or Pumlumon as we’d have it here). Snowdon itself is just an hour away. Directly from the cottage there are options for anything from 5-20 minute pre-dinner strolls along the lane or up Pen y Clipiau to take in some views of the Dyfi valley, half day rambles beside the local rivers or exploring abandoned slate mines to full days out in the local hills. We’re also on the long-distance Dyfi Valley Way. Isfryn is well supplied with walking guides and a local OS map which you’re welcome to borrow. We’re very happy to provide suggestions too. Mountain biking is a favourite local pastime and there are miles of forest tracks in the hills behind Aberangell that you can access from our front door. The the famous Coed Y Brenin trails are within easy reach, as are the Machynlleth Bike trails. You are welcome to borrow some of our bikes and helmets for local rides. For keen anglers, the Dyfi is famous for its salmon, brown trout and sea trout. Day tickets and season tickets are available. For golfers, the website 100 Best Golf Courses in the World lists the historic and scenic courses available at Llandrindod Wells, Cradoc, Welshpool, Builth Wells and Machynlleth as the best in the region. There are also championship links courses at Borth, Harlech and Aberdovey. If rock climbing is your passion Snowdonia is fantastic, or if you fancy giving it a try, Steve is a qualified instructor and can teach or accompany you or just recommend the best places nearby. You can combine a break in the countryside with the thrill of the alps at the Llandudno Ski and Snowboard Centre, where you can ski, snowboard, toboggan and sno-tube to your heart’s content! For lots more adventure ideas, see Show Me Wales For those seeking a more chilled approach to life, the beaches in this area are beautiful. From the classic seaside towns of Aberdovey and Aberystwyth to the vast beach at Barmouth or the National Nature Reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest that is Harlech beach, with its dunes overlooked by the fourteenth century castle, there is something to suit everyone’s taste and much to discover. The market towns of Machynlleth and Dolgellau are both around 10 miles from Aberangell and both have much to offer. Machynlleth has a vibrant street market every Wednesday and is home to the national Museum of Modern Art, situated at Y Tabernacl and to the Owain Glyndwr Museum. Dolgellau is a quaint, stone town with the Afon Mawddach river running through it. Both have a wide range of individual shops, cafes and pubs to discover as well as having supermarkets and pharmacies. Only a short drive away from Aberangell, you will find the Corris Craft Centre offering 8 studios of locally made craft items as well as Welsh food and drink shop and a café. The site is also home to King Arthur’s Labyrinth and the highly recommended Corris Mine Explorers . Let your excellent guide Mark take you on a fascinating tour of the vast slate mine that lies inside the Corris hills. The world famous Centre for Alternative Technology can be found less than 15 minutes’ drive away. To watch the world go by in relaxing style, take one of the Great Little Trains of Wales , many of which are within easy reach of Isfryn. The mainline Arriva train services also have many scenic routes and can be a lovely and relaxed way to access local attractions. You can download a guide to exploring by train and you’ll find some in Isfryn for your use too. There is a variety of pubs within easy distances where you can relax and savour their very different characters. The nearest pub is The Brigands Inn (named after the band of red haired brigands who terrorised this area in the 1500s), just 2.5 miles down the road in the tiny hamlet of Mallwyd. Dinas Mawddwy is 3 miles away and boasts the Red Lion (Y Llew Coch in Welsh), where you can be sure of good, home cooked pub food and plenty of it! Cemmaes is the home of the Penrhos Arms and at Glantwymyn, you will find the Dovey Valley with its very sociable folk music night on the first Sunday of every month. If you fancy a trip further off the beaten track, why not visit the Tafarn Dwynant at Ceinws for a mix of pub and art gallery. For a welcome tea break from your exploring, try Coffi Camlan at the lovely Camlan Garden centre just on the outskirts of Dinas Mawddwy . Delicious cakes, breakfasts and light bites and excellent coffee (as well as a range of other drinks) If you’re in Corris, call in at Idris Stores Café and shop for delicious treats or stop by for a pint at the Slaters Arms just up the street where Bella, the pub Labrador, will offer a friendly welcome. For the ultimate end to the evening on clear nights, you don’t have to travel far out of the villages to find velvet dark skies and catch stunning views of the stars before wandering home to sink into Isfryn’s comfy beds.
  • We had a really wonderful stay at Steve and Linda's cottage. The property is stylish and full of character as well as being immaculately clean. The location is extremely peaceful and is well located for relaxing local walks or for something more challenging if you fancy. We were going to, but then the bed was too comfortable. The kitchen has everything you need to cook a good meal and organise packed lunches. Steve & Linda also provided a basket of delicious cake, bread , humous and more besides, which was hugely appreciated. I understand there are some good pubs and cafes nearby, I look forward to finding out next time, but a log-fire and a large collection of DVDs was all we needed. Highly recommended, I look forward to visiting again.

  • A lovely, stylish and cosy cottage in the heart of mid Wales countryside with easy access to nearby market town, coast and mountains.

  • I cannot recommend Steve and Linda’s cottage highly enough. From the warm welcome, to the delicious largely home made welcome pack, through to the stylish decor and extremely comfortable beds, this place is more like home, or a very good boutique hotel, than a B and B. Situated in one of the most beautiful parts of the UK, and with two wonderful and very different pubs just a short drive away, I would advise you to get your booking in early. We will certainly be back.

  • My husband and I spent 4 fabulous nights at Isfryn Cottage. I echo all the previous positive reviews, as our hosts Linda and Steve were brilliant. In summary: 1. Communication prior to our stay was prompt and extremely helpful. 2. They have their own website dedicated to Isfryn Cottage, which is extremely informative and well worth a read. 3. They preempted and catered for all of our needs and the Cottage was lovely and clean and matched the description on the Airbnb website. 4. Enormous effort had been made to provide information/suggestions for those who like walking or prefer to drive plus places of interest and places to eat etc 5. For anyone who just wants to stay still and relax there is a stack of DVD’s and books that you could happily wade through. Coupled with the magnificent countryside and my husband’s delight in seeing some military aircraft fly through the Mach Loop I can not recommend this property highly enough.

  • Steve and Linda are a lovely welcoming couple who are very thoughtful and provide a lovely cottage. The accommodation is brilliant, there is everything you need in it with some additional touches such as the welcome pack. Whether you are staying for a few days or a week you will feel at home here. Ideal location, easy to get to and near to lots of great parts of Wales yet has the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere. We would definitely recommend.

  • Steve & Linda's place is absolutely fantastic! :D

    Timothy2019-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • Steve and Linda were the perfect hosts. We new they were there if needed but they kept a low profile. The accommodation was excellent, tastefully decorated and very comfortable. The location is down a quiet road in the village within a short walk of a beautiful river, the Afon Angell and within a short drive of many of the local destinations such as Machynlleth, Tywyn and Barmouth. We couldn't recommend this accommodation enough.

  • Steve and Linda are the most welcoming hosts I’ve encountered on Airbnb. Really cosy space, delivering everything advertised. Spotlessly clean, private, quiet and in a great location for exploring Snowdonia. My best ever Airbnb stay when I comes to hospitality and little touches. Could have stayed for weeks.

  • We thought the location was wonderful at the barn; remote enough to feel away from the world with great views but close enough to a village if need be. We enjoyed our stay very much however just noted the place had quite a few clusters of cobwebs in the bedroom and living room, the windows weren’t clean so the bathtub experience looking out was wonderful just would have been nice if it was a little cleaner. All in all we would stay again it was great!

  • The barn is the perfect place to get away from it all and unwind. The location feels really remote, but it’s not too difficult to access up the long drive through beautiful countryside. The place is decorated really stylishly, the beds are all really comfy, and adequate facilities for a large group. It was so cosy spending the evenings gathered around the log burner. We got out walking every day, with beautiful hills and valleys to explore on the doorstep. Highly recommended, we will definitely be planning another visit!

  • I booked Dafydd's place as a surprise weekend away for my best friend's 50th. I knew she needed some time away from the world to recharge her batteries. She and her partner stayed for two nights and then loved it so much, they paid to stay for a third themselves! I wasn't there but she reported what an amazing place it was. The fire was lit for them on their arrival, the views were just spectacular and it was the perfect bolthole for an escape. Dafydd was really helpful with the booking as we had to change the weekend once. Also, he kindly allowed me to have 3 birthday parcels delivered to his address and took them to the barn so that they were waiting for her on her arrival. She tells me it was SUPER windy up there!!! Take extra layers, slippers and dressing gowns for extra cosy lounging around! The fire was definitely needed - but then again, it was January! All in all, Dafydd was brilliant, his place is gorgeous and I am planning to go myself :)

  • Fantastic, well equipped spot for some peace and quiet.

    Dave2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Thankyou so much for such a wonderful experience and way to enter the new year!! Your photos don’t do the barn ANY justice!!! The place is amazing!

    Lauren2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Dafydd’s place is in a truly amazing location, away from it all and with beautiful views across the valley. We found the drive up to the place absolutely fine and if anything, it just adds to the magic of the place. There were plenty of tea lights and logs for the fire to make it cosy at night, and the hot water bottles went down a treat. The Christmas decorations were a lovely touch and we managed to successfully cook a Christmas dinner. As mentioned in other reviews, the fridge is very very small and so a cool box comes in handy, as do some bath towels to replace the little ones in the place and some bath bubbles for the beautiful bath. All in all, this is a lovely place that we would thoroughly recommend.

    Chelsea2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • It’s a lovely place to get away to. It’s a bit tricky to get to but Dafydd was very helpful. We arrived a bit later than expected and he had already opened the place for us and set up a fire so that it wouldn’t be as cold. It was really nice. Make sure you turn on the little heater early in the evening so that the other rooms are not so cold. 100% recommended

    Stephanie2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • This place is so much better than the photos and description are able to describe. Such a quirky and charming place to stay! The dirt track off the main road is longer than I anticipated and it is very steep in parts but getting to the top makes it worth it. Unspoiled panoramic views for miles. Each of the beds was so comfy and the linen is top quality. The sunken bath with stunning views was a special touch. Plenty of tea lights give the barn a wonderful atmosphere on a cold evening, along with the log burning stove. Our party of 5 were able to charge our phones and have ample lighting considering there is no mains powered electricity. The decked balcony was much bigger than we expected and it would have been fab to have a table out there. The mezzanine and loft bedrooms are open plan so noise could be a problem if there are people wanting to get to bed/get up early. The barn holds the heat well and we found it too hot on the first evening as we kept the stove burning until bedtime, with the chimney goes through the mezzanine bedroom so packs out a lot of heat. Lesson learned and we didn’t replenish the fire on the second evening and it was much more comfortable. We cooked meals on both nights and had enough utensils and crockery and the little extras of oil, salt, pepper etc were great to have. We’d stay here again in a heartbeat!

  • Ann s place was excellent . We had come as 4 adults and the place was very nice and cosy for a cold winter night . Amenities were available and Ann even gave us extra blankets for the night . The place has wonderful views for taking photos ! Just a note that mobile signal is very weak here and you can’t access the Internet . The directions in google maps is not accurate and hence it’s best to follow the directions of Ann to get to her place . Since mobile connectivity is weak , best to plan this in advance to reach the place . We got lost but Ann was very kind to come in her car to direct us to the right place ! Definitely a place worth going .

  • This big pod is down a beaten track, the drive is a little hard but it's definitely worth it when you get there. The pod is stunning and the pictures just don't do it justice! Be sure to step outside the pod at night to see the amazing night sky, there's limited light pollution! We'll be back 😊
