Places to stay in Chawton
A lovely double room with TV, WIFI, mini fridge and a spacious WC/shower room. Situated on the ground floor of a 17th century cottage directly opposite Jane Austen's House and next door to The Greyfriar pub and the café Cassandra's Cup where breakfast is available.
Chawton is one of the prettiest villages in Hampshire. From the cottage there is access to many country walks. It is also within easy access of several other historic villages and towns such as Selborne (Gilbert White's museum), Alton (The Watercress Line), Alresford and Winchester.
Chawton is the postcard perfect English village with its many period houses, Jane Austen's House and the magnificent Chawton House (open to the public) - not to mention the Chawton cricket pitch where cricket is played daily during summer months against a backdrop of sheep and the famous Chawton House shire horses grazing peacefully in their paddock. Being in the middle of a National Park, Chawton is surrounded by outstandingly beautiful countryside. At the same time, it is not a remote village. It is within walking distance of the market town Alton which has several shops, banks and rail links to the rest of the country, including London, less than 1 hour away by train.
  • Perfect place for any Jane Austen fan since the place is just crossing the street from the JA house museum. It's a lovely cottage! On Cassandra's cup (the restaurant nextdoor) they serve delicious English breakfast and tea. Chawton is a gorgeous town we loved it!

  • The hosts were amazing. From communication prior to my stay to hunting me down to return my passport which I left behind. Beautiful place. If you are a Jane Austen fan there is only one place to stay. My thanks to Melane and I will definitely be booking again.

  • This is the perfect place for fans of Jane Austen to stay. You are just steps away from her home and when you’re not visiting the Jane Austen House Museum, you can admire it from the window of your thoughtfully appointed room! I wasn’t sure from the listing if we’d be getting a room in someone’s home or a private space, but it’s completely private—a bit like a studio apartment—which was nice. And Malene was a terrific host. I would definitely stay here again.

  • We had a very cosy stay. It was super easy to find and get access to the cottage. We were travelling via public transport and walking and this place suited us great. Lovely touches like tea and coffee, lots of cushions, blankets and tv. Had dinner and drinks in pub and breakfast in cafe which are both right next door and are lovely places .

  • Neither Catherine Morland, visiting Northanger Abbey, nor Anne Elliot, visiting Lyme, could have been more pleased and delighted than we were with our visit to Cassandra's Cottage in Chawton, Hampshire, UK. Janeites of the world, you who long to see where your favorite literary heroines were born and nurtured, this review is for you! It is easy to get to Chawton from London using public transportation -- just take the Southwestern Railway from Waterloo Station to Alton. From the station in Alton you walk 1.8 miles, or take the 64 bus going toward Winchester, or take a taxi. Ask locals to point you in the right direction if you opt to walk, as we did. Malene is a gracious host, the cottage is comfy and cozy and right across the street from Jane Austen's home where you can wander about the rooms and grounds to your heart's content, taking selfies and trying your hand at writing with a quill pen. Later a lovely walk to Chawton House gives you a full sense of the sweet landscape and verdure that nourished our favorite authoress.

My husband and I live in the house with our two young children. Our home backs onto the Watercress Steam Railway Line - train enthusiasts will love hearing the train pass and seeing the steam... Four Marks & Medstead Watercress station is just a 10mins walk from our home where you can see steam trains passing. Jane Austen’s home in Chawton is 5mins drive away. We are located on the edge of the South Downs 30/40mins from larger towns (Farnham, Basingstoke, Southampton and Winchester).
Our house is situated in rural Medstead village, on the edge of Four Marks village with easy access to the A31 Winchester Road. We are 5mins from Chawton village (the home of Jane Austen) & 10mins from Alton Market Town and station. We live in a newly built house, with open, quiet space to the front of our house and a large garden to the rear which is not overlooked. The room is a spacious double bedroom with a king bed plus an en-suite, looking out to the rear of the property towards the steam train line. Included in the room is a small convenience fridge, kettle with complimentary tea and coffee plus a hairdryer and a safe. WiFi is available for guests also. We also provide a basic ‘help yourself’ style breakfast which includes a selection of cereals and bread for toasting. We have local convenience shops within a 5minute walk plus a range of takeaway options for dinner. Guests are welcome to use or kitchen to eat dinner if they use the takeaway options. There are other dining options a short drive away.
We love living in this area, based in a rural location with a few small shops offering essentials close by. We are lucky to have a range of places to eat in the evening close by including a Curry, Chinese, Fish and Chips and Kebabs. There are also a range of restaurants and pubs within 10/20mins drive which are often recommended. There are a number of independent cafes within a short walk or a longer hike (depending on your preference) which are excellent. Some of these include Loaf, Garthowen Garden Centre Treetops Cafe & Nosh. An adjacent village, Chawton, was the home of the Author - Jane Austen. You can visit her home and garden. Chawton house is also open for visits. Central to the village is an old English pub and a tea room to offer a variety of refreshments. Selborne is a 20minute drive away, the old, quaint village of Gilbert White. Other local attractions include: Alice Holt (biking, running, walking trails including the Gruffalo and Zog trails) Birdworld Marwell zoo Winchester Science museum Lavender Fields Hattingley valley wines Lasham gliding Triple F Brewery with a bar (in walking distance 5mins) The area is a great stop off spot for commuters and we also have local businesses operating in the area, such as Blindingly Simple which offers courses for home furnishing (10 min walk).
  • Being a recent new build, the single room with en-suite facilities is just what one could want from a relaxing stay. The family are lovely and welcoming too, and door service from one of the youngsters was a lovely touch. The views from the room are superb and it was great to hear a Tawny Owl at night.

    Matt2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • A warm pristine and very comfortable stay. All directions and amenities were; available and to hand. Couldn’t have wanted for anything more. Lovely quiet room perfect for a good overnight rest.

  • Very near to Chawton so great for visitors looking for Jane Austen. A lovely room well appointed with tea making facilities and en suite.

  • We had a great stay at Lara's beautiful house. The room is very comfortable, cosy, and full of light. Everything is absolutely spotless! There's even a breakfast which is always a big bonus. Thank you Lara for the vegan milk and butter! Highly recommended.

    Greg2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Having never stayed in someone's home before as we generally book a suite or annex we were uncertain but Lara and her family were welcoming and lovely. The room is spotless and comfy, a continental breakfast was laid out for us to choose from. We would love to stay there again if we are that way. Definitely reccomend these hosts and there home.

    Tina2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Really nice place, thanks again

  • What a fabulous little place this is and what lovely hosts Emma and Sam are! I cannot recommend this stylish little lodge high enough, it’s very comfortable and spotlessly clean and there are so many lovely little touches that make it feel like a home away from home. The location and scenery are also gorgeous. Thank you for a lovely stay :-) xx

  • Wow, what a wonderful retreat! Upon walking through the door we were greeted with fresh flapjacks and other local foods that were SO delicious. Would absolutely stay there again, thanks Emma! :)

  • Very good hospitality

  • Denise was a fantastic host who made us feel exceptionally welcome in her own home. She was full of useful tips about places to visit and made sure coffee, tea or a much needed bacon and egg sandwich was on hand when needed. Her home is beautiful and comfortable with two of the most adorable dogs ever. Highly recommend!

  • Very clean and tidy house. Cosy room. Nice big garden. And situated in a very calm place though near to commodities. We were free to use everything. Denise is a pleasant and helpful lady who listened to our needs and even proposed to iron our clothes. We strongly recommend her to anyone looking for a stay in this area.

Our house "Prowtings" sits in the centre of the charming village of Chawton, a stones throw from Jane Austen's house. It features regularly in her letters as a property she visited to socialise with friends. Visitors can stay in the beautifully refurbished two doubled bedroom split level annexe in the original old section of the house dated 1713 (the right hand section as you look at the front of the house).
The annexe is very well equipped with everything you will need for a comfortable stay. You'll have your own front door access, living room/dining room, kitchen, separate cloakroom and toilet downstairs, bath and shower room and two large double rooms looking out over the front lawns upstairs. The kitchen has all the modcons, - dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster, kettle, oven, fridge, utensils, cutlery etc. The living room has two comfortable sofas, a coffee table, TV, DVD player and a selection of DVDs, writing desk along with local maps, things to do and places to see.
We live in Chawton, which is one of the most picturesque villages in Hampshire and regarded as the literary home of Jane Austen. She moved here in 1809 with her family and happily spent the last 8 years of her life here producing all her novels - revising previous drafts, including Pride and Prejudice, and writing her three later novels including Emma. She expressed her joy at being in Chawton in a poem to her brother: My dearest Frank, I wish you joy: "Our Chawton home, how much we find Already in it, to our mind; And how convinced, that when complete It will all other Houses beat That ever have been made or mended With rooms concise, or rooms distended." J.A. Austen, 26 July, 1809 Chawton is fantastically located and there is plenty to see and do. It sits within the South Downs National Park and surrounded by beautiful countryside. There are many walks through and from the village including the "Jane Austen Walk" which is a 4.5 mile circular walk and features our home, Prowtings. The village is full of pretty thatched cottages, has a lovely tea room, a very good child friendly pub, village hall (which hosts evening clubs and entertainment and an antiques fair on the 3rd Sunday of each month), a playground, a cricket pitch where you can watch games in the summertime, a village church and churchyard where Jane Austen's mother and sister are buried, as well of course as the world famous Jane Austen House Museum (open from March) and the wonderful Chawton House Library an Elizabethan Manor, with it's sweeping lawns, terraces, walled garden, once owned by Jane Austen's brother Edward Knight. The market town of Alton is 5 minutes by car and 15 minutes on foot. Jane and her sister Casssandra walked to Alton regularly to shop and their brother Henry, who was a London banker, had a branch bank at 10 High Street. Today Alton has a variety of supermarkets, shops, banks and things to do. You can ride the steam trains on the Watercress Line, visit the Curtis Museum, the Allen Gallery and the public gardens and playground (where you might catch a concert band performing) or go to the sports centre for a swim or a climb on the climbing wall! Alton's train station provides rail links to the rest of the country, and a direct line to London. London Waterloo can be reached in an hour. The village of Selbourne with Gilbert White's museum is 5 minutes drive away and the historic market towns of Alresford and Farnham (with Birdworld and Alice Holt Adventure Forest) are 15 minutes drive. Slightly further a field at 20 minutes drive are Winchester with its fantastic old town and Cathedral with amazing Science Museum; Basingstoke with great shopping and leisure facilities (cinemas, ice skating, bowling, aquadrome) and Petersfield, the Norman market town with markets on Wednesday and Saturday. Guildford can be reached in 30 minutes and Portsmouth, the New Forest, Southampton, Chichester and Goodwood, all with their multitude of attractions, within 45 minutes.
  • Would definitely recommend staying here . As described, really clean and in a lovely location. We recommend the Greyfriars pub and Chawton house to visit, both within walking distance.

  • Great accommodation, a private annex on a lovely country house. Expansive grounds, beautiful trees and lovely bird life. Excellent location in the charming village of Chawton. Some terrific walks as well. Tom and Jenny were excellent hosts and we all loved the gentle, friendly Joey, the dog! But be prepared to play ball with him. All in all a highly recommended property.

  • We had a lovely stay at Tom and Jenny's. It was very comfortable, clean, peaceful and in a lovely location. Tom and Jenny were quick to respond to any questions and were very helpful. Joan and Tania

  • I cannot recommend the self contained annex of this beautiful house surrounded by landscaped gardens highly enough. Classic Vintage charm, every need is catered for above and beyond expectation. The hosts are a lovely friendly family, easy to contact and deal with and took care of all our needs even with very delayed arrival due to planes and trains. One of the nicest places I have ever stayed. Cant wait to return!

The house is located on a hill within walking distance of the town, buses and the train station. Jane Austen's House Museum is nearby in the village of Chawton. Alton is surrounded with picturesque villages with old worldly pubs. Alton is not far from Winchester, Guildford and historic town of Petersfield and is just over an hour by train to Waterloo Station in London.
The room is a small room with a platform bed with the access by a built in sturdy ladder. There are great views from this room. A desk and chair is under the bed. There is also a wardrobe.
It is a short walk to the town where there are a variety of restaurants, cafes, supermarkets and specialist shops.
  • Nice room and great location :) Gill is a lovely host and I really enjoyed my stay with her. I arrived late in the evening and she even picked me up from the train station!

  • My stay with Gill was absolutely lovely and far exceeded my expectations! I stayed in the single room with the platform bed - very exciting, I felt like a child again! Charmingly furnished and spotlessly clean, as was the bathroom. The location was ideal with easy access to the high street, local amenities, and buses to the surrounding places of interest. Gill's hospitality and knowledge of the area made my visit all the more worthwhile!

  • This is a cozy, quiet and a confy place. It's exactly for a woman who is traveling alone and need some safety and feeling like home during a long trip. The location is amazing, close to the supermarkets and pubs in a walk distance. What was crucial for me due to my interest in do the Jane Austen's walk trail from Alton to Chawton. Gill is an wonderful host, she will make you feel home. Easy person and so communicative.

Warren Farm is 2 miles from Alton, which is famous for the Watercress Line steam railway and the home of Jane Austen. We are also on the edge of the South Downs National Park and within easy reach of Winchester and the Historic Dockyards and ferry terminals in Portsmouth. The Stables has it's own entrance from the beautiful garden room which adjoins our barn. There are country views and footpaths if you are feeling energetic! We look forward to welcoming you.
There are seating areas in the garden and the garden room which guests are free to use but these are shared with us and occasionally our grandchildren too. With only one close neighbour we are situated in the beautiful north Hampshire countryside. It is a quiet rural area but guests should be aware that, although well screened from the road, traffic can sometimes be heard but is not continuous. We have a no smoking policy both inside the Stables and in all outside areas.
Within easy reach there are good country pubs that offer excellent food and drinks. Closest is The Sun at Bentworth while the Yew Tree at Wield and the Royal Oak at Lasham are a little further. Lasham is home to one of the largest gliding centres and is only 5 minutes drive.
  • Second stay here and was just as brilliant as the last time, Suzy really goes the extra mile, the stables are super clean and homely and in the perfect location for a relaxing break. Would highly recommend

This pretty king sized bedroom is on the first floor of our family home with en-suite shower, toilet and sink. The bed can be split into a twin if this is preferable. There is plenty of space to hang your clothes, a TV and provision to make tea and coffee.  We also have a king and a double sized bedroom listed as 'Great king/ensuite in Four Marks' and 'Kingsized room in Four Marks' if you require any additional rooms for your booking.
Now the last of the children have left our family home, my husband Roland & I thought it would be fun to try Airbnb. Having experienced some great hosts ourselves we will endeavour to ensure we give the same experience to our guests.
Four Marks has a few shops including a Tesco's Express, Co-Op, BP garage/M&S and a few independent shops which include a pharmacy, bakery, butchers and local park. We also have two Indian restaurants’, a fish and chip shop and a Chinese takeaway. Alton is a market town 4 miles away that has shops, banks and rail line direct to London (Waterloo) which is just over a 1 hour away and has links to all other destinations. Petersfield, Basingstoke and Alresford are approx. 15 - 20 mins drive away and both old market towns and they have a lovely selection of restaurants, independent shops and a few chain stores. Petersfield has a direct train line to Portsmouth giving easy access to the Historic Naval Dockyard (this is about 40mins drive from us). We are in beautiful the South Downs National Park, and in easy access of some historic villages such as Chawton, which is a delightful English village with many period houses including Jane Austen's House and the Chawton House Library - which is open to the public. Selbourne also has Gilbert White's museum. If you can jump in the car there many pubs and restaurants in the surrounding towns and villages and we are happy to recommend a few places if required.  The Grange opera is 10 miles away and Hinton Ampner – National Trust house and gardens is only 7 miles away. If you like walking, road biking or mountain biking we have some lovely walks and trails, country lanes etc.
  • We had a lovey stay would recommend

  • Really lovely place and well looked after, thank you!

  • Excellent choice for anyone looking for excellent service and amazing hospitality. Fiona and Roland were very accommodating, especially when we checked in late. The room was very clean and well designed, with a view of a beautiful garden! 10/10 would stay again!

  • I was travelling for work and requested an early check in/late check out, Fiona accommodated this no problem. Fiona and her husband were so welcoming and their house is beautiful. Great location and easy to find, plenty of parking. Room was really spacious and lovely ensuite. I would definitely recommend and stay again, thank you

  • Fiona and Roland accommodated us very last minute again. They are both exceptional hosts, very warm and welcoming. The room was clean, tidy and ready for us. My partner didn't even make it through one of her favourite programmes - she was sound asleep and didn't stir through the night. A very good sign to show how relaxed we felt. Once again, thank you Fiona and Roland for looking after us. We really enjoyed your company. Xx

    John2019-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • Fiona, Roland and Sigournay - you are absolute legends! Once again our hosts accommodated us at really late notice. Roland and Fiona were on a date night and made arrangments through their daughter Sigournay. A very smooth operation indeed! Communication was prompt. Our hosts are approachable and couldn't do enough to ensure our stay was comfortable. We had a warm welcome from Sigournay who made sure we had everything that we needed for our stay. Parking is on the driveway, plenty of space for our big car and within seconds of the front door. We stayed in a different room to our first stay. Again it was clean. Plentiful items for hot drinks were available (with mugs and teaspoon) as well as glasses and bottled water. The sweet treats were very welcome too. The bedroom looks large in the photos - it is even larger in reality. Plenty of storage for all our suitcases and rucksacks. Lots of surface space at a good height for putting our gadgets on. Great TV reception which was a good distraction for my partner who was able to relax to her favourite programmes after a long day at work. Plenty of sockets, conveniently located to charge up our mobiles. Broadband is excellent and consistent. All the required information for connectivity is at hand and clearly stated in the listing too when one has booked. Local tips and taxi firms are also provided. The bedroom faces the beautiful garden - very quiet and calm. The bed is very comfortable with a medium firmness to the mattress. Another good night's sleep was had by both of us. We couldn't get up for work - or in my case - I didn't want to get up for work. The ensuite shower room with WC is very clean. The Mira electric shower is powerful. Shampoos, body washes, ear buds, 'lady items' etc were also provided - everything and more for those little emergencies! We met the other guest but didn't hear him or when Roland and Fiona returned - no disturbances during the night. Another relaxing stay! Thank you Fiona, Roland and Sigournay for making our stay comfortable again. You are fab hosts. Extra tip for other guests: we had an enjoyable and hearty meal at the Saffron Indian restaurant which is minutes away by car - reasonably priced and excellent service.

  • Beautiful barn conversion in Lasham with access to the garden at the back. We had a lovely stay and would stay again/recommend ! Especially loved all the animals outside the barn :)

    Isabelle2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Having stayed a couple of times I can confirm that the accommodation is delightful, in a quaint rustic setting. Outside there are very friendly dogs, a family cat and hens pecking in the yard. An ideal country retreat, particularly during the warmer months, and Catherine is a pleasant, thoughtful host. Well recommended.

  • Very lovely stay at the barn. The view is magnificent when waking up in the morning and the whole place is breathing history. Catherine is a wonderful host and her daughter received us very kindly upon arrival. Best WiFi reception we've had in or week's stay in England. Definitely recommend if you like rural places.

Beautiful barn space in the heart of the Hampshire countryside situated on the edge of a village. On the first floor there is a UK Superking bed which can be split into twin beds at £10 extra cost, a table for two people and shower room. Breakfast items such as fruit, yoghurt, bread for toast, jams, honey, marmite are provided along with tea and 'real' coffee. ** Although there is a small kitchenette, there are no cooking facilities for hot food preparation **
The barn at Lyfield house sits in its own space in the driveway of the main house and boasts the best views of the whole property. There is a king size double bed made with crisp white cotton sheets and an en suite shower room with fluffy bath towels. Being completely separate from the main house means you can relax in total privacy. There is a tiny kitchen where you will also find breakfast staples such as tea, coffee, sugar, honey, marmite, and cereal and on your arrival the fridge will be stocked with butter, milk, jam, juice and pastries so you can enjoy your breakfast in your own time and at your own pace. The kitchen is equipped a small fridge, a kettle and a toaster. The hob is not for use by guests so hot food cannot be prepared. There is a hair dryer, unlimited wifi and a television, a washer/dryer, iron and ironing board are available on request. There is a gym downstairs which can be used by arrangement and at your own risk - I'd always go through machine instructions before use. The tennis court outside can also be used by arrangement.
Medstead is a thriving and large village with a pub and a village shop hosting a post office. Nearby are the larger towns of Alton and Alresford which boast a beautiful Georgian high street and niche shops. We are close to Lasham Gliding and the Jane Austin sites and are only 25 minutes from Winchester.
  • Gorgeous barn in a lovely location, very clean, lovely host thanks for a great stay Juliet. Great for a walk around the area too.

    Danielle2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely place to stay: clean, new and fresh. Juliet left us breakfast things which was very thoughtful and much appreciated. There are no cooking facilities, but there is a kettle and there are lovely places to eat nearby. The Globe in Alresford had great food.

    Luci2019-12-09T00:00:00Z
  • The barn is stunning, situated in beautiful countryside surroundings. The bed was one of the comfiest I’ve ever stayed in! It was easy to get to and Juliet was very informative and helpful. I only went for one night but in future I will stay longer!

    Taylor2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • My Husband and I had a super mini break in this wonderful barn. A compact but beautiful place to stay. Immaculately clean throughout. Bed was very comfy. We had everything we needed. Breakfast supplies were plentiful muesli, cereal, bread, fruit, yogurts, fruit juice etc. Shower was wonderful with two different size shower heads. Radiator/heaters were very effective on a cold winters night. Views from the barn were amazing looking over the countryside. Juliet was extremely helpful and prompt with her replies before our stay. We cannot recommend this place highly enough if you are looking for a mini break and some piece and quiet away from it all. Thank you Juliet it was absolutely perfect in every way.

    Amanda2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • The barn is cozy with beautiful touches throughout, with a really comfy bed. Juliet was really helpful with local tips and places to dine, would definitely array stay again.

    Mitul2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Juliet's place is outstanding. So stylishly decorated, comfortable and spacious. The barn is within a beautiful estate and the views are really special. We stayed for a wedding in the local area so really just needed a bed for the night but we wished we'd stayed another night! Everything was thought of and nothing too much for Juliet. A home away from home. We hope to return very soon. It was also very good value too. Thank you!

    Charlotte2019-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • Juliet met us on arrival and was very friendly. There is plenty of parking space and it is a beautiful rural location. Juliet gave us with tips for some great local pubs and provided us with bread, milk yogurt and fruit for breakfast. The barn itself was immaculate and very stylish. The townhouse is located in an ideal part of Alton Town, five minutes from the train station. The light and airy bedroom has an attached balcony, not suitable for children. The bathroom is located across the hall. A continental style breakfast will be served, in your room or down stairs in the dining room.
We have a small dog, he lives downstairs, he is very friendly and will give you lots of attention if you ask for it.
Alton is a lively market town right in the heart of Jane Austen country. The surrounding landscape is picturesque and tranquil. Wander around the lovingly-preserved rooms at Jane Austen's House Museum in nearby Chawton. Visit the Allen Gallery – one of South East England’s most marvellous ceramics collections with regular exhibitions, a coffee shop and garden. Pop into the Curtis Museum to see some local relics (including the famous Saxon artefact, the Alton Buckle) and to get some insight into Alton's fascinating history.
  • Lovely host, lovely location. Room was perfect

  • I only stayed over for one night, but I had a lovely stay! Elaine is a kind and helpful host with a bubbly personality. We had a really nice chat and she made me feel at home right away. I felt very comfortable and welcome to do my own thing too (got my own key so I could pop in and out whenever I pleased). The room and balcony were very nice, with loads of storage space and a comfortable bed. Bath and shower were wonderful too (good waterpressure and the bath gets nice and hot). The house was squeaky clean and little Rocco (the dog) loves a good fuss and a cuddle! The location is brilliant too - really just 5 minutes away from the station + supermarket, and only a 10 min stroll into town. Alton is a lovely market town to explore and I'd definitely recommend staying with Elaine. Thanks again Elaine and Rocco!

In August 2006, Anna and Will introduced the UK's first Feather Down farm. Situated on the edge of the South Downs National Park, Manor Farm remains a tranquil oasis just an hour from London that many guests have returned to time and again for their Hampshire glamping farm holiday. Farming arable, cattle and sheep among a classic rolling landscape of copses and sunken lanes is even more of a pleasure now the family get to share it with so many happy people. You will relax in one of the extra luxurious Frills tents: either under a twinkling starscape in your own hot tub, or instead at a tent with its own en suite, depending on your booking selection. The tents are in the old farm orchard under trees or amongst hedgerows and are ideally spaced, each one offering privacy whilst also being well placed for groups. Some face into the orchard towards the lamb paddock, while others have views over Alton and the rolling countryside beyond. Each tent has its own campfire site for cooking hearty meals in the stew pot or toasting marshmallows, and there are plenty of places for foraging wood. A barbecue under the stars is not to be missed, for which the meat is often provided ' the marinated butterflied leg of lamb being a favourite. In September, the hedgerows are full of berries, guests having lots of fun foraging for food from the hedgerows & fields. Wandering off site, there are great local pubs within walking distance, including the Three Horseshoes 1 mile away in East Worldham who have always looked after our guests well. For those who love a dip, there's wild swimming at Frensham Ponds that is only 20 minutes away, or a fun paddle at West Wittering and Hayling Island on the coast, which you can reach within an hour. Please note: there is no electricity in this location

Our home sits on the edge of Alton town, in a small close. It is a pleasant 15 minute walk to Market Street. There are lots of lovely cafes and food stores. You will enjoy your Single Bedroom, just off the shared kitchen, with own bathroom (unless the Double Bedroom is also occupied by guests). You will be welcome to share our kitchen for your breakfast and light meals, if you so wish. The area has many walks and wonderful attractions to enjoy a short or long break with us.
The room is airy and bright, quiet and pleasant.
The market town of Alton offers a delightful mix of historic buildings and modern shops and arcades. It is well known for its regular Tuesday market day as well as other markets and fairs. The village of Chawton, famously the home of Jane Austen, is nearby and you can follow a circular walk from Chawton to Upper Farringdon, past places of interest that Jane Austen knew. The Watercress Line steam railway goes from Alton, trundling through pleasant country side, through the village of Ropley and on to Alresford. The Sun Inn in Bentworth is a favourite and beautiful pub, which can be reached in under an hour's walk from our home or a seven minute drive. There are plenty of other pubs in the town of Alton, with good food and drinks, to enjoy during your visit.

Bijou, comfortable single room garden cabin ( 1 superking bed or twins ) with kitchenette and adjoining ensuite shower and WC, set in the middle of an SSSI within the South Downs National Park and accessed by an unmade bumpy track. Please note this is not a village location though pubs are about a 5 minute drive ( walkable with good footwear and a map ! ) A car or bicycles are favourable although we have accommodated hikers overnight.
Re-built 15 years ago, warm and light, own entrance. Looks out onto the garden, step through the gate straight onto Shortheath Common, a gem within the south downs national park. Shower and WC ensuite. Kitchenette. Breakfast table. TV.One super king bed or two single beds. The bothy is small but well set out.
Shortheath common is an SSSI and has European SAC designation with rare habitat, plants and insects. It can be accessed directly from the Bothy and keen walkers can get onto the hangers way quite near to the Alton end.
  • We had a really lovely stay at the bothy, its a great set up with everything you need and lots of thoughtful touches. Simon was very welcoming and there was some delicious carrot cake waiting for us when we arrived. Lots of great walks close by and didn't take us long to drive over from London. Would definitely recommend for a country escape. Thanks for everything Simon! Don and Tabby

  • This is a lovely place to stay - truly away from it all - in a peaceful and tranquil environment. (I slept better than I do at home!). The cabin has everything you need - lovely beds/duvets, cooking facilities and a compact bathroom... Open the curtains in the morning, lie in your bed, and look out on a world of wildlife/nature... It’s a true adventure staying here - my daughter and I loved it.

    Anne2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a very good stay and we definitely recommend it! It is a very calm, clean, charming small house. Everything we need was there. Very nice area to walk. Simon was very kind and he suggested to pick us up by car from the closest train station.

    Charlotte2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Blossom Bothy for 12 days in October 2019. A good place to stay which is off the beaten track but still within reach of amenities and local conurbations. Very big comfortable bed. Bathroom bijou but clean with instant hot water. Kitchen facilities fine for a short stay, equivalent of what you would get in a camper van. We were welcomed with home made bread and jam and carrot cake, lovely. Lots of other goodies and staples provided. Very warm and cozy. TV and internet good. Takes some finding on a dark night but the instructions were good.

  • The Old Forge was perfect! It was spotless and seemed like new and Kim has thought of everything. We’ve stayed in many a smart hotel (for work) and this is comparable to a small suite with a kitchenette. There was milk, bread, cereal, tea, coffee etc, dressing gowns and toiletries too. We had a delicious brunch at Nosh cafe, a good Thai meal in nearby Alton and a good walk at the Devil’s punch bowl, about 30mins drive away. A thoroughly enjoyable stay.

We love the cottage for its unique charm and warmth, and we hope to extend that to you during your stay!
Bay Tree is a unique 17th Century cozy, and inviting English cottage. There are two double bedrooms upstairs, one bathroom, sitting room (with fire place), dining room and a fully equipped kitchen. There is a small secluded back garden with lawn, flowers and an outdoor eating area. We want you to feel completely at home, and the cottage really has a special charm. We look after Bay Tree with love and care and wish our guests to feel the same.
Chawton was home to the novelist Jane Austen. She spent the last 8 years of her life in a 17th century house which is now preserved as a museum in her memory. The village is located in the South Downs National Park (perfect for walkers and explorers), is ~16 miles from historic Winchester city, and offers a selection of fantastic pubs nearby. Other nearby local attractions include Gilbert White's House in the neighbouring village of Selbourne and the highly popular Watercress Steam Railway Line, which runs from Alton (a town 5 mins away) to to another quaint village, Alresford.
  • We loved our visit and would definitely recommend others to stay in this wonderful cottage. Thank you Caroline!

    Paige2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Caroline's home is lovely. Clean, cosy, perfectly located. Caroline made everything incredibly easy and was just a text away if we needed any info. There were lots of additional touches in the home when we arrived which made the stay all the more enjoyable. We will definitely be back!

    Emma2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Brilliant house .. brimming with nice suprises and Caroline the host is wonderful.

    Walter2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed at Caroline’s place with family and it was just perfect. A really cozy home from home hidden away in the quiet village of Chawton. Caroline has thought of everything, I cannot recommend her place highly enough.

  • We had such an amazing holiday in Caroline's beautiful cottage! The minute we walked in, we felt instantly at home, and that feeling continued throughout the holiday. Although we very much enjoyed visiting Chawton and the Jane Austen sights, we really looked forward to returning to the cottage at the end of each day, and feeling cosy by the fire and reading books in the window seats. The cottage has everything you need and much, much more! Caroline included lots of thoughtful touches from the yummy fizz, chocolates, marmalade and choice of teas to the beautifully scented shower gel, (the bath is rather marvellous!) to the shelf of books and games to borrow. Caroline was a fantastic host, friendly and with great recommendations. After reading other reviews, we had high expectations of this cottage, but it easily surpassed these, and we were rather sad to leave! We are already wondering when we might return! Thank you so much Caroline, you're cottage has such a lovely feel and we feel very lucky to have stayed in such a special place!

  • Great stay. Sparkling clean. Beautiful property and lovely host. Lots of added touches

    Shaun2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Caroline is a superb host. Attention to detail and hospitallity is amazing ! The cozy cottage is lovely and in a great location, warm, very quiet with a great local village pub 3 mins walk away. The wifi is really good for the area and is a great place to do a mix of working and chilling out. Had a great stay at this place and can't recommend it enough.

    Walter2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is everything you could want from a quaint English country staycation. Cosy, wooden beams, a log burner and a smashing new bathroom all done tastefully. The beds are very comfortable and plenty of towels and essentials provided. There are a choice of books on the shelf you are welcome to read and some books and leaflets about Jane Austen and local walks which she found really interesting and useful. The wifi is very good so don't worry that you will be in the middle of nowhere cut off as that's not the case. The location is just excellent as not only do you get parking outside the cottage, as the road is not a thoroughfare and is a dead end road, you have no traffic passing which is lovely. For the Jane Austen fans, it is literally 5min walk to Jane Austen House museum and a further 5mins to Chawton House & gardens. Along the way you pass a lovely pub The Greyfrier (great roast dinners!) and Cassandra's Cafe (great brekkie and cakes!) The food and service at both are brilliant and they had plenty of veggie choices for the vegetarians in our group. Essentially, if you don't want to drive anywhere for the weekend and just go for walks, go to the museum, treat yourself to eating at the pub etc then you can as there's so much in walking distance. We can't wait to return later in the year when all the flowers are in bloom. We have been told the bluebells later in the season are stunning. You really felt like you had gone back in time being in the village and in the cottage. Caroline is a brilliant host and communicated with us well and gave us lots of ideas and tips of where we could go. We took her suggestion whilst in the area to visit Winchester Cathedral which was only 30min drive away and absolutely stunning. Jane Austen is buried there too so you can visit her grave for those who wish to. We look forward to visiting again soon.

A characterful double bedroom with comfortable kings size bed within a period cottage located in Lower Farringdon. The Cottage is a five minute drive from Alton town and the station. Ideally located for visits to Jane Austen's House/Village of Chawton, Winchester and The Watercress Line. There are two great country pubs, both within walking distance. Although we are located in a small village, we are near a main road and the hum of traffic can be heard at peak times.
The Cottage is believed to be dated back to the 16th Century so has lots of character. The room is fitted with bedside draws, a desk and small wardrobe. Jane Austen's house and museum are 20 minutes walk away in the village of Chawton. There is space for one car on the drive at the rear of the property.
We are perfectly located for visits to Jane Austins House Museum in the neighboring Village of Chawton. Jane Austen's House Museum in Chawton is the house where Jane Austen lived and wrote. It is the most treasured Austen site in the world. It was in this country cottage that Jane's genius flourished and where she wrote, revised and had published all her major works, including the timeless Pride and Prejudice. We have two pubs in the Village, both in walking distance, we can highly recommend the Rose & Crown in Upper Farringdon for food!

  • Lyn was an incredible host - she and her husband were welcoming and helpful, had a great local knowledge, and even helped out when I’d forgotten a few things I needed (doh!). The house is adorable, well decorated and the room is very comfortable too - I had trouble getting out of bed.

    Jennifer2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • We had a good stay at Lyn’s place. We felt very welcome and the house was lovely and quaint. The bathroom and bedroom were a good size and the breakfast every morning was a welcome surprise. The proximity of lovely pubs was great

  • Great quiet place to stay for a few days, for exploring the area or like us, between moving houses. Lovely touches and we enjoyed our stay.

    Satu2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little place and Norma couldn't have been anymore welcoming. Would highly recommend.

    Philip2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Norma's place is a great find! It's a cute little bedsit + shower room, with a little terrace area and access to a lovely garden. It's tucked away and very quiet and peaceful, but only a few minutes walk into Alton town centre. Norma has filled the space with thoughtful touches - including a mini kitchen area and lots of treats to help with breakfast etc. The room is super clean and the bed and sofa really comfy! There's a huge TV and stacks of DVDs. The wifi isn't great but it works well in the garden so we were fine. Norma was a great host - checking in and making sure we were ok and had everything we needed, but also giving us space to relax and enjoy our stay.

    Sophie2019-09-19T00:00:00Z

Village itself is beautiful, very close to historic Jane Austen house and museum located in picturesque village that she lived in. Norma's place is located about an hour from beautiful seaside. Both host's were lovely and very friendly, the place had everything you need including continental breakfast (tea, coffee, sugar, milk ) We felt very welcomed and we recommend this place for quiet stay.

A beautiful cottage set in a picturesque, historic village yet with all the modern amenities you would want.
We hope you enjoy our warm and cosy, quintessentially English cottage. Although just off the main road, and so easily accessible, the cottage boasts a secluded feel immediately. Entering through the front conservatory, there's a small toilet and utility area with a fully usable washer/dryer. Then through to the kitchen and 3 further rooms - dining, living and conservatory. The dining room has a usable wood burner. Upstairs is a double bedroom, bathroom with separate bath and power shower, and 3 singles, all with wardrobe space. The property has central heating and double glazing throughout. In the living room there is a television and separate DVD player, and there is also free broadband. The property has some traffic noise during the day (being on a main road), which can be heard when windows & doors are open during the warm weather. But by late afternoon/evening this is minimal.
You are nestled in the beautiful village of Selborne, whose amenities include a pub serving delicious food, a coffee shop and a local convenience store. Gilbert White's house is also close by and worth a visit. This is classic Jane Austen country, with Jane's house located close by in Chawton. Chawton is another picturesque village with some lovely local amenities - be sure to check out Cassandra's Cup, a delicious tea room.
  • Great place, good location and a real bargain

    Rachel2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay in this cute cottage. It’s much bigger than it looks in the photos and is very comfortable. The kitchen has lots of plates and cups which is great. The cottage was also lovely and warm and had a good selection of games and dvds. It was very useful having the use of the travel cot and high chair. Sophie was a great host who answered all my questions quickly and also left some milk and biscuits for our arrival which was lovely and thoughtful. I would definitely stay again.

    Sadie2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • A very comfortable cottage with great facilities . Lots of useful touches to the home - security lights in the garden (very useful for Winter - especially going out with the dogs early morning) Hooks, good lighting, decent cupboard space. House was clean & host really helpful with a few queries. Parking fine as well. Would come again

    Hannah2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • A quaint country cottage that is accessed by a quaint lane within a quaint village in the beautiful Hampshire countryside. Visiting in the depths of winter was not a problem as the cottage had great heating. We can imagine ourselves lounging in the conservatory if we had been visiting in the summer months. The kitchen is well equipped and the lounge is a cosy room with windows on three sides, so always receiving any sunshine. You will not be disappointed with the four bedrooms, perfect for our family of 5 when most accommodation only suits a family of 4. This place is ideal for an escape to the country, with beautiful country walks nearby and the almost adjoining rec grounds with playground. We will be back.

  • Thank you for the lovely stay! Really lovely and cosy cottage with plenty of nice country walks around. We stayed there for 2 nights with a toddler and a baby. The house is suitable for small children. The cottage is very well located walking distance from the local pub and tea room, as well as starting point for nice country walks. The “zig-zag walk” on a bright sunny day is beautiful. Sophie also has a folder in the house with plenty of ideas of things to do in the area.

Light and bright loft studio over our triple garage in the heart of Jane Austen Country, easily accessible to Alton, Odiham, M3, and London just 1 hour by train. Separate double bedroom, bathroom and kitchen/living room. Walk to our fabulous local Turkish restaurant. 2.5 miles to Alton, Lasham Gliding 1 mile.
Tucked away down a private driveway in the heart of the Hampshire Countryside, although easily accessible for town and amenities. Please note that the garage is in use below the annexe flat.
We are in the heart of the Hampshire countryside with rolling hills, and farming all around us. Jane Austen Country. There are lots of tourist attractions locally, or within easy reach, but it is also a perfect location for business travellers wanting a more peaceful evening location for Farnborough, Basingstoke, Hook, Alton or Odiham.
  • This place is amazing! a perfect self contained apartment, set in private grounds so you have your own space surrounded by woodland and fields. Perfectly positioned if you are into cycling or walking as it's in the heart of the Hants countryside. I spent two weeks here, it was my home away from home, working from here during the day. All the amenities you need are here and ready for you and it's the best value you will find. Can't recommend the Woodmans Loft and Joanna enough.

A fabulous space in an oak-framed garden studio independent to our home with double sofa bed, large shower room and tea and coffee making facilities, microwave and mini fridge. Within walking distance of the Watercress Line and less than 10 minutes drive to Jane Austen's House. We are also well placed for The Grange Opera, which is about a 15 minute drive away.
A lovely, private, light filled, purpose-built oak framed studio adjacent to but not attached to the main house. The studio is spacious with a large en-suite shower room and essential kitchen items such as a toaster, microwave, mini fridge, kettle and filter coffee machine with fresh ground coffee provided. I provide breakfast items (cereals, bread, spreads etc) at no extra charge. The studio is fully insulated and heated with patio doors opening out onto the garden. It's a welcoming place to be whatever the season - cosy in the winter and flooded with light in the summer. Although the bed is a sofa bed, it's a good sized double with a hugely comfortable mattress, feather duvet and good quality bed linen. There is a large glass table overlooking the garden and private patio area - ideal for enjoying breakfast with beautiful rural views or for working at if need be.
The studio is situated under 10 minutes drive from Alton, which is a small market town. We are within walking distance of Medstead and Four Marks Station of the Watercress Line (steam train line -not mainline!) which has many events throughout the year (eg War on the Line, Thomas and Friends, Santa Express etc) and the shops of Four Marks Village. There is a good traditional, village pub approximately a mile away and many others that serve fantastic food, local wines and ales all within a 10 minute drive. We are also less than 10 minutes drive to: Jane Austen's House in Chawton; The Gilbert White Museum in Selborne; Alresford which is a traditional and pretty town with great pubs and restaurants and fabulous walks along the River Arle. Historic Winchester with all of its attractions is 20 minutes away and Stonehenge and Salisbury around an hour's drive. We are a good stop-off point for those walking the St Swithun's Way, well-placed for the South Downs Way for walking and cycling and we are within a 15 minute drive of The Grange Opera and around 10 minutes drive from Froyle Park, a popular wedding venue. For those interested in the now booming English Wine Industry, there is a friendly, award winning winery and vineyard in Wield - Hattingley Valley - who will happily show you around with prior notice and there is Jenkyns Place Vineyard in Bentley too. We have some great cycling routes from the doorstep and Chawton Woods is just up the road which offers local walks - perfect both for a muddy winter's stroll or a pleasant summer's one! From a work point of view, we have had many guests who have had short to medium term contracts in Basingstoke, which is between a 20 and 40 minute pleasant drive, depending on the time of day and where exactly in Basingstoke. We have also accommodated contractors from Lasham Airfield and the film site there. Lasham is around a 15 minute rural drive across country.
  • Outstanding value for money: your own peaceful and spacious garden apartment. We were visiting the area for a family celebration, arriving late in the evening and leaving early the following morning. We didn't actually get to meet our host but all communication with Lisa was clear, prompt and friendly and we were able to be entirely independent.

  • We had a great time at Lisa’s and can highly recommend it! Easy check in and such a cozy place with amazing breakfast - fresh bread, homemade jam etc. Warm shower, cozy bed (almost too cozy to get out in the morning) and a super quiet location, but still close enough to walk to the local pub!

    Jasmin2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation is excellent value for money, clean & cosy.

  • Lisa's beautifully presented studio was a wonderful place to stay, so peaceful and relaxed. Our communication was friendly and instructions were clear to follow which was important as I arrived tired, in the dark, and checked myself in. Everything was provided to a very high standard and thoughtful little touches at every step made my stay easy, straight forward and so very cosy. I really appreciated being totally independent and couldn't recommend more highly that you book here if you're looking to stay in the area.

West Cross House Studio is the perfect place to stay to get away from it all. It is in the middle of Upper Farringdon village and is within walking distance of two lovely pubs bother serving good food, the Rose and Crown and the Pheasant. Farringdon is a beautiful rural village situated in the South Downs National Park - the village is also on the Writers Walk. The Studio is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, and furry friends (pets).
The garden studio is a large self-contained space with a wood burning stove (as well as heaters) and a very good shower etc - there is no kitchen but I do provide tea and coffee making facilities and there is a small fridge. The bed is a sofa bed but it is an extremely comfortable one. There is a little patio outside with table and chairs. There is plenty of space to put a mattress on the floor if an extra bed is required.
Farringdon is beautiful village in the South Downs National Park, within walking distance of the villages of Chawton, where Jane Austin lived and also Selborne which was the home of the naturalist Gilbert White - I like to think that Jane may even have had tea at my house. There are many wonderful walks around Farringdon.
  • Its exactly as the description and pictures show. We stayed one night in August 2019 because we were going to a 60th birthday party nearby. Sonia volunteered to give us a lift there early evening which was amazingly kind. The milk in the fridge was a nice touch for our breakfast cuppa. Would recommend.

Sonia was very helpful and welcoming and gave us very clear directions on how to find them and let us book in early to drop our bags and get changed for the wedding, we can recommend to any one needing accommodation in this area.

  • This place is beautiful! Sonia had everything clean and ready for us. There was more than enough amenities and the local pub just 3 minutes walk down the road served absolutely lovely food! Sonia was easy to talk to and very welcoming. The whole experience was fabulous!

  • Sonia was an amazing host! She helped my first time traveling solo be a success! When the pub in the area wasn’t serving food because it was Sunday, she invited me in for an amazing meal! I loved my time! The village is quaint, the bed is so comfortable, and the countryside picturesque! I hope to go back.

    Faith2019-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • Situated in very quiet place in the village. Lovely area to have my dog as local walking areas. Great advice for eating locally. Very helpful and friendly. Available but not intrusive. Fully enjoyed my stay and would highly recommend.

    Jennifer2019-05-26T00:00:00Z
  • Charming & cozy cabin - we had a lovely stay! Very comfortable sofa bed, the fire place is fab and walking distance to two great pubs a nice plus point! We’ll be back for sure.

    Marina2019-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely area and great host. I enjoyed my stay here especially lighting the log burner. Peaceful and did the job fine, the bathroom and space are not exceptional, there is gym equipment present in the main living room and parts of the space are used for storage. But if you’re looking to get away from the world for a night, sleep on a sofa bed and light a fire then go for it! I would stay again.

Renovated in June 2019, the house is a real haven, ideally located in the heart of Chawton village and surrounding Hampshire. Farthings was built circa 1700 for the workers of the Squires big house, which is now the Jane Austen Library in the centre of Chawton. The writer's home, now a museum, is directly opposite the house and it's said that Austen family members stayed in Farthings when they ran out of room. They certainly smoked hams for Squire Knight's guests in the inglenook fireplace.
As our guest, you will have exclusive use of the house which enjoys two double bedrooms with an upstairs bathroom, the lounge with open fire and a brand-new kitchen with modern appliances. The garden (to the left as you come out of the house at the back) is a secret gem, offering plenty of space and seating area to relax and peak over the wall to the field of horses and nearby South Downs National Park.
Chawton is a special place, not only because of the role it played in Jane Austen's life but also as a great village in the heart of Hampshire. The neighbours are more than welcoming (including Marmite the village cat who, like him or not, will always provide a welcome if you spot him parading the street). Obviously Chawton attracts many visitors drawn to the Austen connection and you will not be disappointed. There is a genuine charm whether you are there to visit the Museum or Library or just relax in the gentille surroundings and nearby park and its many varied walks. The year-long agenda of events, talks and village activities (including monthly brocante) will more than satisfy those seeking activity on the doorstep, or a short visit followed by an afternoon relaxing in the garden.
  • This is a beautiful, cosy cottage in a great location for the Jane Austen House Museum and Chawton House, also the Watercress Line steam railway. There is a friendly pub just a few doors away that serves excellent food. Louise is a very thoughtful host. We really loved our stay!

Lovely double room with views. Friendly family and one friendly Labrador. Very rural. As we are only 5 minutes away from Lasham Airfield, the property is in Burkham, its ideal for contractors working on Lasham Airfield. I used to work there myself and have been hosting for 8 years.
  • Great hosts, beautiful surroundings, ideal for some peace and quiet.

The house is homely and rustic with seating in the garden to relax and enjoy nature. Parking is available on request. The house is within a short walking distance of the town centre, buses and train station. Jane Austen's Village, Chawton, is nearby with lovely villages and pubs in the surrounding areas. It is not far to Winchester, Guildford and the historic town of Petersfield. It is just over an hour by train to Waterloo Station in London.
The room comprises of a comfortable, an antique dresser, chest of drawers and open wardrobe. It has a tunnel leading to a skylight non opening window in the roof. It is a small room. There are three other rooms available for guests. The house downstairs is the original floor boards and the kitchen dining room is a large open space which guests are welcome to cook and eat in.
It is a short walk to the town where there are a variety of restaurants, cafes, supermarkets and specialist shops.
  • Friendly, clean, nice, great location. All you need for a short stay.

  • Excellent stay at Gills. Very homely, very and welcoming and does what it says on the tin! :o) x

    Gary2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Gill's garden and breakfast are worth a visit! Her home is very convenient for the town centre, but quiet and peaceful. The small room is as described, and was a bit stuffy in a heat wave, but that's why it is so inexpensive. Gill was away when I visited, but her friend arrived quickly when I called and gave me a good reception. I would go again!

  • This place was an ideal place to crash. The room was cosy, clean and tidy. Pleasant breakfast of coffee, bagels and orange juice.

    Don2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • It was great experience. Although Gill warned me that it is a small room, I still decided to stay and it was the best decision. The house is very well maintained in a quite and beautiful twon. She gave me a tour of the house, showed me where everything was and made me my first coffee as my on job training session 🙂. She shared history of Alton town with me and gave me many tips on local sight seeing. I enjoyed breakfast with the view to beautiful garden in the backyard. If you stay there, you must have a cup of coffee or tea in the garden, totally worth it. She was very caring and always responded to my messages within minutes. Best experience, would love to stay at her place again because I plan to come to Alton again. Gill, Thank you for your hospitality.

  • I had a lovely stay with Gill, she's a great host and even picked me up from Alton Station on the Friday of my stay. Although I didn't see much of Gill and my other house guests during my very busy weekend stay, everything was as advertised, the room was cosy and comfortable, and I had a lovely time. Would definitely come back again.

This bedroom is on the first floor of our home with it's own private bathroom with bath/shower, toilet and sink across the landing. There is plenty of space to hang your clothes, a TV and provision to make tea and coffee.  We also have two king sized bedrooms listed as 'Pleasant king/ensuite in Four Marks' and 'Great king/ensuite in Four Marks' if you require any additional rooms for your booking.
Now the last of the children have left our family home, my husband Roland & I thought it would be fun to try Airbnb. Having experienced some great hosts ourselves we endeavour to ensure we give the same experience to our guests.
Petersfield and Alresford are approx.
  • Fiona's place was superb, very clean, comfortable, quiet, convenient and ample parking. Communication was spot on. Would definitely recommend.

  • You can expect a warm welcome in a most comfortable home in a delightful county of Southern England. The home, though located in a rural village, is within easy driving distance of historic Winchester, the beautiful South Downs and, if you feel so inclined, the South Coast. I doubt very much you will be disappointed in your choice.

    Gerry2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay here, very quiet at night for a good night's sleep and the kitchen and garden are beautiful to sit in - we brought our own breakfast instead of going out somewhere and I'm glad we did as it is a beautiful house. Fiona and Roland were very welcoming and helped us plan our day out in the area.

New for 2020. The Horse Hut is nestled in the corner of ‘horse feild’ where the farms shire horses once roamed. Look out over Hattingley valley across to the vineyards and enjoy the beautiful countryside. Take a bath on the veranda or watch the sun set from inside next to the log burner. The horse hut was originally on a lorry and was used at polo and shire horse shows now converted to luxury accommodation maintaining its horsey heritage.
  • We were met on arrival by Ralph who showed us round, The Horse hut is amazing, everything you need is there, it was really quiet and peaceful you can hear the birds singing and see the stars at night. The outside bath is a lovely touch still managed to use it in March. Four Marks is near by for essentials Grocers, butchers, bakers and tesco. The Yew Tree is a lovely old pub not far away had a couple of excellent meals there, plus wine tour and tasting at Hattingley just up the road from the pub. Lots of towns to visit all just a short drive away. We visited Winchester and walked to the viaduct, Marwell Zoo, Aldershot for banger racing and enjoyed the sunsets from the bath. Would love to return some time, can't recommend highly enough.

    Deji2019-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Fiona and Roland's place is in a quiet residential area. It is in close proximity of local amenities and is not too far from good road links. Our hosts provided accurate directions and communication was prompt. We parked our vehicle in the driveway within a few seconds walk from the house. We received a warm and hearty welcome from Roland. The house is beautiful, clean and even better than we expected. The bedroom is clean and tidy. The king bed is very comfortable. Bedding is of a good quality. The mattress is of a medium firmness. A very good night's sleep was had by both. There is plenty of space to store suitcases and hang clothing. Beverages are provided in the bedroom with some sweet treats. We had good TV and broadband coverage. The ensuite is spacious and spotless. We were provided with soft, fluffy towels. The shower is powerful. Guests can access the beautiful garden and there is a sense of calmness around the home. One can interact as little or as much with the hosts. Thank you Fiona and Roland for sharing your beautiful home with us at such short notice. You are superb and we enjoyed staying with you. We wish you all the best in all that you do. Thank you for looking after us.

Beech near Alton. Delightful one bedroom annex with shower room, kitchen and lounge-diner living accommodation. Furnished to high standard. Set in 1 acre of shared gardens. Completely separate to the main house. Ideal for couples or a business person looking for a home away from home. Easy access to Basingstoke and Winchester by road.
We provide you with towels & guest toiletries ie body wash & shampoo. The kitchen is equipped with Crockery, cutlery & a selection of dishes and baking trays.
Two miles from the market town of Alton & just three miles from Jane Austins House in the village of Chawton. Great country walks on the doorstep. We class our local pub as the Sun Inn Bentworth. Great food and a friendly welcome from the land-lady Daisy and her team! We are lucky to have two great coffee shops nearby: Nosh and Bottega dei Sapori. Both serve amazing coffee & food. We have supplied our guests with a folder full of tips and local recommendations of places to visit.
  • The Annex is in a beautiful location, is a nice space to inhabit, and has everything required for a self-catered stay. Carol and Andy are helpful and friendly. I hope to return in better weather and walk in the nearby woods.

  • Fantastic few days stay at Carol's Airbnb, thank you! Carol and Andy are wonderful hosts; friendly, caring and welcoming. They get the right balance between offering space and being fantastic company. They both clearly have a heart for hosting. A beautiful and immaculately clean accommodation, with everything you need for a peaceful and restful break away. Parking just outside the annex and easy, flat access. All on ground level, which was perfect. The freshly baked cookies were a lovely touch, as was looking out across the beautiful garden each day, to see Burt the (ornamental) Bear. Looking forward to returning to this Airbnb and highly recommend. Thank you.

  • This is up there as one of the best Airbnb experiences. Lovely location, quiet, beautiful countryside all around and close to Alton to nip in by car. The place itself was spotless with all the facilities you could wish for. Large comfortable bed and a great shower. Wifi signal was strong and didn't let me down for the week I was there. All in all a great place to stay. Will come back if ever in the area.

  • Carol and Andy’s annex is a terrific place to stay. The location is great, at the end of a long driveway and set in an acre of garden. Being in Beech it is beautiful and peaceful. It is close to major towns and cities; Alton, Farnham and Winchester to name a few. The accommodation is ideal and has everything you will need. It is a good size each room is well thought out and is comfortable for all residents that may stay. Everything was extremely well presented, clean and tidy. I can’t wait to go back and stay again.
