I rent the Captain's quarters at the start of a 13 week contract assignment and liked it so much I asked Bill if I could stay for the full assignment. Bill had to do a little arraigning to make it happen but he was able to do so. If I get extensions I would love to stay longer. When I get a chance it is away a pleasure to talk to both Barbara and Bill. I high recommend this locations to my fellow travelers.

The accommodation were perfect for my needs. Very comfortable space. Bill listen to what I was looking for and worked with me to make it happen. It was always a pleasure to talk to Bill and Barbara when I saw them. Just wished I had a little more time to get to know them better. If I'm every back to the area I will get in touch with them first.

Bill and Barbara were great hosts during my stay in the Captains Quarters. Accommodations were exactly as posted on airbnb.com It was quiet, comfy and cozy. The bed was comfortable, the space was clean and theme oriented. The bathroom was clean and shower pressure was great! Laundry was accessible upon request and very clean. I felt secure and comfortable in my little haven away from home. Wifi was great and cable was an abundance of channels. Walking distance to downtown Eaton Rapids, and very easy to find. Barbara and Bill were very approachable and available in person and by phone. They always asked if there was anything I needed during my stay and made sure that the snacks were always stocked. Bill even cleaned off my car and made sure the drive way was clear in the morning before I left for rotation. They went above and beyond as hosts. Even let me get a few snuggles in with the little pups. Barbara and Bill are fantastic hosts and I will use them again if I need to stay near the Lansing area. I will also share my stay with other students in my program whom are doing rotations in the Lansing/Jackson area.

Bill & Barbara were there to greet me & welcome me to the room. During my visit they were accommodating & responsive. I would be happy to return to their Captain's Quarters.

I chose Bill and Barbara's place because it promised fast internet, and I wasn't disappointed. It was the perfect place to get some work done. It was also clean, well provided, nicely furnished and my hosts were kind, forthcoming and helpful, especially after my collision with a deer. A perfect place to stay, but watch out for animals on the M50.

This was the second time we've stayed Bill & Barbara's apartment, the experience was just as excellent as before. The location is terrific, 20 minutes from Lansing, just off the main street of a quiet town, great place for walking, just a block or two from a nice riverfront park. Bill was prompt and clear in communicating about our stay after we made the reservation and in the days leading up to our stay. I made a booking mistake in reserving our room - Bill was more than gracious in working it out once we arrived, even though it was entirely my fault!

Overall very good experience. Place as described. Quiet, clean and comfortable. Communication with host was very pleasant and timely.

Bill and Barbara were great hosts, and the room was even better than we anticipated. Eaton Rapids was a great little town to wander in during our time at the house...only a block from main street (food/some shopping/etc). The area was spectacularly quiet and peaceful, and the accommodations were comfortable and welcoming. It's an easy drive into Lansing or Jackson from Easton Rapids. We would definitely stay here again if we are back in the area in the future!

From the moment I arrived, Doug welcomed me into his gorgeous, light-filled home with grace and warmth. He is a gentle, intelligent man who is easy to talk with. I thoroughly enjoyed our conversations each evening. (Tip: If Doug offers to make you dinner, do yourself a favor and accept! He is a fantastic cook!) Doug seems quite comfortable sharing his home. I felt completely relaxed and at ease during my entire stay! On top of the fact that Doug is a phenomenal host, his home is absolutely gorgeous. It's comfortably elegant, full of art and music. The lower level is impeccably clean and cozy giving you all the privacy and space you'll need. The home is surrounded by trees and gardens. Each morning I woke to the sound of birds singing and the breeze gently blowing through the tress. One morning I even I saw a doe and her fawn on the far riverbank drinking water! There are several decks and a patio to sit outside and enjoy the (URL HIDDEN) so beautiful that I did not want to leave! If could give 10 stars, I would! I hope I can stay again someday... I highly recommend this "Retreat on the Grand River" for any type of stay in the Lansing area!

Just left the beautiful place around Lansing. The house was a really tranquil place to stay. To enjoy the deer and turtles along the Grand River from a splendid garden. The house itself leaving more then enough private space to stay, with a really comfortable bed. Together with the mosquito screens it gave the opportunity for a good rest. But the stay would not have been so enjoyable if Doug was not there with his carrying hospitality. He provided the wine, chocolate mouse to enjoy on his private patio at the riverside. But also allowed private time to the guests! Who could ask for more then staying in his beautiful, clean house and enjoying his cooking and sympathy! If I ever have the chance I will return to this little paradise in the Lansing Area. Thanks Doug for letting me be your guest!

We stayed for the second time and it felt like coming home. This time in a winterlandscape, as beautiful as in summertime. Doug made us again feel like home with his treats like wine and snacks, but also the lovely invites for diner. But he really understands how to provide your privacy also. He gives you as much freedom as you like. And the lower floor of his home is perfect for a longer stay. It really feels like a home, not small at all. Doug, see you next time and thanks!

We agree completely with the first reviewer. Doug is a wonderful host and an engaging person. The house is beautiful, clean, and full of interesting things. The bedroom and bathroom are comfortable and well-appointed. The yard is gorgeous with its gardens and view of the river. Doug starts with a great place and then goes above and beyond with his hospitality.

Doug is an amazing host. He gave me a tour of his place when I arrived. He offered snacks and beverages throughout my stay. We had many wonderful conversations. It was like being on an extended vacation. I highly recommend staying with Doug.

Doug's house is amazing. Downstairs is really like its own apartment. You have your own bedroom with internal bathroom. There is even a kitchen. If you were staying for a long period of time, it would be really easy to cook there and avoid eating every meal out. Doug is also very inviting. He is friendly and helpful in navigating around East Lansing. Overall, a great place to stay!

Doug is an outstanding host. He was very prompt in his email communication with us and was flexible about check in check out times. He was home to greet us and show us around upon our arrival. Doug has a large, lovely home located in an upscale neighborhood. Doug went above and beyond with regard to amenities. He provided a full bottle of juice, milk and a full bag of coffee. He was so thoughtful – he even put a planetarium in the room for my husband’s use as an amateur astronomer. The apartment is large and lovely. The kitchen is beautifully equipped with all appliance and dishes you could hope for. The bedroom is huge with a king size bed and full bath (with extra supplies such as toothbrush, Band-Aids and the like). Doug has a large garage and permitted us to park in of the stalls. Doug;s home is in a peaceful location situated right on the Grand River. Doug was kind enough to include us in his dinner plans on Friday and prepared a delicious home cooked meal with home baked bread. He was a gracious conversationalist and a generous host. Doug made us feel more like old friends than an AirBnB lodger. The visit exceeded our expectations in every way and we look forward to a return visit.

Staying at Doug's retreat on the Grand River was without any doubt my best Airbnb experience so far. Doug is a courteous host and a charming entertainer, and he welcomed us with all comforts and amazing dinners. While we usually keep to ourselves during our trips, it was a pleasure to share the table with Doug. He is a refined cook and his taste and sensitivity reflect in all the house. The guest apartments are just as lovely as they appear in the photographs, and the bedroom receives beautiful afternoon light from a glass door that opens on the back yard and on the river. We felt at home since the moment we arrived, and we cannot thank Doug enough for such a perfect weekend.

Erin's place is great. She's very nice and accommodating as well as sociable. The pictures of the room are incorrect. The attic room does tend to be cold in the winter and I expect very warm in the summer (not sure about air conditioning). The staircase up is very steep and would not be good for someone with mobility issues. The room is large and clean.

Really great host! Super clean house and definitely felt like a wonderful family lives here. I would recommend this place to anyone traveling near Lansing, MI.

Shawn was a wonderful host! He was extremely quick to respond to any questions we had and helpful in every way. The house was lovely and very big - perfect for a group of friends and big family! We are grateful to have been able to stay at the River Retreat and hope to come back!

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this fantastic river retreat! It is absolutely even more gorgeous in person! The property is secluded and right on the beautiful river, surrounded by nature. The home itself is beautiful and incredibly well taken care of. It's even bigger than pictures lead you to believe. There was so much room for our group of 8 to feel totally comfortable. The bedrooms were so nice and the beds incredibly comfortable! The kitchen was fantastic and had all the necessary utensils for making dinners for our large group. Sean was the best host! He was very concerned with making sure we had anything and everything we could possibly need for our stay and even made a special trip out to get a stock pot for the kitchen and life preservers in case we went out on the water. He even had a bottle of wine and chocolates waiting when we arrived. This was all around such a wonderful place to stay and we hope to get back one day!

We had a fantastic time at Shawn's home. It was perfect for our group of 13 with lots of space and great amenities. We especially loved the view with several different types of animals spotted from deer to swans to a turtle in the driveway. We will definitely keep this house in mind for future.

Shawn made sure we had all the info we needed to find the home, easy-to-follow security instructions, and details about the features of the home. He provided all we needed promptly, clearly and cheerfully. The place was absolutely wonderful -- plenty of space, beautifully appointed and very comfortable. The view of the river and wildlife was wonderful -- swans (and their little cygnets), a variety of ducks. and something that may have been a beaver or a muskrat. We had fun trying to guess what it could be, but it never stepped out of its watery home! Our only regret was that we were able to stay only one night before we had to get back on the road. I would consider this home perfect for a weekend getaway: isolated, quiet, comfy, and plenty of beautiful scenery.

Our host was very accommodating and helpful. This place was great and very inviting, warm and cozy. Wish we would have been there longer to avail ourselves of the outdoor fire pit and river amenities. Loved seeing all the wildlife!

Everything was as it was advertised at this beautiful large house. Our questions were all answered promptly, the house was easy to access. It was the PERFECT place for our family to stay for a wedding weekend.

Ideal spot for visiting students, business travelers, residents at Lansing hospitals, etc. The space is very private and cozy, with a nice bedroom, bathroom, a nearly full kitchen with plenty of appliances and a living room with comfy couches, large TV and a gas fireplace. Staying here for a work was very pleasant, I could make breakfast and dinner and have a cup of tea by the fireplace in the evenings. Wendy was a lovely and helpful hostess, who includes lots of thoughtful touches for her guests.

Great place, great price. Very clean and quiet, around a nice neighborhood. My girlfriend and I enjoyed our stay.

This 1 bedroom apt was fully furnished with plates, cups, silverware, etc. perfect for cooking in and saving $$ from going out. The surrounding neighborhood was safe and quiet and near the river walk. Internet was reliable and fast for my business reports.
