Places to stay in Burra

Places to stay in Burra
One of Burras original stone cottages, recently renovated with an open plan living, this residence is new and clean with a very comfortable and cosy homly feel you wont want to leave. We renovated the place to sell and love it that much we decided to keep it. Only a 5 minute walk away from the main street this place is in a great location. Locally owned by a young couple born and bred in Burra who literally live a stone throw away from the place shall you need anything during your stay.
Our warm cosy 3 bedroom cottage is only a 5 minute walk from the local hotels and coffee shops or enjoy the pergola out the back if you wish to stay home and relax.
The neighbourhood is a freindly place and your likely to bump into the neighbours shall you be out and about. They'll always be willing to say hello.
  • Justin and Chloe have done such a gorgeous job at making this space super stylish but blend into the beautiful Burra charm as well. The traditional cottage blew us away on arrival and the locals were all so welcoming! There are so many brilliant places to eat out and Burra is very welcoming for your four legged friends as well. We found ourselves relaxing in no time at all and can’t wait to come back again. Well done guys - we were pleasantly surprised and would highly recommend you to anyone we know. Also, that king sized bed is heaven! Thanks again for having us.

  • Justin and Chloe were very accommodating with our needs and quick to respond to any questions. The cottage was very comfortable and clean, located in a quiet spot a short walk to the Main Street. The fire place was a nice treat and we appreciated a place that provided for the family dogs. Was a great place to use for a catch up with old friends!

  • The place is a described. Quiet, comfy and private with a large fenced yard for pets that don't jump or climb. Good heating, including a heat pump and a very efficient free standing wood heater. Comfy bed. Conjoined on one side, but you'd never know.

    Jennifer2019-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • Always willing to go over and above. I deal with so many accommodation providers and Stephens place has that extra touch! Thank you

    Belinda2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this gorgeous little cottage with it's touches of old-fashioned elegance! We appreciated the extra thought put in to making sure the cottage was warm and cozy for our arrival, and the extra firewood to enjoy cozy nights by the fire! The whole cottage was sparking clean and also in a good location - a quick walk or drive to the playground for our little boy, and the main street which was full of lovely cafes for our meals. Very comfortable beds and lounges made for the perfect weekend away! Thank you!

Because of the heritage building style miners cottage, wheel chair access is unfortunately not possible, walking frames are ok. The doorways are narrow and low and there are not many steps. The shower access is flat ... Reverse cycle air-con and a slow combustion wood fire. Its cosy and warm in winter..There are 3 Doubles and one single. Linen & towels, hairdryer and Robes. Continental Breakfast, Washing Machine & iron. Huge beautiful Garden..BBQ Coffee plunger.
The cottage is a piece of history with mod cons. Continental breakfast provided. Air conditioned. The garden is huge and great for families, or romantic stays. Washing machine to suit working long term guests. Log fire, Milkshake maker, Hair dryer, Robes. there are two toilets. There is a TV. Three couples can comfortably stay without feeling like you are sleeping on top of each other.
The cottage is on the famous Heysen Trail. Burra is a historic mining town and more recently a town where movies are made. Russell crows latest movie, The Water Diviner was partially filmed here and Russell was in town with the crew for two weeks. Burra is a an old Copper Mining town rich in Cornish and Welsh German Chillian and Chinese history, and now is an agriculture and tourism based area. Photographers love the area. There are lots of areas around Burra to explore and day trips to the River or Clare wineries are popular. Burra has great restaurants and cafes.

Our hosts were very friendly and had stocked the place with all sorts of goodies. The fire was lit when we arrived and we could settle in for a very comfortable night. Highly recommended1

Griffiths Cottage is a quaint cottage situated on our property. There are 2 bedrooms, one double and a small room with 2 single beds.
The area around the cottage is pretty quiet and has some lovely walks nearby. The walk into the town centre takes about half an hour on a bike track/walking trail following the creek. There are 2 hotels serving meals within a few minutes walk of the cottage and for the very adventurous and/or fit there is a walk up the mine hill.

  • Peter and Julie’s sunset cabin was the perfect escape for my husband and I. The location is second to none on top of the hill and the cabin is clean, spacious whilst cosy and naturally lit with stunning views. It has everything you need for a stay. E bed is comfy and fitted with an electric blanket which was welcomed at night when the temperature dropped. We didn’t use the fire but imagine it would be great in winter. Peter went above and beyond to do a swift repair on one of the bikes so we could ride them into town. This was a great addition to the stay.

There are many exciting things to see and do in the Clare Valley. Apart from some of the finest wineries in Australia, you can cycle on the Riesling Trail, or visit Martindale Hall. This magnificent building is a Georgian styled sandstone mansion built in 1879, near Mintaro, South Australia which appeared in the film 'Picnic at Hanging Rock'. Bungaree Station is also worth a visit. A beautiful rural property with a rich history; established by George Hawker and his brothers in 1841, Bungaree became the headquarters of an extensive sheep station with 100 thousand merino sheep by the 1880s. It became a small village complete with sandstone Homestead, Woolshed, Shearers' Quarters, Station Store, Manager's House, District Council Chambers, staff cottages and a Church. A trip to the township of Blyth (only a short distance from Clare) you'll find artist Ian Roberts OAM. Ian is recognised as one of Australia's premier bird painters, and you can view his many magnificent works at his own working studio, Medika Gallery in Blyth.
  • Steve and Jude were charming, warm, hospitable and generous hosts, welcoming us into their lovely home with offerings of wine from the region, interesting stories about the area, helpful tips and very comfortable, cosy and spotlessly clean guest quarters. It was a delight staying with them.

  • Steve and Jood are outstanding hosts. They shared their local knowledge, wine and company with us over a two night stay. The bed was super comfortable and having our own bathroom was great. The house is close to Clare township and wineries.

The house is very clean, bed is comfy and there are numerous places in the garden to sit with a glass of wine and relax. They offer a truly amazing experience. Steve and Judy have a vast knowledge of the area and offer lots of suggestions of places to visit and things to do. We would highly recommend a stay at Steve's place next time you visit Clare.

  • We had the PERFECT stay with Steve & Jood. They are certainly well deserved of their Superhost status. All communication with Steve was prompt, correct and friendly. Steve & Jood greeted us warmly on arrival and showed us around the house explaining all we needed to know. We enjoyed being able to make our own tea/coffee and also have some of Jood's homemade baking. The offer of dinner was a culinary delight. First was the delicious platter enjoyed with accompanying wine and sunset view over the vineyard. Jood's slow cooked lamb and roast vegetables was a taste sensation. Yummo. Of course, also offered with delicious Clare Valley wines. Breakfasts, served in the dining room was fresh, homemade and a great way to start the day before exploring the Clare Valley. Steve's knowledge of wines and choice of wineries to visit was very much appreciated. His advice to visit Bungaree Station was also a highlight of our time in the Valley. Thank you Steve & Jood, your friendly hospitality and your enthusiasm for the Clare Valley community made our stay one to remember.

Once the local flour mill built in 1874 Beautifully restored into a magnificent B & B suitable for couples, families or larger groups.
Immerse yourself in the history of this once thriving mining town at the same time enjoying modern comforts. Situated on 4 acres With everything you could want from Playstation pool table, table tennis, 4 flat screen tv's, an expresso coffee machine ad outdoor alfresco area......fantastic for couples up to large family's and groups.
If you are interested in the South Australia’s history you can purchase a key from the visitor centre and do a self drive tour. Allow at least one full day but it’s well worth doing. The Clare valley wineries are only half an hour drive or the Barossa valley is just over an hour drive. There are also plenty of great local cafes and country pubs both in Burra and around the Clare valley.
  • A wonderful and unique experience staying in Butterworth mill, you and your family will love all that this idyllic location has to offer. Would highly recommend!

    Hamish2019-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • An overall beautiful space. We were warm by the fire and the many heaters/ blankets all weekend. Great welcome tour from Carolyn at the mill, she ran through everything we needed to know and made us very comfortable. The mill is rustic, clean and very well equipped with many thoughtful touches! Endless entertainment with the pool table and dart board, well stocked fire wood that lasted us our three nights. Would love to stay again Thankyou Carolyn!

    Olivia2019-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing space for big groups

    Andrew2019-06-10T00:00:00Z
  • Rustic and full of character this is a really cool and very comfortable place. Great base to explore the Clare Valley. It’s like a 3 level open loft so you will hear everybody but for us as a family it was great. Burra is a surprisingly interesting place with plenty to see and good pubs/cafes etc. can highly recommend it!

    Wolfgang2019-04-26T00:00:00Z
  • The mill is absolutely beautiful and has been lovingly restored. Really well equipped and a great base for exploring the Clare valley and surrounding areas. Carolyn was a welcoming and very helpful host. Highly recommended!

  • A lovely place to go spend New Years with some close friends, making fantastic memories.

    Dillon2019-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was an interesting experience. There are not many options to stay in accommodation that has so much history. The conversion has been done in keeping with the function of the original building. It really is beautiful. The beds were exceptional- very comfortable as was the linen. The outdoor patio area with the tables and chairs was well used. Great spot to sit and watch the children. It’s one of the few places to accommodate a large number of guests. I left some food items on departure and Carolyn very kindly brought them to Adelaide for which I was very grateful. If anyone is interested in the history of the area then this accommodation is a must!

    Liz2018-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Wow, this place is just as beautiful as we imagined. We came as a large group with children and never felt we were in each others pockets. The house has so much charm, well presented, loads of activities to do, beds were really comfortable, great location. We would definitely stay again.

    Tom2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • One of the best accommodation we’ve stayed. The place is set up with such attention to detail. The bath robes are super comfortable (we actually went online to see if we can get one for ourselves), the kettle was clean and already filled with water when we arrived, the kitchen is well equipped (one of the best we’ve seen) and I like the labels on the light switches. We had a wonderful time in Clare. Look forward to our next visit!

    Sunil & Yukuan2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay at Jack’s place. It was perfectly located in the heart of Clare and much thought has obviously been given to making Jack’s place enjoyable and relaxing. It was great to have a child friendly house that our toddler enjoyed and we absolutely loved the comfy bed and the large window in the lounge room that allowed the sun to shine through and warm the house on cold Clare mornings. Sue was a wonderful host and thought of everything that we would need travelling with a toddler. My daughter didn’t want to leave and banged on the front door when we closed it behind us. Thank you Sue for everything.

Not your ordinary BnB, read the whole listing to fully appreciate what’s in store! Our beautiful 1850's cottage has been lovingly restored and renovated, now offering modern facilities while retaining its old charm and warmth. A short distance from the town of Watervale, its quiet seclusion offers you a private experience to share with family and friends, yet close enough to local townships for easy access to shops, hotels, bakeries, art galleries, antique stores and of course, famous wineries.
If your preferred dates seem blocked on our calendar, please message us as we may be able to assist. Breakfast provisions to cook your own breakfast are provided for the first morning. You have access to the full pantry of cereals etc after that. This is our home which we are making available for your stay. This means you’ll notice a comfort, warmth and energy that is often missing from a formal BnB that is only used by guests. The cottage offers two full-size bedrooms within its solid stone walls (one queen bed, one double bed), plus a separate bedroom housed alongside the main building in a 1960's schoolroom sourced from the nearby Blyth Primary School (one double, one single bed). The cottage has a bathroom containing a bath, shower and toilet and a second toilet located in the laundry. The laundry has a washer and dryer. The lounge has a TV and a combustion wood heater for the cold winter nights. Wood is provided free of charge. The front bedroom, the dining room and the school room have air conditioning, the front and back bedrooms also have ceiling fans. Portable heaters and fans are also available if required. The main bedroom queen bed mattress is quite firm, the second bedroom double bed mattress and all other beds are softer. In summer, we swap the dining and lounge rooms over so you can use the air conditioner for cooling. The combustion heater is therefore not available during the months of December through March. Prices listed are for 4 people accessing the two main bedrooms. Extra guests are at $50 each per night. If there are 3 or 4 guests and access to the "Schoolroom" 3rd bedroom is required (ie 3 or 4 people spread over more than 2 beds/bedrooms) there will be a $50 extra one-off charge regardless of the number of nights. Weekly and monthly discounts are automated by the booking system, please enquire about discounts for 4 to 6 nights.
The famous Clare Valley, with all it has to offer, is literally at your doorstep. The internet is your best gateway to finding what's on offer. Say hello to Tim and Cass at Tim McNeil Wines right next door, within walking distance, open weekends. Many more wineries are all within a short drive or bike ride away. Check out the Riesling Trail if you've brought your bikes with you, or hire one from Cogwebs bike hire in Auburn. The Watervale Hotel does superb food and the Watervale General Store is quirky and tasty!
  • Lovely, peaceful house, with wonderful garden to relax in. Responses to questions was fast and Informative, and on arrival we had the nice surprise of a gourmet breakfast. Had a great time and will certainly come back

  • Communication was very quick and helpful with detailed instructions on how to get into the property and suggestions/recommendations on where to go and where to eat. The property is ideally situated to explore the Clare Valley and is in a very quiet location in the country. Dean and Duc have furnished the cottage very thoughtfully including leafy displays in vases, playing cards, balls for our small dog, games and a good selection of DVDs. The provisions they left for breakfast were extremely generous and lasted us at least two days. There was a wonderful selection in the fridge and pantry and a full fruit bowl was an additional treat which was really appreciated. The garden was lovely to sit in, with a lit covered area ideal for eating out. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would very much recommend staying here.

    Sue2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Dean & Duc’s place is amazing! It’s clean, organised, charming and had everything you possibly need for a holiday. They respond straight away and are very accommodating. We had an awesome time at their place and won’t hesitate to go back to D2 at Watervale next time we’re in the region.😊

Self-contained unit, with all necessary cooking pots and pans. Lovely coffee & tea selection. One tip, prepare for snacks to enjoy some movie there. This home is truly beautiful with many 'homely' comforts. It is set in a quiet street with everything you need for a weekend away. Walking distance to Clare's town centre, and various restaurants, including: Mr Mick's Cellar Door and Tapas Restaurant, 'Indi of Clare', 'Seed' and rustic Italian 'Umbria' . Relax and unwind during any season in our Reading Nook, lounge or outside with a BBQ whilst chatting with friends. You will simply love the experience.
All spaces are available to use.
Clare's beautiful 'Reisling Trail' is just at the end of the street. This is the old railway line and is a popular walking and riding trail for those wishing to get some exercise, soak up the countryside or take a different route to wineries and restaurants. Mr Mick's Cellar Door and Tapa's Restaurant is also only a 5 minute walk away. Worth a visit to this beautiful old building and scrumptious menu and wine from Tim Adams.

  • Beautifully situated in the vines, this house has a wonderful laid back vibe with all the stylish touches and amenities you need when having a trip in the Clare Valley. The house has a great open plan kitchen, dining and lounge area that was wonderful for early morning planning and late night drinks. I stayed here with two other friends and the bedrooms are generously sized and very comfortable. House was clean with good amenities and the kitchen has everything you could need. A great place to base yourself when travelling with others and exploring the Clare Valley.

  • Such a lovely, tranquil place to stay. The home was lovely and spotlessly clean. There were many extra touches to. I loved the coffee machine and enjoyed my morning coffee and there were fresh chook eggs for breakfast. We even met the chook! The beds were incredibly comfortable and I had brought my own pillow with me as I'm fussy however I needn't have bothered as the pillows were perfect! I will definitely recommend to friends and family. Thank you.

  • This is the most charming cottage you could ever stay in, it’s full of character, warmth & style. A perfect blend of a traditional cottage feel with contemporary decor. Everything was perfect, we loved our trip. This place honestly has everything you’ll need! Quiet & secluded too, set further back off the road. Great big area out the back for BBQs, wine drinking, sunset gazing, family fun. The best part...a gorgeous view of the neighbouring vineyard - rows & rows of beautiful vines! Couldn’t stop staring... The house is in a great location, easy to get around and see everything you want to see in the Clare region.

  • What a treat!! Far exceeded expectations. Great value in a beautiful town right near Clare valley. Can highly recommend going to some nearby cellar doors and bringing back some wine to drink by the fire place.

  • Thanks for making our stay in Burra extra special Your house was so amazing, a gem, the kids loved exploring all the little hidden secrets.

    Warren2019-04-18T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay here. It was an old miner's cottage with a lot of (comfortable) period furniture and a good outdoor area - lots of character. The kitchen was well appointed, enabling us to cook decent meals rather than eating out. Would stay here again.

    Mark2019-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely home, bigger than expected with a real rustic cottage feel to it. There was a lot to discover about this place, and there was a sizeable sealed off backyard where our dog was able to stay while we were out in Clare. Board games and some old movies also available to use for guests, which was a nice touch.

    Sabrina2019-01-02T00:00:00Z

This 1850's miner's cottage is a part of Australia's history - it was owned by one family from 1854 til 1980
Your cottage is in a quiet part of town

  • The cottage was just perfect with everything you could possibly want as well as well located with a couple of great local pubs and restaurants in the area when you don't feel like cooking. Clean, comfortable and surprisingly quite spacious - we'll definitely be booking it again! Thanks go to our hosts from Julie & Johann.

  • Such a lovely place to stay, with lots of character. Good location and loved the breakfast ingredients, such a lovely touch.

    Shannon2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Reggie and Trevor have thought of everything in preparing this space as a fantastic launching spot to explore he local area. The fire was cozy, the kitchen had everything sorted for a cooked breakfast, and the bed is super comfy. We stayed 3 nights and were sad to say goodbye at the end of it! Highly recommend staying here for anyone coming through the Clare.

    Phoebe2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful weekend at Trevalia! It was very comfortable and had everything we needed. The wood burning stove kept the place so cosy and warm, robes, slippers, electric blanket and a great homely atmosphere. I am vegan and Regie made sure that I had all of my needs met in regards to that so I was extremely happy 🤗 Clare was a little disappointing, as we remember from years ago that it had a lot of antique shops and art galleries, but that seems to have changed. We did however drive on to Burra (about 45 mins) and loved it, antique shops, great eateries and lots of interesting architecture and history. We can definitely recommend staying at Trevalia you won’t be disappointed.

    Jenny2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Penwortham and hope to come again. The location is great across the road from the Riesling Trail and close to many restaurants and cellar doors. Very generous breakfast provisions and other thoughtful additions were much appreciated.

  • An adorable, homey place to stay in Clare right along the Riesling Trail. The cottage was clean and had everything we needed. The fireplace kept the place nice and snug during winter. We will certainly be recommending this accommodation to any of our friends who wish to visit!

  • Wonderful wonderful place to stay. Beautiful spaces. Peaceful and great views. The cozy wood fire is perfect. So much breakfast. I can't fault it. Wish I could stay longer

    Justin2019-05-13T00:00:00Z
  • Just arrived home after a two night stay at this beautiful little cottage. This was my partner and my favourite Air B&B experience so far! We didn’t want to leave. It was such a cosy little place, we absolutely loved all the stone walls and that they had the fireplace ready for us on arrival. Even though we didn’t have time to eat it because we went out for an early winery lunch both days, we really appreciated them providing breakfast, and the gorgeous special touches like choccies, fruit, milk, brochures for things to do around the area etc. They honestly though of everything, and we will definitely be back again if they’ll have us! Maybe next time when the weathers a bit better so we can enjoy the gorgeous courtyard :)

  • Impeccable hosts. Great communication pre-arrival and really welcoming when we arrived. Beautiful and clean place and equipped with everything you need for our stay. Really appreciate the amazing breakfast in the morning. Best AirBnb we've ever stayed at, complete with a superbly adorable, friendly and playful dog that I would have taken home myself :). Also appreciated and loved how Richard and Chris shared their passions and experiences with us during our short stay. Definitely would recommend a stay at their place.

    Paul2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • We booked in last minute and it was no hassle arriving later than we planned. Richard and Chris were so welcoming, the room was spotless and very comfortable. And the added bonus of cooked breakfast... it was delicious! Would stay there again any time! Thanks for having us!

    Elise2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Richard and Chris were outstanding hosts with a wonderful home. We felt incredibly welcome from the moment we arrived. Mintaro is a great location to be in, arguably better than in Clare as you are surrounded by some of the best wineries in the area. Richard and Chris have all the local knowledge so don't be afraid to ask! Thank you for everything, and we hope we will see you again!

    Matt2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Clean and comfortable room within the house. Delicious breakfast and friendly home owners.

    Richard2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a very enjoyable few days with Richard and Chris while visiting attractions and wineries in the area. Our hosts made us feel very welcome, going above and beyond to make our stay exceptional. We have nothing but praise and strongly recommend this stay to others.

    Martin And Debra2019-12-06T00:00:00Z
  • We would come back anytime to Richard and Chris home - It was home away from home for us. The yummy breakfast, great conversations, the local tips, all amenties we needed, and the warmest hospitality we had experienced on AirBnB.

    Kimberley2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Richard and Chris are both down to earth and very accommodating hosts. They have their own stories to tell and are good listeners. They made us feel at home from the very beginning. The night sky is very dark and clear in Mintaro, when there is no moon, and is worthwhile looking at.

I understand it is a new listing, but Janine has thought this through and provided a stylist property, well appointed with top class furnishings and amenities. She has the property well catered and has not forgotten a thing. She is a 'superhost'. The free breakfast provided was outstanding, of quality foods. the gardens were a delight, fantastic outdoor entertaining area, great location, two minutes walk for the main street, cafes and wineries.
