Holiday rentals with a fireplace in Rivas

We LOVED this wonderful place and its surroundings! The view, the deck, the garden with butterflies and hummingbirds. The kitchen is small, but perfectly equipped. And the peaceful and private location. And of course, the Cloudbridge Reserva with beautiful trails, which were doable even for a family of four (kids 4 and 8 y/o).

Necesitábamos unos días de descanso fuera del ruido y la rutina de la ciudad, y en esta casa encontramos mucha paz, naturaleza y tranquilidad. Además de unos perritos súper amistosos y acceso a servicios básicos a unos 10min de distancia.

Our party of 12 all loved our stay. We particularly appreciated the attentiveness of Emanuel, who offered local expertise and guidance, and the immediate responses from the host, Peter. The birds and monkeys we could see from the patio made it a spectacular location. Lovely patio and pool. Table that seated 12 and a well equipped kitchen that could accommodate multiple cooks made the stay even more delightful. Thanks!

Wow, this place was absolutely magical. We were so grateful to have stayed in such a gorgeous home for 6 nights and have the chance to see 2 different types of toucans, howler monkeys, capuchin monkeys, and coatis all on the property. The location and home were secure, clean, and impressive. Beds were comfortable, air conditioning worked well, showers werea dream. In the pictures, the Whale's Tail looked like it would be hard to see, but the actual view of Uvita and the Whale's Tail is pretty incredible and much closer than expected. We have been to Costa Rica a couple of times now and choose homes higher up in the jungle for the privacy and view, but I will say this house is UP THERE. There's no way a non-4x4 car would make it up. It was quite the ride, and did take us longer than google maps said to expect. Even with the drive, this place is where you want to be. Couldn't have been better. Diana, Roberto and team were also amazing to work with, friendly, and very responsive.

This place is a gem, I had a lovely stay for many reasons. Starting with Vanesa and her prompt and friendly replies to my inquiries to the lovely house and its amenities. The place is spacious and charming and the location is great, I drove my car but ended walking to most places since it's conveniently located close to the restaurants and places of interest in town. The garden is beautiful and has a lot of fruits trees, I gorged on oranges and tangerines during my stay :) The top highlight for me was that the property has a private trail that runs from the house down to the Chirripo river, its simply beautiful, i spent hours there every day just swiming sunbathing reading and enjoying the nature, it was exceptional. Totally recommend it.

Nos hospedamos en la casa de Doug por una noche 4 familias, con 4 niños, la zona es de las más lindas de Costa Rica, tiene una vista espectacular y si te gusta el gusta el clima frío es el lugar ideal para unas vacaciones fuera de la ciudad pero bastante cerca. La cabaña super acogedora, equipada con todo lo que necesitábamos para las necesidades de todas las familias, Doug super atento desde el primer momento. La pasamos realmente bien - la recomendaríamos y regresaremos sin duda. Nos encantó!

Vamosa’s home was just perfect for what we wanted. Privacy, jungle, in the middle of mountains and overlooking Whale’s Tail. The view is absolutely stunning! Loved the wrap around balcony, so you could enjoy several different outdoor spaces. The pool was refreshing & really liked the waterfall & beach entry of it. Even like the fact it was lit up all night. It was a tad chilly due to the daily rain, but we made the best of it when the sun was out. We spotted monkeys & toucans. Please note that you will definitely need a 4x4 to get there. The roads aren’t paved in certain areas of mountains so be mindful when selecting a rental. I would highly recommend arriving prior to the sun setting. We arrived at night by the time we arrived from San Jose & it was a bit of a struggle navigating up the mountain in the dark & rain when you’re not aware of where you’re going. Make sure to take a picture of her step by step directions & keep it handy because you will lose connectivity from Waze.

The views from this home are spectacular, and it is a fantastic refuge that makes you feel like you are up in the clouds with jungle all around you. It was a perfect retreat for our family. The driveway is a little steep but totally doable with 4x4 and common for Costa Rica. The bird watching is incredible from here. Easy access to nature nearby and a market and restaurant not too far away. We had a great time!

What an amazing location! Probably one of the most stunning views of Costa Rica but certainly the best learning experience on sustainable living! The cooking of Marga is fantastic, make sure to eat there! You'll enjoy the nature and surroundings of this amazing finca! Un encanto for the mind and soul. I really enjoyed the tour of the finca and the approach/mindset on life. One day I hope to be back!

This place was an amazing retreat into the mountains after a long week in the humidity at envision. A beautiful place to decompress and relax amongst the clouds. Chema and Marga are amazing hosts, so kind and open with fascinating stories and insights into eco- living. The food is incredible— fresh local ingredients and made with love. I highly recommend! Definitely visit the nearby swimming holes / waterfalls as well. One of my favorite places to date!

I arrived at Chema and Marga’s place after a long bumpy ride on an unpaved road. My first view of the property almost brought tears to my eyes - their home is basically in the clouds! I felt so lucky to be there. And then when I walked in through the big, beautiful, heavy wooden front doors the sight of the interior really took my breath away. Even now words escape me as it is difficult to describe the feeling of peace and serenity I felt immediately. The home is just gorgeous and I have great respect for Chema and Marga for building this masterpiece by hand. Everything the other reviewers said is accurate, I will just add that there is a majestic view of the stars on clear nights, that Marga is one of the strongest and most amazing women I’ve ever met, and Chema is a wise old man who gave me incredible information about the earth that I’m really grateful for. I was so glad to have had access to such delicious home cooked vegan meals as well - thankful to the hosts for accommodating my specific diet. This is a perfect place to get away from city life, to experience the healing gifts of nature and to be in silence. Thank you Chema and Marga for opening up your home to guests, and allowing us access to this slice of paradise.

Beautiful property and extraordinary views. Liberty was a very responsive and gracious host, we truly enjoyed our stay, the pool and the tower which was where we hung out most! Grocery stores and restaurants were available within a short distance, although we cooked a lot on property, we even got to experience a local festival.

Dit was ons laatste verblijf tijdens onze reis door Costa Rica en het was echt de perfecte afsluiter! Het huis is prachtig gelegen in een schitterende omgeving. Alles was tot in de puntjes verzorgd: de kamers en badkamer waren zeer schoon, het beddengoed fris en het zwembad uitstekend onderhouden. De keuken was volledig uitgerust met alles wat je maar nodig hebt – iets wat we in andere accommodaties soms misten. Denk aan een blender, scherpe messen, dunschiller, snijplanken, borden, kommen, enzovoort. Het maakte het koken hier echt aangenaam. Daarnaast waren de hosts ontzettend vriendelijk en behulpzaam, vooral bij het plannen van activiteiten. Een absolute aanrader is het inhuren van een privéchef. Wij deden dit voor het diner en het was een geweldige ervaring – alles was tot in de puntjes geregeld en heerlijk verzorgd. Kortom: een toplocatie (met veel toekans, super leuk!) en een prachtig huis. We zouden dit verblijf zeker aanraden!

I booked this listing for a group of 8 women. We all needed time to get away from our busy lives in the U.S. The six nights at La Sombra were peaceful and inspiring! What a beautiful location and beautiful grounds. We were all stunned by the property, in a good way:) It was even better than the beautiful pictures provided. Each villa was appointed beautifully with quality linens, towels, robes, bath soaps, dishes, etc. We especially enjoyed the patio views and the design of the structures that incorporate natural light and the surrounding nature. We ate dinner each night on the patio of the main house, and found a spot for morning meditations on the bridge. Catherine and Ryan were available and responsive before, during and after our visit. And, I cannot say enough about the local cook, Marta. We all wanted to take her home with us! What a treat:) Thank you for sharing your home with us, Catherine and Ryan!

This is a very special place up in the cloud forest. In the morning you can see the Pacific coast and mountains and in the afternoon you can watch the clouds come in. It's stunning. The dome structure is spectacular and the interior is pure zen. We had a lot of interesting conversations with Chema and Marga's food is so tasty and balanced. This was a one of kind place.
