This studio is above our detached garage, about 30ft. in front of our house. It has a private entrance with stairs up to the loft. Perfect for one or two people. We share this property with some stray cats, a couple of deer friends, and pesky racoons. As we are about 40 yds off the road, there is private parking with motion detecting nightlights and a sidewalk leading to the entrance. The room has a small refrigerator, micro-wave oven, student desk and old, wooden office chair. Two folding chairs and a table are provided for sitting on the balcony. There is a twin bed and a scissor futon couch that makes into a full-sized bed. Towels, soap, shampoo and bedding for the couch-bed are provded. Private parking is 20 ft. from the entrance with motion detecting nightlights for your safety. Guest will have access to the studio and our yard, which borders on a dedicated wetlands. There are no trails. We are providing a clean, quiet and private space for guest to enjoy their time here in Arcata and Humboldt County. We are availabe for directions and recommendations, otherwise, we ask that our privacy be respected. Our neighborhood is quiet and rural, surrounded by trees. We have deer that roam our yard, sometimes on a daily basis. There is a good coffee/ sandwhich shop about 50yds from the house - they do not give "to go" cups, so we provide them. There is a small shopping center 1 mile towards Arcata that has a friendly neighborhood market, laundromat, hardware store and restaurant. This is a bike friendly area, with wide bike lanes. We are 2.5 miles from Humboldt State University - a 5 minute drive or a 10 minute bike ride. We are 3 miles southeast of Arcata and 4 miles northeast of Eureka. We are 1 mile from the nearest public transit. It is at Sunny Brae shopping center. This is the southernmost point for the Mad River transit and connects in Arcata to Redwood Transit that connects Fortuna, Eureka and Trinidad.
“Jerry’s place was fantastic. He came out and greeted us and showed us our place while giving us tips on what we can do around town. The studio felt very clean and comfortable and was a perfect little place. Not to mention there’s the cutest cats that hang around outside !!! :)”
This charming retreat has everything you need as a base camp for your Redwood Adventures. It's located down a quiet country road that feels far away from town but is only 4 easy miles from Arcata, home of Humboldt State University and 6 miles to Eureka. The clean and freshly decorated space has a queen size bed and a full size futon style couch. Both beds have been reported as VERY comfortable!
“Jayne and Mike's Redwood Retreat is a little slice of Humboldt heaven. This was the peaceful break much needed. The studio is secluded and wrapped in redwoods, yet only a short drive into the Arcata Plaza for all your food and supply needs. Mike was super responsive to any questions and had great insights to the area. Their dog Lucky is truly a lover and was happy to share space with our cockapoo Tahoe. The bonus on it all was the bbq (fresh oysters from Dock B in Eureka are great on the grill ) and the Hot Tub. Highly recommended if it's available.”

“I imagine my words are only echoed and repeated in myriad ways throughout what is surely a sea of praise, but just in case.... We have used Airbnb in our travels all over the world and still....promptly....this magical little spot that is delightfully eccentric, truly unique, and full of character and creativity, has become a gem that ranks high at the top of our list of experiences. If you aren't already swayed by the perfect home's interior itself- artwork everywhere, meticulously detailed information and labeling for everything you could possibly have questions about, a beautiful kitchen space, massive televisions, the biggest and one of the most comfortable beds I've slumbered away in, aromatherapy, and a gazillion other details, you will be pulled in by the property it sits on. Waking up to the sound of seals barking and waves crashing and the sight of a beautiful rocky ocean with hummingbirds buzzing outside your window is a surefire way to start your day off right and everyone should get to experience this once in their lives. The hot tub, sauna, fire pit and seating areas outside with a breathtaking backdrop are something pictures and words can't appropriately do any justice to. Experience them in the morning, then come back at night to experience them again, only completely transformed by the magical touches of solar lighting everywhere you look. My advice to you? Take advantage of the trail to the beach. It is even more amazing than it is treacherous, and you'll be handsomely rewarded for your efforts. Wear sturdy shoes and bring some water, and don't make any plans because if you're anything like us, you'll happily be spending the bulk of your day exploring the stunning rocky shores, watching the literal HUNDREDS of seals and sea lions, collecting shells, and stopping to slow down, breathe in the ocean air, and get lost in a literal paradise.”
