Entire 2nd floor/Comfortable and quiet traditional house, "Guesthouse Kokuminmachi Kayanoki"

ThomasRating, 5 stars1 month ago
A huge thank you for the welcome! We felt welcomed as family. The place is beautiful and the breakfast was amazing with fresh homemade 🍞 bread. Our only regret is that we didn't plan time to spend with our hosts who have a lot to tell. They are people with a beautiful and rich history. Thanks!

Kamesei Ryokan, quiet onsen inn, private standard

JoachimRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
We really enjoyed our time at Kamesei Ryokan! Tyler and his wife were really friendly and the check-in process went really smooth. The location had so much to offer and the onsen itself is a 5-star rating! When in the area again, we won’t doubt to stay here once more!

[Yudanaka Yumoto] Authentic Ryokan

KatherineRating, 5 stars1 month ago
Yasuyo collected us from the station without us even asking (it's only a 10 minute walk otherwise!). she was warm and welcoming and explained everything clearly to us. the breakfast was delicious and the Onsen incredible. The room was actually a suite of rooms which made for a relaxing stay! Yasuyo drove us to the monkey park in the morning and even leant us umbrellas. honestly a delightful stay! simply perfect. careful of the hottest bath in the Onsen! it's very very hot!

Eco B&B in harmony with nature. A double room with a comfortable interior and an environmentally friendly stay in the forest

JacobRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
It really was one of the highlights of our holiday to stay at Il Bosco! The perfect place to unwind and relax from the busyness of the towns and cities. We stayed for 5 days in late May (off season) but it was perfect for us. Lots of nice walks and time to chill. We signed up to the dinner most nights that Koki cooked and that was delicious. The continental breakfasts were also great with homemade breads and a great assortment. Being able to use the large bath was also something we looked forward to every evening! I really wish we could be back there now tucked into the woods of Kamishiro. There were two mountain bikes you could use freely but we also hired a car close by for two days to explore the surrounding area a little more. Koki was also there to pick us up upon arrival at Kamishiro and also offered to drop us back at the end of our stay. Thanks again for your hospitality and kindness!

Ruisseau, a private inn in a traditional house in Shinshu Kogawa-mura, limited to one group per day

暢子Rating, 5 stars4 weeks ago
I used it for 1 night with 2 meals. They were very kind and polite, and I had a very luxurious time.✨ The furniture was also stylish and I felt that it was well thought out, and I was very satisfied with the bath, which was a unit bath but had an oxygen bubble bath. Personally, I was very grateful that they listened to my selfishness when I asked if I could take a bath in the morning as well as at night! I would like to visit this recommended inn again!

The Drop Inn, single bunk bed, free pickup

BeckyRating, 5 stars2 months ago
I had an amazing time at the Drop Inn in Hakuba. I came right at the end of snow season for a little ski at the start of my trip and I couldn't have chosen a better place. Pat, Kim and Sandra are amazing hosts and went out of their way to help make my visit smooth. The house is a very sweet traditional Japanese building, with sliding doors and tatami mats (and comfy beds!) upstairs. The bedcover was maybe the highest quality I have ever experienced. I had a private ski lesson with Kim (I hadn't ski'd for over 10 years) which was really amazing and really helped me to advance my skills - he was a great instructor and able to adapt to what I needed to learn in each moment really well. All clothing and equipment needed, even gloves and goggles! is available to hire either directly from these guys or from their neighbour at a good price. It was very quiet when I was there (end of March) but that was perfect for me. Coffee is available in the morning & the hosts are a wealth of knowledge!

Experience life in an old house at Kominka Amamane/Goemon bath/Japanese countryside/Breakfast included/Limited to one group per day

MoRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
Easily my favourite place to stay in Japan. My second time staying here, different season this time late Spring (previously stayed in Winter). The mountain home is hosted by two of the kindest people and the coolest dog Japan has to offer. I enjoyed a variety of delicious food each day, a cozy home to reset in and escape the busy city life, explored the beauty of a mountain village with kind residents and a very an accessible natural environment. We engaged in conversations during meals and throughout the day, which always makes the time at Kominka Amane memorable. I had a peek at the rice planting season in Nagano, and exploring mountain rice paddies; which was always a dream of mine growing up watching martial arts movies. My favourite day was a rainy one, where the nature becomes so vivid and perfect for photography. Standing at the edge of the rice paddy during the rain, looking out beyond the mountains and mist, in pure silence for hours was simply epic. See you next year!
