An original sake brewery built in the late Edo period

The location and property was fantastic. We were looking for a unique experience in a mountain vilage and thats exactly what we got. Ikuko san was very welcoming and went out of her way to arrange special bedding requirements for my elderly mother. We were even given fresh local eggs, butter and bread upon arrival. Would definitely reccomend.

[Old house in Tokushima] Irori back and indigo dyeing experience accommodation, near Awa Yamagawa Awagami Factory * No room designation

AlisonRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
We had such a magical experience staying at the Bando-Shoten guest house. It is gorgeous and so well designed with authentic features yet so comfortable. The tatami rooms were dreamy, and we did the indigo dyeing experience with our family which was awesome. The kids and I loved it and we have special souvenirs now. We also had the irori meal in the special room. The fire was prepared and the pot hangs from the roof by a rope and we had delicious fresh vegetables and broth and meats and seafood. And tried some local plum wine! We highly recommend a stay here if you can, to truly have a boutique yet authentically Japanese stay in a small town by a river. Thank you!

Countryside Nook: Near Roads, Ideal for Explorers!

It took us a while to find the property, but Isa gave us photos that helped us a lot. We really enjoyed the shared kitchen which has everything you need and the coffee offered. It's a great value for money! Perfect for a short break on a trip to Shikoku.

"Modern Elegance in Traditional Japanese Setting"

WojciechRating, 5 stars2 months ago
I stayed at HS Japan in Awa-Shi for one night as a pilgrim on the Shikoku Henro trail, and it was my very first overnight stop on the route. The location is very convenient—just about 2 km from Temple No. 10, Kirihataji. The host, Isa, is incredibly kind and always smiling, which made me feel truly welcome. The place itself is spotlessly clean, comfortable, and equipped with everything a pilgrim might need. I couldn’t have asked for a better start to my pilgrimage.

[Tokushima's Kominya] 3-5 people in Irio-fu, indigo-dyeing, Awa Wa Paper no Sato, Yamagawa-cho "Ainoba"

I highly recommend staying at Noriko's house. It was the best experience of my trip to Japan. I felt at home with my dear and sweet Kamecha, always very kind teaching me her knowledge about indigo. Naoki was always very kind and helped me a lot with a problem I had with my car. The house has a very authentic Japanese style with good taste in decoration and many antique pieces. Very cozy and comfortable. Noriko was always very helpful and kind with messages as she was in Tokyo. Just five minute far by car there’s an amazing onsen with a view to the river and waterfall. I hope to come back there soon as they are like my family in Japan.
