Super friendly and helpful host who walked us from the train station to his gorgeous house for easy orientation. You will fall asleep to frog sounds in a cozy clean bed and wake up to a sunny balcony. Very easy to feel welcome here, thank you!

Mitsuka, authentic Japanese style guest house

AthenaRating, 5 stars1 week ago
Kunikata -san was a professional and gracious host. She sent clear instructions before arrival, including a tip about getting food beforehand as it was a Sunday. When I left, she advised me on where to pick up dinner as my next location wouldn't have any. The house is super well kept and has a number of antiques on display. Finally, the room was spacious and had tasteful decor. Also, her breakfast is not to be missed! Highly recommend staying at Mitsuka.

Fulfilling an adult's solo trip NOMAyado/room W (ocean view)

SylvainRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
This accommodation is a surprising and unusual place on the other side of the world. We loved it! It depends on the type of traveler you are. It's a beautiful home with beautiful architecture. It's a place where art is present, like a gallery, a library, a little bohemian but everything is impeccable. It's the sea, the seaweed farmers next door. Around it is a quiet village with disused structures that give a film-like atmosphere. It's a real favorite! The host welcomed us with a matcha. He was involved and discreet. We even bought him a piece of art. For travelers looking for original experiences and atmospheres. For those who want to take a moment off from mass tourism.

Shikoku Pilgrimage near Byodoji 【22nd】ROOM1

JadeRating, 5 stars2 months ago
I based myself at Aratano, Yuki’s guest house, Namazu, with the intention to explore Tokushima prefecture. Extremely close to the train station, very nice hiking itineraries in the area, a free bike to rent for the day — location was overall quite convenient ! Yuki was incredibly kind, even though my japanese sucks at this point (as I literally just arrived for a full year ahead), he invited me to local events, I met amazing people thanks to him, I had the opportunity to do many things beside the pilgrimage : bamboo shoot harvesting, local curry tasting, kayaking… I was lucky enough to have a taste of one of his many fishing sessions 🐟. It was absolutely amazing, and the food was to die for ! So if you’re looking for a wholesome japanese countryside life — this is the place to go ! I had a wonderful time and already planned to come back this summer for the festivals and fireworks period. 何から何までありがとうございました!! 🙂‍↕️🙏🏼🌸

Hidden House Accommodation Yoshitaro | Tanisha cuisine (hope system) and Daisho Koku Minshuku | Welcome & Departure

AthenaRating, 5 stars1 week ago
Had a wonderful stay with Takayama-san. For walking henro, the pickup from Katsuura at the foot of Kakurinji is very convenient. Highly recommend taking the meal offer. Mitsuko-san was very accommodating to my vegetable-focused meal request and confirmed whether ingredients such as eggs and fish were OK. The house has a lot of history, with various antiques and a garden. If you go in June, the biwa tree will have fruit to taste. It’s a wonderful way to enjoy a space that has both legacy and tastefully designed modernisations. Have a read through their welcome package before arriving. It's very well prepared by Sayaka-san and will help you enjoy your stay to the fullest.

[Old house in Tokushima] Irori back and indigo dyeing experience accommodation, near Awa Yamagawa Awagami Factory * No room designation

AlisonRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
We had such a magical experience staying at the Bando-Shoten guest house. It is gorgeous and so well designed with authentic features yet so comfortable. The tatami rooms were dreamy, and we did the indigo dyeing experience with our family which was awesome. The kids and I loved it and we have special souvenirs now. We also had the irori meal in the special room. The fire was prepared and the pot hangs from the roof by a rope and we had delicious fresh vegetables and broth and meats and seafood. And tried some local plum wine! We highly recommend a stay here if you can, to truly have a boutique yet authentically Japanese stay in a small town by a river. Thank you!
