Holiday rentals in Marea del Portillo

The place is actually not a typical casa particular, but a real eco-resort. You live in your own bungalow on the property of the host family, of which there are several. The furnishings are simple, but functional. The air conditioning is a bit of nonsense, because the room is largely open (safely protected by fly screens), so you would have to cool the entire Sierra Maestra if you turn it on, but you don't have to, because at the altitude the night temperature was completely OK even in the hot summer. Ceiling fans also provide a refreshing breeze. So everything is fine. The location is spectacular. In the middle of the Sierra Maestra, right at the entrance to the national park, on the other side of the river. You can't get any closer to nature. A small path leads from the Casa to a holiday camp and then to some small cottages with a lot of pets, so that, if you like, you can enjoy a large dose of rural Cuba on a short walk. In the Casa itself, on the other hand, you have the feeling of nature in the forest. The restaurant belonging to the Casa, which also serves as a living room, is particularly beautiful. Here you sit outside, the bar is open for the guests at night, there is beer and cocktails, and of course breakfast and dinner, both at very fair prices in very good quality (but without choice - there is just a dish, on the first evening it was wonderful suckling pig with us, on the second juicy chicken). The friendly staff organize all desired excursions and arrange this with the national park staff (without guide you can't do anything), which is very practical. The mandatory tour to Comandancia La Plata, where Castro was entrenched before the revolution, is so easy to arrange, including horse rides. If you come by car: You can easily and safely park on the other side of the river, the friendly helpers drag your suitcases across the river. Highly recommend!

The place belongs to Ulysses and so much to say that this man is amazing! It is warm, welcoming, caring, helpful, etc. A real plus when visiting this remote area. Its small village hidden in the mountain is a haven of peace that is worth a look. Meals are a treat and in the evening it looks like a village party. From start to finish, we felt confident and at the house in this place cut off from the rest of the island. A place to stay absolutely. Thanks again.

The lodge in the mountains is special. The arrival is a bit bumpy, but it's worth it. Ulises also helps if you want to take a tour in the Sierra, e.g. to Comandancia. Food was good and plentiful and in the nearby river you could swim a little.

Charming location immersed in the unspoiled nature of the Sierra Maestra. Excellent cleanliness and hospitality ........ breakfast rich in fruit and natural juices. Dinner with Suckling Pig Asado Unforgettable. Next time I'll stop for a week

The rooms are simple, but everything important is there and everything was super clean. The location is a dream with a wonderful view over the river to the national park. Crossing the river on the small bridge is a little adventure and we were very happy that our hosts carried the suitcases. Food was great, so was Mojito. Small secret tip.

It's a very nice house in a wonderful place and very quiet. The family is very cheerful, hospitable and help in all matters such as arranging a cab from Bayamo to the house. It is also very close to the Turquino National Park and by the Silver Command. The people to join us to the Park and the Commandancia have good and interesting infomarciones. Very beautiful area. Comfortable and quiet. Wifi connection was not great.. however being that this is near a mountain range that is to be expected. Ulysses was extremely helpful with organizing a hike to the comandancia de la plata.
