Butterfly Cottage Sunbird Hill, Kibale Forest edge

Butterfly Cottage at Sunbird Hill, Kibale Forest edge operates entirely on solar energy. It has its own garden within my daughter's 40 acre estate adjacent to Kibale National Park. Julia is a primatologist who spent over 5 years habituating and studying the chimpanzees there. The chimps are not aware of the forest boundary, of course, and often visit Julia's land - especially when the fig trees are fruiting. There is an abundance of birds, butterflies and other interesting creatures.

Lake Kerere Cottage

Enjoy this stunning location, with incredible views over Lake Kerere and Kibale National Park, with the Rwenzoris Mountains as your other view. There are 2 full time staff to help with washing dishes and cleaning. The cottage is situated on 27 acres of private land with 800 meters of lawn on the crater lake rim - all to yourself. It is a 45 minute drive to the chimp tracking starting point. It’s a great spot to go for walks, runs, bike rides and swim in the crater lakes.

Get out of your everyday life for a moment. Breathe fresh air, listen to the birds, gaze at the lakes or the blue turacos from the terrace of your wooden house on stilts, let not only your soul but also your legs dangle from one of swings and hammocks. Join us at the campfire or enjoy a relaxed day biting in pineapples, mangos or avocados from my garden. And yes, it’s off the grid, but don‘t panic, there is solar energy to charge your electronic devices.

Guests stay at Sunbird Hill to enjoy the unspoilt nature around them. Each overnight guest has a Nature Walk on the house highlighting the beauty of flora and small fauna on the edge of Kibale National Park. An obvious choice for people who do not want to stay in a lodge but want to be close to the start location of tracking the chimpanzees with UWA.
