Yumi and Brad have turned a tired hotel into a great little place that offers Western style service while maintaining the charm of small mountain village family inn. Room was Japanese style with a big queen size bed. Could easily sleep 5 people making the value very good. Breakfast was simple but filling. Great little bar downstairs with live music 3 nights a week. The best part of Yumi's place is the location. Right smack in the center of town. Not a lot to do, but it's a great place for a few days. Oh. And the skiing is world class! Just a short walk to the people mover and the hill is yours. Hit the hot spring baths around town after a ski and you will know why Japan is so magical! I'll be back!

Scout is an excellent host who runs an amazing Japanese-style hostel. The location is fantastic, especially if you want to escape the bustling city of Tokyo for a while. Scout's House is located in an amazing environment. It's an old public bath, showers are a clue. Scout is very helpful, kind and has great advice. We stayed for a week, so we could enjoy the Nikko area. Scout takes care of breakfast and dinner if needed, while being vegetated. It's also a great place to meet people, it's not uncommon to be 7 or 8 different nationalities over a drink in the evening on the terrace, in front of the river, paradise... Bikes are available to take a tour around the area. Just there are no shops nearby, you have to think about shopping in Nikko if you want to cook on site.
