To see the workings of a multi-generational family farm, stay in a 170 year old house with beautiful high-quality furniture and fittings, and engage with a kind and gentle-natured farmer and his wife…was wonderful. A gentle desert rain arrived as we got there and set the tone for one of the most restful holidays we have ever had. The farmer’s 2 dogs popped in every now and again and made themselves part of the family. Richard and Anika were accommodating and quick to sort out anything we asked for. The house was spotlessly clean and filled with history from the 1800s. There was a sense of warmth with the people living / working on the farm as well. The drive to Nieu Bethesda was around 15min going up a gorgeous gentle pass which presented something new every time we travelled. The highlight of the stay was walking up the hill behind the house and sitting on the bench overlooking the farm, valley, and mountains at sunset. Thank you Richard and Anika (our kids say hi).

We really enjoyed our stay here! We were a group of 4 couples who stayed over the Stoep Tasting weekend. Absolutely perfect location, close to all the hustle and bustle so we could walk to all the Stoeps! The properly is beautiful, kitchen was well equipped and had lovely peaceful garden. The only recommendation I can make is for vanity mirrors in the bedrooms so us ladies can see what we’re doing 😉 I can highly recommend 🌟

This was our second stay, and it did not disappoint! There is something comforting about coming back to a place you stayed at before to find it's exactly as you remember it, especially in a different season! We arranged some t-bone steaks with Nilene and had them on the braai with a glass of wine, looking at the stars - it couldn't get better! Our top tips: You must drive a high-clearance vehicle to reach the cottage. Bring warm slippers and a gown to sit outside and look at the stars at night in autumn and winter. Order or bring your firewood in autumn and winter - you will love the fire! Arrange some steaks or chops with Nilene before travel so you have something delicious to look forward to for dinner! Finally, enjoy the silence, the cool, clean air, and the beautiful surroundings!

Our family of four came from East London meeting up with my in-laws from Carnarvon for a long weekend three night stay. Lara's place was awesome, the kids loved Netflix. The indoor & outdoor braai is awesome giving you options depending on the weather. Supermarkets are really close by to get groceries and the rest is all at the accomodation to cater for one self. The beds were super comfortable and two bathrooms were really convenient. Furniture in the house are also top class. Highly recommend Lara's place for anybody seeking accommodation in Graaff Reinet.

We had a wonderful stay at Charles’ place. Everything was within walking distance and we could explore the town on foot. The house is well equipped and we had everything we needed.

This is a lovely farm house in Nieu Bethesda. Very comfortable rooms and bed. Cool and airy space (especially because we arrived during a heat spell) and fans (which were really appreciated). As others have noted, the bathroom is small and does not have a shower only a bath which my elderly father struggled with but this is manageable for a day or two. Otherwise, the hosts and the house are lovely. The small museum / gallery on the property houses some truly beautiful and remarkable tapestries.

It was neat and tidy. We were traveling with two long trailers and were able to park them both comfortably and securely behind a locked gate with security. Right on the doorstep of a coffee shop and easy to get to where we needed to go.

It was very central and we enjoyed visiting the many museums, the landmarks and quaint restaurants in Graaff-Reinet. The bobotie we ordered for dinner last night was delicious.

I usually take the traditional route between Cape Town and Johannesburg, stopping in Colesberg or Richmond. This time, I explored a new path and discovered Nieu-Bethesda—a hidden gem. The town’s gravel roads, fantastic restaurants, free-roaming horses, and the sound of owls at night created a magical atmosphere, especially while enjoying incredible lamb dishes. The highlight was my stay at Ludolf and Carla’s Airbnb. Their beautifully restored, pet-friendly home is tastefully decorated and equipped with every comfort. Thoughtful touches—welcome sherry, luxurious bedding, Africalogic amenities, homemade rusks, and fresh milk—made me feel truly pampered. Their property also features a stunning underground cellar for special events. Ludolf and Carla provided excellent communication and a detailed town map. Their hospitality, combined with Nieu-Bethesda’s charm, made this an unforgettable experience. I’m officially a fan and will definitely be back!

Stayed at Spandou Manor for the Stoep Tasting weekend. Stan is a fantastic host. The accommodation is perfect for a couples weekend away. Close to town and really peaceful. Highly Recommend.

We stopped over here on route from Pretoria to George. It was such a blessing. Comfortable, beautifully furnished, clean, all the amenities you need as well as more to just make you feel looked after. It definitely brought us the rest we needed. Carina was also super helpful and provided a lot of information and assistance. Thank you for a lovely stay, would definitely recommend it. Beautiful town with lovely old houses and wide open roads with incredible nature surrounding it. We had a picnic breakfast at the valley of Desolation ( Make time to do so) before continuing our trip.

Wonderful place to stay! Dennis was friendly and very helpful. He ensured the aircon was turned on before we arrived (on a very hot day) and it was very easy to communicate with him. We would definitely stay here again.
