Join me, a beer sommelier, for an immersive 3 hour dive into Dutch beer culture and history with a pub crawl through Amsterdam’s Old Town to uncover how beer shaped Dutch history—from medieval times to the modern craft beer revolution. • We will meet in Dam Square right in front of The Royal Palace and then take a 5 minute walk to our first venue. • Our first stop will be De Pilsener Club, a cozy traditional bar that opened in 1893. Sip a classic beer as I explain beer’s impact on trade from the Middle Ages to the 17th century. • Next, head to the tasting room at In De Wildeman to enjoy a carefully chosen beer from the selection of 18 on tap and 250-plus in bottles. I’ll discuss the effects of the Industrial Revolution on commercial brewing. • Wrap up with a locally brewed craft beer at Proeflokaal Arendsnest, which has more than 50 Dutch beers on tap and more than 100 types in bottles. As we reflect on how beer styles have evolved for modern palates, you’ll leave with suggestions for more places to drink good beer in Amsterdam.

I’ll share insights into the development of the alternative art scene, including the history of squatting and how it transformed NDSM into the thriving creative hub it is today. You’ll have the chance to paint on a legal graffiti wall, with guidance to help you leave your mark. Wrap up with a final drink at IJver Amsterdam, reflecting on the art and culture we’ve explored. You’ll leave with a newfound appreciation for Amsterdam street art’s creative roots and impact.

The rise of Haarlem Walking Tour

First we will meet in the Grote Markt (main town square) there is a very large statue of a local printmaker next to the Grote of Sint Bavo (Cathedral). This is a unique and original walking tour that will give insight into how Haarlem came to be and the people behind it. The tour covers the origins of Haarlem, Art and Architecture, from earlier Gothic through to Jugendstil and the Amsterdam School, life, death and high culture in Medieval and Renaissance times. Buildings are a reflection of society and Haarlem has over 1200 historic buildings. However while the buildings are protected they are no longer a document to the social changes that have occurred. On this tour you will find out how most of the changes have taken place on the inside. The tour will take you to some places off the main tourist routes and help you see the buildings in a new light. With each stop a window to the past will be opened, in the process painting a picture of the city from its humble beginnings to the present day. We finish the tour at a beautiful rooftop terrace this also makes a great photo opportunity or if everyone fancies it a craft brewery depending on the mood.

We are going to walk in the city center, The Hague. We will visit the political center of The Netherlands. Binnenhof has been the center of political life in The Netherlands for 800 years and is the oldest parliamentary complex in Europe. The Binnehof complex houses the General States (Parliament of the Netherlands), the Senate, the cabinet of Prime Minister, Ridderzaal, the Dutch State Council, the Ministry of General Affairs of The Netherlands, and the Mauritshuis Royal Picture Gallery. In 2021, the Binnenhof closed for renovation. During our walk around the Binnenhof complex, I will tell you about Binnenhof renovation, the modern political life of the Netherlands, the history of the adoption of the constitution, about important historical events and prominent political figures. I will show you the place of executions and torture, the famous prison, which is now a museum. I’ll tell you about the most terrible event that shocked the whole of Europe and is the darkest spot in the history of Holland. We continue our walk to the Mauritshuis Royal Picture Gallery building, where the famous painting by Jan Vermeer “Girl with a Pearl Earring” hangs. I will show you where the Queen of the Netherlands and the Grand Duchess of Luxembourg, Anne Pavlovna, lived. I will tell you about the secrets of the royal family and show where Willem-Alexander works.

The Hague-Behind The Scenes of The Royal City

Our tour will begin with The Hague's futuristic architecture. We'll find out how, despite its multistory buildings, The Hague remains one of the cosiest cities in the Netherlands. We'll learn about the most interesting buildings - each of them has a funny nickname. We will talk about what distinguishes them from similar buildings in any other city in the world, what the cities of the future will be like, and what surprising things are already hidden behind the facades of The Hague's homes, making them not only sustainable but also particularly comfortable to live in. We will travel back in time along the avenue of sculptures. We will see a real knight's castle and the most luxurious mansion in The Hague, which housed the famous painting called "Girl with a Pearl Earring". We will solve the mystery of a 180cm-wide house. See where the Dutch Parliament has worked (and still works) for centuries. We might even give the Prime Minister a wave! We will walk to the royal palaces (of which, there are many!) and see where the King works. We can taste some royal croquettes and the delicious pastries of The Hague's most famous baker, located in a place where the future and the past have merged.
