Such a wonderful experience. Perfect location for Kumado Kodo hikes and wonderful access to the Onsen. The food is amazing too and the hosts are so friendly! I’d 100% recommend and will stay again if I come back to Japan.

Coconuts Traditional Japanese Wooden Townhouse

MargaretRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
Natsu is a great host, si friendly and helpful. His house is beautiful, old style Japanese, tatami mats, shower and Japanese toilet. Effective air conditioning. We enjoyed his company and all ate together on our final evening. He helped with our travel arrangements and also lent us his bicycle which was really great as my daughter was touring with her bike but I didn't have one. Wakayama is an interesting and pretty coastal town, and we visited the original soy sauce brewery (thoroughly recommended), Wakayama Castle, lacquerware shops and ate local monja (a type of okonomiaki) and also the best pork ramen in Japan! Well worth a visit if you like to see places that are a little off the beaten tourist track.

A quiet inn full of sunlight, 10 minutes on foot from Kumano Hongu Taisha Shrine and the hot springs! The perfect inn for the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage and cycling

Super friendly host and very charming old Japanese-style house. Cooking in the outdoor kitchen was a fun experience! The cluttered outdoor area added to the charm of the place and Eiko-san, and inside the house it was tidy and fairly clean!:) The area is super quiet and you can hear lots of birds, overall a very relaxing place. Eiko-san also has lots of good recommendations for nearby activities! However, if you’re a tall person - like my boyfriend - be aware that the doors are made for smaller Japanese people back in the day… lots of head bumping and headache potential if not careful! Since the bathroom is fairly small I went for a bath in a nearby bathhouse, a very short walk and very very affordable.

Stay at a Tea Farmer's Inn in Kumano Hongu

ChristianRating, 5 stars4 months ago
What a fantastic place, the owners are both fantastic and they cook the best meals we had in our Japan holidays, you can see and feel the passion for what they do, they own a tea farm and their tea is really delicious, they are very accommodating and they will help you with anything, definitely worth every single dollar. Thank you again

I LOVED this place! Kazumasa and Nanako are awesome hosts! The area is so beautiful and peaceful. There’s yummy places to eat within walking distance. (Make sure to go the Frying pan bakery and get their curry pan! And go to Blooming cafe too!). I stayed two weeks at this Airbnb and they were the nicest hosts I’ve ever met! I accidentally left my iPad in the Shinkansen. I contacted Kazumasa and he immediately contacted JR and filled out a lost item report. In two days, I got it returned to me because of his help! I went to Katsuragi to rest. If you’re looking for a city vibe, this is NOT the place. But you want nice long strolls along the river or in the town, and you want to slow your mental pace, and chat with locals and experience a small town setting, then this is a must for u. Also if need a place to stay for a few nights to do some hiking or go to Koyasan, this is a perfect place. I am definitely going back!!! I felt so rejuvenated when I left! Sad I had to leave. I miss them!

Easy access from both train stations in wakayama through bus. There is also a sheltered walkway infront of the hotel which is convenient in the event of rain. The gentlemen’s room feels small to place bags and luggages.
