Bohemian spot for daytime bagels, salads and cakes, plus evening pizzas with live music and events. Not a wide range of selection but the food is well cooked and well presented tomato sandwich with chorizo and sausage at £6.50, and tastes like they use quality ingredients... great atmosphere with the option to join in with a scrabble game

Sightseeing

Panoramic views from high level walkways and behind-the-scenes access to original lifting machinery. Tower Bridge is a combined bascule and suspension bridge in London built in 1886–1894. The bridge crosses the River Thames close to the Tower of London and has become an iconic symbol of London. I never get tired to visiting and photographing it. Best time to visit it is around sunset when the lights come on. The bridge's website lists the times when the bridge opens to let the ferries go through it. So you can plan the visit if you're interested in seeing that

Centuries of bloody history around a medieval castle, home to Crown Jewels and iconic Beefeaters. The Tower of London, officially Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress of the Tower of London, is a historic castle located on the north bank of the River Thames in central London Of all the places to visit in central London I would put the Tower of London at the top of the list. The introductory tour when you arrive is included and well worth your time. The tour will help you organize you self guided exploration of this huge venue. The historical displays including the Crown Jewels and centuries of armour were quite impressive. Warning there's an awful lot of steps & staircases to get you where you wanna be. Serious workout! The size of this place requires about 3 hours to see everything.

16-storey Gothic clock tower and national symbol at the Eastern end of the Houses of Parliament. Big Ben is the nickname for the Great Bell of the clock at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London, and often extended to refer to the clock and the clock tower. Taking the tour was amazing. They make sure you're at the top during the hourly bell toll. They also stop along the way so you aren't doing all the steps up in one go. An experience not to be missed. The quintessential symbol of London for so many years. You haven't seen London without seeing the Big Ben.

This palace stands next to the remains of the original Eltham Palace, the childhood home of Henry VIII. This palace however is nothing like its predecessor. The new Eltham Palace is an Art Deco enthusiast’s dream. Built by the wealthy Courtauld family, the house is certainly indulgent; the gold plated bathroom is just one of the jaw dropping rooms you must see. Surrounded by beautiful gardens, a visit to Eltham Palace is the perfect spot for a picnic and to make the most of the sunny weather.

Submitted by: Rob Jones Built as a means of connecting two of the main venues used during the London 2012 Olympics – the O2 and the ExCeL exhibition centre - the Emirates Air Line is practical but also allows tourists to enjoy a unique ride with views across the Thames, particularly of the towers at Canary Wharf. Themed on an airliner, travellers get information on their ‘cruising’ height and of notable landmarks in sight, making it great for photographers. The experience really opens the area up, allowing users to view other attractions in the local area that wouldn’t have been seen from the ground.

Parks & Nature

A lake, sports facilities, gardens and a café, all set in spacious parklands created in the 1940s. Burgess Park is a public park situated in the London Borough of Southwark, in an area between Camberwell to the west, Walworth to the north, Bermondsey to the east and Peckham to the south. A great family park with facilities for kids of all ages, the play area is well catered to all kids and is often full at the weekends. There are some great BBQ areas with good views over the park. Get here early at the weekend to secure a BBQ spot though as they often get snapped up by large groups who take over more than one spot. The park is kept clean throughout the week and the grounds are well tended to.

Arts & Culture

Art gallery in Victorian building hosting temporary, cutting edge exhibition programme. The South London Gallery, founded 1891, is a public-funded gallery of contemporary art in Camberwell, London. Until 1992, it was known as the South London Art Gallery, and nowadays the acronym SLG is often used. Been to some shows hosted by art students here a few times and there's normally a great range of interesting art on show. Worth a visit if there is something on and you're nearby.

Significant collection of 17th-and-18th-century European Old Masters, in building by Sir John Soane. A lovely museum with some fascinating exhibitions to supplement their permanent collection. There's a nice cafeteria as well as gardens to sit in during the summer.

Tate Modern is a modern art gallery located in London. It is Britain's national gallery of international modern art and forms part of the Tate group. It is based in the former Bankside Power Station, in the Bankside area of the London Borough of Southwark. Tate holds the national collection of British art from 1900 to the present day. Such a marvellous museum from entrance to exit. The architecture itself is an experience. The expositions are well curated. Often a little bit crowded. Great shop. Helpful and interesting social media information. And damn good coffee too! Always check website for opening times.
