Your questions answered

What if I need to cancel because of an emergency?

If you have to cancel a reservation because of an emergency or an unavoidable reason, check if the reason is covered as an extenuating circumstance. If so, you’ll be able to waive any penalties and your cancellation won’t count against your Superhost eligibility.

Make sure to contact Airbnb to file a claim within 14 days after you cancel the reservation (or before your next guest arrives). You may be required to submit documentation for Airbnb to review.

Do I need to be hosting for at least a year to become a Superhost?

There is no minimum tenure to become a Superhost. As long as you meet all the criteria by the assessment period (which takes place every 3 months), you can earn Superhost status.

Every time we check that you’ve met the Superhost criteria, we look back over your past year of hosting to review your performance.

What’s the difference between Airbnb Plus and Superhosts?

Airbnb Plus is a program for homes that meet a high bar for quality and design.

On top of requirements for the homes themselves, hosts in the Plus program are expected to maintain Superhost-level standards of hospitality:

  • 4.8+ average overall rating over the past year
  • 0 cancellations in the past year (unless there were extenuating circumstances)

As a Superhost, how can I become a Plus host?

The Airbnb Plus program has eligibility requirements for hosts and their homes. Superhosts automatically meet the host requirements:

  • 4.8+ average overall rating over the past year
  • 0 cancellations in the past year (unless there were extenuating circumstances).

Each Plus home also has to meet program standards for being thoughtfully designed, well-equipped, and well-maintained. Private rooms and entire homes are eligible.

If you’re a Superhost and Airbnb Plus is available in your city, Airbnb may send you an invite to the program. Hosts who accept the invitation will have an in-person home visit to go through the checklist of requirements and receive extra resources, including professional photography.
