City advice

Book before you go

Alcatraz tours

If you're interested in Alcatraz, make sure to book a tour far in advance. The chance of getting last minute tickets is low.
Getting around

Car safety

While walking around in the city is safe, car break-ins arena problem. **Don't leave anything visible in your car!** We haven't had our car or our guests' cars broken into in our 4 years here.
Getting around

Uber and Lyft are fast and convenient

While you can certainly drive, often the hassle and parking lot fees aren't worth it. We suggest driving if you want to visit the greater Bay Area, but leaving your car here when you visit Downtown :)
What to pack

Layers layers layers!

The weather is generally mild but changes quickly from sunny to cloudy to windy to foggy and back again. Microclimates mean that going outside in any individual neighborhood might not tell you much about what it's like over the hill. Several lighter layers to take on and off are a better bet for most than heavy outerwear. Comfy shoes are a must to make the most of this beautiful walkable city full of hills and stairs!
Don't miss

Take a walk around the neighborhood

Bernal Heights may not be well-known outside of San Francisco, but is favored among SF locals. We hope you won't overlook it in favor of all the famous tourist spots. We are constantly hearing our guests say that they fell in love with our neighborhood after randomly taking a walk right from outside the house.
