Pioneertown is a historic town a winding, 4-mile (6.4 km) drive northwest to Pioneertown from Yucca Valley has been designated a California Scenic Drive and the area is now surrounded by private and federally protected lands. The town started in 1946 to provide an 1880s theme town for the movies, where hundreds of Westerns and early television shows were filmed. Downtown Pioneertown is open to the public, free of charge, 365 days a year. Mane Street Stampede Wild West Show is on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month at 2:30 PM in Pioneertown. It’s a free show of western gun-slingers for the whole family.
