Atmospheric remains of this isolated village lie on the eastern edge of Dartmoor. The settlement consists of a cluster of 13th century stone longhouses – in which the family lived at one end and the animals at the other – on land that was originally farmed in the Bronze Age. Hound Tor was probably deserted in the early 15th century. From the top of the Rocks, there is a fine view over the abandoned village and the surrounding moors. Look out for letter boxing.

Entertainment & Activities

An unusual type of superstore with plenty of bargains from DIY and toys to clothes. The garden centre has several themed areas for keen gardeners. Outside are activities that can end up being much better value that a traditional theme park as you only pay a small fee per activity. Soft play areas, speed boats, floating swans and fishing trawlers, diggers and go karts for all ages. The steam trains rides are particularly good value and there is a hug indoor miniature railway. Free of charge is a small farm / zoo which is quite nice. Choice of takeaways and bakeries.
