Coral Bay

St. John Coral Bay is a favorite destination on our Caribbean island. This flourishing area features a variety of relaxing beaches and delicious restaurants. Yet, it is a little quieter and more secluded than the bustling main village of Cruz Bay. When visiting St. John Coral Bay, you will discover gorgeous hills overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Along with sailors who live on their boats in the Coral Bay St. John harbor, donkeys, goats, and mongoose also call Coral Bay home. Discover the quirky “other town” on the island when you explore St. John Coral Bay!

This 1.8-mile strenuous trail begins at the east end of the Waterlemon Bay beach and ascends past historic sites on both sides of the trail. At the top of the first hill, a side trail on the left leads to a hilltop site with great views in all directions. The Johnny Horn Trail continues past the start of the Brown Bay Trail at 0.7 miles, to near the top of Base Hill where there are good views of Coral Bay. Also, at this point, there is a spur trail to the left that leads to the top of the hill with great views of Hurricane Hole and continues down to meet the main trail along the road. The main trail continues, following a road down to the paved road at the Moravian Church in Coral Bay. DURATION: Plan on two to four hours for this hike; more if connecting with other trails in the area.

City advice

Getting around

Directions to Johnny Horn Trail Eco House

Take R10E out of Cruz Bay to Coral Bay. When you arrive in Coral Bay you will see signs on the right and the roofless Moravian Church on your left. Turn left immediately after the church onto the Johnny Horn Trail. In 4WD take the Johnny Horn Trail road to the T-Junction. The new concrete road has two deep dips on it that you need to take slowly. You will be able to see the house through the trees on the right. It has a red roof and red shutters. Turn right at the T-Junction onto Rock Me Road. The driveway to the house is immediately on your right.
Customs and culture

Customs

It is customary to start with good morning, good day, good afternoon, or good evening when addressing others. It is important that everyone cover up in public places. Do not walk around in a bathing suit except while at the beach/pool. Throw away all trash in dumpsters or designated trash cans. DO NOT FEED THE ANIMALS! Do not honk at the animals to get them to move out of the road. Drive on the LEFT side of the road and pull over when vehicles are behind you and let them pass.
