The Cape Cod National Seashore is a national park with almost 40 miles of coastline. It's worth the drive for its historic lighthouses and excellent beaches (like Race Point Beach, Nauset Beach, Marconi Beach, & Cahoon Hollow.) One caveat: the big waves at Outer Cape beaches may not be suitable for small children.

City advice

Book before you go

Whale watching season starts in mid-April

Make a reservation for one of the many whale watch cruises. The season begins in mid-April as hundreds of whales migrate to their summer feeding grounds off the Cape Cod coast. The season ends in late October when the whales head south again for the winter. Sightings are very reliable, especially in the summer months.
