This is THE best place for Po Boys! There can be lines, but well worth it. They are known for their roast beef po boys, but a real po boy and the only way I every get one in my opinion, is fried shrimp with lettuce, tomato, mayo and ketchup.

This place has an AMAZING patio. It is in Lakeview, which is really cute and right across the park from us. Great margaritas. I lived in Texas for a long time, so as mexican food goes, not Texas quality, but certainly does the trick.

This is a favorite spot of ours to watch football and to hang out. They do have bar type food there, as well. Attached to the beer garden is their slightly more upscale Wine Garden with elevated food and wine list. You can bring your drinks and food across the venues. It does get very crowded (pre-covid) during football season. Also, during Feb.-June they offer delicious boiled crawfish on the weekends. This is where we love to get boiled crawfish and we are LA natives. Check their Facebook page for details on availability.

Another fave patio that is kitty corner from Bayou Beer/Wine garden. It is located on the Green belt, so you can rent a bike at city park, then make a pit stop here for a drink. They also offer Crawfish during season, but Bayou Beer Garden's is cheaper and just as good. Wrong Iron only offers on Friday's and Sunday's in the past so check their availability.

We love this spot for fresh oyster's and seafood. Right on the lake with gorgeous sunset views. They have an awesome raw oyster happy hour during the weekdays (Friday included). Along with live music, frozen cocktails and bag toss, as well.

Activities

This is a FREE disc golf course. We have two sets of Frisby golf sets available for your use. It is within walking distance from the house, but we usually just drive to it. Pack a small ice chest with beer to bring with you and try your hand at "Frolfing." There is no one their to monitor or check in, so walk it at your own pace. There is one sign at the beginning with a map.

If you like to golf, this is one of the best places to golf and is affordable from my understanding. Not sure if they offer rentals, you would need to call. About a 3 minute drive from the house.

Rent kayaks and explore the canals along the Bayou St. John. Beware, you might even see a few alligators along the way (rare, but they are still there). There's another place along the bayou by city park that is not listed on google maps. I'd recommend driving along Wisner BLVD by City Park and you can see them set up sometimes.

brunch suggestions

Love this brunch spot. Local favorite right down the street with the BEST food. Pre-Covid, was very busy after 10a. There's not a bar to wait at and not really a waiting area, so we drive over there, put our names down, drive back home and they call when it's our turn. Or there is Caddy Shack's, which is a bar that some people grab bloody mary's at while waiting.

We go here a lot for brunch, as it also has vegan friendly options, which is hard to find in the city. It's on Feret which has a bunch of food places and is a little further from the house. This is BYOB!!! We bring our own champagne and buy their fresh squeezed orange juice for mimosas.

Want some cajun meats to grill at our place or take home? Go here! My go-to are the stuffed chickens.

If you are looking for wild caught, fresh raw seafood Deanie's has a market next door. There are a couple of other seafood markets near Deanie's that are comparable. Their restaurant is pretty good too. I go there for boiled blue crabs in the summer, as the are hard to find in the city.
