Family

This is a very unique spot, a farm in the middle of the city. It is a donation basis farm, so if you do enjoy please do pop a few coins in the cow box on your way out. It's such a tranquil spot and 5 minutes walk from the apartment. There is a vegetable patch, a herb garden, animals, play park and a cafe. We visited lots as adults and now with our son.

Walks

Our local park, turn left when you leave the flat and left at the junction, walk up the hill and you will arrive at the park in less than 5 minutes. Tip - the park is a quad unoffical set up is: 1) no dogs / herb garden gated area (Top left) 2) Foot ball pitch (Bottom right) 3) Dog hang out (Bottom left) 4) Sunbathing / Play park (Top right) If you walk through the park you get to the canal, which is a lovely walk to the right out of the city or to the left into the city via a car free route.

We like to use the canal to walk into the city, it's not the quickest - but an extra few minutes detour allows for a lovely car free and tranquil walk into tollcross / lothian road. At the start is a bar with a big beer garden - Akva. There is lots of house boats along way, rowers, swans, cyclists. (Round trip 30mins) Keep going away from the city and you come to a cool viaduct and on your way back you can see lovely views of the city / castle / pentlands. (Round trip 60 mins) I don't usually go further than this unless your using bikes.

A local that couldn't get any closer! Great range of scottish beers and ales and the food is gastro pub style. it has been hit or miss at times on service and quality, but the pure convenience keeps us going. Usually have a pub quiz weekly and in usual times live music

Neighbourhoods

lovely community spot with lots of hustle and bustle. You will find a community run greengrocer for fruit and veg which we support, butchers, fish counter and a few delis and bakeries. Bruntsfield is full of cafes, and small independent boutiques and gift shops. there is only one bar here, it's mainly food and shops. Bar and restaurant is Montpelliers, they usually have good deals midweek on so check out their website for deals before booking. some of our favourites are: cafe grand for brunch, they also do a good dinner menu honeycomb - cakes are in the 'woah' category piecebox - brunch, lunch, cakes
