a must visit town. Very close to the house and a beautiful drive through the countryside to get there. My favorite town in the area and one of my favorites in all of Italy. Outdoor concerts along the ancient walls of the city with big names (Lucca Summer Fest). Climb the Giunigi tower and be sure to have a walk along the historic city walls surrounding the city.

Pietrasanta is a beautiful art town, very famous throughout Italy. It is home of the famous artist ‘Botero’. Many artists live here. Park your car just outside the town and walk up and down the main roads, dipping in and out of galleries. Have an aperitivo in the main square.

Beaches

My favorite beach in the area. It’s usually not very crowded at all and very wild, with lots of forest and driftwood. Drive to Migliarino. Once arrived, right before the sign with ‘Migliarino’ written on it, turn right under the under pass. Take this road all the way to the sea. Park in the large paid parking area, then follow the river all the way to the beach (about 10 minutes). Once at the beach, I recommend walking a little to the right where the beach opens up a little bit and it might be less crowded.

Great public beach not far from the house. Park the car at ‘Villa Borbone’ then walk through the forest to get to the beach. The forest is part of a natural reserve park so it’s very green, lush, and beautiful.

Hiking

Nearby hiking trails and towns to walk to from just outside the front door of the home
A great walking trail is from the house to Peralta. The trail is just below the main house (take a right outside the gate instead of walking through the village). Peralta is the neighboring village you can see from the house, to the right, with the tower (and bougainvillea in the summer). I highly recommend a walk there. It was home to the famed English-Italian sculptor Fiore de Henriquez and all throughout the tiny medieval villages you will see beautiful gardens, ancient homes and architecture, and her sculptures throughout. A fabulous art and nature visit.

Sightseeing

You tour the Grotta Del Vento (the cave of the wind), a 9 km long cave that leads through a series of underground abysses, lakes and caverns carved out by water beneath the Alpuan Alps (but no swimming or thermal hot springs). That is about an hour and a half drive from the house. This is something that the whole family can enjoy. Look up pictures to see how incredible it is!
