Parks

Knoll Park is your closest park and is just a couple of minutes away. Walk down Maytree Walk, cross Rowan Avenue and head down the wide alley into the park. There is a children’s play park off to the left as well as a big field for sports / dog walks etc.

Hove Park is the biggest park in the area. It is about a 20 minute walk away. When activities are back up and running, there is a Park Run on Saturday (adults) and Park Run Junior (kids) on Sunday. If you go to either, make sure you do not park outside TKMaxx (opposite on the Goldstone Retail Estate) as it is private parking for people using the store. We got a parking ticket for just parking and then going across to join the kids run.

Sightseeing

Hove Lawns is not officially a park but it has a big green space and it is just next to the beach – nature’s playground. Lots of people picnic here and throw a ball around.

Sheer white cliffs and lighthouses. You could incorporate a trip into Eastbourne which is like an old-fashioned Brighton.

Pubs and restaurants

- This pub is in the oldest building in Hove and is an easy walk from the house (15 minutes). It has a big outdoor garden with lots of play space. It’s a lovely option for a sunny day. Inside it has a dining room and a small bar area. It is a Hall and Woodhouse pub now and the menu is typical pub grub.

This new restaurant on the seafront is not open yet but there are some pop-up beach-huts serving drinks / coffees etc and the seating area on the front is lovely. It’s right on the beach and so the kids can play while the adults watch with wine!

I was involved in the build of this - it's a fascinating piece of engineering and offers great views of the city, sea and Downs. It also has function space below where there are often interactive events taking place.

nice beach and a place to wander around. You can also bike from here up to Bramber Castle. Shoreham airport also has a lovely art deco restaurant that overlooks the runway. It used to entertain our kids for hours watching the planes.

City advice

Getting around

Bike theft

Please be aware that bike theft in Brighton is rife. If you do bike anywhere, make sure you have good locks!
Getting around

Buses vs cars

Parking in Brighton is expensive and difficult to come by. The cheapest option is the Churchill Square car park but it will have a long queue. Buses are MUCH easier.
