The Yasaka Shrine is one of the many beautiful shrines found across the city of Kyoto. Tourists and Japanese citizen flock to it regularly. Though it may be a bit busy, it is still a gorgeous site. According to the legend of the shrine, its history may go back as far as 150 years before the Heian era, AC656 (the second year of the reign of Emperor Seimei).

The shrine sits at the base of a mountain also named Inari which is 233 meters above sea level, and includes trails up the mountain to many smaller shrines which span 4 kilometers and takes approximately 2 hours to walk up. The man path through the many Torii is crowded and frequented by tourists, but once you can break off onto a smaller path, you will have a wonderful time with peace and quiet in the sea of bamboo forests.
