expansive outdoor enclave on the East River, buttressed between the Hellgate and RFK Bridges. There is a wonderful outdoor public pool in the summertime, but make sure to read up on the rules before you go (must have a combination lock, swimsuit with lining, nothing allowed on pool deck besides towel/water bottle/book…)

Our local spot for no-nonsense; quality beers with capable bartenders who can handle a cocktail properly. Bonus points for the backyard and bring-your-own-food policy. Nick Spaceman or Willy might be your bartenders and they are our friends!

Simple, dark... a real bar! Also low-key one of the best music venues in NYC (every Monday with The Adam Platt Trio, every Tuesday with The Subtonics, other programming can be found via its Facebook or by the posters on the wall). If your bartender is a tall loveable grump, that is Mike; if its a Frank Zappa-looking dude with long curly hair, that’s Heavy Metal Chris!

Restaurant and bar from the same folks as Sweet Afton, but with a sizable and comfy outdoor space. They usually have a DJ on Friday night. If Ziggy is your bartender (Scottish gent with a bald head), you can tell him that I sent you!

Local Breweries

The big kids on the block, with national distribution and a growing story. The taproom is a little bit out of the way, but is a big and wonderful place, always spinning good records. If you encounter a really funny and kinda snotty beertender named Jordan, you can tell him you are staying at my place! He is family!
