The Restaurant at Helsinki Hudson carries on a 15-year tradition started at the wildly popular former location in Massachusetts - that is of creating a menu of creative homespun seasonally selected food in a welcoming and beautiful atmosphere. Executive Chef Hugh Horner takes his inspiration from the creative spirit of Helsinki, his love of the bountiful Hudson Valley, and his southern ancestry to create a Rustic New American cuisine with a knack for making the familiar extraordinary. From his roots in Georgia, the Carolinas and Louisiana, Chef Hugh, brings to the table his Low Country roots cuisine, with his years as an early pioneer in the Williamsburg, Brooklyn Food movement to Helsinki, and offers affordable comfort food like nothing else around. Live music all the time!

The Crimson Sparrow builds on all of John’s reverence and experience in cooking with Asian flavors utilizing French technique. The Crimson Sparrow’s Tasting Menu is a foray into all of these complex, rich and unexpected flavors. It changes approximately every two to three weeks, to reflect seasonality. In addition, some of the best elements of the seasonal menu can be sampled at the bar as part of the restaurant’s a la carte menu all of which have a true pact with the cellar and beverage program.

Politics before the Civil War was a whirlwind of opposing interest groups. Martin Van Buren was able to unite those groups becoming president in 1837, but he was unable to gain a second term. As frustration and violence over the extension of slavery grew in the 1840's, Van Buren ran for the presidency twice more from this house. He hoped for re-election but he failed; ultimately so did the union.
