Exploring Port Fairy

Sightseeing

Tower Hill Wildlife Reserve is the site of an extinct Volcano, and is only 15 min drive from Port Fairy. The reserve offers both guided and self-guided tours to admire the volcano, old lava flow, wetlands, birdlife and Aboriginal heritage of the area. You may also spot koalas, emus, kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas, turtles and possums. There is a large picnic/bbq area – ps don’t feed the animals!

Because of its historic and archaeological significance, the island has been listed on the Victorian Heritage Register. There is a short (25 min) walk along the track to the Lighthouse, or a 75 minute loop walk around the entire Island. It really is a beautiful walk. See how many black wallabies you can spot.

Watch the Shearwater birds come in at dusk (Sept-April). These amazing birds migrate 15,000 km to Port Fairy each year. Watch the Shearwater birds come in from feeding on the open sea, to their nest to feed their young – there is a special viewing platform at Griffiths Island.

This magnificent beach seems to go on forever.... Explore at your leisure, and if you get thirsty or hungry, drop in for a coffee at Charlie’s on East – great views.
