Parks & Nature

The best hike to take straight from Moonglades is to head out the east side (follow the road the goes up the hill from the greenhouse). Take that road up and follow it when it turns into a trail. It will take you up onto the plateau, where you can follow a trail or hike off-trail. It’s a wide-open playground up there, very pretty.

Beautiful white rock formations and easy hiking trail. From Moonglades: Head out past the dam and turn right onto 84E. After about 5.8 miles (after the Abiquiu Elementary School, but before Bode's) turn LEFT on County Road 155. After about 2.3 miles turn left. There is a large wooden gateway with the words "Dar Al Islam" . Through the gateway is a dirt track which you take for about 0.6 miles until there is a fork in the road and you want to take the right fork towards Plaza Blanca (the left goes to the Dar Al Islam Mosque and Education Center). Park here and hike the remaining quarter mile into the valley. http://www.plaza-blanca.com/about.html
