The views in the morning were stunning and we all loved the cake they left for us at the venue. Thank you so much for accommodating us!

A Unique Waterside Village - Tollesbury A land of big skies, sweeping vistas, bleak salt marshes with the only sound heard being that of the crying birds. Tollesbury has a totally unspoilt beauty which offers a sense of isolation; walk along the sea wall and you will not have another person within view just the open water, sheep and cattle on the marshes, the occasional distinctive colours of an Essex barge on the estuary and the white sails of boats tacking on the current. It is easy to imagine the seafaring past, the barges up and down with cargo, the oyster fisherman and the fishing boats going out along the mud flats. We’ll turn a blind eye to the smugglers! Today Tollesbury is also a thriving village with a true sense of community. We have a small industrial estate which provides jobs, we’ve kept local shops so can be totally self-sufficient and the village is large enough to support our local primary school. We also have a thriving boat yard and marina. You could sail round to us! It is an mini deal break away from the London, or for those wishing to see the unspoilt Essex coast line. Let the stresses and strains of everyday leave you as you enter Tollesbury! So, we think it is a very special place but try not to shout too loud as we don’t want everyone here.
  • Second time staying here and again cannot fault it.

  • Full 5 star rating for this host. For the price, you expect a highway running on one side of the house and a budy railroad on the other, but no - this place is in a very nice and quiet area of the world. NIce, clean space - very thoughtful host - everything on the ground floor, private entrance - everything you could dream of. Would def. stay here again.

  • Thank you Val. Excellent hostess and a pleasurable stay.

  • Valerie's home is a dream such good value for money and she is so thoughtful. The bonus is the beach is so close, we bbqd most nights and there is a fantastic Indian restaurant within walking distance. Great for star gazing, we saw some fantastic shooting stars! Valerie left little trays of goodies each morning which was totally unexpected and such a nice touch. Anyone booking here would not be disappointed we can't thank Valerie enough for her hospitality and letting us stay at her lovely home. There is lots to see and do locally and fantastic if you like walking, cycling or running. We will be back. Warmest regards Lisa and Rick

  • Valerie’s place is a great place to unwind, quiet, spotlessly clean, lovely lounge area, outside space with table and chairs. 3 mins to the waters edge, lovely walk to the pub, we were attending a wedding and getting ready at Valerie’s place was home from home, great shower, plenty of soft towels. Valerie also recommended a pub for dinner and it didn’t disappoint. Valerie certainly goes the extra mile with a smashing home made cake left in the room for us. We felt like we had left with a new friend.

  • We had a Lovely stay, a cosy room with everything you need in Fiona’s enchanting home. Great to be able to share a little space on the farm with all the amazing animals. Hope to return soon. Especially loved the Highland cattle there in the farm. Can recommend the food at the kings head. Also worth a look down the Green man as they are so close to the sea wall.

    Shelley2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • This is the second time I have stayed at Fiona's farm, and it was another lovely stay. Fiona and her mother are both so welcoming, and it feels like one is a part of their family during the stay. The blue room is so large and has a great feeling to it. The vegan breakfast was yummy, and it was nice seeing the beautiful herd of Highland cows on this visit too. The location is super convenient for the Crystal Therapy course that we took in Bradwell on Sea, being only 3 minutes away by car. The welcome at Fiona's is always so heartfelt, and I so admire all of the hard work they all put in to help safeguard animals in need. I hope more and more people will come to stay at Fiona's to experience their hospitality.

Just 5 minutes walk to sea wall, 10 minutes to sailing club, 4 miles from historic town of Maldon, close to Heybridge Basin and Tollesbury. Two double bedrooms available.
My home has two double rooms to let and is ideal for anyone seeking a short quiet break or visiting friends/family in the area. The ground floor room is a bright and comfortable room with window facing front garden. The shower room and toilet/washroom is just along the hallway. In your room you have a kettle, toaster and sandwich toaster. I provide tea, coffee, sugar and milk plus cornflakes and museli. You have hanging space for clothes and drawers. The host prefers visitors seeking to visit the area and its amenities who want a leisurely relaxed break. The room is located within my home, there is no separate entrance or access other rooms in the house, I therefore do not give out the house key will be available when you arrive and leave my home I kindly request that people looking at booking to stay in my home are not planning to be out very late or leaving before 7am. I am happy to answer any concerns you may have if you are planning to book and need to leave earlier. Throughout your stay check in time is after 5pm and leave time by 10am, however I am happy to be flexible on this if I can be.
This village is highly renowned for its peaceful traditional beauty. Most properties fall within a conservation area. It has a lovely church and 2 pubs. It has direct access out by country roads to larger locations such as Maldon, Colchester and Chelmsford.
  • This is a perfect base. We had an event at Five Lakes Resort and Jackie's place was only a 10 minute drive away, easy to get to and perfect if you'll be out all day. Jackie made herself available for arrival times that suited us, within the boundaries she outlined on the advert. We had fresh milk every day, and biscuits and cereals to eat. Jackie was very welcoming, offering everything we could need while we still had our own space. Bathroom facilities were great - the downstairs room has its own shower room available so we weren't sharing with anyone. Really great value for money, and if we're in the area we'll definitely stay again!

  • Fantastic experience all round. Car parking off road was available and the location is very quiet which meant an undisturbed sleep. Jackie's home is immaculate and the room is really good. The bed was so comfortable and access to own shower and toilet just along the hallway. The village pub is close by for meals and everyone was very friendly. Definitely stay again.

  • This is a lovely part of Essex which we'd never visited before. Highlights were: a walk round the Dengie peninsula including St Peter's Chapel. We also loved the friendly cosy pub, The Green Man, which is next door. We also enjoyed visiting Southend, Colchester and Maldon. The decommissioned Bradwell Power Station and Ross Revenge, the former Radio Caroline ship moored in the estuary add to the atmosphere of this specialpart of the world. Thank you Chris and Trevor - fine hosts you are.

  • This is a perfect place to stay! Everything was thought of; from biscuits in the hot drinks tray, orange juice in the fridge, a folder with local info, I really couldn't find a single fault. There were even cosy dressing gowns! Our room overlooked their garden and it's honestly the prettiest one I've seen, they've poured their heart and soul into this place and it shows. 100% recommend staying there. We'll be back 💃

The accommodation was full of personal touches, a real home from home. Had it’s own garden and outdoor seating too. Lots of local tips from our hosts which we followed. Mersea is well worth a visit, a real community spirit can be felt. We would absolutely recommend staying at Charlie’s.

  • We stayed at Teresa and Ray’s for the weekend when came to Bradwell-on-Sea to do a triathlon. It was a fab stay! Teresa was quick to reply from the get go. Our room was lovely, very clean with tea and coffee and an en suite! Teresa and Ray were so welcoming and very relaxed. Even gave us a cheer in the triathlon. It was lovely to meet them and spend some time in their home. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to visit the area!

Nothe cottage is situated in a unique setting, overlooking a beautiful estuary which is very popular with wildlife and water sports enthusiasts . The cottage is west facing and ideal for relaxing on the terrace in the sunshine from mid morning onwards. The sunsets are often breathtaking.
30 feet from the foreshore , west facing , unblocked vista across the tidal estuary and fields beyond .

  • Stunning views, very quiet, ideally located. Such a great trip. Check in was easy and loads to do on the doorstep.

  • Cosy small house, very close to the sea side. Will be coming again!

    Mario2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Super cozy cottage on the quieter end of Mersea. Perfect location for The Company Shed, pubs and great walks. Over looks the estuary so morning cup of tea watching the boats and going to sleep to the sound of the sea makes this one of the best stays on the island. Parking round the corner but useful stop off near cottage to unload. Loved it.

    Vicky2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Hamish's place on Mersea is a perfect escape from the busy city. A lovely little self-contained cottage right on the edge of the estuary, with wonderful views over the mudflats - perfect for bird watchers, or people just wanting to enjoy the tide-driven changes in the landscape. Situated close to the seafood shacks and other restaurants, there are good eating options close at hand. Highly recommended for couples, avid twitchers, and people needing to escape the urban for a more rural retreat.

    Matthew2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Hamish's cottage is absolutely charming. Ideally placed to spend a few days discovering the island, eat seafood and live according to the tides (pay attention to timetables so that you can arrive and leave quietly)

    Marie2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • Great little place, really cosy and fantastic location right on the water! Hamish was great and also let us check in early-thank you!

  • We came to stay at this wonderful farm with my two girls for a weekend. We only decided that morning! It is a beautiful place in the countryside with loads of rescued animals. Clean and comfortable beds, fantastic value for money. Nice and quiet at night, very respectful and caring towards animals and the environment, which is very important to me. I love they’re vegan, I am vegetarian myself but it started to make me think about being a vegan now 🙂 I love that we could support the great cause slightly and I’m very grateful we could stay at this amazing farm. Thank you for having us x

We enjoyed the very comfy and homely rafters room with en suite bathroom and were particularly pleased how totally quiet it was all night. A lovely B&B from which to explore the area.

Whether you’re get up and go types or would rather relax than rush, you’ll find Mersea has something to suit everyone’s taste and pace. Just take a short stroll from the cottage and you’ll discover a delightful esplanade and beach, two rather nice pubs, cafe’s, a yacht club and the famous seafood eateries. You’ll hear the bells ringing out from the sailing boats and see kids enthusiastically crabbing from the jetty. We fell head over heels in love with Mersea and hope you will too.
We’d like to extend a warm welcome to Woodbine Cottage, furnished with your comfort in mind and equipped to make sure you enjoy every moment of your stay.
Although a small estuary island, Mersea has proved itself a picturesque magnet for couples and families, indeed anyone who loves fresh from the sea delicacies, wants to get away from it all and feels like enjoying island life. Approached by a causeway from the mainland, cut off at spring high tide, and just about eight square miles, Mersea offers a unique getaway.
  • Helen's place was very clean, cosy and comfortable. Its in an ideal location on the island, minutes walk away from Tescos, The Gilt Room (where we had a lovely meal) and several take aways. We'd stay again when visiting relatives. Thanks. x

    Clare2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely nights stay in Georginas beautiful Chalet. It was immaculately clean and stylish as in the photo. The bathroom was spacious and immaculate, and there was even an ice bucket with a cold beer and some soft drink, waiting for us by the front door! My only observation, and this is not a criticism, is that it would have been nice to have some basic cooking facilities, maybe a microwave, toaster and a hot plate. However it was made quite clear when booking. There was an electric kettle and coffee and tea bags, and sugar... and even a complimentary bag of sweets which was a lovely touch. It is a beautiful place and easy walking distance to cafes, and the fish restaurants and the beach and quayside. Strongly recommended , and Georgie was lovely. Many thanks for a great stay. We will definitely come back!

Fishers Rest is a beautiful period fisherman's cottage on Coast Road overlooking the Blackwater Estuary. It is one of three terraced cottages and is the end of terrace. Set back off the road, it is very quiet and tranquil whilst enjoying wonderful sea views. It is ideally suited for a couple as the rooms are quite small but the beauty of it is that it is within short walking distance of the shops in the village and the anchorage where the pubs/bars and restaurants are.
    Very close to the beach
Situated at the edge of the Anchorage with good access to bars and restaurants.

You are welcome to stay in our three bedroom house located in the heart of West Mersea within a few minutes walking distance to the main attractions, shops and the seaside. Bran's Estate comprises a cosy dining room and a generous kitchen on the ground floor, with a table for 6 people, along with a wood stove. The kitchen contains appliances necessary for self catering. The first floor has three large bedrooms and a spacious bathroom with power shower (no bath).
All your needs are catered for within a few minutes walk from the property. A local Tesco, deli and local newsagents provide a great variety of food and drink, with Chinese, Indian and traditional fish & chips within easy reach for those less keen to cook at home. The beach is 7 minutes away, with the local hard and boatyards a comfortable walk along the coast road where more restaurants and the Victory Pub can be found. Ask us about our sailing experiences. Our sailing yacht is available for hire.
The property is located in a conservation area. To see the next 7 days tide information search for mersea tide times in your internet browser. Confirmed guests can see local attractions in the interactive map on the listing. Don't forget to ask us about our sailing experiences. Our yacht is available for hire.
  • We had a lovely nights stay. Nice and close to the sea - had a lovely walk along the beach. Fish and chips from the chippe a few doors down really nice. Thank you!

  • Lovely and compact house with a great wood burning stove. We’re a family of five so we enjoyed the fact that the bedrooms were quite large. The shower is modern with good water pressure. All in all a great place with a convenient location to the local shops, eateries and the beach.

    Anne2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Great location - perfect for everything in West Mersea as it's all walkable. Nice space for a family. Definitely recommend.

    David2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • This property was just as lovely as the other reviews stated. The relaxing space downstairs was safe little small but there is a large dining table and the biggest bedroom has two sofas which is a lovely place to sit and chat. A short wall to the sea and it was a chilly weekend so we enjoyed a coffee and cake at a lovely cafe a few minutes away and then sat in front of the log burner for the evening. The property is practically next door to takeaways and shops but there is no noise. Thanks again

  • Great place. Great value for money

    Lara2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place with lots of added extras. All rooms were warm and cosy on arrival, fast WiFi (kids very happy!), local to shops & restaurants. Would recommend & would be happy to stay again!

    Donna2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • We was very impressed with the accomadition, they had stocked the kitchen and bathroom with the basics that might be needed, also had a nice box of chocolates waiting on arrival which was also very nice, all bedroom where great very modern and large. Bathroom was very spacious and the shower was great. All in all we could not fault it.

    James2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • We went to Mersea Island for a wedding and needed a place to stay for our family. Tony and Mas were very friendly and accommodating They responded to every single question we had within minutes. The place is as described, perfect location, nice little touches as tea, coffee and milk for it make such a difference. We had breakfast in and could either buy what we needed from a Tesco express (a short walk) or there is also a convenience store just opposite the house. The kitchen is very well equipped with pretty much anything you might need. Plenty of coffee places and restaurants around too if you don't cook. Parking for 1 car is provided and we had no issues parking the other car either on the road.

  • We loved this place! Was the perfect weekend getaway. Ann and David were the perfect hosts - left us a bottle of fizz and were kind enough to take our Asda delivery we’d sent there into the cottage and unpacked it. Mersea is calm, with lovely walks, and the coast inn, 3 mins walk away, does fab food. Bathroom is exceptional - huge shower and huge freestanding bath. The cottage is attached to their house so good to know they’re around if you need anything. And even better, it was great value last minute booking! Thanks very much Ann and David.

  • We had wonderful relaxing stay in this delightful hideaway in an atmospheric coastal village on Essex coast. No detail has been left unthought of from the bottle of fizz in the fridge to the dog treats for my friend’s labradoodle. David and Ann were kind, welcoming and accommodating. We loved every minute and can’t recommend more highly.

  • This was my second time at Clare's Beach house and yet again it didn't disappoint. We had a wonderful time, even had the doors open all day and night so we could listen to the sea. we didn't leave the house for the whole weekend. It was a real treat. Was a shame the main shower wasn't working but it was a good excuse to make use of the bath. Four very happy guests. Thank you

    Danielle2019-11-24T00:00:00Z

A couple to visit; The Coast Inn, The Oyster bar. For a little treat on the water Lady Grace Boat trips are a fantastic way to see the Island for all its beautiful scenery. Or maybe Venture a bit further into Colchester town for the day to visit Colchester Castle park or the award winning Colchester Zoo Or maybe a day trip to Tiptree Jam Factory. The apartment is within walking distance of the beach, local shops are very convenient and the cafe below is great (you can’t hear any noise from the cafe in the apartment). We’d recommend this apartment to anyone staying on Mersea Island.

    Dean2019-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice stay in Rosie's apartment. Full of charm, well equipped and very comfortable, the duplex is located a few hundred meters from the center of Mersea West. The small town is endearing and is full of shops nearby. Once in Mersea Island, do not miss The Company Shed and The Oyster Bar, two great places to sample seafood and fish. A very nice stay in an unknown region of England.

This beautiful Grade II listed cottage built in 1600 boasts all of its original features, with a decor that has been updated to allow a fresh, coastal feel and retaining the coziness of a low ceiling-ed, exposed beamed cottage. With Estuary Views from the house and large rear garden the cottage is positioned within the historic "Old City" part of the Island with its many pubs and restaurants. It sleeps six in three bedrooms, and has plenty of cosy entertaining space, with a large eat in kitchen.
If you are above 6ft 3" you will not fit into this cottage as its ceilings in the main living area are very low, but we feel it adds to its charm. The kitchen and master bedroom in contrast are later additions to the house and so have full height ceilings. This is a house that has evolved over the years and has a story to tell if only walls could talk! With a fully equipped modern kitchen and bathrooms you will not have to suffer the inconveniences of period living but instead get a taste for the life of a fisherman that would have fished on the island hundreds of years ago, with all the modern day comforts! The house has a large rear garden with beautiful views out towards the estuary and a small jetty where at high tide access can be gained to the water, for watersports. At the front there is a large driveway with parking for several cars. The house is situated at the end of a long private driveway servicing just 5 houses all tucked away in the "Old City" part of the village also known as The Anchorage due to the Sailing/Yacht Clubs and Chandlers. This means that although the position is very secluded, quiet and peaceful you are never more than a few minutes walk from places to eat the lovely seafood on offer or drink in the local pubs. A few more minutes walk will take you to the centre of the village where you will find everything you need. With a top quality butchers, post office, bank, shops and supermarkets, it means that once you have arrived, you'll never need to leave the Island again till its time to go home! Mersea Island is rapidly growing a reputation as a "foody haven", and just a few moments walk from Crabtree Cottage you will find the famous Company Shed. From this small "shed" by the waters edge you can eat freshly caught seafood moments out of the water. People trek from London to this unpretentious eatery each weekend to experience the fresh seafood on offer, its reputation is spreading so wide. There are plenty of other high quality, again unpretentious venues to eat the local seafood or other foody delights on offer, all accessed just a few minutes walk directly from the house. No need to take the car, just walk and have as many drinks as you like! Maybe sample each of the Mersea Island Breweries beers or Mersea Vineyard wines!
There’s a distinct sense of adventure about a trip to Mersea Island. Approached by a causeway from the mainland, cut off at high spring tide, and just eight miles square, it’s a place you have to plan to get to. It’s also a place with two quite different faces. Most visitors head straight for West Mersea, firmly oyster territory and the island’s undisputed capital, with its shops, guesthouses and restaurants. Pleasures here are simple: relaxing on the beach, crabbing from the jetties, watching the activity at the boat-repair yards, taking in the dramatic, wide skies and estuary views, and, of course, feasting on fresh native oysters. Sailing is a huge part of island life and the waters here are brimming with boats of every shape and size as well as the colourful sails of windsurfers and kitesurfers. With its calm, shallow waters, it’s a great place to try out a watersport at first hand or come along for the annual Town Regatta (August), which has been running for over 170 years. Aside from the sailing classes, the regatta includes a number of novelty races as well as a ‘Walk the Greasy Pole’ competition, and is great fun for families. In sharp contrast, diminutive East Mersea, with its church, pub and village store, is not much more than a hamlet. It is does however have Cudmore Grove Country Park. Here you can blow away the cobwebs with a walk along the seawall, while keeping an eye out for species of migrating birds, or enjoy the new children's adventure playground or picnic on the grassland overlooking the sea. The park also has a small beach or you can take in the watery views by hopping on the little foot ferry that wends its way to Brightlingsea and Point Clear.
  • We love this place! So cozy, stylish, comfortable and quirky - with everything needed for any eventuality. The setting is beautiful and the cottage is perfectly located just strides from the boats. Very calm and peaceful for a really chilled break. Would like to return in summer but perfect in February too

  • A beautiful old style cottage situated in the most stunning location. A real home from home for us whilst we visited family close by. We were welcomed with a lovely welcome pack of food to get us started, which was a lovely touch. All the cottage details were as described in Vanessa's pre-stay email. I would definitely recommend this beatuful this property for a stay in Mersey.

  • Great location ... fantastic views and a super cosy cottage .

  • Our stay at Crabtree cottage was wonderful, the old house is full of charm and character. The garden with the views were superb for watching the beautiful sunsets. The beds were comfortable, as were the sofas, the cottage is well equipped and has everything you could possibly need for a relaxing family break. The location is great, just a pleasant short stroll to all the restaurants, watersports etc. We spotted a beautiful red squirrel near the house, the fresh fish and seafood were sublime, and the kids and dogs loved swimming in the water and crabbing at sunset. This was the first time we have visited West Mersea for a holiday and we all loved it. We met the hosts, Vanessa and Jonty during our stay who were very helpful and friendly. Thank you.

  • Lovely visit to the cosy Crabtree cottage which had beautiful views and setting. Vanessa was fantastic at communication and giving clear instructions which was much appreciated. We were greeted by a few lovely treats, our two children were quick to explore the 400 year old cottage with its great charm and feel. The cottage had a lovely sunny garden and well equipped kitchen with everything you need. The living room was relaxing and full of character. We used all three bedrooms, our favourite was downstairs but the two children loved the secret staircase up to the two inter joining bedrooms with wonky floors and pitched roof. The cottage is within minutes from the beach, pubs and restaurants. Our favourite was the Company shed and The Coast. The children loved the crabbing. Great stay if you are expecting a quaint old cottage full of character and it quirks. I’m 6’3’ and coped fine, a few bangs on the low beams but i knew what to expect before I booked! Thank you Vanessa

    West Mersea, England, United Kingdom

Beautiful, coastal chalet-style detached house, less than five minutes walk from the gorgeous West Mersea coastline, famed for it's scenery, sailing, walks and bird-watching and oyster bars. It's a light, spacious, comfy, warm, spotlessly clean and well furnished holiday home with a well-established and totally private garden, including garden furniture for sitting outside on beautiful days. Large, bright triple-aspect living room, beautiful oak farmhouse kitchen and two double bedrooms.
Our cosy home is in a lovely village, with good-sized, very private gardens to relax in, and days of countryside and beach walks on isolated paths and tracks and oceanside. Supermarkets deliver to this address. Lots of takeaway, deli and delivery food available too. Two TVs to watch. The house is clean, spacious, very bright with lots of big windows, all day sunshine pouring in, and has a beautiful, mature, very private garden. Suitable for holidays or for longer stays for work, etc. Just ask us if a longer stay is possible. Two double bedrooms with fantastically comfortable beds, one is king size, one is a double. Electric blankets on both beds. Light, sunny bathroom with bath and over-bath new shower fitted. Just a very short walk to the beaches and boats of West Mersea. https://www.facebook.com/MerseaIsland/ Has off street parking for 2 cars. Please note - the house does not have an internet connection. There's large TV in the lounge and another decent sized one in the dining room. There's also a good selection of booksb and heaps of lovely things to do locally! A selection of independent, unique shops, character cafes, a vineyard, a country park (it sometimes has outdoor theatre, etc), Parkrun, a 13 mile walk around the stunning coast of the whole island, great pubs (our favourite is The Coast Inn for food, sofas, vibe and sea front outdoor seating too. 10 minutes stroll from the house). Cosy with central heating throughout.
Extremely peaceful, friendly and safe neighbourhood. Very picturesque in parts, with great sea and coast views, and a 13 mile walking trail all around the edge of the island (we walked it in sections). Neighbourhood watch area. Tons to do! • This lovely place has been somewhere to call home for almost a month. It has been very comfortable, well equipped and has everything you need for an enjoyable stay within the quaint old town of West Mersea. Would recommend to anyone wanting to stay in the area. You have a great place here - Thank you Marcus and Julie!

  • This is a well equipped home on a quiet road that is close to the beach and amenities that West Mersea has to offer. The house was spotlessly clean and has a lovely feel to it. It has been perfect for our stay and exceeded expectations. In fact it's been enjoyed so much, that we've booked it again! Thank you Marcus and Julie!

  • We were so happy to make this lovely cottage our Mersea home. As soon as we arrived we felt comfortable and at home. As we live in AirBNBs around the world in a continuous basis...this is high praise. We were surprising family on the island this trip. Having such a wonderful place we were finally able to invite them to our house for dinner. The kitchen here was large and wonderful and had everything we needed to prepare a meal for 8. The rest of the house is large and comfortable. It was also lovely to have such a beautiful garden to relax in when the sun was shining. Highly recommend making this your Mersea home.

  • This was my second, lengthy stay at Marcus and Julie's. On both occasions, I was delighted with the accommodation and couldn't recommend it more highly. The house is conveniently located, well-equipped and spotless. Everything you could need is provided and the beds are exceptionally comfortable. Check-in is simple and Marcus and Julie respond immediately of you have any queries. I would very happily stay here again if ever visiting Mersea and wholeheartedly recommend it for a stay of any length.

Tranquility by the sea. Walk the sea wall to St Peters chapel. Stop off at the Greenman Public house on the way back for a bite to eat and a well earned drink. Friendly neighbourhood, where nothing is a problem. Peaceful, lots of walks or just relax in our beautiful garden. We live upstairs and our accommodation we rent is downstairs, you have your own key for the main front door, and a separate key for your own flat door, no-one else will be going in your room whilst you stay with us.
You will find tea, coffee, cereal, bread and butter, milk and juice provided in your apartment.
St Peters Chapel is about a 3 hour walk but beautiful. There are two public houses in the village, plus a local community shop. There are various takeaways around that deliver. The Greenman Public House next door does very good food and great portion sizes.
  • We had a lovely stay here. Christine was there to greet us when we arrived which made us feel very welcomed when we met her. The apartment was clean and very cosy and we enjoyed every moment whilst there. I would highly recommend this place to stay if you’re looking for somewhere relaxing and peaceful.

  • We had a lovely overnight stay at Christine's place - it's very comfortable, stylish and sparkling clean. Like a home away from home. Christine is a lovely host and the flat is situated in a beautiful area, quiet and idyllic. We wouldn't hesitate to stay again. :-)

  • We had a lovely stay - it is close to the marina and a nice walk. The space is very clean and well equipped. The back garden is beautiful - much better than the photo :). There is a pub next door and a local store nearby, but other supermarkets and places to eat are about a 20 minute drive away (also a lovely town). Thanks for having us Christine.

    Bradwell-on-Sea, England, United Kingdom

Barely an hour from Greater London, the tower's brickwork and terracotta glows in the sunshine, the tallest Tudor gatehouse in England, with amazing coast views. Harder to spot in a beautiful spot nestling in the birch, ash and alder trees that you'll share with pheasants, woodpeckers, muntjac and owls are the Tents, some facing onto red deer in adjacent fields. In early spring, there are even lambs to bottle feed! The race to build the tallest building goes on today. In Tudor days, Henry Marney as Lord Privy Seal and Captain of the Bodyguard followed Henry VIII's lead and set about rivalling Cardinal Wolsey's work at Hampton Court, building the tallest Tudor gatehouse in the country. Today, with its stunning tower, grounds, lakeside setting and stableyard, Layer Marney has a way of adding to and boosting the Feather Down ingredients. At this gorgeous Country Retreat location, luxurious wooden-floored tents have interiors also reminding of days gone by, while including flushing toilets. The Feather Down Feeling is to be had too in an outdoor hot tub available in the booking process as an extra. Indulge the senses in nature following adventure getting the water to the perfect temperature with the wood underneath, for the perfect sunset. Or take off on family bikes rented here. Layer Marney even has its own farm animals to visit and meet, but dogs cannot be accommodated. The Layer Marney grounds make a beautiful wedding venue and music can sometimes be heard by the early-to-bed. On a smaller scale, for the family you can cook up your own nice slow-cooking meal on the wood burning stove, perhaps using the ingredients for the scrumptious "cowboy supper" stew. Make use of the honesty shop, which is right there at your ideal glamping holiday! Please note: there is no electricity in this location
