Please introduce yourselves when requesting to book and tell us a little about your planned getaway, if you haven't added a pic or bio to your profile please consider doing this, it just helps us see who we're talking to. Thanks a lot Joe Scott.
CORONA VIRUS UPDATE Hi all I just wanted to inform you all of how Outdoor Retreats ltd will presently be dealing with bookings at Dan y Coetir Lodge in regards to the Corona Virus. The Lodge will remain open, but we will be taking the following precautions: We will now for the most part, be checking guests in and out with instructions sent over the phone and using the lock box for the key. This is typically how we operate anyway and has worked well up until now. If our assistance is needed however, please be assured that we are close by and always able to help, Corona Virus or not! Cleaning staff will arrive at least 1hr after guests have checked out and will leave at least 1hr before guests are due to arrive. Extra precautions will be taken to protect their health and that of our guests. The cleaners already ensure a very high level of cleanliness at the lodge. Antibacterial cleaners are always used throughout the property but you can be assured that this has been stepped up to include more points. Our cancellation policy remains the same and we will always make every effort to rebook holidays if it comes to that, but please ensure you have holiday insurance in place. You'll probably be aware of the loo roll shortages being experienced, as we are unsure if this is going to persist and our suppliers are currently out of stock we are suppling loo roll at a rate of 1 roll for every 2 nights booked. This is to protect what stock we do have, the rolls we use are longer than standard so this shouldn't be a cause for concern. We have checked with BISHTA (The British and Irish Spa and Hot Tub Association) and their current policy is that there is nothing to worry about while using a hot tub. The coronavirus would be inactivated at the levels of chlorine/bromine used in swimming pools and hot tubs. Our hot tub uses a self dosing system so bromine will always be present in the pool but if you are concerned and would like the pool tested again during your stay just ask. I think that covers most things for now, if things change we will keep you updated but we want to stick as firmly as we can to this policy. Stay safe and we look forward to welcoming you at Dan y Coetir Lodge. Thanks a lot Joe Scott Outdoor Retreats Ltd There are 2 bedrooms one is upstairs and accessed by the original spiral staircase (which may not be suitable for elderly or disabled guests) and the other is downstairs. Pontsticill is a wonderful little village which has a lot to offer. It is perfect as the ideal base to discover the surrounding areas. You can walk up the famous Pen-Y-Fan Mountain or visit Bike Park Wales both just a 10 minute car journey from Pontsticill. The steam train goes across the hill just in front of the cottage, it’s lovely. Even at Christmas time when it is all lit up. There are a number of surrounding reservoirs that provide a beautiful back drop and amazing scenery.
The locals here in Pontsticill are very friendly and are happy to share their wealth of knowledge with regards to the great walks, cycle routes and the many attractions that are within easy driving distance. Including; Cyfarthfa Castle, Pen-Y-Fan, Brecon Mountain Railway, Bike Park Wales, Morlais Golf Club, Parkwood Outdoors Dolygaer and many more. Merthyr offers a retail park with a selection of high street shops and Trago Mills Department store which is located opposite Cyfarthfa Retail Park.
The Butchers Arms and The Red Cow Inn are very friendly pubs that offer good food and are located just minutes on foot from Ty Twt.
  • Great cosy cottage with log burner in good location in the village. Local pub very friendly and only a short walk away. Perfect location for walking (unfortunately we had storm Dennis when staying) . Bed was very comfy and was lovely to be provided with a few food essentials on arrival. Wifi was quick and Rees quickly replied to any questions throughout our stay.

  • Great cottage in a stunning location. Cannot recommend a stay here enough!!!

    Holly2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Ty Twt is a beautiful, rural Welsh cottage overlooking a gorgeous unspoilt Welsh Valley. Although very small the cottage has enough amenities to guarantee a wonderful stay. We really enjoyed our few days in the cottage and in the local village where the locals made us welcome in the two pubs. In many ways the place felt lovely and isolated but in fact its close to the village and a short drive from anything you might want in one of the local towns. Rees the owner couldn't have been more helpful and was always available for advice. We will certainly be back soon.

    Steve2020-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely stay, the cottage was just what we wanted for a weekend walking and climbing. As well as providing some breakfast goodies Rees also organised some sunshine! Thank you

  • I highly recommend Clive's place if you're planning a trip to Merthyr Tydfil. It's clean and nicely laid out with a patio facing a big backyard. From his place, it's a very short drive to the Brecon Beacons and a few minutes walk to all the shops, pubs and eateries in Cefn-coed-y-cymmer. The Taff Trail is also close by and will take you to town. Most importantly, Clive is a great host!

  • We had a wonderful stay over new year here with a group of friends. Wonderfully warm hospitality, lovely house much more modern and nicely decorated than in photos with great facilities and clean as a new pin. The single room doesn't have space for a sofa bed so we had to put someone in the living room so that's just something to note if you're a large group. A brilliant stay and would definitely come again and recommend.

Our cosy guest cottage is situated in the Brecon Beacons in the quite village of Ponsticill, making it the perfect place for walkers and cyclists alike (bikes being available to hire at one of the local pubs) Brecon Mountain Railway is just minutes away and can be viewed from the comfort of the well appointed patio area that catches the sun from first light. Great home cooked food served at both pubs in the village that offer all a warm welcome. Perfect for a complete get away from it all!
Set in a secluded area adjacent to the owners home, the guest house enjoys spectacular unspoilt views of The Brecon Beacons, being 3 miles from the historic town of Merthyr Tydfil with its numerous visitor attractions whilst being close enough to the towns of Brecon, Crickhowell and Abergavenny to enjoy an easy commute of less than 30 minutes.
Ponsticill is a village well practised in welcoming guests from all over the world that join us for the wonderful scenery and surrounding walks. if there is a negative...and that's open for debate if you're looking for a real escape..mobile signal in the village is extremely poor and can be frustrating if you need to make a call.
  • Such a lovely place to stay - cosy and homely! Super clean and stylish with everything we needed! Hosts were great, left us some provisions and got the radiators on for our arrival - even donating some toiletries we forgot to bring! Would highly recommend staying here as so close to a number of great walks and attractions and having stayed in Wales so often, it’s not easy to find a place that feels private and rural and has two pubs in a walkable distance!

    Holly2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • This place is an amazing, cozy and comfortable little home. Good amenities, it has everything you need for a comfortable stay. I would recommend this and I would love to stay there again. One note, i would suggest it is more efficient to locate the Red Cow Pub in your map, from there you are stone away from the house. You can have an ale or two while ask for directionsif needed.

  • A wonderful place to stay and a great base for walking :) a very cosy little home, I would certainly recommend this!

    Katie2019-11-15T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful accomodation perfect if you have dogs we stayed with our two spaniels and there is an area where you can close the gate without having to worry about them. Its very cosy without being small and the views were beautiful. All outdoor activities are easily accessible and the place was immaculate. We will definitely return :)

    Robyn2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed 3 nights in Clare and Dougie’s place. The hosts are really friendly, they made sure we had everything we needed. It is in a perfect location for hiking in the Breacon Beacon and the surrounding areas. The hosts also recommended a nice pub for dinner. We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this place.

    Emma2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful property in an AMAZING location. Hosts were very good and nothing wasn't any trouble for them. There really are some of the most beautiful sights we have seen within a 30 min radius so a very good spot for explorers/hikers. We will be coming back next year, definitely recommend the Horseshoe Falls walk and visiting the Ponsticill Resovouir

Quiet room even with a pub/hotel next door, great amenities with nice touches. The fresh milk and welsh cakes were very much appreciated after a long day walking! Thank you for a lovely stay, will definitely be back and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others!

  • James' Place was amazing. It is stylish and well throughout regarding layout and amenities. A stones through from a shop and local pub. Great TV to chill out to Netflix with and little desk for work. All in all some very clever touches to a cosy room.

    Mark2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • The place was really fantastic. James was thorough in his directions when the map can be temperamental. There were lovely little touches that made us feel really welcome when we got to the place itself. Really clean and organised to boot. The wi-fi was on the spotty side but that's the only thing I wasn't expecting. Everything else was flawless for the price. Great place and thanks fo the stay!

  • Nice, stylish, spotless and characteristically modern little patch of home that offers free parking. Close to Rhydcar Leisure Centre where you can find franchise restaurants such as Nando’s and Frankie & Benny’s, as well as entertainment such as a Vue cinema and about 20 mins drive from the picturesque Waterfall Country, great for a day out hiking. A 45 minute evening trip if you’re interested in having dinner in Cardiff City Centre as we were. Would very much elect to stay here again in the near future.

It was clean, the bed was very comfy and there were nice little touches of Welsh cakes, milk and chocolates waiting for us on arrival. We could hear others moving around the building but it was generally quiet enough. Overall a good little spot for exploring the Brecon Beacons!

  • Really lovely space! My partner and I were at Bike Park Wales for the weekend and looking for space close to the park. James place was less than 10 minutes away, with ample parking right next to the property. The check in process was simple, and once inside, the space is decorated stylishly with thoughtful touches like Welsh cake and fresh milk. Would recommend to anyone, lovely place.

  • 4 of us were heading up to Bike Park Wales and Black Mountain Cycle Center for my 23rd Birthday so we needed a place to crash. I found James’s Place while looking around and thought it was exactly what we were looking for. We checked in with a self check in code which was awesome so we could arrive at a time that suited us between 3-12. There’s also a car park which we could park in and Check in was super easy and well planned. We stayed in flat one which was very quirky and made us feel at home straight away ! We was greeted by James’s mothers cakes which were one of the best we’ve ever tasted and I was also greeted with a birthday card and some chocolates by the team at James’s place . Very clean and tidy and also have ya some little things like tea , coffee and milk which was great after a 3 hour drive. Finally james place is outstanding for the fact my partner left his track pump in the flat and posted the keys , so we phoned James’s place up and he sorted it out straight away and allowed us to get it back , that’s what you call a super host ! We will defiantly be coming back Thank you James’s Place

  • We stayed at James place for 2 nights on valentines weekend in order to explore the Brecon Beacon and the apartment was in the perfect location for that. The self check in was super simple and we found the flat to be very clean and had all the things one would need for a short stay. There was also a lovely extra of a valentines rose:) thank you James for that! The parking is on street and there was always a space right in front of the flats. Excellent stay!

    Josh2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • James' Place is super cool. It has loads of character and some really nice touches. It was a little gemstone that happened to be on the way to where we were going. The village it's self isn't up to much but we did find a cool little tapas pub. It wasn't serving food at the time but we stayed for a drink and had a chat with a few local characters. Great value for money. Thanks James.

Peaceful and quiet - A haven away from the busy day to day hustle and bustle of life.
  • Beautiful and cosy home, perfect for getting space from the outside world. We loved that there was no signal, but a gorgeous fireplace and snuggly sofa with plush blankets instead. Little treats and extra details really made it the loveliest place for us to rest before and after a big Brecon Beacons walk which we reached right from the front door. Thank you!

  • Utter animal heaven. It was so wonderful I plan to come back every year. I adored the location, the views were amazing. The animals were the best and the owners are simply wonderful people. We even got to see a just born lamb. This will always be my happy place.

  • Absolutely lovely hosts and the place was completely spotless. Had a lovely stay, and we’ll miss Mabel the sheep.

  • ⭐️Amazing communication from host. Sent loads of useful information of directions for getting to the lodge. ⭐️such cute personal touches, daffodils, wood for the log burner, brioche, biscuits and doggy treats all in arrival. ⭐️sparkling clean, neat, tidy and pristine. ⭐️kitchen has everything you need, there is even a slow cooker. ⭐️I was concerned about the lack of phone signal, tv signal and no WiFi but it actually turned out to be the. Eat thing ever. We watched about 4 DVD’s and it felt lovely to be “off the grid” for a while! ⭐️we didn’t take children but this place is child friendly. ⭐️would definitely stay again and recommend to all!

    Eleanor2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Morris and Felicity are delightful hosts as are their array of pet farm animals. The space was absolutely perfect for us and the location stunning. Good luck to M and F with the farming ventures and hope we can return some day.

    Jimena2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Where to start ? The communication from Felicity was perfect and prompt, giving me all the information and directions that were spot on. The location was second to none, the added touch of the meet and greet to the animals on the farm really made our weekend. We have 2 dogs and I dont think we could of picked a more accomodating host. Felicity recommended the 3 peaks walk for us and it was spot on distance and time wise! Having the area out the back of the farm to give the dogs a run in the morning is a god send as they are active. To sum up, if you are looking for somewhere to stay, off grid, no signal, a few DVDs, a place the reconnect and reassess, look no further ! The most helpful host you could ask for in the most perfect spot, made for a PERFECT weekend!

    Ross2020-01-19T00:00:00Z

  • Great location as the train station is a short walk away (prepare yourself for the hill!) Merthyr Tydfil is a great little town and if you fancy going into Cardiff by train it’s a beautiful hours journey on the train. James is a great host and makes you feel comfortable instantly. Lovely little welsh cakes and the room was gorgeous. Love the unique heater of the room, took us a while to figure out the source of the heat. Although the listing states no television or WiFi, the apartment actually has both. There are also lots of leaflets of things to do in the surrounding area. Cute little kitchen, perfect for easy meals, comes with two hobs. Can’t wait to return! Thank you James.

  • The place was a great value, perfectly clean, and plenty of space for a large group. We stayed just one night and used it as a base for hiking Pen y Fan. Many hikes, including Pen y Fan, within a short driving distance. Michelle had many great tips on places to eat/things to do. This is a nice area and I would love to go back!

    Katie2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • The house was spotlessly clean and Michelle communicated with us well prior to arrival. There is parking to the rear of the house and although it’s tight we were given really good instructions. The property looked nice on the photos and didn’t disappoint. Would definitely recommend and will stay again next time we visit family.

  • The shed is a great alternative to the traditional hotel/B&B option. It was perfect for 4 blokes on a mountain biking weekend. Lynne was a terrific host and even drove us into town on thursday after we arrived. The Red Lion pub (400m) was so welcoming and friendly - a real high for us. Would highly recommend and will use again on our next MTB weekend.

Semi-rural two bedroom house in small village within ten minutes of the Brecon beacons national park. Ideal base for exploring south wales and all it has to offer. close to amenities shops, pubs, on bus route, mountain bike park ten minutes away.
Very comfortable well equipped cottage maintained to a high standard. With welcome pack on arrival to include all the essentials so you don't have to worry about rushing out for supplies if you arrive late or tired.
Princetown is set along the A465 Heads of The Valleys Road. The title Heads of the Valleys was given to this section as it joins the northern tips or "heads" of the South Wales Valleys. Staying in this part of the country offers you the opportunity to experience the border between rural and industrial South Wales. Having lived here for many years I feel its uniqueness is that you have all the amenities of the modern world on one side and on the other can escape into the wilderness of the magnificent Beacons and view landscape that will lift your heart and make your smile widen. There are so many activities that happen around us from Bike Park Wales to the Adventures of Parc Bryn Bach and many more right on your door step. That's why we aren't moving far away and want to offer our home to let you experience this beautiful part of the world.

  • I planned a last minute trip to the Brecon Beacons and was lucky enough to have Tammy as a host. Everything went swimmingly well, from the very quick reply to my booking request to checking in. The room was very tidy, clean and the sheets smelt of dreams. Tammy went the extra mile to ensure I had a great stay. The location is well situated too, short walk to buses, which take about 5 minutes to the town centre. From the town centre you can get buses to Pen y Fan, towards the waterfalls in pontneddfechan and more. I 100% approve and recommend! *****
