Your very own private, peaceful warm light and spacious 1 bedroom studio apartment which sleeps 2 people comes complete with a luxury shower room & fitted kitchenette which is equipped to a very high standard. The accommodation is set in a beautiful rural county side Llanover within the Brecon Beacons, we are situated 10 minutes from Abergavenny town centre. We are pretty rural so a car is advised.
  • Lovely little place in a rural area

  • Great quiet location. Perfect for walkers.

  • We enjoyed our short stay. Sadly the weather wasn’t great but the apartment was very comfortable and warm with many amenities.

  • Incredible apartment - highly recommend it!

  • Great location. Even though it is out of the way, we felt comfortable and safe coming in and out. Being out of the way was also an advantage because you are surrounded by scenery. The place is Perfect for watching the sunrise. Thank you Leann for helping me in sorting out the little surprise, really appreciate you going out your way to organise that. It was a lovely stay overall.

  • This place is a real gem of an apartment. Stylish decor, fantastic quiet location, really well equipped apartment, clean, tidy, secure everything you could ask for, and as for the leather sofa ...well what can I say, I wish I was sat on it now. Oh and thanks for the Welsh cakes, really yummy.

Old Abergavenny Road Llanover, Abergavenny Monmouthshire, United Kingdom

Self catering cottage, originally built in the 1800's, restored and extended to provide a high standard of accommodation. Set in private gardens with outstanding views across the Usk valley. The garden area provides 2 large decked viewpoints, Private parking, up to 2 dogs very welcome with prior consent. The property has retained it's original stone spiral staircase which might prove difficult for some and the young.
Why not try clay pigeon shooting. All required equipment will be supplied and instruction given by Mike, who has more than 30 years experience in clay pigeon shooting. We are close to the local reservoir who have a range of activities including fishing, nature walks, sailing, wind surfing and a lovely guest centre where you can enjoy a meal while looking over the lake. A short drive will bring you into our local historical town of Usk and it's own castle. Cardiff, Monmouth, Tintern Abbey and Chepstow are all within a short distance along with the beautiful Brecon Beacons. The Sugar Loaf mountain can be seen from the cottage, great for hiking especially enjoying the beautiful Monmouthshire countryside.
Coed-y-Paen is the local village situated across the valley approx. half a mile from the cottage. It has a church, a library ( the old red phone box) and a great pub which is worth trying out especially the restaurant. Dogs are allowed in the bar where you can have a meal. The Llandegfedd Reservoir is just another half mile further on and all is within walking distance. Sailing, fishing and other water sports are available along with a visitor centre overlooking the water. Breakfast, lunch and afternoon cream teas are offered in the cafe. Usk. which is just three miles from the cottage also offers some lovely pubs, many accept dogs, a Micro bar, Indian restaurant and takeaway and Chinese takeaway as well as a Fish and Chip shop. Usk also boasts its own castle and free parking in the town.
  • Janet and Mike were superb hosts! They were very welcoming and had the log fire ready when we arrived. They gave us a tour of the place, shared fantastic stories and history of the area. There were lovely little touches like fresh flowers in every room, and warm throws on the sofa and bed . Communication was quick and they were very helpful in helping us find the cottage, which was a bit difficult to find. Cottage was a bit smaller than the photos, but perfect for a couple. I found the spiral stone staircase a bit steep, and one has to hold onto the wrought iron handles for safety. Bathroom was downstairs, which was difficult if one needs to go down the steep staircase in the middle of the night. Kitchen was well equipped for cooking meals . Basic condiments were provided, and coffee and tea were supplied. Hot tub isn’t connected to the house which was inconvenient on our first night, as it was raining, thus muddy, cold and slippery getting up the little hill ,on a winter’s day. Saying that, you would be rewarded with a lovely view as you get to the top. One has to rely on the wind speed as well, for the tub’s usage as the tub cover may be damaged . One needs to sign a paper before using the tub, citing the rules and regulations. The cottage has amazing surroundings and history. It has lovely cafes, bar and pubs nearby. Location is secluded yet close by to most attraction!

  • This place is an absolute gem, to the point where writing just another positive review may be unnecessary. But it really is a great place for whatever purpose you want it to be; whether that's a weekend city break or a longer stay. We stayed for a weekend and it was fabulous. The cottage is so warm and welcoming while having all modern amenities that one needs and/or is used to, the surroundings are incredibly peaceful. And Janet and Michael are incredibly kind hosts who love having guests! Easy to get to, just outside a small village. We had the perfect stay and will definitely be back.

    Jakub2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing little cottage. Set in a beautiful area. True hidden gem. Views from the hot tub are amazing. Everything you could possibly need is at the cottage. Janet and Mike are amazing hosts

    Necia2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Felt very welcome, the house is very cosy, and the countryside is stunning. Unfortunately the hot tub wasn't operational due to high winds which was understandable.

    Simon2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely fantastic break! Myself, wifey, children and Trigger the dog had such a great time at Forest Cottage. Janet and Mike are such lovely people and great hosts! Not that we needed much as we had everything we wanted, but if there was anything they were always there to help. The log burner was so nice, Mike was always topping the logs up and making sure we had enough. The hot tub was unbelievable, the views were incredible, and an hour a day is perfect! We must have had rain everyday but that did not dampen our spirits or effect our stay one bit. The cottage was so warm and comfortable staying in wouldn’t of been a problem! Although we did venture out with Trigger the dog, and saw some fantastic sights and views while walking the fields. We can’t wait to come back, especially to experience such a beautiful place in the summer.

    Wayne2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Such a lovely cottage with so much character and the most beautiful views from the hot tub. It's my second time staying here and would definitely stay again

    Natalie2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Will no doubt book again in the future, great place, perfect little getaway! FABULOUS!

    Paul2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Janet and Mike were perfect hosts! So friendly and helpful when asking about the local area and added lovely touches around the cottage including the fire being lit for our arrival! Highly recommend

Pontypool (Welsh: Pont-y-pŵl [ˌpɔntəˈpuːl]) is a town that is home to approximately 36,000 people in the county borough of Torfaen, within the historic boundaries of Monmouthshire in South Wales It is situated on the Afon Lwyd river in the county borough of Torfaen. Situated on the eastern edge of the South Wales coalfields, Pontypool grew around industries including iron and steel production, coal mining and the growth of the railways. A rather artistic manufacturing industry which also flourished here alongside heavy industry was Japanning, a type of lacquer ware. Pontypool has a notable history as one of the earliest industrial towns in Wales. The town and its immediate surroundings were home to significant industrial and technological innovations, with links to the iron industry dating back to the early fifteenth century when a bloomery furnace was established at Pontymoile During the sixteenth century, largely due to the influence of the Hanbury family, the area developed its association with the iron industry and continued to consolidate its position in the seventeenth century, when the development of the town began in earnest. Throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the metallurgical and extractive industries of the area, along with the development of the canals and railways, provided the impetus to the expansion of Pontypool and its surrounding villages and communities. its very green here and we love out doors stuff like shooting fishing and mountain biking.. the walks are bracing or leisurely based on your inclination and the people are really friendly the outlying areas vary from the true Valleys where Tom Jones was born to buzzy Abergavenny and Usk
  • We had a lovely stay here! The room is huge and really gorgeous. Perfect place to relax and get away from it all. We enjoyed a lovely walk a short drive away and spend evenings in with wine and a takeaway. Felt like a home away from home. We would definitely come back again.

  • We have just came back from a long weekend at Serafinas b&b. Really relaxed the whole time. Bed was so comfortable and so was the sofa, couldn’t decide which one to sit and watch Netflix on. Choice of breakfast is provided in your room with tea coffee and also orange juice! I really recommend if you’d like a relaxed weekend away. Food at the Lower new inn is also a great choice for dinner, we went both nights! It’s about 5-6 minutes drive from the b&b. Thank you for a great stay.

Luxury Cabin is actually a hot tub room that came with the house - used the hot tub twice and stuck the thing on Ebay . Cabin has wifi , power, heating , a Tv and loads of DVD's . There is a double bed. There is an adjacent basic kitchen and a rustic WC and shower . The garden here is massive and full of poultry . We are in the wilderness of South Wales so if you visit in January bring a coat. Whilst the cabin is not the Savoy we are at least friendly.
Think of the cabin like comfortable camping with a bed electricity wifi and heating - and no packing up !
Holly Tree cottage is located in the south wales valleys on the edge of the Brecon Beacons - there are some fantastic cycle tracks around here and Garn Motorcycles (where Richie works) hire out push bikes so if you fancy cycling about let us know before you are coming and we can sort bikes out for you
  • Amazing

    Loretta2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Desperately needed a little get away! And we hit Jackpot!!! This was PERFECT! We only stayed for the night and it was a stormy rainy night at that, absolutely amazing nostalgic feeling with the rain and wind thrashing around the shed, it wasn’t to loud or anything because it’s fairly sheltered anyway! Was just perfect and cosy. We didn’t expect all the little extras either! And it was so well kitted out, warm inside, electric blanket, drinks and snacks, ‘kettle!’ TV & DVD player with an epic selection to choose from! We drove to a local pub for food and it was 10/10, everyone in the area was lovely and hospitable! The hosts were such friendly salt of the earth people, literally made you feel at home, so welcoming and attentive. We got to help ourselves in the little out kitchen and make Breakfast in the morning, we were joined by some lovely majestic Turkeys, hilarious hens, the cuuuuutest cats and even a random sheep! We’re going back! We recommend it, and for those who love the country, love that outdoors vibe and raw earthy feel, this is for you! Book now, enjoy as much as we did :-) Thanks again so much Rich and Hester. See you soon x x

  • This cottage is beautiful. Even better than it looks in the pictures. So cosy and homely all the little touches make such a difference. The fire, cosy sofa, blanket and cushions, we felt so so relaxed. John and Gabi were really helpful with anything we needed. The check in and out was very easy. The kitchen has everything you need to cook all your meals and they provided us with some milk, eggs, butter and home made bread and other items which was very lovely. There is a pub literally opposite which has nice food. The area is great for walking. Would defiantly recommend this cottage

    Amber2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely little cottage in a lovely little village. Great location for walking, opposite a great local pub. Would highly recommend.

  • We had a lovely 2 night break at Johns place. The cottage was lovely and cosy but bigger than expected. It had everything we could have needed. There were some lovely personal touches such as the freshly baked bread. We were very grateful to have a prepared travel cot for our 4month old ready on our arrival. Overall fantastic place to stay.

    Kelly2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is a lovely little get away, we had such a relaxing weekend. The cottage is well thought out and we had everything we needed. Lovely location easy to get out and go on a walk as well as being able to get out into the town. Thanks for letting us stay!

    Andre2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second stay at Star Cottage and once again we loved it. The cottage is comfortable and very well equipped. We ate at two local pubs - the Star opposite and the Horseshoe which is a drive away (they say you can walk, but it was dark and wet). Also ate in the cottage which has all the pots and pans that you need. We were there for running events and so got pretty wet and cold, so it was great to come home to a lovely warm cottage. We met up with family and went to the Community Farm in Cwbran - which the grandchildren loved. We will be back.

Cosy and bright single room available in modern house in a quiet cul-de-sac on the edge of the Monmouthshire countryside. There is room on drive to park your car (and room in our garage for a cycle or two!)
Little Mill is a tranquil village, nestled in the beautiful Monmouthshire countryside. . From the bedroom windows you can see sheep on the hillside and down the lane there are horses grazing in a field. As well as an abundance of birdlife for "twitchers", there are lovely walks or cycle rides to Llandegfedd Reservoir as well as the historic market town of Usk, where there are several pubs, places to eat, "Museum of Rural Life" and the castle. Goytre Wharf is a short distance away, which is a lovely place to spend an afternoon with a picnic alongside the Brecon and Monmouth Canal. Raglan castle, one of Wales' gems, is within easy reach by car or cycle and Abergavenny is only 9 miles away, with it's majestic Blorenge, Skirrid Fawr and Sugar Loaf mountains, rising up out the morning mist! A walker's paradise! Further afield are the spectacular Brecon Beacons! What more could you ask for in a well-earned mini-break? Or why not stay longer? Diolch Yn Fawr!
In Little Mill, there is the "The Halfway House", where you can enjoy a quiet drink, take part in a quiz and in the summer, play a round of Boules. Additionally, there is a church and a village hall. A short walk along the road you'll find "The Secret Garden" with an array of plants, gardening items, gifts and a tea shop.
  • Susan and Ian are warm and welcoming, and their home is so nice! This was the first AirBnB I've stayed at, and the bar has definitely been set high. As a plus, they're really interesting people! So my brief stay with them was full of stimulating conversation over a cup of tea. If I was in the area for any longer, I would have definitely gone on one of the walking trails they suggested. Would highly recommend, and look forward to going back someday!

Included in price: ~ WiFi ~ Towels ~ Toiletries ~ Hairdryer ~ Washing machine ~ Breakfast (cereal, eggs, toast etc - help yourself) ~ Television in the bedroom with Now TV & Netflix.
The house is 100 years old, with a few quirky features such as a fireplace and original floorboards in the bedroom. Just as a heads up, the floor boards do squeak! You will share the house including kitchen and bathroom with me, my partner Tom, and my cat Magic. You will have your own mini fridge in the kitchen and a drinks cooler in the bedroom. Your bedroom has a lock on the door. You have a television in your room with Netflix and catchup tv, and a digital radio, and Fibre Fast WiFi across the whole house.
The house is at the top of a hill with stunning views. It is on a quiet, friendly street where most of the neighbours know each other. We are surrounded by hills and trees in this area of Wales, it is the perfect location to get away from city life! You are close to a Tesco and a short drive away from Cwmbran, Usk and Abergavenny. You are less than half hour from Newport, and less than an hour from Brecon Beacons National Park, or Cardiff. There is a lot to see and do in the local area, have a look at 'visit Monmouthshire' or 'visit Caerphilly' or 'visit Cardiff' websites. There is a lot of castles, areas of natural beauty, walking and cycling paths, and museums and old towns. I also could recommend some lovely pubs and farm shops in the area!

  • I arrived, bedraggled after cycling from Bristol. Vanessa and Tom are perfect hosts and helped me settle in, in my tired state. I only stayed one night and found them very accommodating. The house is very much as described with a large kitchen/diner with tea/coffee etc and a continental help yourself breakfast, ready for you in the morning. A large double bedroom with nice bedding and towels and a spacious/modern bathroom. Nice and quiet at night so I think you are assured a good nights sleep. The house is an attractive Victorian looking house, elevated with long views across the valley. Can't fault, thank you guys!

Throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the metallurgical and extractive industries of the area, along with the development of the canals and railways, provided the impetus to the expansion of Pontypool and its surrounding villages and communities. its very green here and we love out doors stuff like shooting fishing and mountain biking.. the walks are bracing or leisurely based on your inclination and the people are really friendly the outlying areas vary from the true Valleys where Tom Jones was born to buzzy Abergavenny and Ask

Fully furnished holiday cottage with BBQ and separate garden.
Plenty of pubs and restaurants within 3 miles of us . The town's of Abergavenny and Monmouth are only about 7 miles away both of which have cinemas and theatres. There are Castles and Abbeys to visit locally . The town of Bleanavon has a mining museum where you can also go down into the old mines with guided tours. The Brecon Beacons are not far away for those that like to walk there is also the Sugar Loaf and the Black Mountains locally , the walk along the local canal in Abergavenny can also be completed while trying out the canal boat rides for those that prefer it . Coarse fishing can also be catered for locally
  • The photos cannot do this place justice, it was so much bigger than anticipated but also so cost and homely. The fire was a delight. It was the perfect location to have a break from Corona-virus. So isolated and didn't see another person (apart from Zoe and Merv who are lovely) the whole time. Lovely walk so on the door step. Please please stay here in the next few months.

  • This cottage is very large and nicely laid out. It's in a lovely quiet spot, yet extremely accessible. I stayed for work so I didn't get out but there are plenty of attractions very close by. I would recommend abergavenny town, walks up the mountains or The Big pit is also surprisingly interesting. Also close by is Raglan play barn and farm which is awsome for kids. The cottage had everything I needed and I would definitely stay again. Thanks! Wendy

This old cottage was built in the 18th century, and boasts classic low ceilings, stone walls, and wooden beams. The newly converted house remains true to its historical past whilst adding a modern twist. The kitchen has been renovated as well as the bathrooms and bedrooms to provide you with the best experience. There is a bus stop at end of the road, a chip shop 2 doors away with delicious food. There is also local pub 5 minutes away that offers fantastic service.
The house is newly renovated. Comprising of 3 floors, walking in you will be greeted by a stone chimney with an electric fire. There are 2 sofas and a laundry area, with toilet joined. The kitchen leads to a spiral staircase which welcomes you to the second floor. On this floor you will find a single bedroom, a king size bedroom as well as the main bathroom. The steep staircase takes you to the attic conversion that has a double bed and en suite toilet. Historic wooden beams are visable on the top two floors, as well as the low ceilings. Additionally, there is a small back garden large enough to host a table and 2 chairs.
The neighbour's are great and there's a fantastic chip shop next door! There is also a lovely pub down the road. The road can get a little busy at school times due to parents collecting children but there shouldn't be too much traffic otherwise.

  • We stayed over Xmas and had a wonderful time. The cottage was larger than it appears in the photos and we had a very comfortable stay. There is everything you need to cook, a table that easily seats four, two comfy sofas and sky TV. The internet was fast and the cottage heating was brilliant. The shower was probably the only thing that wasn't perfect but it was completely adequate for the length of our stay. Lynne was very quick to communicate with me and was on hand if we needed anything. There was plenty of parking and a decking and patio area outside which would have been lovely in the summer. There were books and games, a travel cot and stair gate. I highly recommend this cottage and if we are in the area again we will certainly rebook. Many thanks Lynne.

'Dragon Cottage' is a traditional mining cottage in the residential heart of Blaenavon. It has been renovated (4* graded) but maintains its character with beams and stonework. All local amenities including convenience stores, pubs/bars, restaurants and an array of excellent take-aways are a short walking distance. Parking is usually available on the road outside or very nearby. It provides an excellent base for touring Wales. Reliable Wi-Fi is available in the cottage.
Blaenavon is a typical ex-mining town in the first of the Valleys, 5 miles from Abergavenny, 27 miles from Cardiff and 33 miles from the Severn Bridge which is now toll free. Situated on the edge of the Brecon Beacons, wonderful scenery can be reached within a few minutes including the Tumble and Garn Lakes. The area is excellent for walks and cycling and the Goytre Canal (as seen on 'Great Canal Journeys') is nearby
Blaenavon was granted World Heritage status in 2000 with its mining history - the Big Pit experience and the Ironworks are located on your doorstep with other attractions such as the Heritage Steam Railway and the Rhymney Brewery Viitor Centre - there are really endless opportunities whatever the weather so a visit to the local World Heritage Tourist Information Centre which houses an exhibition and an excellent café is recommended as a first stop! The main street has a variety of shops and excellent take-aways, there are at least five convenience stores within short walking distance, including a Co-Op. The popular Butterflies Bar & Restaurant is a few steps up the road and the well-rated Lion Hotel is a very short walk away where you can enjoy a drink or pub snack in the bar or a meal in the restaurant. There is a new coffee shop just opened in Broad Street (Sprinklez) and the Blaenavon Cheddar Company makes wonderfully flavoured cheeses on site for all to see and buy!! Otherwise the Card & Coffee Shop is also recommended.
  • We had a lovely time at this cosy cottage. Everything we needed was provided, the beds were very comfy and the cottage was very warm despite the terrible weather. The cottage came with detailed instructions and lots of useful information about the local area. Thank you!

  • We had an absolutely fabulous time in Polly’s cottage. It was so clean and beautifully furnished. This has to be the best Airbnb we’ve stayed in. There was a very helpful welcome basket, milk, bread, cakes and ice! (Which we used up!). The beds were extremely comfy and the extra touches such as the fans, hairdryer and Netflix very welcome. We loved Blaenavon there were loads of walks and Heritage attractions to see. The town is small but has s couple of nice places to eat and a visit to the Cheese Shop highly recommended! We are hoping to return- will definitely stay with Polly again if we do.

  • WOW!! Amazing cottage that totally blows you away with everything that it has to offer. Like a new show house, with lots and lots of extras that you do not expect such as tea bags, welcome treats, shampoo, local guides, iron, lovely towels. All new appliances in kitchen. Very cosy place to stay in September with central heating and fireplace. Amazing views of surrounding hills from the street and up the road a mile. Highly recommend to anyone. Even if 2 couples wanted to stay here it wpuld be fine as both double rooms are big enough. Very quiet building and cannot hear neighbours at all. Will be going again in future

We are ideally located for walking and cycling holidays and visiting local attractions such as : museums, castle, local theatre and cinema. A car would be an advantage to visit other areas of interest, such as Blaenavon Big Pit and st Fagan’s in Cardiff. However we are situated a 2 minute walk from the Monmouthshire and Brecon canal , where you can hire boats, canoes, bicycle’s and fishing, a daily pass is required.
  • Really enjoyed our stay in the cottage. It was very clean and nicely decorated. The hosts were extremely welcoming and helpful. They provided us with a complimentary bottle of Prosecco and an array of breakfast choices. Gary was kind enough to take us to the local train station. Overall we would definitely recommend.

  • Great cottage with good amenities and a lovely big bathroom. I would highly recommend it.

  • Fantastic little cottage close to the canal. Good for a weekend gateway! Make sure you bring your own shower toiletries and do not follow google maps when you’re close to the property as it will try to take you elsewhere!

    Camilla2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely great cottage, relaxing and the most comfy sofa and beds ever! The bathroom is awesome and the facilities were great - really well equipped with many extras that made our stay even better. Both inside and out were really thoughtfully put together and would certainly recommend, and would love to return! Thank you :)

    Alison2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Gary was very welcoming on arrival and a great host, always very quick to respond to any queries we had and gave us some useful tips on the local area. The cottage is a great space, tastefully restored and modernised but retaining the beautiful original stone staircase. The breakfast hamper and fresh flowers were also a really nice touch!

    Andy2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • A truly beautiful cottage in a tranquil setting just a few hundred metres from the canal. The welcome we received and the hamper of breakfast treats made us feel like holiday began immediately on arrival. The cottage is sparkling clean with everything provided for a restful break. The only tip is bring slippers as the beautiful stone floors can be a bit cold. The local area has lots to do. We loved canoeing down the canal and visiting Big Pit.

    Steve2019-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • I really want to say much better than expected but it’s difficult to say that as Gary’s description is spot on. The cottage is amazing, with beautiful gardens. I arrived later than expected and Gary was very welcoming, showed me around and nothing was too much. There are many thoughtful touches and a homely comfy feeling with a massive sofa to sink into, you can not help but relax. The kitchen is well equipped and you can cook a handsome meal. Number of lovely soft towels in the bathroom is generous. The location is great! Very accessible and yet far enough off the main roads to be peaceful and private. There is plenty to do in the area for all ages and plenty of books and games in the cottage for the evenings. I would highly recommend this cottage and hope to visit again soon.

  • We had a fab time staying at The Old Dairy while visiting family and friends locally. Lovely homemade touches such as the lemon drizzle cake which was the perfect sweet treat after a long journey. Rachel’s home was perfect for us and my 9month old. Great space rooms were homely and modern, my mother in law even decided to join us after I told her how lush it was! Can’t wait to come back :)

    Sophie2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We were delighted with the accommodation at The Old Dairy. Self check in was easy and everything inside was so clean and well thought out.

    Richard2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • The Old Dairy is lovely and relaxing , close enough to nearby shops etc but far enough to be in the middle of nowhere with the nature on your doorstep. The place is better in real life than the photos can actually show and The kitchen is well equipped with everything you could possibly need. Communication was spot on and I would happily recommend to family and friends. Thank You.

  • What a great find! Location is brilliant, very close to edge of Brecon Beacons and lovely walks straight out of the front (or back) door! Wonderful space, wood burner was ideal after a frosty walk! Brilliant that it's dog friendly, very thoughtful providing water/food bowl and a couple of other essentials. We had a brilliant weekend and hope to return!

The cottage is in a rural setting but its not isolated. Its technically on the riverbank but set up high above trees so you cannot see the water from the cottage. We are 3 miles from beautiful Usk with its prizewinning summer flower displays and small shops and in the other direction about 5 from the bustling market town of Abergavenny which also has banks, supermarkets and good range of shops, theatre, cinema . We are close to the Monmouth and Brecon canal and as the Vale of Usk lies between the mountains of the Brecon Beacons and the stunning Wye Valley you can select a different type of landscape to walk or drive each day. There is a really excellent range of pubs and restaurants, particularly top end quality award winners, all easily accessible. Vanilla Cottage is one of a pair of cottages. The other is occupied by a very pleasant but not intrusive neighbour .
  • Beautiful cottage set in a lovely quiet location. We booked the cottage for a short break away with our dogs to explore the Brecon’s and have some much needed downtime. The cottage is very well appointed and has everything you could wish for. There were fresh flowers in the rooms on our arrival which was a lovely touch. In the surrounding area there are lovely pubs to eat out or have a drink with the locals. We were made to feel very welcome. Highly recommend

  • Beautiful cottage, amazing location

    Nicholas2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage and garden in gorgeous surroundings. Very clean with thoughtful touches. Might be worth a note that stairs are tightly curved with a rope bannister. A bit tricky if you have restricted mobility.

    Julie2019-06-27T00:00:00Z
  • Vanilla Cottage is as beautiful as it looks, inside and out. It's got a lot of charm and is immaculately kept. The gardens are wonderful - they smell amazing and are buzzing with damsel flies and bumblebees. In the evening we were treated to an aerobatic display by swallows and then later a team of pipistrelles! The inside of the house is also perfect. The location is great for all the Wye has to offer - it's about 20 minutes to Abergavenny and the Sugar Loaf, or 20 minutes in to Monmouth for the market and canoeing. The Usk is easily accessible from the house and the Chainbridge Inn is just 3 minutes down the road. They've got a great outside space where you can watch the sun go down over the hills while fly-catchers dart about over the river. Absolutely lovely :)

  • Love love love! Went for a New Years break with the wife and Greyhound. Great home, great facilities, so cozy, comfy and warm, great walking nearby and lovely pubs and cafes. Lovely hosts and would definitely return! Would recommend x

  • A super house and setting. Everything that could be wished for.

    Peter2018-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Vanilla Cottage was my first Airbnb stay, I often book for my work colleagues, but this was my very first personal experience and I can say it truly exceeded my expectations. The entire experience was fantastic, from before I made the booking to last minute additional requests I made once I was en route to the Cottage, nothing was too much trouble for Fiona. I spent 5 nights at Vanilla Cottage with my 2 spaniels and it was a home away from home for us all. All the little touches (far too many to mention!) were amazing, fresh flowers, afternoon tea, plenty of local guides, fluffy towels, comfy bed and who could resist the spa bath! The cottage is fully equipped and has everything you would ever need (and more!), including a 'dog cupboard' just in case you've forgotten anything for your four legged friend. The garden is fully secure so I felt confident that not even my little 'escape artist' could get out. The cottage is quiet, peaceful and whilst it feels as though you're away from everything, Usk is only a very short drive away and there's a pub right at the end of the road! I'd highly recommend Vanilla Cottage if you're looking to get away from it all, it's fantastic and I've already recommended it to others. Oh and don't forget to watch the bats at dusk (I was never up at dawn!) , it's an amazing site .... we got to 351 before we stopped counting!!!

The property is recently decorated and includes a new, fully equipped kitchen. There are 2 good sized bedrooms overlooking the front garden. Access is along a single track lane leading to a private parking area for one car. Strictly no parking on the lane because it is a public footpath and a right of way but additional parking, if required, is available nearby. The property is a short walking distance from the scenic River Usk and so many other breathtakingly beautiful country walks.
A place for walking boots is provided under the verandah and please wear soft footwear inside the bungalow.
The property is a short walking distance from Usk town where there is an abundance of shops and good places to eat and drink. Some places of interest are Usk Rural Life Museum and Usk Castle. I have provided information leaflets on places to visit inside the property together with a visitor's book in which comments and suggestions are welcome.

Llancayo House is close to the historic market town of Usk. Usk has many strings to its bow. For a start, it sits on one of the finest salmon fishing rivers in the country, the River Usk. Then there's its free to visit 11th century castle, the backdrop for an enchanting, romantic garden. But its main claim to fame is as a regular winner of Wales in Bloom, (37 years in a row). Beyond this, in 2017 Usk was named joint winner of the large village category in the Royal Horticultural Society’s Britain in Bloom awards, alongside Market Bosworth in the East Midlands. Then in 2018 it improved on this by winning the ''International Challenge Award (Small Category)' at the Communities in Bloom Ceremony in Canada. To show off its beautiful gardens, Usk hosts a colourful Open Gardens weekend every June. You can also enjoy their county show every September, their Rural Life Museum (with delicious cafe), and a Town Trail which includes 28 sites of historic interest, each with a Blue Plaque, all in this small picturesque town. Llancayo House is also close to Abergavenny. Nestled between seven hills close to the border between England and Wales, it truly is a ‘Gateway To Wales’. Abergavenny and the Town Hall A view of Abergavenny and the Town Hall located on Cross Street Although there is evidence of humans in the area from around 4,000 B.C, the first major settlement was built by the Romans. They called their fort Gobannium, and it was occupied from 57-400 A.D. In 1087, just 21 years after the invasion of the Normans, they built a castle in the area. A town grew up alongside it – this town was called ‘Burgavenny’. The town grew, and sometime after 1241 a set of walls was built around the town, with four large protected gateways. The town expanded until the Black Death arrived in the late 1340s, but recovered in the 16th and 17th centuries, when the trades of weaving and tanning became the major source of income. Today Abergavenny remains a vibrant town. Although there is no major industry here, the busy markets, the annual festivals and the tourists they attract support the local economy.

  • Have stayed twice now over a weekend while working. Lovely bright and airy, large single room area with plenty of space + shower room, on the upper floor of a modern wooden outbuilding. All very accurately described. There is also a desk under one of the windows now. Fridge (w/ starter milk) and Nespresso coffee in place. Only absence for some may be microwave/TV, but you come here to be free of that and not need them! 4x large sloped roof windows mean you can see out to the fields, hills and mountains that surround you in all directions, whether sat down, walking around, brushing your teeth, in the shower, or at the desk. Nothing looks in on you. Also large and varied bookcase + digital radio. Go try the ample really excellent local food options, or if standard takeaway fare required, Abergavenny only about 8 min drive. Right on a network of footpaths straight from the house. Marianne and Kim are wonderful hosts, very well-travelled with work. This place works really well for having own privacy, very separate building, can come and go easily as you like. Yet they are very much there as hosts whenever needed, and will have all the time in the world with you if you want to learn a bit more about the area/what you should do, or just to chat about the world. If there's anything you need that you don't have in there, I am confident they would be very happy to help you out!

    Gregory2018-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • Marianne was a very warm and gracious host. She and her husband offered me and my friend a beer upon arrival, and they were both filled with all kinds of useful knowledge and recommendations for things to do and see in the area. The place where we slept was beautiful and we even got to witness a meteor shower through one of the large windows that looked up at the sky. Definitely hope to come again!

    Nick2018-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • A fabulous loft space with a very comfortable bed. Although the weather was very hot the accommodation was airy and cool, our hosts even offered us a fan if we needed one. The views are spectacular from every window, enjoyed an evening and breakfast coffee amongst the fruit trees in the garden. One afternoon we followed the footpath from the property boundary, across a field to the river where we enjoyed a few hours of wild swimming in a stunning setting. Check in and out was easy and our hosts were very accommodating. Would love to return.

Chapel Cottage Shepherds Hut is a cosy, comfortable space for up to two guests to enjoy a get away in a peaceful, rural location close to the Brecon Beacons near Abergavenny.

The Hut is around 1/4 mile away from the very quiet village of Llanddewi Rhydderch which has no shops or pubs but you will find a small park on the village green. We are a great base for walking in the Brecon Beacons with the Skirrid, Sugar Loaf and Blorenge mountains just a few minutes drive away. The National Cycle Network Route 42 runs through Llanddewi Rhydderch providing great routes for cyclists. We are 4 miles outside of Abergavenny, a bustling market town with a good range of independent shops and restaurants, a theatre, castle and museum and hosts a popular annual Food Festival. Abergavenny has our nearest bus/train stations. We are also within an hours drive of Cardiff and Hereford as well as lots of lovely local towns such as Crickhowell, Usk, Brecon and the National Heritage Site at Brynmawr.
  • We enjoy staying here so much that this was actually our second visit. I do a fair bit of staying in this type of accommodation and the Shepherds Hut is the best use of a small space ever! Every little thing is thought off and everything has a space and a place in the living area plus there is an excellent en-suite bathroom. We also had a wonderful welcome basket of wine, cookies, crisps, pesto, pasta and a festive bowl of quality street which was a lovely touch! If you want peace, views, friendly relaxed hosts and a great location for the many local walks and market town of Abergavenny then this is the place to stay for me. Highly recommended and will no doubt return for a third stay.

Very accommodating and the space in this lift studio is great. Such a classy accommodation with great little touches. Double bedroom with private shower room, lounge, dining room & access to garden. The house is in a stunning rural location surrounded by farmland. It's incredibly peaceful. There is no light pollution and the darkness gives amazing views of the night sky. Just outside the eastern end of the Brecon Beacons National Park, we're in a great location for exploring the Black Mountains and Wye Valley. The Central Beacons and Waterfall Country are easily commutable and less than an hour’s drive away.
Our guest accommodation consists of a lovely double bedroom, an immediately adjacent private shower room and sole use of lovely downstairs living and dining rooms in a renovated character property. The lounge is cosy and comfortable with two leather sofas, a TV with Sky and a log burning stove. The adjacent dining room is light and airy. Tea and coffee making facilities are available in your room and the kitchen. We have a large garden that you're welcome to wander in. We'd suggest taking in the sunset with a glass of wine in a spot that takes your fancy. We're happy to provide garden chairs or a picnic blanket. Breakfast is provided and is served in your dining room. We are happy to supply evening meals as served to the family for a small extra charge. Happy to discuss what you'd like to eat and to be flexible on meat, dairy-free, vegetarian, vegan or gluten free. Alternatively, there are a number of good eateries a short drive away. We'd recommend the Hardwick, the Beaufort Arms or the Clytha Arms for the food and the setting. Happy to discuss bookings for a single night rather than a minimum of two - just drop us a line. As first-aid qualified walk leaders, we are also able to offer full or half-day guided walks in the Brecon Beacons National Park in addition to accommodation. A bespoke itinerary can be designed to suit your requirements and fitness. Costings; - full days walking including a packed lunch and transport £120 for two people. - half-days walking including lunch and transport £75 for two people. If this is something you’re interested in, please message us with the date you’d like to arrange and we will set up an AirBnB experience for you in addition to your accommodation.
From the garden, you can see the Blorenge, Skirrid Fawr, Skirrid Fach and the Sugarloaf, and all are a short drive away. Situated ten minutes outside Abergavenny, we are ideally located for the Food Festival and for exploring the town. We would thoroughly recommend the indoor market, afternoon tea at the Angel Hotel or the Sugarloaf Vineyards. We are also easily commutable to the lovely town of Crickhowell. An easy commute for the Hay Festival and ideally situated for the Crickhowell Walking Festival, Hay Walking Festival, Green Man Festival and others.

  • Great communication and excellent hosts. The house, food and their generosity was outstanding. Their knowledge of the hills was very helpful when looking at walking/running routes considering the weather. Would definitely go back without question.

  • Emma is delightful. Her breakfasts were delish, and the over and above “taxi” service to and from the food festival was brilliant. I would highly recommend for anyone looking for Good Festival accom. And the bed ... very comfortable.

  • Remote location, beautiful countryside, friendly, fantastic hosts, plentiful breakfast, great private lounge and dining area

  • What a wonderful few days in the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Emma and Hugh are such wonderful hosts; incredibly welcoming and thoughtful throughout our stay. From the moment we booked we had great communication with Emma, highlighting everything we needed to know and enabling us a late arrival time from London. The house is set in a remote area on the outskirts of Abergavenny. Beautiful! The perfect place to explore both the Brecon Beacons to the west for our day of archery and an ascent of Pen y Fan, to the Forest of Dean to the East for a day of canoeing from Ross-on-Wye to Symonds Yat. And the breakfasts...well, what can we say? A feast fit for adventurers out to explore for the day. Delicious and plentiful, we simply couldn't believe this was included i the price. Delightful touches and great conversations. Thank you Emma for a wonderful few days. Highly recommended, without doubt!

  • Emma is an exceptionally attentive host, ensuring our stay was enjoyable and comfortable. The house is spacious and rooms are clean. Her local knowledge made our stay more interesting. Would highly recommend this place!

    David2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing stay - the situation and the house are stunning as are the breakfasts! No need for a packed lunch. From the firs communication to the care over detail when staying there, this was a fantastic experience. Emma and Huw were delightful hosts adding to the ambience and enjoyment of the visit. They have a wealth of local knowledge regarding where to eat and interesting places to visit, walk or cycle. The house in a quiet location (sat nav needed, but no problem to find) is not far from Abergavenny (10 mins) and fantastic scenery. The vineyard is a must visit and the small town of Crickhowell too. Attention to detail and the quality of material from - food to shower gel- ensured a luxurious stay which was exceptional for the price. Recommended without reservation.

  • A beautiful old house tucked away in the welsh countryside just a stones throw from the highlights of the Brecon Beacons. Despite being quite late to arrive we were made to feel very welcome and the dinner provided was very tasty and plentiful. The Breakfasts were very well provisioned too. The bedroom and bathroom were spotless and very comfortable, with tea/coffee making facilities provided too. Our hosts were also very happy to share their extensive knowledge of the local area with a wealth of tips and recommendations. Thank you for a very relaxing and refreshing break. We would definately recommend staying here.

  • A lovely stay at a wonderful farm retreat. Tracey was very accommodating and helped us settle in. We even got a private tour of the farm which was really interesting as well as some great local tips! Property was as described, very comfortable furniture and beds. Underfloor heating was very luxurious, and the shower was the best holiday shower we've ever had (shower water pressure is so important, but so often terrible, not here!)

  • A fantastic friendly welcome as we arrived, with a freshly baked cake handed over ! Usefull local advice given and a quick show around apartment. Host is always on hand but not intrusive. Perfect. A lovely amazing air bnb. Thank you so much. We will be back !

  • Very nice accomadation and space. Nice modern cottage in a relaxing space. My 3 year old son loved the space and enjoyed having his own bedroom and adult sized bed. Very comfortable and quiet and good location for seeing the forest of Dean, close to Monmouth, Abergavenny and Cardiff. Thanks for an enjoyable trip.

    James2018-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Fisherman's Rest is a beautiful cottage, spotlessly clean and spacious for three. The location is special and the farmyard tour one of the highlights of our holiday. Tracey is a lovely host, friendly and generous with her time. A great location to stay to explore Abergavenny. The homemade Barabrith and fresh eggs were gratefully received. I have no hesitation in recommending Fisherman's Rest Cottage and Pant y Goitre Farm as a wonderful place to stay.

  • Lovely location was delightful and very useful for the Abergavenny Food festival, which is amazing especially if blessed with the good weather I was. Ceri was the perfect host and the accommodation was as listed, so pretty darn perfect for a few nights stay. Cooking facilities and equipment are limited but didn’t stop me cooking a hot light dinner & full breakfast 👍 The bathroom is amazing and I can’t recommend enough how fab the bath itself is, as a shower lover usually, I soaked both evenings for over an hour. A real treat. The darkness of the countryside, which Ceri warned me off has its real bonuses as the night sky is amazing without the light pollution you get in the south east. The supplied torch in the apartment I found did need a new battery but I had my phone torch anyway and Ceri showed me where the outside light switch was on arrival so all good. Steps to Loft but nothing to strenuous and the veranda meant you could sit (seating provided) and enjoy a morning cuppa whilst enjoying the beautiful welsh hills and surrounding farmland all in view from the comfort of my chair. I’d defiantly book again and hope it’s not long before I can go back.

    Andrea2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay, the weather was perfect. The loft was perfect and the location was great. We had evening drinks on the deck and we could see every star in the sky. We will definitely be back.. Thank you Ceri

  • Lovely quiet location and cozy space

    Ben2019-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • Ceri was a very friendly and helpful host.

    Ian2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • I really couldn't recommend Ceri's loft more, it was the perfect home-away-from-home during the month we spent there: very clean, the kitchen equipped with everything we needed, the bathroom stocked with all the necessities, a comfortable bed, great shower/bath (with jacuzzi), plenty of storage space, superfast Broadband and very good strength WiFi. Ceri's loft-conversion apartment is perfectly designed to maximise space and therefore it's very comfortable to be in. Furthermore, there is inner-courtyard parking and two nice outside seating areas: one at the top of the stairs leading to the loft, with great views of the rolling hills and open-countryside, and the other in the inner courtyard, which is landscaped to perfection. Apart from the loft itself, the location was fantastic: we used it as a base for exploring that part of Wales, and there were so many wonderful things to do (of note, it's best to have a car, to be able to make the most of the area): forest walks, hill and mountain hikes for all levels, canoeing, castles and ruins to explore, quaint villages to visit, good shopping (in Cardiff and Newport), nice, scenic drives, lovely restaurants with great food. The Brecon Beacons and the area around it are an absolute gem worth discovering, and everything I just listed is anywhere between a 10-minute to a 50-minute drive from Ceri's house. All in all, we would definitely come back to stay here: Ceri is a consummate host, very welcoming, she was lovely to visit with and was extremely attentive, happy to help with any questions we had (she gave us several great suggestions in the area). Ceri's loft is a real find, and great value for money!!

  • Corner shop for little food bits and bobs about a 15 min walk away which also has a cash point inside. Beautiful views from the balcony area. Hayloft was warm and cosey.

    Claire2019-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely gorgeous place to stay, in such a peaceful location and not too far from the local corner shop, pub, chippy & Indian takeaway. Beautifully decorated and everything you could need was there.. boyfriend and I didn’t want to leave! Thank you for having us Ceri, excellent host and definitely recommend.

  • We had a wonderful time staying at Fred and Sian's place. Very welcoming hosts with a lovely home and family. We were very comfortable during our stay and had everything we needed plus more. The location was ideal for our short break in the area. A surprise standout experience was through AirBnB and was a Donkey Walk in the nearby countryside which is worth looking up during your stay. We would happily visit the area again and stay with Fred and Sian.

  • We had a great time at this lovely cosy cottage despite the wild and wet weather. Pippa was very helpful and lit the fire for our arrival. Pippa lives nearby and is easy to contact if you need anything but you have complete privacy as the cottage is situated by itself. The cottage is extremely comfortable and well equipped. The underfloor heating and the wood burner were greatly appreciated! The children loved the large selection of games, books and dvds which kept them entertained. The location is fantastic, true peace and quiet in beautiful countryside- just what we needed.

  • The cottage was beautiful. Amazing views from the balcony. It was a great romantic break for us. Our favourites were the fireplace in the living room and the huge windows in the conservatory (both in the day and night). Overall, we couldn't have asked for more in this stay.
